The determinant, spectral properties, and inverse of a tridiagonal $k$-Toeplitz matrix over a commutative ring

A square matrix is $k$-Toeplitz if its diagonals are periodic sequences of period $k$. We find universal formulas for the determinant, the characteristic polynomial, some eigenvectors, and the entries of the inverse of any tridiagonal $k$-Toeplitz matrix (in particular, of any tridiagonal matrix) over any commutative unital ring, expressed in terms of the elementary operations of the ring. The results are proven using combinatorial identities and elementary linear algebra. We conduct a complexity analysis of algorithms based on our formulas, showing that they are efficient, and we compare our results favourably with those found in the literature. Concretely, the determinant, the characteristic polynomial, and any entry of the inverse of a tridiagonal $k$-Toeplitz matrix of size $n$ can each be found with $O(\displaystyle\log\frac nk+k)$ operations, while an eigenvector can be determined with $O(n+k)$ operations.

Leibniz triple systems admitting a multiplicative basis

Let $(T,\langle \cdot, \cdot, \cdot \rangle)$ be a Leibniz triple system of arbitrary dimension, over an arbitrary base field ${\mathbb F}$. A basis ${\mathcal B} = \{e_{i}\}_{i \in I}$ of $T$ is called multiplicative if for any $i,j,k \in I$ we have that $\langle e_i,e_j,e_k\rangle\in {\mathbb F}e_r$ for some $r \in I$. We show that if $T$ admits a multiplicative basis then it decomposes as the orthogonal direct sum $T= \bigoplus_k{\mathfrak I}_k$ of well-described ideals ${\mathfrak I}_k$ admitting each one a multiplicative basis. Also the minimality of $T$ is characterized in terms of the multiplicative basis and it is shown that, under a mild condition, the above direct sum is by means of the family of its minimal ideals.

Quasicrossed product on G-graded quasialgebras

The notion of quasicrossed product is introduced in the setting of G-graded quasialgebras, i.e., algebras endowed with a grading by a group G, satisfying a "quasiassociative" law. The equivalence between quasicrossed products and quasicrossed systems is explored. It is presented the notion of graded-bimodules in order to study simple quasicrossed products. Deformed group algebras are stressed in particular.

Some (Hopf) algebraic properties of circulant matrices

We study some (Hopf) algebraic properties of circulant matrices, inspired by the fact that the algebra of circulant $n\times n$ matrices is isomorphic to the group algebra of the cyclic group with $n$ elements. We introduce also a class of matrices that generalize both circulant and skew circulant matrices, and for which the eigenvalues and eigenvectors can be read directly from their entries.

Alternative twisted tensor products and Cayley algebras

We introduce what we call "alternative twisted tensor products" for not necessarily associative algebras, as a common generalization of several different constructions: the Cayley-Dickson process, the Clifford process and the twisted tensor product of two associative algebras, one of them being commutative. We show that some very basic facts concerning the Cayley-Dickson process (the equivalence between the two different formulations of it and the lifting of the involution) are particular cases of general results about alternative twisted tensor products of algebras. As a class of examples of alternative twisted tensor products, we introduce a "tripling process" for an algebra endowed with a strong involution, containing the Cayley-Dickson doubling as a subalgebra and sharing some of its basic properties.
