Invariance principles for operator-scaling Gaussian random fields

Recently, Hammond and Sheffield introduced a model of correlated random walks that scale to fractional Brownian motions with long-range dependence. In this paper, we consider a natural generalization of this model to dimension $d\geq 2$. We define a $\mathbb Z^d$-indexed random field with dependence relations governed by an underlying random graph with vertices $\mathbb Z^d$, and we study the scaling limits of the partial sums of the random field over rectangular sets. An interesting phenomenon appears: depending on how fast the rectangular sets increase along different directions, different random fields arise in the limit. In particular, there is a critical regime where the limit random field is operator-scaling and inherits the full dependence structure of the discrete model, whereas in other regimes the limit random fields have at least one direction that has either invariant or independent increments, no longer reflecting the dependence structure in the discrete model. The limit random fields form a general class of operator-scaling Gaussian random fields. Their increments and path properties are investigated.

Modulus of continuity of some conditionally sub-Gaussian fields, application to stable random fields

In this paper, we study modulus of continuity and rate of convergence of series of conditionally sub-Gaussian random fields. This framework includes both classical series representations of Gaussian fields and LePage series representations of stable fields. We enlighten their anisotropic properties by using an adapted quasi-metric instead of the classical Euclidean norm. We specify our assumptions in the case of shot noise series where arrival times of a Poisson process are involved. This allows us to state unified results for harmonizable (multi)operator scaling stable random fields through their LePage series representation, as well as to study sample path properties of their multistable analogous.

Crossings of smooth shot noise processes

In this paper, we consider smooth shot noise processes and their expected number of level crossings. When the kernel response function is sufficiently smooth, the mean number of crossings function is obtained through an integral formula. Moreover, as the intensity increases, or equivalently, as the number of shots becomes larger, a normal convergence to the classical Rice's formula for Gaussian processes is obtained. The Gaussian kernel function, that corresponds to many applications in physics, is studied in detail and two different regimes are exhibited.

Optimal Berry-Esseen rates on the Wiener space: the barrier of third and fourth cumulants

Let {F_n} be a normalized sequence of random variables in some fixed Wiener chaos associated with a general Gaussian field, and assume that E[F_n^4] --> E[N^4]=3, where N is a standard Gaussian random variable. Our main result is the following general bound: there exist two finite constants c,C>0 such that, for n sufficiently large, c max(|E[F_n^3]|, E[F_n^4]-3) < d(F_n,N) < C max(|E[F_n^3]|, E[F_n^4]-3), where d(F_n,N) = sup |E[h(F_n)] - E[h(N)]|, and h runs over the class of all real functions with a second derivative bounded by 1. This shows that the deterministic sequence max(|E[F_n^3]|, E[F_n^4]-3) completely characterizes the rate of convergence (with respect to smooth distances) in CLTs involving chaotic random variables. These results are used to determine optimal rates of convergence in the Breuer-Major central limit theorem, with specific emphasis on fractional Gaussian noise.

Hölder regularity for operator scaling stable random fields

We investigate the sample paths regularity of operator scaling alpha-stable random fields. Such fields were introduced as anisotropic generalizations of self-similar fields and satisfy a scaling property for a real matrix E. In the case of harmonizable operator scaling random fields, the sample paths are locally Hölderian and their Hölder regularity is characterized by the eigen decomposition with respect to E. In particular, the directional Hölder regularity may vary and is given by the eigenvalues of E. In the case of moving average operator scaling random alpha-stable random fields, with 0<alpha<2, the sample paths are almost surely discontinous.

Estimation of anisotropic Gaussian fields through Radon transform

We estimate the anisotropic index of an anisotropic fractional Brownian field. For all directions, we give a convergent estimator of the value of the anisotropic index in this direction, based on generalized quadratic variations. We also prove a central limit theorem. First we present a result of identification that relies on the asymptotic behavior of the spectral density of a process. Then, we define Radon transforms of the anisotropic fractional Brownian field and prove that these processes admit a spectral density satisfying the previous assumptions. Finally we use simulated fields to test the proposed estimator in different anisotropic and isotropic cases. Results show that the estimator behaves similarly in all cases and is able to detect anisotropy quite accurately.

Operator Scaling Stable Random Fields

A scalar valued random field is called operator-scaling if it satisfies a self-similarity property for some matrix E with positive real parts of the eigenvalues. We present a moving average and a harmonizable representation of stable operator scaling random fields by utilizing so called E-homogeneous functions. These fields also have stationary increments and are stochastically continuous. In the Gaussian case critical Hölder-exponents and the Hausdorff-dimension of the sample paths are also obtained.
