Neutral Meson Photoproduction in SUf(3)SU_f(3) χχPT

We present the results for the electric dipole amplitude for γN→π0NγN \to π^0 N at threshold at the O(p2)O(p^2) level in SUf_f(3) chiral perturbation theory. We find that the SUf_f(3) results differ only slightly from the SUf_f(2) results. At the O(p3)O(p^3) level one encounters new, unknown counterterms to fix which one is likely to need the threshold photoproduction data themselves, thus losing predictive power. We suggest, instead, that the {\it difference} between the proton and neutron π0π^0 photoproduction amplitudes may provide a test of the convergence properties of the χχPT in the present context. We urge that the neutron's electric dipole amplitude be measured.

Double Penguins and the Contribution of Vector Meson--like States to the Decays B→K∗γ, B→ργB \to K^* γ, \, B \to ργ

Using perturbative QCD, the contribution at the leading twist, leading αsα_s level, of charm and up quark loops to the decays B→K∗γB \rightarrow K^* γ and B→ργB \rightarrow ργ is presented. In the case of B→ργB \rightarrow ργ, the relative importance of these contributions depend upon the unknown CKM matrix elements VbuV_{bu} and VtdV_{td}. Assuming that the ratio r=VbcVcd∗/VbtVtd∗r = V_{bc}V^*_{cd}/V_{bt}V^*_{td} is bounded between −2.25≤r≤−.5-2.25 \le r \le -.5 as is suggested by the Particle Data Group, the error in extracting ∣Vtd/Vts∣ |V_{td}/V_{ts}| by these decays is estimated.

Model Independent Extraction of ∣Vbc∣|V_{\rm bc}| Without Heavy Quark Symmetry

A new method to extract ∣Vbc∣|V_{\rm bc}| is proposed based on a sum--rule for semileptonic decays of the BB meson. The method relies on much weaker assumptions than previous approaches which are based on heavy--quark symmetry. This sum--rule only relies on the assumption that the virtual cc‾c \overline{c} pair content of the BB meson can be neglected. The extraction of the CKM matrix element also requires that the sum--rule saturates in the kinematically accessible region.

Systematics of Exclusive B-decays

Systematic analysis of the high recoil decay channels of the B-meson, two body mesonic decay channels in particular. For decays involving D-mesons, all experimentally observed rates are in reasonable accord with our calculations. Noticeable corrections to heavy quark symmetry are found, appearing most prominently when comparing D and D* decay modes. Calculated branching ratios involving the CKM matrix element V_{ub} are all below experimental upper bounds, but not markedly so. Calculated decay rates into charmonium lie a bit on the low side. Where color-suppressed diagrams contribute, they are found to be also suppressed dynamically and explicit calculation shows that the color-suppressed diagrams are ignorable in B to D pi decays.
