Observing true tauonium via two-photon fusion at $e^+e^-$ and hadron colliders

The feasibility of observing true tauonium, the bound state of two tau leptons, $\mathcal{T}_0\equiv(τ^+τ^-)_0$, via photon-photon collisions at $e^+e^-$ colliders and at the LHC, is studied. The production cross sections of the process $γγ\to\mathcal{T}_0\toγγ$ -- as well as those of all relevant backgrounds: spin-0 and 2 charmonium resonances decaying to diphotons, and light-by-light scattering -- are computed in the equivalent photon approximation for $e^+e^-$ collisions at BES III ($\sqrt{s} = 3.8$ GeV), Belle II ($\sqrt{s} = 10.6$ GeV), and FCC-ee ($\sqrt{s} = 91.2$ GeV), as well as for ultraperipheral p-p, p-Pb, and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. Despite small $\mathcal{T}_0$ production cross sections and a final state swamped by decays from overlapping pseudoscalar and tensor charmonium states -- the $\mathrm{χ_{c2}}$, $\mathrm{η_{c}(2S)}$, and $\mathrm{χ_{c0}}$ states have masses only 2.5, 84, and 139 MeV away, respectively, from the $\mathcal{T}_0$ peak -- evidence and observation of the ground state of the heaviest leptonium appears feasible at Belle II and FCC-ee, respectively, with in-situ high-precision measurements of the irreducible backgrounds.

$J/ψ$ meson production in association with an open charm hadron at the LHC: A reappraisal

We critically (re)examine the associated production process of a $J/ψ$ meson plus an open charm hadron at the LHC in the proton-proton ($pp$) and proton-lead ($p{\rm Pb}$) collisions. Such a process is very intriguing in the sense of tailoring to explore the double parton structure of nucleons and to determine the geometry of partons in nuclei. In order to interpret the existing $pp$ data with the LHCb detector at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV, we introduce two overlooked mechanisms for the double parton scattering (DPS) and single parton scattering (SPS) processes. Besides the conventional DPS mode, where the two mesons are produced almost independently in the two separate scattering subprocesses, we propose a novel DPS mechanism that the two constituent (heavy) quarks stemming from two hard scatterings can form into a composite particle, like the $J/ψ$ meson, during the hadronization phase. However, it turns out the corresponding contribution is small in $J/ψ+c\bar{c}$ hadroproduction. On the contrary, we point out that the resummation of the initial state logarithms due to gluon splitting into a charm quark pair is crucial to understand the LHCb measurement, which was overlooked in the literature. We perform a proper matching between the perturbative calculations in different initial-quark flavor number schemes, generically referring to the variable flavor number scheme. The new variable flavor number scheme calculation for the process strongly enhance the SPS cross sections, almost closing the discrepancies between theory and experiment. Finally, we present our predictions for the forthcoming LHCb measurement in $p{\rm Pb}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8.16$ TeV. Some interesting observables are exploited to set up the control regions of the DPS signal and to probe the impact-parameter dependent parton densities in lead.

Complete NLO QCD study of single- and double-quarkonium hadroproduction in the colour-evaporation model at the Tevatron and the LHC

We study the Single-Parton-Scattering (SPS) production of double quarkonia (J/psi+J/psi, J/psi+Upsilon, and Upsilon+Upsilon) in pp and pp(bar) collisions at the LHC and the Tevatron as measured by the CMS, ATLAS, LHCb, and D0 experiments in the Colour-Evaporation Model (CEM), based on the quark-hadron-duality, including Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) QCD corrections up to alpha_s^5. To do so, we also perform the first true NLO --up to alpha_s^4-- study of the p_T-differential cross section for single-quarkonium production. This allows us to fix the non-perturbative CEM parameters at NLO accuracy in the region where quarkonium-pair data are measured. Our results show that the CEM at NLO in general significantly undershoots these experimental data and, in view of the other existing SPS studies, confirm the need for Double Parton Scattering (DPS) to account for the data. Our NLO study of single-quarkonium production at mid and large p_T also confirms the difficulty of the approach to account for the measured p_T spectra; this is reminiscent of the impossibility to fit single-quarkonium data with the sole 3S18 NRQCD contribution from gluon fragmentation. We stress that the discrepancy occurs in a kinematical region where the new features of the improved CEM are not relevant.

Higgs boson pair production via gluon fusion at N$^3$LO in QCD

We present next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) QCD predictions for the Higgs boson pair production via gluon fusion at hadron colliders in the infinite top-quark mass limit. Besides the inclusive total cross sections at various collision energies, we also provide the invariant mass distribution of the Higgs boson pair. Our results show that the N$^3$LO QCD corrections enhance the next-to-next-to-leading order cross section by $3.0\%$ ($2.7\%$) at $\sqrt{s}=13~(100)$ TeV, while the scale uncertainty is reduced substantially below $3\%$ ($2\%$). We also find that a judicious scale choice can significantly improve the perturbative convergence. For the invariant mass distribution, our calculation demonstrates that the N$^3$LO corrections improve the scale dependence but almost do not change the shape.

Probing impact-parameter dependent nuclear parton densities from double parton scatterings in heavy-ion collisions

We propose a new method to determine the spatially or impact-parameter dependent nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) using the double parton scattering (DPS) processes in high-energy heavy-ion (proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus) collisions. We derive a simple generic DPS formula in nuclear collisions by accommodating both the nuclear collision geometry and the spatially dependent nuclear modification effect, under the assumption that the impact-parameter dependence of nPDFs is only related to the nuclear thickness function. While the geometric effect is widely adopted, the impact of the spatially dependent nuclear modification on DPS cross sections has been overlooked so far, which can, however, be significant when the initial nuclear modification is large. In turn, the DPS cross sections in heavy-ion collisions can provide useful information on the spatial dependence of nPDFs. They can be, in general, obtained in minimum-bias nuclear collisions, featuring the virtue of independence of Glauber modeling.

Rare two-body decays of the top quark into a bottom meson plus an up or charm quark

Rare two-body decays of the top quark into a neutral bottom-quark meson plus an up- or charm-quark: $t\to {\overline B}^0+ u, c$; $t\to {\overline B}^0_{s}+ c,u$; and $t \to Υ(nS)+ c,u$, are studied for the first time. The corresponding partials widths are computed at leading order in the non-relativistic QCD framework. The sums of all two-body branching ratios amount to $\mathcal{B}(t \to {\overline B}^0+ {\rm jet}) \approx \mathcal{B}(t \to {\overline B}^0_{s}+ {\rm jet}) \approx 4.2\cdot 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(t \to Υ(nS)+ {\rm jet}) \approx 2\cdot 10^{-9}$, respectively. The feasibility to observe the $t\to {\overline B}^0_{(s)}+{\rm jet}$ decay is estimated in top-pair events produced in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 14, 100$ TeV at the LHC and FCC, respectively. Combining many exclusive hadronic ${\overline B}^0_{(s)}$ decays, with $J/ψ$ or $D^{0,\pm}$ final states, about 50 (16000) events are expected in 3 (20) ab$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at the LHC (FCC), after typical selection criteria, acceptance, and efficiency losses. An observation of the two-body top-quark decay can also be achieved in the interesting $t\to b(\rm{jet})+c(\rm{jet})$ dijet final state, where the ${\overline B}^0_{(s)}$ decay products are reconstructed as a jet, with 5300 and 1.4 million signal events above backgrounds expected after selection criteria at the LHC and FCC, respectively. Such unique final states provide a new direct method to precisely measure the top-quark mass via simple 2-body invariant mass analyses.

The gluon-fusion production of Higgs boson pair: N$^3$LO QCD corrections and top-quark mass effects

The Higgs boson pair production via gluon fusion at high-energy hadron colliders, such as the LHC, is vital in deciphering the Higgs potential and in pinning down the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism. We carry out the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) QCD calculations in the infinite top-quark mass limit and present predictions for both the inclusive and differential cross sections, albeit the differential distributions other than the invariant mass distribution of the Higgs boson pair are approximated at N$^3$LO. Such corrections are indispensable in stabilising the perturbative expansion of the cross section in the strong coupling $α_s$. At the inclusive level, the scale uncertainties are reduced by a factor of four compared with the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) results. Given that the inclusion of the top-quark mass effects is essential for the phenomenological applications, we use several schemes to incorporate the N$^3$LO results in the infinite top-quark mass limit and the next-to-leading order (NLO) results with full top-quark mass dependence, and present theoretical predictions for the (differential) cross sections in the proton-proton collisions at the centre-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=13,14,27$ and $100$ TeV. Our results provide one of the most precise theoretical inputs for the analyses of the Higgs boson pair events.

Associated Quarkonium Hadroproduction at High-Energy Colliders

Quarkonium production in proton-proton collision is interesting in profiling the partons inside the nucleon. Recently, the impact of double parton scatterings (DPSs) was suggested by experimental data of associated quarkonium production (J/psi+Z, J/psi+W, and J/psi+J/psi) at the LHC and Tevatron, in addition to single parton scatterings (SPSs). In this proceedings contribution, we review the extraction of the effective parameter of the DPS through the evaluation of the SPS contributions under quark-hadron duality.

Automated simulations beyond the Standard Model: supersymmetry

The MadGraph5 aMC@NLO framework aims to automate all types of leading- and next-to-leading-order-accurate simulations for any user-defined model that stems from a renormalisable Lagrangian. In this paper, we present all of the key ingredients of such models in the context of supersymmetric theories. In order to do so, we extend the FeynRules package by giving it the possibility of dealing with different renormalisation options that are relevant to supersymmetric models. We also show how to deal with the problem posed by the presence of narrow resonances, thus generalising the so-called on-shell subtraction approaches. We extensively compare our total rate results with those of both Prospino2 and Resummino, and present illustrative applications relevant to the 13 TeV LHC, both at the total-rate and differential levels. The computer programs that we have used to obtain the predictions presented here are all publicly available.

Associated production of a quarkonium and a Z boson at one loop in a quark-hadron-duality approach

In view of the large discrepancy about the associated production of a prompt $J/ψ$ and a $Z$ boson between the ATLAS data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV and theoretical predictions for Single Parton Scattering (SPS) contributions, we perform an evaluation of the corresponding cross section at one loop accuracy (Next-to-Leading Order, NLO) in a quark-hadron-duality approach, also known as the Colour-Evaporation Model (CEM). This work is motivated by (i) the extremely disparate predictions based on the existing NRQCD fits conjugated with the absence of a full NLO NRQCD computation and (ii) the fact that we believe that such an evaluation provides a likely upper limit of the SPS cross section. In addition to these theory improvements, we argue that the ATLAS estimation of the Double Parton Scattering (DPS) yield may be underestimated by a factor as large as 3 which then reduces the size of the SPS yield extracted from the ATLAS data. Our NLO SPS evaluation also allows us to set an upper limit on $σ_{\rm eff}$ driving the size of the DPS yield. Overall, the discrepancy between theory and experiment may be smaller than expected, which calls for further analyses by ATLAS and CMS, for which we provide predictions, and for full NLO computations in other models. As an interesting side product of our analysis, we have performed the first NLO computation of $dσ/ dP_T$ for prompt single-$J/ψ$ production in the CEM from which we have fit the CEM non-pertubative parameter at NLO using the most recent ATLAS data.

Complete Study of Hadroproduction of a $Υ$ Meson Associated with a Prompt $J/ψ$

We present the first complete study of $Υ$ and prompt $J/ψ$ production from single-parton scattering, including the complete $\mathcal{O}(α_S^6)$ color-singlet contribution, the $\mathcal{O}(α_S^2α^2)$ electroweak contribution, the complete nonrelativistic S-wave and P-wave color-octet contribution as well as the feeddown contribution. Our study was motivated by the recent evidence reported by D0 Collaboration of prompt $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ simultaneous production at the Tevatron. With our complete evaluation, we are able to refine the determination of the double parton scattering contribution made by D0 Collaboration. We find that the effective cross section characterizing the importance of double-parton scatterings is $σ_{\rm eff}\le 8.2$ mb at $68\%$ confidence level from the D0 measurement.

Di-J/psi production at the Tevatron and the LHC

We briefly review recent results which we have obtained in the study of J/psi-pair production at the Tevatron and the LHC. We claim that the existing data set from CMS and D0 point at a significant double-parton-scattering contribution with an effective cross section smaller than that for jet-related observables. We have also derived simple relations involving feed-down fractions from excited states which can help in disentangling the single from the double scatterings.

Matching next-to-leading order predictions to parton showers in supersymmetric QCD

We present a fully automated framework based on the FeynRules and MadGraph5 aMC@NLO programs that allows for accurate simulations of supersymmetric QCD processes at the LHC. Starting directly from a model Lagrangian that features squark and gluino interactions, event generation is achieved at the next-to-leading order in QCD, matching short-distance events to parton showers and including the subsequent decay of the produced supersymmetric particles. As an application, we study the impact of higher-order corrections in gluino pair-production in a simplified benchmark scenario inspired by current gluino LHC searches.

Towards an automated tool to evaluate the impact of the nuclear modification of the gluon density on quarkonium, D and B meson production in proton-nucleus collisions

We propose a simple and model-independent procedure to account for the impact of the nuclear modification of the gluon density as encoded in nuclear collinear PDF sets on two-to-two partonic hard processes in proton-nucleus collisions. This applies to a good approximation to quarkonium, D and B meson production, generically referred to H. Our procedure consists in parametrising the square of the parton scattering amplitude, A_{gg -> H X} and constraining it from the proton-proton data. Doing so, we have been able to compute the corresponding nuclear modification factors for J/psi, Upsilon and D^0 as a function of y and P_T at sqrt(s_NN)=5 and 8 TeV in the kinematics of the various LHC experiments in a model independent way. It is of course justified since the most important ingredient in such evaluations is the probability of each kinematical configuration. Our computations for D mesons can also be extended to B meson production. To further illustrate the potentiality of the tool, we provide --for the first time-- predictions for the nuclear modification factor for eta_c production in pPb collisions at the LHC.

$η_c$ production at LHC and indications on the understanding of $J/ψ$ production

We present a complete evaluation for the prompt $η_c$ production at the LHC at next-to-leading order in $α_s$ in nonrelativistic QCD. By assuming heavy quark spin symmetry, the recently observed $η_c$ production data by LHCb results in a very strong constraint on the upper bound of the color-octet long distance matrix element $1S0$ of $J/ψ$. We find this upper bound is consistent with our previous study of the $J/ψ$ yield and polarization and can give good descriptions for the measurements, but inconsistent with some other theoretical estimates. This may provide important information for understanding the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formulism.

Automated next-to-leading order predictions for new physics at the LHC: the case of colored scalar pair production

We present for the first time the full automation of collider predictions matched with parton showers at the next-to-leading accuracy in QCD within non-trivial extensions of the Standard Model. The sole inputs required from the user are the model Lagrangian and the process of interest. As an application of the above, we explore scenarios beyond the Standard Model where new colored scalar particles can be pair produced in hadron collisions. Using simplified models to describe the new field interactions with the Standard Model, we present precision predictions for the LHC within the MadGraph5 aMC@NLO framework.

Double-quarkonium production at a fixed-target experiment at the LHC (AFTER@LHC)

We present predictions for double-quarkonium production in the kinematical region relevant for the proposed fixed-target experiment using the LHC beams (dubbed as AFTER@LHC). These include all spin-triplet S -wave charmonium and bottomonium pairs, i.e. Psi(n_1S) + Psi(n_2S), Psi(n_1S) + Upsilon(m_1S) and Upsilon(m_1S) + Upsilon(m_2S ) with n_1,n_2 = 1,2 and m_1,m_2 = 1,2,3. We calculate the contributions from double-parton scatterings and single-parton scatterings. With an integrated luminosity of 20 fb-1 to be collected at AFTER@LHC, we find that the yields for double-charmonium production are large enough for differential distribution measurements. We discuss some differential distributions for J/Psi + J/Psi production, which can help to study the physics of double-parton and single-parton scatterings in a new energy range and which might also be sensitive to double intrinsic c-bar(c) coalescence at large negative Feynman x.

HELAC-Onia 2.0: an upgraded matrix-element and event generator for heavy quarkonium physics

We present an upgraded version (denoted as version 2.0) of the program HELAC-Onia for the automated computation of heavy-quarkonium helicity amplitudes within non-relativistic QCD framework. The new code has been designed to include many new and useful features for practical phenomenological simulations. It is designed for job submissions under cluster enviroment for parallel computations via Python scripts. We have interfaced HELAC-Onia to the parton shower Monte Carlo programs Pythia 8 and QEDPS to take into account the parton-shower effects. Moreover, the decay module guarantees that the program can perform the spin-entangled (cascade-)decay of heavy quarkonium after its generation. We have also implemented a reweighting method to automatically estimate the uncertainties from renormalization and/or factorization scales as well as parton-distribution functions to weighted or unweighted events. A futher update is the possiblity to generate one-dimensional or two-dimensional plots encoded in the analysis files on the fly. Some dedicated examples are given at the end of the writeup.

J/psi-Pair Production at Large Momenta: Indications for Double-Parton Scatterings and Large alpha_s^5 Contributions

We demonstrate that the recent studies of J/psi-pair production by CMS at the LHC and by D0 at the Tevatron reveal the presence of different production mechanisms in different kinematical regions. We find out that next-to-leading-order single parton scattering contributions at alpha_s^5 dominate the yield at large transverse momenta of the pair. Our analysis further emphasises the importance of double parton scatterings --which are expected to dominate the yield at large J/psi-rapidity differences-- at large invariant masses of the pair in the CMS acceptance, and thereby solve a large discrepancy between the theory and the CMS data. In addition, we provide the first exact --gauge-invariant and infrared-safe-- evaluation of a class of leading-P_T (P_T^-4) next-to-next-to-leading-order contributions at alpha_s^6, which can be relevant in the region of large values of P_T,min=min(P_T1,P_T2). Finally, we derive simple relations for the feed-down fractions from the production of an excited charmonium state with a J/psi in the case of the dominance of the double parton scatterings, which significantly deviate from those for single parton scatterings. Such relations can be used to discriminate these extreme scenari, either DPS or SPS dominance.

Initial state radiation effects in inclusive $J/ψ$ production at B factories

Based on Monte Carlo techniques, we analyze the initial state radiation (ISR) effects in prompt $\jpsi$ inclusive production at B factories. ISR enhances cross section $σ(e^-e^+\to\jpsi+gg+X)$ by about $15-25\%$, which is almost the same size as the QCD and relativistic correction. Moreover, ISR slightly changes $σ(e^-e^+\to\jpsi+c\bar{c}+X)$. The $\jpsi$ momentum spectrum in $e^-e^+\to\jpsi+gg+X$ and in $e^-e^+\to\jpsi+c\bar{c}+X$ is softer after the photon showering from the initial $e^{\pm}$ beam radiation. After combining the QCD,relativistic, and ISR corrections,a more precise theoretical result is obtained. The new result provides a more stringent constraint of the color-octet contribution to $σ(e^-e^+\to\jpsi+X_{\rm{non-}c\bar{c}})$.

Probing Heavy Quarkonium Production Mechnism: $χ_c$ polarization

The necessicity of the color-octet mechanism in describing heavy quarkonium production is a longstanding puzzle. Compared to the yields of heavy quarkonium, its polarizations should be a sensitive observable to pin down the color-octet contributions. In this talk, I will focus on the $χ_c$ polarization in hadroproduction processes, which may provide a unique test for the color-octet mechanism in nonrelativistic QCD.

Spin correlations in polarizations of P-wave charmonia $χ_{cJ}$ and impact on $J/ψ$ polarization

Based on a general form of the effective vertex functions for the decays of P-wave charmonia $\chicj$, angular distribution formulas for the subsequent decays $\chicj\rightarrow \jpsi γ$ and $\jpsi \to μ^+μ^-$ are derived. The formulas are the same as those obtained in a different approach in the literature. Our formulas are expressed in a more general form, including parity violation effects and the full angular dependence of $\jpsi$ and muon in the cascade decay $\chicj\to\jpsiγ\toμ^+μ^-γ$. The $\chicj$ polarization observables are expressed in terms of rational functions of the spin density matrix elements of $\chicj$ production. Generalized rotation-invariant relations for arbitrary integer-spin particles are also derived and their expressions in terms of observable angular distribution parameters are given in the $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$. To complement our previous direct-$\jpsi$ polarization result, we also discuss the impact on the observable prompt-$\jpsi$ polarization. As an illustrative application of our angular distribution formulas, we present the angular distributions in terms of the tree-level spin density matrix elements of $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ production in several different frames at the Large Hadron Collider. Moreover, a reweighting method is also proposed to determine the entire set of the production spin density matrix elements of the $χ_{c2}$, some of which disappear or are suppressed for vanishing higher-order multipole effects making the complete extraction difficult experimentally.

HELAC-Onia: an automatic matrix element generator for heavy quarkonium physics

By the virtues of the Dyson-Schwinger equations, we upgrade the published code \mtt{HELAC} to be capable to calculate the heavy quarkonium helicity amplitudes in the framework of NRQCD factorization, which we dub \mtt{HELAC-Onia}. We rewrote the original \mtt{HELAC} to make the new program be able to calculate helicity amplitudes of multi P-wave quarkonium states production at hadron colliders and electron-positron colliders by including new P-wave off-shell currents. Therefore, besides the high efficiencies in computation of multi-leg processes within the Standard Model, \mtt{HELAC-Onia} is also sufficiently numerical stable in dealing with P-wave quarkonia (e.g. $h_{c,b},χ_{c,b}$) and P-wave color-octet intermediate states. To the best of our knowledge, it is a first general-purpose automatic quarkonium matrix elements generator based on recursion relations on the market.

Production of J/psi+eta(c) vs. J/psi+J/psi at the LHC: Impact of Real alpha_s^5 corrections

We proceed for the first time to the evaluation of the Born cross section for J/psi+eta(c) production, namely via g+g -> J/psi+eta(c)+g, and show that it has a harder P_T spectrum than the J/psi-pair yield at Born level. If one stuck to a comparison at Born level, one would conclude that J/psi+eta(c) production would surpass that of J/psi+J/psi at large P_T. This is nonetheless not the case since J/psi-pair production, as for single J/psi, receives leading-P_T contributions at higher orders in alpha_s. We also present the first evaluation of these leading-P_T next-to-leading order contributions. These are indeed significant for increasing P_T and are of essential relevance for comparison with forthcoming data. We also compute kinematic correlations relevant for double-parton-scattering studies. Finally, we evaluate the polarisation of a J/psi accompanied either by a eta(c) or a J/psi and another light parton. These results may be of great help to understand the polarisation of quarkonia produced at high energies.

Feynman Rules for the Rational Part of One-loop QCD Corrections in the MSSM

The complete set of Feynman rules for the rational part R of QCD corrections in the MSSM are calculated at the one-loop level, which can be very useful in the next-to-leading order calculations in supersymmetric models. Our results are expressed in the 't Hooft-Veltman regularization scheme and in the Four Dimensional Helicity scheme with non-anticommutating and anticommutating $γ_5$ strategies.

J/psi polarization at hadron colliders in nonrelativistic QCD

With nonrelativistic QCD factorization, we present a full next-to-leading order computation of the polarization observable for $J/psi$ production at hadron colliders including all important Fock states, i.e. $^3S_1[1,8]$, $^1S_0[8]$, and $^3P_J[8]$. We find the $^3P_J[8]$ channel contributes a positive longitudinal component and a negative transverse component. So the $J/psi$ polarization puzzle may be understood as the transverse components canceling between $^3S_1[8]$ and $^3P_J[8]$ channels, which results in mainly the unpolarized (even slightly longitudinally polarized) $J/psi$. This may give a possible solution to the long-standing $J/psi$ polarization puzzle. Predictions for $J/psi$ polarization at the LHC are also presented.

Reduction Schemes in Cutoff Regularization and Higgs Decay into Two Photons

We present a new systematic method to evaluate one-loop tensor integrals in conventional ultraviolet cutoff regularization. By deriving a new recursive relation that describes the momentum translation variance of ultraviolet integrals, we implement this relation in the Passarino-Veltman reduction method. With this method, we recalculated the Higgs boson decay into two photons process at one-loop level in the Standard Model. We reanalyze this process carefully and clarify some issues arisen recently in cutoff regularization.

Dijet Invariant Mass Distribution in Top Quark Hadronic Decay with QCD Corrections

The dijet invariant mass distributions from the hadronic decay of unpolarized top quark ($t\to b W^+$ followed by $W^+\to u \bar{d}$) are calculated, including the next-to-leading order QCD radiative corrections. We treat the top decay in the complex mass scheme due to the existence of the intermediate state W boson. Our analytical expressions are also available in different dimensional regularization schemes and $γ_5$ strategies. Finally, in order to construct the jets, we use different jet algorithms to compare their influences on our results. The obtained dijet mass distributions from the top quark decay are useful to distinguish these dijets from those produced via other sources and to clarify the issue about the recent CDF Collaborations' $Wjj$ anomaly.

Feynman Rules for the Rational Part of the Standard Model One-loop Amplitudes in the 't Hooft-Veltman $γ_5$ Scheme

We study Feynman rules for the rational part $R$ of the Standard Model amplitudes at one-loop level in the 't Hooft-Veltman $γ_5$ scheme. Comparing our results for quantum chromodynamics and electroweak 1-loop amplitudes with that obtained based on the Kreimer-Korner-Schilcher (KKS) $γ_5$ scheme, we find the latter result can be recovered when our $γ_5$ scheme becomes identical (by setting $g5s=1$ in our expressions) with the KKS scheme. As an independent check, we also calculate Feynman rules obtained in the KKS scheme, finding our results in complete agreement with formulae presented in the literature. Our results, which are studied in two different $γ_5$ schemes, may be useful for clarifying the $γ_5$ problem in dimensional regularization. They are helpful to eliminate or find ambiguities arising from different dimensional regularization schemes.

Leptonic Decay of Upsilon, a Possible Signature of New Physics

We calculate the inclusive decay width of $Υ\to l^+ l^-$. Then we get the ratio $R_{τμ}=Γ[Υ\to τ^+τ^-]/ Γ[Υ\to μ^+μ^-]$ to ${\cal{O}}(α)$ and ${\cal{O}}(α_s^2)$ within the Standard Model(SM). Comparing with the recent Babar's data $R_{τμ}=1.005\pm0.013\pm 0.022$, we find that SM prediction $R_{τμ}$ is not consistent with the experimental data in the error bar. The discrepancy is about $1.25σ$. So leptonic decay of $Υ$ may be a possible signature of New Physics(NP). We present a better approach to test the Standard Model, $R_{τμ}(E_{soft})=.Γ[Υ\to τ^+τ^-+X]/ Γ[Υ\to μ^+μ^-+X]|_{E_X<E_{soft}}$. After resumming the large logarithms, we get $R_{τμ}(E_{soft})$ at the precision level of 0.1%. It can be compared with experimental data more precise. We also consider the impact of $R_{τμ}(E_{soft})$ and $R_{τμ}$ from light Higgs $h$ and pseudoscalar Higgs $A_0$.
