Tomography-based observational measurements of the halo mass function via the submillimeter magnification bias

Aims. The main goal of this paper is to derive observational constraints on the halo mass fuction (HMF) by performing a tomographic analysis of the magnification bias signal on a sample of background submillimeter galaxies. The results can then be compared with those from a non-tomographic study. Methods. We measure the cross-correlation function between a sample of foreground GAMA galaxies with spectroscopic redshifts in the range $0.1 < z < 0.8$ (and divided up into four bins) and a sample of background submillimeter galaxies from H-ATLAS with photometric redshifts in the range $1.2 < z < 4.0$. We model the weak lensing signal within the halo model formalism and carry out a Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm to obtain the posterior distribution of all HMF parameters, which we assume to follow the Sheth and Tormen (ST) three-parameter and two-parameter fits. Results. While the observational constraints on the HMF from the non-tomographic analysis are not stringent, there is a remarkable improvement in terms of uncertainty reduction when tomography is adopted. Moreover, with respect to the traditional ST triple of values from numerical simulations, the results from the three-parameter fit predict a higher number density of halos at masses below $10^{12}M_{\odot}/h$ at 95% credibility. The two-parameter fit yields even more restricting results, with a larger number density of halos below $10^{13}M_{\odot}/h$ and a lower one above $10^{14}M_{\odot}/h$, this time at more than 3$σ$ credibility. Our results are therefore in disagreement with the standard N-body values for the ST fit at 2$σ$ and 3$σ$, respectively.

Galaxy cluster mass density profile derived using the submillimetre galaxies magnification bias

In this work we want to study the average mass density profile of tens to hundreds of clusters of galaxies acting as lenses that produce a magnification bias on the SMGs, and to estimate their associated masses and concentrations for different richness ranges. The background sample is composed of SMGs observed by Herschel with 1.2<z<4.0 (mean redshift at ~2.3) while the foreground sample is made up of galaxy clusters extracted from the SDSS III with photometric redshifts of 0.05< z< 0.8 (mean redshift at ~0.38). Measurements are obtained by stacking the SMG--cluster pairs to estimate the cross-correlation function using the Davis-Peebles estimator. This methodology allows us to derive the mass density profile for a wide range of angular scales, ~2-250 arcsec or ~10-1300 kpc for z=0.38, with a high radial resolution. We find that It is impossible to fit the data with a single mass density profile at all scales. As for the outer part, the estimated average masses increase from $M_{200c}=5.8$ to $51.5\times 10^{13} M_\odot$ and the concentration parameter from C=0.74 to 1.74. In the small-scale regions, the obtained average masses fluctuate around $M_{200c}=3-4 \times 10^{13}M_\odot$ with average C~4. The total average masses are in perfect agreement with the M-R relationship estimated from the cluster catalogue. While the estimated average C values of the central galactic halos are in agreement with traditional M-C relationships, we find low concentrations for the outer part. Moreover, C decrease for lower R values, probably indicating that the group of galaxies cannot be considered to be relaxed systems. Finally, we notice a systematic lack of signal at the transition between the dominance of the cluster halo and the central galactic halo (~100 kpc). This feature is also present in previous studies using different catalogues and/or methodologies, but is never discussed.

Multi-frequency point source detection with fully convolutional networks: Performance in realistic microwave sky simulations

Point Source (PS) detection is an important issue for future Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) experiments since they are one of the main contaminants to the recovery of CMB signal at small scales. Improving its multifrequency detection would allow to take into account valuable information otherwise neglected when extracting PS using a channel-by-channel approach. We develop a method based on Neural Networks (NNs) to detect PS in multifrequency realistic simulations and compare its performance against one of the most popular methods, the matrix filters. The frequencies used are 143, 217 and 353 GHz and we impose a Galactic cut of 30 degrees. We produce simulations by adding contaminating signals to the PS maps as the CMB, the Cosmic Infrared Background, the Galactic thermal emission, the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect and the instrumental noise. These simulations are used to train two NNs called Flat and Spectral MultiPoSeIDoN. The first one considers PS with a flat spectrum and the second one is more realistic because it takes into account the spectral behavior of the PS. Using a detection limit of 60 mJy, Flat MultiPoSeIDoN reachs the 90% of completeness level at 58 mJy and at 79, 71 and 60 for the spectral case at 143, 217 and 353 GHz respectively, while the matrix filters reach it at 84, 79 and 123 mJy. Using safer 4σ detection limit does not help to improve these results. In all cases, MultiPoSeIDoN obtain a much lower number of spurious sources than the filter. The NNs recover the flux density of the detections with a relative error of 10% above 100 mJy, while the filter above 150 mJy. Based on the results, NNs are the perfect candidates to substitute filters to detect multifrequency PS in future CMB experiments. Moreover, we have shown that a multifrequency approach can detect sources with higher accuracy than single-frequency approaches also based on NNs.

Universal $α$-central extensions of hom-Leibniz $n$-algebras

We construct homology with trivial coefficients of Hom-Leibniz $n$-algebras. We introduce and characterize universal ($α$)-central extensions of Hom-Leibniz $n$-algebras. In particular, we show their interplay with the zeroth and first homology with trivial coefficients. When $n=2$ we recover the corresponding results on universal central extensions of Hom-Leibniz algebras. The notion of non-abelian tensor product of Hom-Leibniz $n$-algebras is introduced and we establish its relationship with the universal central extensions. We develop a generalization of the concept and properties of unicentral Leibniz algebras to the setting of Hom-Leibniz $n$-algebras.

On Lie-central extensions of Leibniz algebras

Basing ourselves on the categorical notions of central extensions and commutators in the framework of semi-abelian categories relative to a Birkhoff subcategory, we study central extensions of Leibniz algebras with respect to the Birkhoff subcategory of Lie algebras, called Lie-central extensions. We obtain a six-term exact homology sequence associated to a Lie-central extension. This sequence, together with the relative commutators, allows us to characterize several classes of Lie-central extensions, such as Lie-trivial, Lie-stem and Lie-stem cover, to introduce and characterize Lie-unicentral, Lie-capable, Lie-solvable and Lie-nilpotent Leibniz algebras.

On nilpotent index and dibaricity of evolution algebras

An evolution algebra corresponds to a quadratic matrix $A$ of structural constants. It is known the equivalence between nil, right nilpotent evolution algebras and evolution algebras which are defined by upper triangular matrices $A$. We establish a criterion for an $n$-dimensional nilpotent evolution algebra to be with maximal nilpotent index $2^{n-1}+1$. We give the classification of finite-dimensional complex evolution algebras with maximal nilpotent index. Moreover, for any $s=1,...,n-1$ we construct a wide class of $n$-dimensional evolution algebras with nilpotent index $2^{n-s}+1$. We show that nilpotent evolution algebras are not dibaric and establish a criterion for two-dimensional real evolution algebras to be dibaric.

On the univeral α-central extensions of the semi-direct product of Hom-Leibniz algebras

We introduce Hom-actions, semi-direct product and establish the equivalence between split extensions and the semi-direct product extension of Hom-Leibniz algebras. We analyze the functorial properties of the universal (α)-central extensions of (α)-perfect Hom-Leibniz algebras. We establish under what conditions an automorphism or a derivation can be lifted in an α-cover and we analyze the universal α-central extension of the semi-direct product of two α-perfect Hom-Leibniz algebras.

Classification of solvable Leibniz algebras with naturally graded filiform nilradical

In this paper we show that the method for describing solvable Lie algebras with given nilradical by means of non-nilpotent outer derivations of the nilradical is also applicable to the case of Leibniz algebras. Using this method we extend the classification of solvable Lie algebras with naturally graded filiform Lie algebra to the case of Leibniz algebras. Namely, the classification of solvable Leibniz algebras whose nilradical is a naturally graded filiform Leibniz algebra is obtained.

Classification of solvable Leibniz algebras with null-filiform nilradical

In this paper we classify solvable Leibniz algebras whose nilradical is a null-filiform algebra. We extend the obtained classification to the case when the solvable Leibniz algebra is decomposed as a direct sum of its nilradical, which is a direct sum of null-filiform ideals, and a one-dimensional complementary subspace. Moreover, in this case we establish that these ideals are ideals of the algebra, as well.

On the degenerations of solvable Leibniz algebras

The present paper is devoted to the description of rigid solvable Leibniz algebras. In particular, we prove that solvable Leibniz algebras under some conditions on the nilradical are rigid and we describe four-dimensional solvable Leibniz algebras with three-dimensional rigid nilradical. We show that the Grunewald-O'Halloran's conjecture "any $n$-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra is a degeneration of some algebra of the same dimension" holds for Lie algebras of dimensions less than six and for Leibniz algebras of dimensions less than four. The algebra of level one, which is omitted in the 1991 Gorbatsevich's paper, is indicated.

On universal central extensions of Hom_Leibniz algebras

In the category of Hom-Leibniz algebras we introduce the notion of representation as adequate coefficients to construct the chain complex to compute the Leibniz homology of Hom-Leibniz algebras. We study universal central extensions of Hom-Leibinz algebras and generalize some classical results, nevertheless it is necessary to introduce new notions of $α$-central extension, universal $α$-central extension and $α$-perfect Hom-Leibniz algebra. We prove that an $α$-perfect Hom-Lie algebra admits a universal $α$-central extension in the categories of Hom-Lie and Hom-Leibniz algebras and we obtain the relationships between both. In case $α= Id$ we recover the corresponding results on universal central extensions of Leibniz algebras.

preprint2012arXiv

On universal central extensions of Hom-Lie algebras

We develop a theory of universal central extensions of Hom-Lie algebras. Classical results of universal central extensions of Lie algebras cannot be completely extended to Hom-Lie algebras setting, because of the composition of two central extensions is not central. This fact leads to introduce the notion of universal $α$-central extension. Classical results as the existence of a universal central extension of a perfect Hom-Lie algebra remains true, but others as the central extensions of the middle term of a universal central extension is split only holds for $α$-central extensions. A homological characterization of universal ($α$)-central extensions is given.

A chain of evolution algebras

We introduce a notion of chain of evolution algebras. The sequence of matrices of the structural constants for this chain of evolution algebras satisfies an analogue of Chapman-Kolmogorov equation. We give several examples (time homogenous, time non-homogenous, periodic, etc.) of such chains. For a periodic chain of evolution algebras we construct a continuum set of non-isomorphic evolution algebras and show that the corresponding discrete time chain of evolution algebras is dense in the set. We obtain a criteria for an evolution algebra to be baric and give a concept of a property transition. For several chains of evolution algebras we describe the behavior of the baric property depending on the time. For a chain of evolution algebras given by the matrix of a two-state evolution we define a baric property controller function and under some conditions on this controller we prove that the chain is not baric almost surely (with respect to Lebesgue measure). We also construct examples of the almost surely baric chains of evolution algebras. We show that there are chains of evolution algebras such that if it has a unique (resp. infinitely many) absolute nilpotent element at a fixed time, then it has unique (resp. infinitely many) absolute nilpotent element any time; also there are chains of evolution algebras which have not such property. For an example of two dimensional chain of evolution algebras we give the full set of idempotent elements and show that for some values of parameters the number of idempotent elements does not depend on time, but for other values of parameters there is a critical time $t_{c}$ such that the chain has only two idempotent elements if time $t\geq t_{\rm c}$ and it has four idempotent elements if time $t< t_{\rm c}$

Solvability criteria for the equation $x^q=a$ in the field of $p$-adic numbers

We establish the solvability criteria for the equation $x^q=a$ in the field of $p$-adic numbers, for any $q$ in two cases: (i) $q$ is not divisible by $p$; (ii) $q=p$. Using these criteria we show that any $p$-adic number can be represented in finitely many different forms and we describe the algorithms to obtain the corresponding representations. Moreover it is showed that solvability problem of $x^q=a$ for any $q$ can be reduced to the cases (i) and (ii).

On evolution algebras

The structural constants of an evolution algebra is given by a quadratic matrix $A$. In this work we establish equivalence between nil, right nilpotent evolution algebras and evolution algebras, which are defined by upper triangular matrix $A$. The classification of 2-dimensional complex evolution algebras is obtained. For an evolution algebra with a special form of the matrix $A$ we describe all its isomorphisms and their compositions. We construct an algorithm running under Mathematica which decides if two finite dimensional evolution algebras are isomorphic.
