$^7$H ground state as a $^3$H+4n resonance

We have investigated the possible existence of a $^7$H resonant state, considered as a five-body system consisting of a $^3$H core with four valence neutrons. To this aim, an effective n-$^3$H potential is constructed in order to reproduce the low energy elastic neutron scattering on $^3$H phase shifts and the $^5$H resonant ground state in terms of $^3$H-n-n system. The variational Gaussian Expansion Method is used to solve the 5-body Schrödinger equation, while the resonant state parameters were estimated by means of the stabilization method. We have not found any sign of a narrow low energy resonance in the vicinity of $^3$H+4n threshold. However, we have identified a very broad structure at $E_R\approx 9$ MeV above this threshold, which corresponds to the $^7$H J$^π$=1/2$^+$ ground state. In the vicinity of this state, we have also identified a broad structure corresponding to the ground state of $^6$H isotope with quantum numbers $J^π=2^-$.

Description of Four- and Five-Nucleon Systems by Solving Faddeev-Yakubovsky Equations in Configuration Space

The Faddeev Yakubovsky equations constitute a rigorous formulation of the quantum mechanical N body problem in the framework of non relativistic dynamics. They allow the exact solutions of the Schrodinger equation for bound and scattering states to be obtained. In this review, we will present the general formalism as well as the numerical tools we use to solve Faddeev Yakubovsky equations in configuration space. We will consider in detail the description of the four and five nucleon systems based on modern realistic nuclear Hamiltonians. Recent achievements in this domain will be summarized. Some of the still controversial issues related with the nuclear Hamiltonians as well as the numerical methods traditionally employed to solve few nucleon problems will be highlighted.

Improving proton-induced one-nucleon removal in intranuclear cascade

It is a well-established fact that intranuclear-cascade models generally fail to consistently reproduce the cross sections for one-proton and one-neutron removal from stable nuclei by a high-energy proton beam. We use simple shell-model calculations to investigate the reasons of this deficiency. We find that a refined description of the neutron skin and of the energy density in the nuclear surface is crucial for the aforementioned observables, and that neither ingredient is sufficient if taken separately. As a by-product, the predictions for removal of several nucleons are also improved by the refined treatment.

Shell structure and few-nucleon removal in intranuclear cascade

It is well known that intranuclear-cascade models generally overestimate the cross sections for one-proton removal from heavy, stable nuclei by a high-energy proton beam, but they yield reasonable predictions for one-neutron removal from the same nuclei and for one-nucleon removal from light targets. We use simple shell-model calculations to investigate the reasons of this deficiency. We find that a correct description of the neutron skin and of the energy density in the nuclear surface is crucial for the aforementioned observables. Neither ingredient is sufficient if taken separately.

Computing K and D meson masses with N_f = 2+1+1 twisted mass lattice QCD

We discuss the computation of the mass of the K and D mesons within the framework of N_f = 2+1+1 twisted mass lattice QCD from a technical point of view. These quantities are essential, already at the level of generating gauge configurations, being obvious candidates to tune the strange and charm quark masses to their physical values. In particular, we address the problems related to the twisted mass flavor and parity symmetry breaking, which arise when considering a non-degenerate (c,s) doublet. We propose and verify the consistency of three methods to extract the K and D meson masses in this framework.

Light hadrons from lattice QCD with light (u,d), strange and charm dynamical quarks

We present results of lattice QCD simulations with mass-degenerate up and down and mass-split strange and charm (N_f = 2+1+1) dynamical quarks using Wilson twisted mass fermions at maximal twist. The tuning of the strange and charm quark masses is performed at two values of the lattice spacing a~0.078 fm and a~0.086 fm with lattice sizes ranging from L~1.9 fm to L~2.8 fm. We measure with high statistical precision the light pseudoscalar mass m_PS and decay constant f_PS in a range 270 < m_PS < 510 MeV and determine the low energy parameters f_0, l_3 and l_4 of SU(2) chiral perturbation theory. We use the two values of the lattice spacing, several lattice sizes as well as different values of the light, strange and charm quark masses to explore the systematic effects. A first study of discretisation effects in light-quark observables and a comparison to N_f=2 results are performed.

Low lying baryon spectrum with $N_f = 2+1+1$ dynamical twisted quarks

We present first results on the octet and decuplet strange baryon spectrum with $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass quarks. We use an Osterwalder Seiler valence strange quark with a mass tuned to the kaon and compare the results with those obtained in the unitary setup. This comparison allows to perform a first study of the lattice artefacts introduced by the mixed action approach. We investigate the effect of the strange and charm quarks in the sea by using two lattice spacings and comparing with preceding $N_f = 2$ twisted mass fermion calculations.

Strange and charmed baryons using N_f=2 twisted mass QCD

We compute the mass spectrum for strange/charmed baryons in the partially quenched approach using N_f=2 twisted mass QCD configurations. We investigate two main issues: the size of lattice artefacts using three values of the lattice spacing (the smallest of which is approximately 0.05 fm) and the dependence of baryon masses on meson (or quark) masses. We thus perform a global fit in order to extrapolate simultaneously to the continuum limit and to the physical point. We estimate the masses of Omega_{sss}, Xi_{dss}, Lambda_{uds}, Omega_{ccc}, Xi_{dcc}, Lambda_{udc}.
