Anomalies in B mesons decays: A phenomenological approach

The experimental measurements on flavour physics, in tension with Standard Model predictions, exhibit large sources of Lepton Flavour Universality violation. We perform an analysis of the effects of the global fits on the Wilson coefficients assuming a model independent effective Hamiltonian approach, by including a set of different scenarios in which the New Physics contributions to the Wilson coefficients are present in one, two or three of the Wilson coefficients at a time. We compare the results of the global fit with respect to two cases: the Standard Model and the more general case in which New Physics modifies three independent Wilson coefficients. The last mentioned scenario is the favoured one for explaining the tension between Standard Model predictions and B-physics anomalies, but a specific more restricted scenario can provide similar goodness with a smaller set of free parameters. A discussion of the implications of our analysis in leptoquark models is included.

Using Machine Learning techniques in phenomenological studies in flavour physics

An updated analysis of New Physics violating Lepton Flavour Universality, by using the Standard Model Effective Field Lagrangian with semileptonic dimension six operators at $Λ= 1\,\mathrm{TeV}$ is presented. We perform a global fit, by discussing the relevance of the mixing in the first generation. We use for the first time in this context a Montecarlo analysis to extract the confidence intervals and correlations between observables. Our results show that machine learning, made jointly with the SHAP values, constitute a suitable strategy to use in this kind of analysis.

Effective squark/chargino/neutralino couplings: MadGraph implementation

We have included the effective description of squark interactions with charginos/neutralinos in the MadGraph MSSM model. This effective description includes the effective Yukawa couplings, and another logarithmic term which encodes the supersymmetry-breaking. We have performed an extensive test of our implementation analyzing the results of the partial decay widths of squarks into charginos and neutralinos obtained by using FeynArts/FormCalc programs and the new model file in MadGraph. We present results for the cross-section of top-squark production decaying into charginos and neutralinos.

Effective description of squark interactions

We propose an effective description of squark interactions with charginos/neutralinos. We recompute the strong corrections to squark partial decay widths, and compare the full one-loop computation with the effective description. The effective description includes the effective Yukawa couplings, and another logarithmic term which encodes the supersymmetry-breaking. The proposed effective couplings reproduce correctly the radiative-corrected partial decay widths of the squark decays into charginos and neutralinos in all relevant regions of the parameter space.

Higgs Boson Flavor-Changing Neutral Decays into Top Quark in a General Two-Higgs-Doublet Model

Higgs boson decays mediated by flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC) are very much suppressed in the Standard Model, at the level of 10^{-15} for Higgs boson masses of a few hundred GeV. Therefore, any experimental vestige of them would immediately call for new physics. In this paper we consider the FCNC decays of Higgs bosons into a top quark in a general two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM). The isolated top quark signature, unbalanced by any other heavy particle, should help to identify the potential FCNC events much more than any other final state. We compute the maximum branching ratios and the number of FCNC Higgs boson decay events at the LHC collider at CERN. The most favorable mode for production and subsequent FCNC decay is the lightest CP-even state in the Type II 2HDM, followed by the other CP-even state, if it is not very heavy, whereas the CP-odd mode can never be sufficiently enhanced. Our calculation shows that the branching ratios of the CP-even states may reach 10^{-5}, and that several hundred events could be collected in the highest luminosity runs of the LHC. We also point out some strategies to use these FCNC decays as a handle to discriminate between 2HDM and supersymmetric Higgs bosons.

Full electroweak one-loop radiative corrections to squark decays in the MSSM

We present results on the full one-loop electroweak radiative corrections to the squark decay partial widths into charginos and neutralinos. We show the renormalization framework, and present numerical results for the third squark family. The corrections can reach values of ~ 10%, which are comparable to the radiative corrections from the strong sector of the model. Therefore they should be taken into account for the precise extraction of the SUSY parameters at future colliders.

Loop Induced Flavor Changing Neutral Decays of the Top Quark in a General Two-Higgs-Doublet Model

Decays of the top quark induced by flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC) are known to be extremely rare events within the Standard Model. This is so not only for the decay modes into gauge bosons, but most notably in the case of the Higgs channels, e.g. t-> H_{SM}+c, with a branching fraction of 10^{-13} at most. Therefore, detection of FCNC top quark decays in a future high-energy, and high-luminosity, machine like the LHC or the LC would be an indisputable signal of new physics. In this paper we show that within the simplest extension of the SM, namely the general two-Higgs-doublet model, the FCNC top quark decays into Higgs bosons, t->(h^{0},H^{0},A^{0})+c, can be the most favored FCNC modes -- comparable or even more efficient than the gluon channel t-> g+c. In both cases the optimal results are obtained for Type II models. However, only the Higgs channels can have rates reaching the detectable level (10^{-5}), with a maximum of order 10^{-4} which is compatible with the charged Higgs bounds from radiative B-meson decays. We compare with the previous results obtained in the Higgs sector of the MSSM.

Top quark decay into charged Higgs boson in a general Two-Higgs-Doublet model: implications for the TEVATRON data

We analyze the unconventional top quark decay mode t -> H^+ b at the quantum level within the context of general Two-Higgs-Doublet models by including the full electroweak effects from the Yukawa couplings. The results are presented in the on-shell renormalization scheme with a physically well motivated definition of tan(beta). While the QCD corrections have been taken into account in the current experimental analyses of that decay, the electroweak effects have always been neglected. However, we find that they can be rather large and could dramatically alter the interpretation of the present data from the Tevatron collider. For instance, in large portions of the parameter space the electroweak effects prevent the Tevatron data from placing any bound at all to the charged Higgs mass for essentially any value of tan(beta).

Yukawa-coupling corrections to scalar quark decays

Heavy squark decays into top and charginos or neutralinos could be an unexpected source of top quarks at hadron colliders. A detailed treatment of these processes is necessary for a reliable calculation of both the top quark production cross-section and the standard top quark branching ratio in the MSSM. Along this line we compute the electroweak corrections to the sbottom decays sbottom_a --> chargino_i top within the Yukawa coupling approximation. The calculation of these higher order contributions requires renormalization of both the bottom squark mixing angle and of tan(beta). This type of corrections gives the leading order electroweak effects at low and high tan(beta).

Heavy charged Higgs boson decaying into top quark in the MSSM

Observing a heavy charged Higgs boson produced in the near future at the Tevatron or at the LHC would be instant evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model. Whether such a Higgs boson would be supersymmetric or not it could only be decided after accurate prediction of its properties. Here we compute the decay width of the dominant decay of such a boson, namely H^+ -> t \bar{b}, including the leading electroweak corrections originating from large Yukawa couplings within the MSSM. These electroweak effects turn out to be of comparable size to the O(alpha_s) QCD corrections in relevant portions of the MSSM parameter space. Our analysis incorporates the stringent low-energy constraints imposed by radiative B-meson decays.

Quantum effects on $t\to H^{+} b$ in the MSSM: a window to ``virtual'' supersymmetry?

We analyze the one-loop effects (strong and electroweak) on the unconventional top quark decay mode $t\rightarrow H^{+} b$ within the MSSM. The results are presented in the on-shell renormalization scheme with a physically well motivated definition of $\tanβ$. The study of this process at the quantum level is useful to unravel the potential supersymmetric nature of the charged Higgs emerging from that decay. As compared with the standard mode $t\rightarrow W^{+} b$, the corrections to $t\rightarrow H^{+} b$ are large, slowly decoupling and persist at a sizeable level even for all sparticle masses well above the LEP 200 discovery range. As a matter of fact, the potential size of the SUSY effects, which amount to corrections of several ten percent, could counterbalance the standard QCD corrections and even make them to appear with the ``wrong'' sign. Therefore, if the charged Higgs decay of the top quark is kinematically allowed -a possibility which is not excluded by the recent measurements of the branching ratio $BR(t\rightarrow W^{+} b)$ at the Tevatron - it could be an invaluable laboratory to search for ``virtual'' supersymmetry. While a first significant test of these effects could possibly be performed at the upgraded Tevatron, a more precise verification would most likely be carried out in future experiments at the LHC.
