A note on the zeros and local extrema of Digamma related functions

Little is known about the zeros of the Digamma function. Establishing some Weierstrassian infinite product representations for a given regularization of the Digamma function we find interesting sums of its zeros. In addition, we study the same questions for the zeros of the logarithmic derivative of the Barnes GG function. At the end of the paper we provide rather accurate approximations of the hyperfactorial where, rather interestingly, the Lambert function appears.

On the coefficients of power sums of arithmetic progressions

We investigate the coefficients of the polynomial Sm,rn(ℓ)=rn+(m+r)n+(2m+r)n+⋯+((ℓ−1)m+r)n. S_{m,r}^n(\ell)=r^n+(m+r)^n+(2m+r)^n+\cdots+((\ell-1)m+r)^n. We prove that these can be given in terms of Stirling numbers of the first kind and rr-Whitney numbers of the second kind. Moreover, we prove a necessary and sufficient condition for the integrity of these coefficients.

On the generalization of the Lambert WW function with applications in theoretical physics

The Lambert WW function, giving the solutions of a simple transcendental equation, has become a famous function and arises in many applications in combinatorics, physics, or population dyamics just to mention a few. In the last decade it turned out that some specific relativistic equations and molecular physics problems need solutions of more general transcendental equations. Thus a generalization of the Lambert function is necessary. In this paper we construct this generalization which involves some special polynomials.

Some physical applications of generalized Lambert functions

In this paper we review the physical applications of the generalized Lambert function recently defined by the first author. Among these applications we mention the eigenstate anomaly of the H2+H_2^+ ion, the two dimensional two-body problem in general relativity, the stability analysis of delay differential equations and water-wave applications. We also point out that the inverse Langevin function is nothing else but a specially parametrized generalized Lambert function.

Radii of starlikeness and convexity of some qq-Bessel functions

Geometric properties of the Jackson and Hahn-Exton qq-Bessel functions are studied. For each of them, three different normalizations are applied in such a way that the resulting functions are analytic in the unit disk of the complex plane. For each of the six functions we determine the radii of starlikeness and convexity precisely by using their Hadamard factorization. These are qq-generalizations of some known results for Bessel functions of the first kind. The characterization of entire functions from the Laguerre-Pólya class via hyperbolic polynomials play an important role in this paper. Moreover, the interlacing property of the zeros of Jackson and Hahn-Exton qq-Bessel functions and their derivatives is also useful in the proof of the main results. We also deduce a sufficient and necessary condition for the close-to-convexity of a normalized Jackson qq-Bessel function and its derivatives. Some open problems are proposed at the end of the paper.
