Electrically charged supermassive twin stars

By assuming that ultra dense hybrid neutron stars are endowed with a distribution of electric charge, we study the corresponding twin star solutions and their properties resulting from a sharp first order transition from confined hadronic to a deconfined quark phase. Two distinct quark matter equations of state with increasing stiffness are considered and the values for the maximum gravitational masses of the hadronic and hybrid twin configurations are obtained for different values of the total electric charge. Interestingly, our calculations indicate that sharp transitions make charged twin hybrid stars more massive than their neutral counterparts, and that the {$\SI{2}{M_{\odot}}$ constraint from PSR J0740+6620} is surpassed for standard values of electric charge and can be considered stable only satisfying $\partial M/\partial ε_0 > 0$. In particular, our charged stellar models reach masses even higher than the unknown compact object measured in the GW190814 event.

A weak Local Linearization scheme for stochastic differential equations with multiplicative noise

In this paper, a weak Local Linearization scheme for Stochastic Differential Equations (SDEs) with multiplicative noise is introduced. First, for a time discretization, the solution of the SDE is locally approximated by the solution of the piecewise linear SDE that results from the Local Linearization strategy. The weak numerical scheme is then defined as a sequence of random vectors whose first moments coincide with those of the piecewise linear SDE on the time discretization. The rate of convergence is derived and numerical simulations are presented for illustrating the performance of the scheme.

Multiple shooting-Local Linearization method for the identification of dynamical systems

The combination of the multiple shooting strategy with the generalized Gauss-Newton algorithm turns out in a recognized method for estimating parameters in ordinary differential equations (ODEs) from noisy discrete observations. A key issue for an efficient implementation of this method is the accurate integration of the ODE and the evaluation of the derivatives involved in the optimization algorithm. In this paper, we study the feasibility of the Local Linearization (LL) approach for the simultaneous numerical integration of the ODE and the evaluation of such derivatives. This integration approach results in a stable method for the accurate approximation of the derivatives with no more computational cost than the that involved in the integration of the ODE. The numerical simulations show that the proposed Multiple Shooting-Local Linearization method recovers the true parameters value under different scenarios of noisy data.

Approximate continuous-discrete filters for the estimation of diffusion processes from partial and noisy observations

In this paper, an alternative approximation to the innovation method is introduced for the parameter estimation of diffusion processes from partial and noisy observations. This is based on a convergent approximation to the first two conditional moments of the innovation process through approximate continuous-discrete filters of minimum variance. It is shown that, for finite samples, the resulting approximate estimators converge to the exact one when the error of the approximate filters decreases. For an increasing number of observations, the estimators are asymptotically normal distributed and their bias decreases when the above mentioned error does it. A simulation study is provided to illustrate the performance of the new estimators. The results show that, with respect to the conventional approximate estimators, the new ones significantly enhance the parameter estimation of the test equations. The proposed estimators are intended for the recurrent practical situation where a nonlinear stochastic system should be identified from a reduced number of partial and noisy observations distant in time.

Approximate discrete-time schemes for the estimation of diffusion processes from complete observations

In this paper, a modification of the conventional approximations to the quasi-maximum likelihood method is introduced for the parameter estimation of diffusion processes from discrete observations. This is based on a convergent approximation to the first two conditional moments of the diffusion process through discrete-time schemes. It is shown that, for finite samples, the resulting approximate estimators converge to the quasi-maximum likelihood one when the error between the discrete-time approximation and the diffusion process decreases. For an increasing number of observations, the approximate estimators are asymptotically normal distributed and their bias decreases when the mentioned error does it. A simulation study is provided to illustrate the performance of the new estimators. The results show that, with respect to the conventional approximate estimators, the new ones significantly enhance the parameter estimation of the test equations. The proposed estimators are intended for the recurrent practical situation where a nonlinear stochastic system should be identified from a reduced number of complete observations distant in time.

Convergence rate of weak Local Linearization schemes for stochastic differential equations with additive noise

There exists a diversity of weak Local Linearization (LL) schemes for the integration of stochastic differential equations with additive noise, which differ with respect to the algorithm that is employed in the numerical implementation of the weak Local Linear discretizations. On the contrary to the Local Linear discretization, the rate of convergence of the LL schemes has not been considered up to now. In this work, a general theorem about this issue is derived and further is applied to a number of specific schemes. As application, the convergence rate of weak LL schemes for equations with jumps is also presented.

Local Linearization-Runge Kutta Methods: a class of A-stable explicit integrators for dynamical systems

A new approach for the construction of high order A-stable explicit integrators for ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is theoretically studied. Basically, the integrators are obtained by splitting, at each time step, the solution of the original equation in two parts: the solution of a linear ordinary differential equation plus the solution of an auxiliary ODE. The first one is solved by a Local Linearization scheme in such a way that A-stability is ensured, while the second one can be approximated by any extant scheme, preferably a high order explicit Runge-Kutta scheme. Results on the convergence and dynamical properties of this new class of schemes are given, as well as some hints for their efficient numerical implementation. An specific scheme of this new class is derived in detail, and its performance is compared with some Matlab codes in the integration of a variety of ODEs representing different types of dynamics.
