Aspects of $(d+D)$-dimensional Anisotropic Conformal Gravity

We discuss various aspects of anisotropic gravity in $(d+D)$-dimensional spacetime where $D$ dimensions are treated as extra dimensions. It is based on the foliation preserving diffeomorphism invariance and anisotropic conformal invariance. The anisotropy is embodied by introducing a factor $z$ which discriminates the scaling degree of the extra $D$ dimensions against the $d$-dimensional base spacetime and Weyl scalar field which mediates the anisotropic scaling symmetry. There is no intrinsic scale but a physical scale $M_*$ emerges as a consequence of spontaneous conformal symmetry breaking. Some vacuum solutions are obtained and we discuss an issue of `size separation' between the base spacetime and the extra dimensions. The size separation means large hierarchy between the scales appearing in the base spacetime and the extra dimensions respectively. We also discuss interesting theories obtained from our model. In the case of (4,1), we propose a resolution of hierarchy problem and discuss comparison with the results of the brane-world model. In a $(d,D)=(2,2)$ case, we suggest a UV-complete unitary quantum gravity which might become Einstein gravity in IR. In a certain (2,1) case, we obtain CGHS-model.

On holographic Wilsonian renormalization group of massive scalar theory with its self-interactions in AdS

Holographic model of massive scalar field with its self-interaction $λϕ^n$ in AdS space is able to give a logarithmic scale dependence to marginal multi trace deformation couplings on its dual conformal field theory, where $λ$ is the self-interaction coupling of the scalar field, $ϕ$ and $n$ is an integral number. In arXiv:1501.06664, the authors realize this feature by looking at bulk scalar solutions near AdS boundary imposing a specific boundary condition between the coefficients of non-normalizable and normalizable modes of the scalar field excitations. We study the same holographic model to see scale dependence of marginal deformations on the dual conformal field theory by employing completely different method: {\it holographic Wilsonian renormalization group}. We solve Hamilton-Jacobi equation derived from the holographic model of massive scalar with $λϕ^n$ interaction and obtain the solution of marginal multi trace deformations up to the leading order in $λ$. It turns out that the solution of marginal multi trace deformation also presents logarithmic behavior in energy scale near UV region.

Phase transition in anisotropic holographic superfluids with arbitrary $z$ and $α$

Einstein-dilaton-$U(2)$ gauge field theory is considered in a spacetime characterised by $α$ and $z$, which are the hyperscaling violation factor and the dynamical critical exponent respectively. We obtain the critical values of chemical potential $μ_c$ that is defined on its boundary dual fluid and derives phase transition from spatially isotropic to anisotropic phase for the various values of the $α$ and $z$. To do so, we first apply Sturm-Liouville theory and estimate the upper bounds of the critical values of the chemical potential. We also employ a numerical method in the ranges of $1 \leq z \leq 4$ and $0 \leq α\leq 4$ to check if the Sturm-Liouville method correctly estimates the critical values of the chemical po10 percent error ranges. Finally, we compute free energy density of the dual fluid by using its gravity dual and check if the system shows phase transition at the critical values of the chemical potential $μ_c$ for the given parameter region of $α$ and $z$. Interestingly, it is observed that the anisotropic phase is more favoured than the isotropic phase for small values of $z$ and $α$. However, for large values of $z$ and $α$, the anisotropic phase is not favoured.tential. It turns out that the two methods are agreed within

Boundary conditions for conformally coupled scalar in AdS$_4$

We consider conformally coupled scalar with $ϕ^4$ coupling in AdS$_4$ and study its various boundary conditions on AdS boundary. We have obtained perturbative solutions of equation of motion of the conformally coupled scalar with power expansion order by order in $ϕ^4$ coupling $λ$ up to $λ^2$ order. In its dual CFT, we get 2,4 and 6 point functions by using this solution with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions via AdS/CFT dictionary. We also consider marginal deformation on AdS boundary and get its on-shell and boundary effective actions.

Stochastic quantization and holographic Wilsonian renormalization group of scalar theories with arbitrary mass

We have studied a mathematical relationship between holographic Wilsonian renormalization group(HWRG) and stochastic quantization(SQ) of scalar field with arbitrary mass in AdS spacetime. In the stochastic theory, the field is described by an equation with a form of harmonic oscillator with time dependent frequency and its Euclidean action also shows explicit time dependent kernel in it. We have obtained the stochastic 2-point correlation function and demonstrate that it reproduces the radial evolution of the double trace operator correctly via the suggested relation given in arXiv:1209.2242. Moreover, we justify our stochastic procedure with time dependent kernel by showing that it can be mapped to a new stochastic frame with a standard kernel without time dependence. Finally, we consider more general boundary conditions for the stochastic field to reproduce the radial evolution of the holographic boundary effective action when alternative quantization is allowed. We extensively study the Neumann boundary condition case and confirm that even in this case, the relation between HWRG and SQ is precisely hold.

Electric-magnetic duality implies (global) conformal invariance

We have examined quantum theories of electric magnetic duality invariant vector fields enjoying classical conformal invariance in 4-dimensional flat spacetime. We extend Dirac's argument about "the conditions for a quantum field theory to be relativistic" to "those for a quantum theory to be conformal". We realize that electric magnetic duality invariant vector theories together with classical conformal invariance defined in 4-$d$ flat spacetime are still conformally invariant theories when they are quantized in a way that electric magnetic duality is manifest.

Stochastic quantization and holographic Wilsonian renormalization group of massless fermions in AdS

We have studied holographic Wilsonian renormalization group (HWRG) of free massless fermionic fields in AdS space and its stochastic quantization(SQ) by identifying the Euclidean action with its boundary on-shell action. The natural extension of the relation between stochastic 2-point correlation function and double trace coupling obtained from HWRG computation conjectured in arXiv:1209.2242 to fermionic fields is established. We have confirmed that the stochastic 2-point function precisely captures the radial flow of the double trace coupling via this relation.

Stochastic quantization of conformally coupled scalar in AdS

We explore the relation between stochastic quantization and holographic Wilsonian renormalization group flow further by studying conformally coupled scalar in $AdS_{d+1}$. We establish one to one mapping between the radial flow of its double trace deformation and stochastic 2-point correlation function. This map is shown to be identical, up to a suitable field re-definition of the bulk scalar, to the original proposal in arXiv:1209.2242.

Transport in non-conformal holographic fluids

We have considered non-conformal fluid dynamics whose gravity dual is a certain Einstein dilaton system with Liouville type dilaton potential, characterized by an intrinsic parameter $η$. We have discussed the Hawking-Page transition in this framework using hard-wall model and it turns out that the critical temperature of the Hawking-Page transition encapsulates a non-trivial dependence on $η$. We also obtained transport coefficients such as AC conductivity, shear viscosity and diffusion constant in the hydrodynamic limit, which show non-trivial $η$ dependent deviations from those in conformal fluids, although the ratio of the shear viscosity to entropy density is found to saturate the universal bound. Some of the retarded correlators are also computed in the high frequency limit for case study.

Analytic Approaches to anisotropic Holographic Superfluids

We construct an analytic solution of the Einstein-SU(2)-Yang-Mills system as the holographic dual of an anisotropic superfluid near its critical point, up to leading corrections in both the inverse Yang-Mills coupling and a symmetry breaking order parameter. We have also calculated the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density in this background, and shown that the universality of this ratio is lost in the broken symmetry direction. The ratio displays a scaling behavior near the critical point with critical exponent $β=1$, at the leading order in the double expansion.

Boundary conditions for SU(2) Yang-Mills on $AdS_4$

We consider SU(2) Yang-Mills theory on $AdS_4$ by imposing various boundary conditions, which correspond to non-trivial deformations of its boundary $CFT$. We obtain classical solutions of Yang-Mills fields up to the first subleading order correction by using small amplitude expansion of the gauge field without considering gravitational back reaction. We also consider SU(2) Yang-Mills instanton solution in $AdS_4$ bulk, and propose a boundary action. It turns out that the boundary theory is the Chern Simons theory with a non-local deformation which has the form similar to the Wilson line. In the limit of the deformation parameter $ρ\rightarrow \infty$, this non-local deformation is suppressed and the boundary theory becomes pure Chern Simons. For large but finite values of $ρ$, this non-local deformation can be treated perturbatively within the Chern-Simon theory.

Running Shear Viscosities in Anisotropic Holographic Superfluids

We have examined holographic renormalization group($RG$) flows of the shear viscosities in anisotropic holographic superfluids via their gravity duals, Einstein-SU(2) Yang-Mills system. In anisotropic phase, below the critical temperature $T_c$, the SO(3) isometry(spatial rotation) in the dual gravity system is broken down to the residual SO(2). The shear viscosities in the symmetry broken directions of the conformal fluids defined on $AdS$ boundary present non-universal values which depend on the chemical potential $μ$ and temperature $T$ of the system and also satisfy non-trivial holographic $RG$-flow equations. The shear viscosities flow down to the specific values in $IR$ region, in fact which are given by the ratios of the metric components in the symmetry unbroken direction to those in the broken directions, evaluated at the black brane horizon in the dual gravity system.

Stochastic quantization and holographic Wilsonian renormalization group

We study relation between stochastic quantization and holographic Wilsonian renormalization group flow. Considering stochastic quantization of the boundary on-shell actions with the Dirichlet boundary condition for certain $AdS$ bulk gravity theories, we find that the radial flows of double trace deformations in the boundary effective actions are completely captured by stochastic time evolution with identification of the $AdS$ radial coordinate `$r$' with the stochastic time '$t$' as $r=t$. More precisely, we investigate Langevin dynamics and find an exact relation between radial flow of the double trace couplings and 2-point correlation functions in stochastic quantization. We also show that the radial evolution of double trace deformations in the boundary effective action and the stochastic time evolution of the Fokker-Planck action are the same. We demonstrate this relation with a couple of examples: (minimally coupled)massless scalar fields in $AdS_2$ and U(1) vector fields in $AdS_4$.

Annulus amplitude of FZZT branes revisited

We revisit the annulus amplitude of FZZT branes with general matter sectors (r,s) using the recent development of matrix model and minimal Liouville gravity. Following the boundary description of the 1-matrix model and bulk resonance transformation between primary operators we find the consistency of the brane decomposition into (1,1)-branes. We also investigate the corresponding results obtained directly from the minimal Liouville gravity and demonstrate the perfect agreement with the matrix results.

On Dumb Holes and their Gravity Duals

Inhomogeneous fluid flows which become supersonic are known to produce acoustic analogs of ergoregions and horizons. This leads to Hawking-like radiation of phonons with a temperature essentially given by the gradient of the velocity at the horizon. We find such acoustic dumb holes in charged conformal fluids and use the fluid-gravity correspondence to construct dual gravity solutions. A class of quasinormal modes around these gravitational backgrounds perceive a horizon. Upon quantization, this implies a thermal spectrum for these modes.

Small Amplitude Forced Fluid Dynamics from Gravity at T = 0

The usual derivative expansion of gravity duals of charged fluid dynamics is known to break down in the zero temperature limit. In this case, the fluid-gravity duality is not understood precisely. We explore this problem for a zero temperature charged fluid driven by a low frequency, small amplitude and spatially homogeneous external force. In the gravity dual, this corresponds to time dependent boundary value of the dilaton. We calculate the bulk solution for the dilaton and the leading backreaction to the metric and the gauge fields using the modified low frequency expansion of [11]. The resulting solutions are regular everywhere, establishing fluid-gravity duality to this order.
