Lifting theorems for completely positive maps

We prove lifting theorems for completely positive maps going out of exact $C^\ast$-algebras, where we remain in control of which ideals are mapped into which. A consequence is, that if $\mathsf X$ is a second countable topological space, $\mathfrak A$ and $\mathfrak B$ are separable, nuclear $C^\ast$-algebras over $\mathsf X$, and the action of $\mathsf X$ on $\mathfrak A$ is continuous, then $E(\mathsf X; \mathfrak A, \mathfrak B) \cong KK(\mathsf X; \mathfrak A, \mathfrak B)$ naturally. As an application, we show that a separable, nuclear, strongly purely infinite $C^\ast$-algebra $\mathfrak A$ absorbs a strongly self-absorbing $C^\ast$-algebra $\mathscr D$ if and only if $\mathfrak I$ and $\mathfrak I\otimes \mathscr D$ are $KK$-equivalent for every two-sided, closed ideal $\mathfrak I$ in $\mathfrak A$. In particular, if $\mathfrak A$ is separable, nuclear, and strongly purely infinite, then $\mathfrak A \otimes \mathcal O_2 \cong \mathfrak A$ if and only if every two-sided, closed ideal in $\mathfrak A$ is $KK$-equivalent to zero.

The nuclear dimension of $\mathcal O_\infty$-stable $C^*$-algebras

We show that every nuclear $\mathcal O_\infty$-stable *-homomorphism with a separable exact domain has nuclear dimension at most 1. In particular separable, nuclear, $\mathcal O_\infty$-stable C*-algebras have nuclear dimension 1. We also characterise when $\mathcal O_\infty$-stable C*-algebras have finite decomposition rank in terms of quasidiagonality and primitive-ideal structure, and determine when full $\mathcal O_2$-stable *-homomorphisms have nuclear dimension 0.

A note on non-unital absorbing extensions

Elliott and Kucerovsky stated that a non-unital extension of separable $C^\ast$-algebras with a stable ideal, is nuclearly absorbing if and only if the extension is purely large. However, their proof was flawed. We give a counter example to their theorem as stated, but establish an equivalent formulation of nuclear absorption under a very mild additional assumption to being purely large. In particular, if the quotient algebra is non-unital, then we show that the original theorem applies. We also examine how this effects results in classification theory.

Absorbing representations with respect to closed operator convex cones

We initiate the study of absorbing representations of $C^\ast$-algebras with respect to closed operator convex cones. We completely determine when such absorbing representations exist, which leads to the question of characterising when a representation is absorbing, as in the classical Weyl-von Neumann type theorem of Voiculescu. In the classical case, this was proven by Elliott and Kucerovsky who proved that a representation is nuclearly absorbing if and only if it induces a purely large extension. By considering a related problem for extensions of $C^\ast$-algebras, which we call the purely large problem, we ask when a purely largeness condition similar to the one defined by Elliott and Kucerovsky, implies absorption with respect to some given closed operator convex cone. We solve this question for a special type of closed operator convex cone induced by actions of finite topological spaces on $C^\ast$-algebras. As an application of this result, we give $K$-theoretic classification for certain $C^\ast$-algebras containing a purely infinite, two-sided, closed ideal for which the quotient is an AF algebra. This generalises a similar result by the second author, S. Eilers and G. Restorff in which all extensions had to be full.

K-theory for Leavitt path algebras: computation and classification

We show that the long exact sequence for K-groups of Leavitt path algebras deduced by Ara, Brustenga, and Cortinas extends to Leavitt path algebras of countable graphs with infinite emitters in the obvious way. Using this long exact sequence, we compute explicit formulas for the higher algebraic K-groups of Leavitt path algebras over certain fields, including all finite fields and all algebraically closed fields. We also examine classification of Leavitt path algebras using K-theory. It is known that the K_0-group and K_1-group do not suffice to classify purely infinite simple unital Leavitt path algebras of infinite graphs up to Morita equivalence when the underlying field is the rational numbers. We prove for these Leavitt path algebras, if the underlying field is a number field (which includes the case when the field is the rational numbers), then the pair consisting of the K_0-group and the K_6-group does suffice to classify these Leavitt path algebras up to Morita equivalence.

Quasidiagonal traces on exact $C^\ast$-algebras

Recently, it was proved by Tikuisis, White and Winter that any faithful trace on a separable, nuclear $C^\ast$-algebras in the UCT class is quasidiagonal. Building on their work, we generalise the result, and show that any faithful, amenable trace on a separable, exact $C^\ast$-algebras in the UCT class is quasidiagonal. We also prove that any amenable trace on a separable, exact, quasidiagonal $C^\ast$-algebra in the UCT class is quasidiagonal.

Classification of tight $C^{*}$-algebras over the one-point compactification of $\mathbb{N}$

We prove a strong classification result for a certain class of $C^{*}$-algebras with primitive ideal space $\widetilde{\mathbb{N}}$, where $\widetilde{\mathbb{N}}$ is the one-point compactification of $\mathbb{N}$. This class contains the class of graph $C^{*}$-algebras with primitive ideal space $\widetilde{\mathbb{N}}$. Along the way, we prove a universal coefficient theorem with ideal-related $K$-theory for $C^{*}$-algebras over $\widetilde{\mathbb{N}}$ whose $\infty$ fiber has torsion-free $K$-theory.

Graph $C^\ast$-algebras with a $T_1$ primitive ideal space

We give necessary and sufficient conditions which a graph should satisfy in order for its associated $C^\ast$-algebra to have a $T_1$ primitive ideal space. We give a description of which one-point sets in such a primitive ideal space are open, and use this to prove that any purely infinite graph $C^\ast$-algebra with a $T_1$ (in particular Hausdorff) primitive ideal space, is a $c_0$-direct sum of Kirchberg algebras. Moreover, we show that graph $C^\ast$-algebras with a $T_1$ primitive ideal space canonically may be given the structure of a $C(\widetilde{\mathbb N})$-algebra, and that isomorphisms of their $\widetilde{\mathbb N}$-filtered $K$-theory (without coefficients) lift to $E(\widetilde{\mathbb N})$-equivalences, as defined by Dadarlat and Meyer.
