We analyze the asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of an elliptic operator with mixed boundary conditions on cylindrical domains when the length of the cylinder goes to infinity. We identify the correct limiting problem and show in particular, that in general the limiting behavior is very different from the one for the Dirichlet boundary conditions.
We introduce an equivalence relation on Ws,p(SN;SN) involving the topological degree, and we evaluate the distances (in the usual sense and in the Hausdorff sense) between the equivalence classes. In some special cases we even obtain exact formulas.
For a reduced Ginzburg-Landau model in which the magnetic field is neglected, we prove, for weak electric currents, the existence of a steady-state solution in a vicinity of the purely superconducting state. We further show that this solution is linearly stable.
We consider the minimization of a p-Ginzburg-Landau energy functional over the class of radially symmetric functions of degree one. We prove the existence of a unique minimizer in this class, and show that its modulus is monotone increasing and concave. We also study the asymptotic limit of the minimizers as p \rightarrow \infty. Finally, we prove that the radially symmetric solution is locally stable for p in the interval (2,4].
