From Spot 2.0 to Spot 2.10: What's New?

Spot is a C ++ 17 library for LTL and $ω$-automata manipulation, with command-line utilities, and Python bindings. This paper summarizes its evolution over the past six years, since the release of Spot 2.0, which was the first version to support $ω$-automata with arbitrary acceptance conditions, and the last version presented at a conference. Since then, Spot has been extended with several features such as acceptance transformations, alternating automata, games, LTL synthesis, and more. We also shed some lights on the data-structure used to store automata.

Asymptotics of twisted Alexander polynomials and hyperbolic volume

For a hyperbolic knot and a natural number n, we consider the Alexander polynomial twisted by the n-th symmetric power of a lift of the holonomy. We establish the asymptotic behavior of these twisted Alexander polynomials evaluated at unit complex numbers, yielding the volume of the knot exterior. More generally, we prove the asymptotic behavior for cusped hyperbolic manifolds of finite volume. The proof relies on results of Müller, and Menal-Ferrer and the last author. Using the uniformity of the convergence, we also deduce a similar asymptotic result for the Mahler measures of those polynomials.

The L^2-Alexander torsion of 3-manifolds

We introduce $L^2$-Alexander torsions for 3-manifolds, which can be viewed as a generalization of the $L^2$-Alexander polynomial of Li--Zhang. We state the $L^2$-Alexander torsions for graph manifolds and we partially compute them for fibered manifolds. We furthermore show that given any irreducible 3-manifold there exists a coefficient system such that the corresponding $L^2$-torsion detects the Thurston norm.

Three flavors of twisted invariants of knots

The Alexander polynomial of a knot has been generalized in three different ways to give twisted invariants. The resulting invariants are usually referred to as twisted Alexander polynomials, higher-order Alexander polynomials and $L^2$-Alexander invariants of knots. We quickly recall the definitions and we summarize and compare some of their properties. We also report on work by the authors on $L^2$-Alexander torsions and we conclude the paper with several conjectures on $L^2$-Alexander torsions.

Twisted Alexander invariant and non-abelian Reidemeister torsion for hyperbolic three-dimensional manifolds with cusps

We study a computational method of the hyperbolic Reidemeister torsion (also called in the literature the non-abelian Reidemeister torsion) induced by J. Porti for complete hyperbolic three-dimensional manifolds with cusps. The derivative of the twisted Alexander invariant for a hyperbolic knot exterior gives the hyperbolic torsion. We prove such a derivative formula of the twisted Alexander invariant for hyperbolic link exteriors like the Whitehead link exterior. We provide the framework for the derivative formula to work, which consists of assumptions on the topology of the manifold and on the representations involved in the definition of the twisted Alexander invariant, and prove derivative formula in that context. We also explore the symmetry properties (with sign) of the twisted Alexander invariant and prove that it is in fact a polynomial invariant, like the usual Alexander polynomial.
