μμTRISTAN

The ultra-cold muon technology developed for the muon g−2g-2 experiment at J-PARC provides a low emittance μ+μ^+ beam which can be accelerated and used for realistic collider experiments. We consider the possibility of new collider experiments by accelerating the μ+μ^+ beam up to 1 TeV. Allowing the μ+μ^+ beam to collide with a high intensity e−e^- beam at the TRISTAN energy, Ee−=30E_{e^-}= 30 GeV, in the storage ring with the same size as TRISTAN (the circumference of 3 km), one can realize a collider experiment with the center-of-mass energy s=346\sqrt s = 346 GeV, which allows productions of the Higgs bosons through the vector boson fusion processes. We estimate the deliverable luminosity with existing accelerator technologies to be at the level of 5×10335 \times 10^{33} cm−2^{-2} s−1^{-1}, with which the collider can be a good Higgs boson factory. The μ+μ+μ^+ μ^+ colliders up to s=2\sqrt s = 2 TeV are also possible by using the same storage ring. They have a capability of producing the superpartner of the muon up to TeV masses.

Determination of ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| using N3^3LO perturbative corrections to Γ(B→Xcℓν)Γ(B \to X_c \ell ν) and 1S masses

We determine ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| using the third-order perturbative series for the inclusive semileptonic BB decay width and for the masses of the bottomonium 1S states. We use the masses of ηb(1S)η_b(1S) and Υ(1S)Υ(1S) as short-distance masses and point out that there is a sizable difference of ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| between the two 1S mass schemes. This is the dominant error of our determination and stems from insufficiency to describe theoretically the observed mass splitting of the bottomonium 1S states. We also study the significance of the O(ΛMS‾2)\mathcal{O}(Λ_{\overline{\rm MS}}^2) non-perturbative effects in HQET with respect to the current perturbative accuracy. Our result ∣Vcb∣=0.0425(11)|V_{cb}|=0.0425 (11) is consistent with the PDG value determined from the inclusive decays and has a slightly larger error.

Determination of HQET nonperturbative matrix elements with renormalon subtraction using Fourier transform

As higher order perturbative series are available, it is becoming necessary to include nonperturbative effects in QCD calculations using the OPE. In order to systematically determine nonperturbative effects and to incorporate them into theoretical calculations, the renormalon problem should be resolved. We use a renormalon subtraction method utilizing Fourier transform to determine nonperturbative matrix elements of HQET, Λˉ\barΛ and μπ2μ_π^2. This is the first determination performed with subtraction of the u=1u=1 renormalon.

Renormalon subtraction in OPE using Fourier transform: Formulation and application to various observables

Properly separating and subtracting renormalons in the framework of the operator product expansion (OPE) is a way to realize high precision computation of QCD effects in high energy physics. We propose a new method (FTRS method), which enables to subtract multiple renormalons simultaneously from a general observable. It utilizes a property of Fourier transform, and the leading Wilson coefficient is written in a one-parameter integral form whose integrand has suppressed (or vanishing) renormalons. The renormalon subtraction scheme coincides with the usual principal-value prescription at large orders. We perform test analyses and subtract the O(ΛQCD4){\cal O}(Λ_{\rm QCD}^4) renormalon from the Adler function, the O(ΛQCD2){\cal O}(Λ_{\rm QCD}^2) renormalon from the B→XulνˉB\to X_ul\barν decay width, and the O(ΛQCD){\cal O}(Λ_{\rm QCD}) and O(ΛQCD2){\cal O}(Λ_{\rm QCD}^2) renormalons from the B, DB,\,D meson masses. The analyses show good consistency with theoretical expectations, such as improved convergence and scale dependence. In particular we obtain ΛˉFTRS=0.495±0.053 GeV\barΛ_{\rm FTRS}=0.495\pm0.053~\text{GeV} and(μπ2)FTRS=−0.12±0.23 GeV2 (μ_π^2)_{\rm FTRS}=-0.12\pm 0.23~\text{GeV}^2 for the non-perturbative parameters of HQET. We explain the formulation and analyses in detail.

Identification of perturbative ambiguity canceled against bion

It was conjectured that bions, semi-classical objects found in a compactified spacetime, are responsible for the cancellation of the so-called renormalon ambiguities. Contrary to the conjecture, we argue that the ambiguity due to the bion corresponds to the proliferation of Feynman diagrams. We point out that the amplitudes of almost all Feynman diagrams are enhanced due to modifications of the infrared structure of perturbation theory upon an S1S^1 compactification and twisted boundary conditions. Our findings clarify the role of the semi-classical object in resurgence structure, which has been a controversial issue in recent years.

Infrared renormalon in SU(N)SU(N) QCD(adj.) on R3×S1\mathbb{R}^3\times S^1

We study the infrared renormalon in the gluon condensate in the SU(N)SU(N) gauge theory with nWn_W-flavor adjoint Weyl fermions (QCD(adj.)) on~R3×S1\mathbb{R}^3\times S^1 with the ZN\mathbb{Z}_N twisted boundary conditions. We rely on the so-called large-β0β_0 approximation as a conventional tool to analyze the renormalon, in which only Feynman diagrams that dominate in the large-nWn_W limit are considered while the coefficient of the vacuum polarization is set by hand to the one-loop beta function~β0=11/3−2nW/3β_0=11/3-2n_W/3. In the large~NN limit within the large-β0β_0 approximation, the W-boson, which acquires the twisted Kaluza--Klein momentum, produces the renormalon ambiguity corresponding to the Borel singularity at~u=2u=2. This provides an example that the system in the compactified space~R3×S1\mathbb{R}^3\times S^1 possesses the renormalon ambiguity identical to that in the uncompactified space~R4\mathbb{R}^4. We also discuss the subtle issue that the location of the Borel singularity can change depending on the order of two necessary operations.

Infrared renormalon in the supersymmetric CPN−1\mathbb{C}P^{N-1} model on R×S1\mathbb{R}\times S^1

In the leading order of the large-NN approximation, we study the renormalon ambiguity in the gluon (or, more appropriately, photon) condensate in the 2D supersymmetric CPN−1\mathbb{C}P^{N-1} model on~R×S1\mathbb{R}\times S^1 with the ZN\mathbb{Z}_N twisted boundary conditions. In our large~NN limit, the combination ΛRΛR, where ΛΛ is the dynamical scale and RR~is the S1S^1 radius, is kept fixed (we set ΛR≪1ΛR\ll1 so that the perturbative expansion with respect to the coupling constant at the mass scale~1/R1/R is meaningful). We extract the perturbative part from the large-NN expression of the gluon condensate and obtain the corresponding Borel transform~B(u)B(u). For~R×S1\mathbb{R}\times S^1, we find that the Borel singularity at~u=2u=2, which exists in the system on the uncompactified~R2\mathbb{R}^2 and corresponds to twice the minimal bion action, disappears. Instead, an unfamiliar renormalon singularity \emph{emerges\/} at~u=3/2u=3/2 for the compactified space~R×S1\mathbb{R}\times S^1. The semi-classical interpretation of this peculiar singularity is not clear because u=3/2u=3/2 is not dividable by the minimal bion action. It appears that our observation for the system on~R×S1\mathbb{R}\times S^1 prompts reconsideration on the semi-classical bion picture of the infrared renormalon.

More on the infrared renormalon in SU(N)SU(N) QCD(adj.) on R3×S1\mathbb{R}^3\times S^1

We present additional observations to previous studies on the infrared (IR) renormalon in SU(N)SU(N) QCD(adj.), the SU(N)SU(N) gauge theory with nWn_W-flavor adjoint Weyl fermions on~R3×S1\mathbb{R}^3\times S^1 with the ZN\mathbb{Z}_N twisted boundary condition. First, we show that, for arbitrary finite~NN, a logarithmic factor in the vacuum polarization of the "photon" (the gauge boson associated with the Cartan generators of~SU(N)SU(N)) disappears under the S1S^1~compactification. Since the IR renormalon is attributed to the presence of this logarithmic factor, it is concluded that there is no IR renormalon in this system with finite~NN. This result generalizes the observation made by Anber and~Sulejmanpasic [J. High Energy Phys.\ \textbf{1501}, 139 (2015)] for N=2N=2 and~33 to arbitrary finite~NN. Next, we point out that, although renormalon ambiguities do not appear through the Borel procedure in this system, an ambiguity appears in an alternative resummation procedure in which a resummed quantity is given by a momentum integration where the inverse of the vacuum polarization is included as the integrand. Such an ambiguity is caused by a simple zero at non-zero momentum of the vacuum polarization. Under the decompactification~R→∞R\to\infty, where RR is the radius of the S1S^1, this ambiguity in the momentum integration smoothly reduces to the IR renormalon ambiguity in~R4\mathbb{R}^4. We term this ambiguity in the momentum integration "renormalon precursor". The emergence of the IR renormalon ambiguity in~R4\mathbb{R}^4 under the decompactification can be naturally understood with this notion.

On renormalons of static QCD potential at u=1/2u=1/2 and 3/23/2

We investigate the u=1/2u=1/2 [O(ΛQCD)\mathcal{O}(Λ_{\rm QCD})] and u=3/2u=3/2 [O(ΛQCD3)\mathcal{O}(Λ_{\rm QCD}^3)] renormalons in the static QCD potential in position space and momentum space using the OPE of the potential-NRQCD effective field theory. This is an old problem and we provide a formal formulation to analyze it. In particular we present detailed examinations of the u=3/2u=3/2 renormalons. We clarify how the u=3/2u=3/2 renormalon is suppressed in the momentum-space potential in relation with the Wilson coefficient VA(r)V_A(r). We also point out that it is not straightforward to subtract the IR renormalon and IR divergences simultaneously in the multipole expansion. Numerical analyses are given, which clarify the current status of our knowledge on the perturbative series. The analysis gives a positive reasoning to the method for subtracting renormalons used in recent αs(MZ)α_s(M_Z) determination from the QCD potential.

Renormalon structure in compactified spacetime

We point out that the location of renormalon singularities in theory on a circle-compactified spacetime Rd−1×S1\mathbb{R}^{d-1} \times S^1 (with a small radius RΛ≪1R Λ\ll 1) can differ from that on the non-compactified spacetime Rd\mathbb{R}^d. We argue this under the following assumptions, which are often realized in large NN theories with twisted boundary conditions: (i) a loop integrand of a renormalon diagram is volume independent, i.e. it is not modified by the compactification, and (ii) the loop momentum variable along the S1S^1 direction is not associated with the twisted boundary conditions and takes the values n/Rn/R with integer nn. We find that the Borel singularity is generally shifted by −1/2-1/2 in the Borel uu-plane, where the renormalon ambiguity of O(Λk)\mathcal{O}(Λ^k) is changed to O(Λk−1/R)\mathcal{O}(Λ^{k-1}/R) due to the circle compactification Rd→Rd−1×S1\mathbb{R}^d \to \mathbb{R}^{d-1} \times S^1. The result is general for any dimension dd and is independent of details of the quantities under consideration. As an example, we study the CPN−1\mathbb{C} P^{N-1} model on R×S1\mathbb{R} \times S^1 with ZN\mathbb{Z}_N twisted boundary conditions in the large NN limit.
