Nonlocal potentials and complex angular momentum theory

The purpose of this paper is to establish meromorphy properties of the partial scattering amplitude T(lambda,k) associated with physically relevant classes N_{w,alpha}^gamma of nonlocal potentials in corresponding domains D_{gamma,alpha}^delta of the space C^2 of the complex angular momentum lambda and of the complex momentum k (namely, the square root of the energy). The general expression of T as a quotient Theta(lambda,k)/sigma(lambda,k) of two holomorphic functions in D_{gamma,alpha}^delta is obtained by using the Fredholm-Smithies theory for complex k, at first for lambda=l integer, and in a second step for lambda complex (Real(lambda)>-1/2). Finally, we justify the "Watson resummation" of the partial wave amplitudes in an angular sector of the lambda-plane in terms of the various components of the polar manifold of T with equation sigma(lambda,k)=0. While integrating the basic Regge notion of interpolation of resonances in the upper half-plane of lambda, this unified representation of the singularities of T also provides an attractive possible description of antiresonances in the lower half-plane of lambda. Such a possibility, which is forbidden in the usual theory of local potentials, represents an enriching alternative to the standard Breit-Wigner hard-sphere picture of antiresonances.

Two-point Functions and Quantum Fields in de Sitter Universe

We present a theory of general two-point functions and of generalized free fields in d-dimensional de Sitter space-time which closely parallels the corresponding minkowskian theory. The usual spectral condition is now replaced by a certain geodesic spectral condition, equivalent to a precise thermal characterization of the corresponding ``vacuum''states. Our method is based on the geometry of the complex de Sitter space-time and on the introduction of a class of holomorphic functions on this manifold, called perikernels, which reproduce mutatis mutandis the structural properties of the two-point correlation functions of the minkowskian quantum field theory. The theory contains as basic elementary case the linear massive field models in their ``preferred'' representation. The latter are described by the introduction of de Sitter plane waves in their tube domains which lead to a new integral representation of the two-point functions and to a Fourier-Laplace type transformation on the hyperboloid. The Hilbert space structure of these theories is then analysed by using this transformation. In particular we show the Reeh-Schlieder property. For general two-point functions, a substitute to the Wick rotation is defined both in complex space-time and in the complex mass variable, and substantial results concerning the derivation of Kallen-Lehmann type representation are obtained.

Connection between the harmonic analysis on the sphere and the harmonic analysis on the one-sheeted hyperboloid: an analytic continuation viewpoint

In a previous paper $[$B,V-1$]$, an algebra of holomorphic ``perikernels'' on a complexified hyperboloid $ X^{(c)}_{d-1} $ (in $\Bbb C^d)$ has been introduced; each perikernel $ {\cal K} $ can be seen as the analytic continuation of a kernel $ {\bf K} $ on the unit sphere $ \Bbb S^{d-1} $ in an appropriate ``cut-domain'' , while the jump of $ {\cal K} $ across the corresponding ``cut'' defines a Volterra kernel $ K $ (in the sense of J. Faraut $\lbrack$Fa-1$\rbrack$) on the one-sheeted hyperboloid $ X_{d-1} $ (in $ \Bbb R^d). $ \par In the present paper, we obtain results of harmonic analysis for classes of perikernels which are invariant under the group $ {\rm SO}(d,\Bbb C) $ and of moderate growth at infinity. For each perikernel $ {\cal K} $ in such a class, the Fourier-Legendre coefficients of the corresponding kernel $ {\bf K} $ on $ \Bbb S^{d-1} $ admit a carlsonian analytic interpolation $ \tilde F(λ) $ in a half-plane, which is the ``spherical Laplace transform''\ of the associated Volterra kernel $K$ on $ X_{d-1}. $ Moreover, the composition law $ {\cal K }= {\cal K}_1\ast^{( c)}{\cal K}_2 $ for perikernels (interpreted in terms of convolutions for the
