Study of the lowest tensor and scalar resonances in the $τ\to πππν_τ$ decay

In this note we present a new parametrization of the hadronic current for the decay $τ\to πππν_τ$ derived from the chiral lagrangian with explicit inclusion of resonances. We have included both scalar, vector and axial-vector resonances. For the first time, the lowest tensor resonance ($f_2(1270)$) is included as well. Both single and double-resonance contributions to the hadronic form factors are taken into account. To satisfy the correct high energy behaviour of the hadronic form factors, constraints on numerical values of the vertex constants are obtained.

Composite resonances and their impact on the EW chiral Lagrangian

In this talk we study the low-energy effective couplings generated by strongly-coupled electroweak models that contain heavy composite resonances. Invariance under $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$ is a key ingredient in the construction of the resonance action. For simplicity, in these proceedings we focus our attention on the impact of a heavy colourless vector V, which transforms as a triplet under the custodial group. More precisely, we study the couplings that are relevant for the vector form-factors of the L+R current into two electroweak Goldstones and into two Standard Model fermions, which contribute to the oblique parameters S and T and the anomalous $Z\to f\bar{f}$ couplings, respectively. Our predictions are compatible with bounds from direct and indirect searches for Mv > 1.5 TeV. Finally, although we consider an antisymmetric tensor formalism to describe the vector resonance, we derive the equivalent action in the Proca four-vector representation and show that the predictions for low-energy couplings and form-factors are identical, as expected.

Electroweak chiral Lagrangian with a light Higgs

In this talk we discuss the structure of electroweak low-energy effective theories where the Higgs is non-linearly realized, typically in scenarios where the Higgs is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson of some beyond Standard Model symmetry. The organization of the perturbative counting and the relevance of the various next-to-leading order contributions is studied. We discuss some new results on the structure of the one-loop ultraviolet divergences and the contribution from tree-level heavy resonance exchanges to the low-energy effective theory, which are applied to a couple of explicit examples in order to show how, in the non-linear effective theory -the electroweak chiral Lagrangian with a light Higgs (ECLh)-, one-loop corrections can be as important as the contribution from higher dimension operators.

Assessing the accuracy of the Brodsky-Lepage prediction

We show that a consistent set of short-distance conditions on the odd-intrinsic parity resonance chiral Lagrangian couplings can be derived in the large-$N_C$ limit and the single resonance approximation. These constraints are satisfied both by the VVP Green function and all its associated form-factors. Moreover, they are in agreement with earlier results found in the normal parity sector, which further supports the overall consistency of the approach. Here we take a new perspective and examine the consequences of these high-energy relations on the precise coefficient of the $1/Q^2$-term of meson form-factors, which rules their asymptotic behavior. In particular, we show that the coefficient derived using our consistent set of short-distance constraints is in remarkable accordance with the Brodsky-Lepage prediction, being alternative results for these coefficients disfavored.

Electroweak chiral Lagrangian with a light Higgs and $γγ\to Z_L Z_L, W_L^+ W_L^-$ scattering at one loop

In these proceedings we provide a brief summary of the findings of a previous article where we have studied the photon-photon scattering into longitudinal weak bosons within the context of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian with a light Higgs, a low-energy effective field theory including a Higgs-like scalar singlet and where the electroweak would-be Goldstone bosons are non-linearly realized. We consider the relevant Lagrangian up to next-to-leading order in the chiral counting, which is explained in some detail here. We find that these amplitudes are ultraviolet finite and the relevant combinations of next-to-leading parameters ($c_γ$ and $a_1-a_2+a_3$) do not get renormalized. We propose the joined analysis of $γγ$-scattering and other photon related observables ($Γ(h\toγγ)$, $S$--parameter and the $γ^*\to W^+_LW^-_L$ and $γ^*\to hγ$ electromagnetic form-factors) in order to separate and determine each chiral parameter. Moreover, the correlations between observables provided by the NLO computations would lead to more stringent bounds on the new physics that is parametrized by means of this effective Lagrangian. We also show an explicit computation of the $γγ$--scattering up to next-to-leading order in the $SO(5)/SO(4)$ minimally composite Higgs model.

Electroweak Chiral Lagrangians and $γγ\to Z_L Z_L,\, W_L^+ W_L^-$ at One Loop

In these proceedings we discuss our recent work on $γγ\to W^+_L W^-_L$ and $γγ\to Z_L Z_L$ within the framework of Electroweak Chiral Lagrangians with a light Higgs. These observables are good candidates to provide indications of physics beyond the Standard Model and can complement other analyses and global fits. Making use of the equivalence theorem, we have performed the computation up to the next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion, i.e., including one-loop corrections and the full set of possible counterterms allowed at that order in the low-energy effective field theory. The one-loop amplitudes turn out to have a extremely simple structure and they are ultraviolet finite. Thus, the relevant combinations of higher order chiral couplings $c_γ^r$ and $(a_1^r-a_2^r+a_3^r)$ do not run. We also identify an additional set of observables that depend on these same parameters, which can be use to complement the $γγ$ analysis through a global fit.

Electroweak chiral Lagrangians and the Higgs properties at the one-loop level

In these proceedings we explore the use of (non-linear) electroweak chiral Lagrangians for the description of possible beyond the Standard Model strong dynamics in the electroweak sector. Experimentally one observes an approximate electroweak symmetry breaking pattern $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R/SU(2)_{L+R}$. Quantum Chromodynamics shows a similar chiral structure and, in spite of the differences (in the electroweak theory $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y$ is gauged), it has served for years as a guide for this type of studies. Examples of one-loop computations in the low-energy effective theory and the theory including the first vector and axial-vector resonances are provided, yielding, respectively, predictions for $γγ\to Z_LZ_L,W^+_LW^-_L$ and the oblique parameters $S$ and $T$.

Padé Approximants and Resonance Poles

Based on the mathematically well defined Padé Theory, a theoretically safe new procedure for the extraction of the pole mass and width of a resonance is proposed. In particular, thanks to the Montessus de Ballore theorem we are able to unfold the Second Riemann Sheet of an amplitude to search for the position of the resonant pole in the complex plane. The method is systematic and provides a model-independent treatment of the prediction and the corresponding errors of the approximation.

Anomalous $AV^*V$ vertex function in the soft-wall holographic model of QCD

We consider the vertex function of two vector and one axial-vector currents using the soft-wall holographic model of QCD with the Chern-Simons term. Two structure functions $w_L$ and $w_T$ describe such a vertex in the special case in which one of the two vector currents corresponds to an on-shell soft photon. We briefly review the QCD results for these functions, obtained from triangular loop diagrams with quarks having mass $m_q=0$ or $m_q \neq 0$, we compute $w_L$ and $w_T$ in the soft-wall model and compare the outcome to the QCD findings. We also calculate and discuss the two-point $Π_{VV}-Π_{AA}$ correlation function, together with a few low-energy constants, which turn out to be close to the QCD results.

Anomalous AV*V Green's function in soft-wall AdS/QCD

In this talk we study the Green's function of two vector and one axial-vector currents within the soft-wall anti-de-Sitter (AdS) model of Qunatum Chromodynamics (QCD), with a quadratic dilaton and chiral symmetry broken through a field X which gains a vacuum expectation value. We compare our predictions at high energies with the Operator Product Expansion both in the massless quark limit and for mq different from 0. The soft-wall model yields a zero magnetic susceptibility chi=0 and some problems are found in the case with mq different from 0. We also discuss the relation proposed by Son and Yamamoto between the AV*V and VV-AA correlators, which is not obeyed at high energies in soft wall AdS/QCD.

Holography, chiral Lagrangian and form factor relations

We derive all the O(p^6) Chiral Perturbation Theory low-energy constants from a class of gravity dual models of QCD described by the Yang-Mills and Chern-Simons Lagrangian terms, with the chiral symmetry broken through boundary conditions in the infrared. All the constants of the odd intrinsic parity sector are universally determined by those at O(p^4) in the even sector, together with an extra resonance term. A few relations for the even sector couplings are also extracted. Our estimates reasonably agree with the few available O(p^6) determinations from alternative phenomenological analyses. Some of the relations between low-energy constants are the manifestation, at large distances, of universal relations that we find between form factors in the even and odd sectors, e.g., between the gamma*->pi pi and pi->gamma gamma* matrix elements.

Relations between anomalous and even-parity sectors in AdS/QCD

We derive the O(p6) Chiral Perturbation Theory Lagrangian in the massless quark limit for a class of gravity dual models of Quantum Chromodynamics with the chiral symmetry broken through boundary conditions. The odd O(p6) couplings are related to the O(p4) low-energy constants (LEC's) in the even-parity sector. Some combinations of even O(p6) couplings are found to be universal and independent of the peculiarities of the model. These relations turn out to be the manifestation at low energies of a broader relation between anomalous and even-parity amplitudes.

Pade Theory and Phenomenology of Resonance Poles

The use of Pade approximants for the description of QCD matrix elements is discussed in this talk. We will see how they prove to be an extremely useful tool, specially in the case of resonant amplitudes. It will allow the inclusion of high-energy Euclidian data to improve the determination of low-energy properties, such as the quadratic vector radius. This does not mean that the rational approximations can be arbitrarily employed for the extraction of any desired hadronic parameter. A discussion about the validity, limitations and possible issues of the Pade analysis is carried on along the paper. Finally, based on the de Montessus de Ballore's theorem, a theoretically safe new procedure for the extraction of the pole mass and width of resonances is proposed here and illustrated with the example of the rho(770).

Relevance of final state interactions in eta'->eta pi pi decays

A study of the eta'->eta pi pi Dalitz plot distribution is presented in this talk. The size of the branching ratio is properly understood within U(3) Chiral Perturbation Theory and Resonance Chiral Theory, in the framework of the 1/Nc expansion. Nonetheless, unitarity effects of pion loops must be incorporated in order to achieve an appropriate description of the Dalitz slope parameters. After taking the final state interactions into account, our predictions become now in agreement with the available experimental measurements, although some clear differences show up with respect to previous theoretical estimates.

High energy constraints in the octet SS-PP correlator and resonance saturation at NLO in 1/Nc

We study the octet SS-PP correlator within resonance chiral theory up to the one-loop level, i.e., up to next-to-leading order in the 1/Nc expansion. We will require that our correlator follows the power behaviour prescribed by the operator product expansion at high euclidian momentum. Nevertheless, we will not make use of short-distance constraints from other observables. Likewise, the high-energy behaviour will be demanded for the whole correlator, not for individual absorptive channels. The amplitude is progressively improved by considering more and more complicated operators in the hadronic lagrangian. Matching the resonance chiral theory result with chiral perturbation theory at low energies produces the estimates L_8(mu)^{SU(3)} = (1.0+-0.4)10^-3 and C_{38}(mu)^{SU(3)} = (8+-5) 10^-6 for mu=770 MeV. The effect of alternative renormalization schemes is also discussed in the article.

Renormalization group equations in resonance chiral theory

The use of the equations of motion and meson field redefinitions allows the development of a simplified resonance chiral theory lagrangian: terms including resonance fields and a large number of derivatives can be reduced into corresponding O(p2) resonance operators, containing the lowest possible number of derivatives. This is shown by means of the explicit computation of the pion vector form-factor up to next-to-leading order in 1/Nc. The study of the renormalization group equations for the corresponding couplings demonstrates the existence of an infrared fixed point in the resonance theory. The possibility of developing a perturbative 1/Nc expansion in the slow running region around the fixed point is shown here.

Renormalization group equations in resonance chiral theory: the pi pi vector form-factor

The use of the equations of motion and meson field redefinitions allows the simplification of the subleading operators required in the one-loop resonance chiral theory calculation of the pi pi vector form-factor. The study of the renormalization group equations of the relevant parameters shows the existence of an infrared fixed point for all the couplings. It is important to remark that this result does not rely on the high-energy form-factor constraints, which are often considered in other works. The possibility of developing a perturbative 1/Nc expansion in the slow running region around the fixed point is shown here.

Weinberg sum rules at NLO in 1/Nc

We study the relevance of different renormalization schemes in Resonance Chiral Theory. The SS-PP correlator is explicitly computed at the one-loop level. Demanding the operator product expansion behaviour at short distances produces a new set of constraints, as some logarithmic terms are absent at high energies. Likewise, the loops induce subleading corrections in 1/Nc to the leading-order constraints, the Weinberg sum rules. We find that the short-distance conditions from a minimally subtracted scheme generate large uncertainties which, alternatively, can be largely simplified in other schemes.

Towards a determination of the chiral couplings at NLO in 1/N(C): L_8(mu) and C_38(mu)

We present a dispersive method which allows to investigate the low-energy couplings of chiral perturbation theory at the next-to-leading order (NLO) in the 1/N(C) expansion, keeping full control of their renormalization scale dependence. Using the resonance chiral theory Lagrangian, we perform a NLO calculation of the scalar and pseudoscalar two-point functions, within the single-resonance approximation. Imposing the correct QCD short-distance constraints, one determines their difference Pi(t)=Pi_S(t)-Pi_P(t) in terms of the pion decay constant and resonance masses. Its low momentum expansion fixes then the low-energy chiral couplings L_8 and C_38. At mu_0=0.77 GeV, we obtain L_8(mu_0)^{SU(3)} = (0.6+-0.4)10^{-3} and C_{38}(mu_0)^{SU(3)}=(2+-6)10^{-6}.
