Extremal cacti with respect to Sombor index

Recently, a novel topological index, Sombor index, was introduced by Gutman, defined as SO(G)=∑uv∈E(G)du2+dv2SO(G)=\sum\limits_{uv\in E(G)}\sqrt{d_{u}^{2}+d_{v}^{2}}, where dud_{u} denotes the degree of vertex uu. In this paper, we first determine the maximum Sombor index among cacti with nn vertices and tt cycles, then determine the maximum Sombor index among cacti with perfect matchings. We also characterize corresponding maximum cacti.

Extremal problems on Sombor indices of unicyclic graphs with a given diameter

Sombor index is a novel topological index, which was introduced by Gutman and defined for a graph GG as SO(G)=∑uv∈E(G)du2+dv2SO(G)=\sum\limits_{uv\in E(G)}\sqrt{d_{u}^{2}+d_{v}^{2}}, where du=dG(u)d_{u}=d_{G}(u) denotes the degree of vertex uu in graph GG. Extremal problems on the Sombor index for trees with a given diameter has been considered by Chen et al. [H. Chen, W. Li, J. Wang, Extremal values on the Sombor index of trees, MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem. 87 (2022) 23--49] and Li et al. [S. Li, Z. Wang, M. Zhang, On the extremal Sombor index of trees with a given diameter, Appl. Math. Comput. 416 (2022) 126731]. As an extension of results introduces above, we determine the maximum Sombor indices for unicyclic graphs with a fixed order and given diameter.

Maximum zeroth-order general Randić index of orientations of cacti

The zeroth-order general Randić index Ra+10R^{0}_{a+1} of an nn-vertices oriented graph DD is equal to the sum of (dui+)a+(duj−)a(d^{+}_{u_i})^{a}+(d^{-}_{u_j})^{a} over all arcs uiuju_iu_j of DD, where we denote by dui+d^{+}_{u_i} the out-degree of the vertex uiu_i and duj−d^{-}_{u_j} the in-degree of the vertex uju_j, aa is an arbitrary real number. In the paper, we determine the orientations of cacti with the maximum value of the zeroth-order general Randić index for a≥1a\geq 1.

Proof of an open problem on the Sombor index

The Sombor index is one of the geometry-based descriptors, which was defined as SO(G)=∑uv∈E(G)d2(u)+d2(v),SO(G)=\sum_{uv\in E(G)}\sqrt{d^{2}(u)+d^{2}(v)}, where d(u)d(u) (resp. d(v)d(v)) denotes the degree of vertex uu (resp. vv) in GG. In this note, we determine the maximum and minimum graphs with respect to the Sombor index among the set of graphs with vertex connectivity (resp. edge connectivity) at most kk, which solves an open problem on the Sombor index proposed by Hayat and Rehman [On Sombor index of graphs with a given number of cut-vertices, MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem. 89 (2023) 437--450]. For some of the conclusions of the above paper, we give some counterexamples. At last, we give the QSPR analysis with regression modeling and Sombor index.

Sharp bounds on the symmetric division deg index of graphs and line graphs

For a graph GG with vertex set VGV_{G} and edge set EGE_{G}, the symmetric division deg index is defined as SDD(G)=∑uv∈EG(dudv+dvdu)SDD(G)=\sum\limits_{uv\in E_{G}}(\frac{d_{u}}{d_{v}}+\frac{d_{v}}{d_{u}}), where dud_{u} denotes the degree of vertex uu in GG. In 2018, Furtula et al. confirmed the quality of SDD index exceeds that of some more popular VDB indices, in particular that of the GA index. They shown a close connection between the SDD index and the earlier well-established GA index. Thus it is meaningful and important to consider the chemical and mathematical properties of the SDD index. In this paper, we determine some sharp bounds on the symmetric division deg index of graphs and line graphs and characterize the corresponding extremal graphs.

The Sombor index and coindex of two-trees

The Sombor index of a graph GG, introduced by Ivan Gutman, is defined as the sum of the weights dG(u)2+dG(v)2\sqrt{d_G(u)^2+d_G(v)^2} of all edges uvuv of GG, where dG(u)d_G(u) denotes the degree of vertex uu in GG. The Sombor coindex is recently defined as SOˉ(G)=∑uv∉E(G)dG(u)2+dG(v)2\bar{SO}(G)=\sum \limits_{uv\notin E(G)}\sqrt{d_G(u)^2+d_G(v)^2}. In this paper, the maximum and second maximum Sombor index, the minimum and second minimum Sombor coindex in two-trees are determined.

The spread of generalized reciprocal distance matrix

The generalized reciprocal distance matrix RDα(G)RD_α(G) was defined as RDα(G)=αRT(G)+(1−α)RD(G),0≤α≤1.RD_α(G)=αRT(G)+(1-α)RD(G),\quad 0\leq α\leq 1. Let λ1(RDα(G))≥λ2(RDα(G))≥⋯≥λn(RDα(G))λ_{1}(RD_α(G))\geq λ_{2}(RD_α(G))\geq \cdots \geq λ_{n}(RD_α(G)) be the eigenvalues of RDαRD_α matrix of graphs GG. Then the RDαRD_α-spread of graph GG can be defined as SRDα(G)=λ1(RDα(G))−λn(RDα(G))S_{RD_α}(G)=λ_{1}(RD_α(G))-λ_{n}(RD_α(G)). In this paper, we first obtain some sharp lower and upper bounds for the RDαRD_α-spread of graphs. Then we determine the lower bounds for the RDαRD_α-spread of bipartite graphs and graphs with given clique number. At last, we give the RDαRD_α-spread of double star graphs. Our results generalize the related results of the reciprocal distance matrix and reciprocal distance signless Laplacian matrix.
