A Database of Modular Forms on Noncongruence Subgroups

We present a database of several hundred modular forms up to and including weight six on noncongruence subgroups of index $\leq 17$. In addition, our database contains expressions for the Belyi map for genus zero subgroups and equations of the corresponding elliptic curves for genus one subgroups and numerical approximations of noncongruence Eisenstein series to 1500 digits precision.

On the computation of modular forms on noncongruence subgroups

We present two approaches that can be used to compute modular forms on noncongruence subgroups. The first approach uses Hejhal's method for which we improve the arbitrary precision solving techniques so that the algorithm becomes about up to two orders of magnitude faster in practical computations. This allows us to obtain high precision numerical estimates of the Fourier coefficients from which the algebraic expressions can be identified using the LLL algorithm. The second approach is restricted to genus zero subgroups and uses efficient methods to compute the Belyi map from which the modular forms can be constructed.

On Dirichlet eigenvalues of regular polygons

We prove that the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of a regular $N$-gon of area $π$ has an asymptotic expansion of the form $λ_1(1+\sum_{n\ge3}C_n(λ_1)N^{-n})$ as $N\to\infty$, where $λ_1$ is the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of the unit disk and $C_n$ are polynomials whose coefficients belong to the space of multiple zeta values of weight $n$. We also explicitly compute these polynomials for all $n\le14$.

Unveiling the physics of the doped phase of the Kagome $t-J$ model

We investigate the ground state properties of the Kagome lattice $t-J$ model at low doping. We propose a new state of matter. Our results suggest an interesting phase with a balance of spin-exchange and kinetic exchange through the building blocks of stars and their internal hexagons, being linked by triangles. The particles favor to hop in the hexagons, while the spin-exchange is taking place mainly on the stars. The combined effect leads to the formation of the "Star of David" valence bond crystal. We discuss our result in connection with static impurities, and show the likely relevance to the diluted Kagome lattice Heisenberg model, describing actual compounds.

Lattice Green's functions for kagome, diced and hyperkagome lattices

Lattice Green's functions (LGF) and density of states (DOS) for non-interacting models on 3 related lattices are presented. The DOS and LGF at the origin for the kagome and diced lattices are rederived. Furthermore, from the form obtained for the DOS of the hyperkagome lattice, it seems highly suggestive that a closed form expression can be obtained if a particular complicated yet highly symmetrical integral can be solved. The results have been checked numerically. The continuum of energy states in the hyperkagome lattice and the appearance of a zero in the kagome lattice may be explicitly seen from the formulae obtained.

Spin wave theory for interacting hardcore bosons on cubic lattices: a comparative study

Motivated by excellent comparisons of spin wave theory (SWT) with Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) calculations of non-interacting hardore bosons (Bernardet et al.) and superlattices (Hen et al.), we develop an SWT for interacting hardcore bosons on a d-dimensional cubic lattice at zero temperature and compare thermodynamical properties with results of Stochastic Series Expansions (SSE): there is good comparison between SWT and SSE results for the simple cubic lattice at small repulsive strengths but differences arise between the results of the two approaches for the square lattice at strong repulsions. The boundaries of the three phases - Mott insulating (MI), superfluid (SF) and Néel solid (NS) - can be readily estimated from calculations of particle density, signalling either a first order (SF <--> NS) or second order transition (MI <--> SF). Comparison is made with results of the Bethe ansatz in one dimension and QMC in two dimensions.

Doping on the kagome lattice: A variational Monte-Carlo study of the $t-J$ model

We study doping on the Kagome lattice by exploring the $t-J$-model with variational Monte-Carlo. We use a number of Gutzwiller projected spin-liquid and valence bond-crystal states and compare their energies at several system-sizes. We find that introducing mobile holes drives the system away from the Spin-Liquid state proposed by Ran et al for the undoped system, towards a uniform state with zero-flux. On top of the uniform-state a VBC of the Hastings-type is formed for low doping. The results are compared to exact diagonalization on small clusters. This agrees well.

Strong coupling expansion for bosons on the kagome lattice

We use series expansion techniques for analyzing properties of the phase transition between the Mott insulating and superfluid phase for bosons on the kagome lattice, and the multicritical point in the ground-state phase diagram for unit-filling is calculated. It is seen that of the clusters that contribute with non-zero weights to the ground state energy, many contain rings. The decay exponents of ground state correlations are also obtained within the Mott phase. For single-particle excited states, quasiparticle dispersion and effective masses for particles and holes are computed along certain symmetry cuts in the first Brillouin zone. Furthermore at eighth order, the coherence-length critical exponent is found to be comparably close to that of the 3D XY model.

Dynamical cluster approximation study of the anisotropic two-orbital Hubbard model

We investigate the properties of a two-orbital Hubbard model with unequal bandwidths on the square lattice in the framework of the dynamical cluster approximation (DCA) combined with a continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo (CT QMC) algorithm. We explore the effect of short-range spatial fluctuations on the nature of the metal-insulator transition and the possible occurrence of an orbital-selective Mott transition (OSMT), as a function of cluster size $N_c$. We observe that for $N_c=2$ no OSMT is present, instead a band insulator state for both orbitals is stabilized at low temperatures due to the appearance of an artificial local ordered state. For $N_c=4$ the DCA calculations suggest the presence of five different phases which originate out of the cooperation and competition between spatial fluctuations and orbitals of different bandwidths and a OSMT phase is stabilized. Based on our results, we discuss the nature of the gap opening.

Lattice susceptibility for 2D Hubbard Model within dual fermion method

In this paper, we present details of the dual fermion (DF) method to study the non-local correction to single site DMFT. The DMFT two-particle Green's function is calculated using continuous time quantum monte carlo (CT-QMC) method. The momentum dependence of the vertex function is analyzed and its renormalization based on the Bethe-Salpeter equation is performed in particle-hole channel. We found a magnetic instability in both the dual and the lattice fermions. The lattice fermion susceptibility is calculated at finite temperature in this method and also in another recently proposed method, namely dynamical vertex approximation (D$Γ$A). The comparison between these two methods are presented in both weak and strong coupling region. Compared to the susceptibility from quantum monte carlo (QMC) simulation, both of them gave satisfied results.

Exact Results for the Crossover from Gaussian to Non-Gaussian Order Parameter Fluctuations in Quasi One-Dimensional Electronic Systems

The physics of quasi one-dimensional Peierls systems is dominated by order parameter fluctuations. We present an algorithm which allows for the first time to exactly calculate physical properties of the electrons gas coupled to classical order parameter fluctuations. The whole range from the Gaussian regime dominated by amplitude fluctuations to the non-Gaussian regime dominated by phase fluctuations is accessible. Our results provide insight into the 'pseudogap' phenomenon occurring in underdoped high-temperature superconductors, quasi one-dimensional organic conductors and liquid metals.
