Predicting Drought and Subsidence Risks in France

The economic consequences of drought episodes are increasingly important, although they are often difficult to apprehend in part because of the complexity of the underlying mechanisms. In this article, we will study one of the consequences of drought, namely the risk of subsidence (or more specifically clay shrinkage induced subsidence), for which insurance has been mandatory in France for several decades. Using data obtained from several insurers, representing about a quarter of the household insurance market, over the past twenty years, we propose some statistical models to predict the frequency but also the intensity of these droughts, for insurers, showing that climate change will have probably major economic consequences on this risk. But even if we use more advanced models than standard regression-type models (here random forests to capture non linearity and cross effects), it is still difficult to predict the economic cost of subsidence claims, even if all geophysical and climatic information is available.

Global well-posedness for Deconvolution Magnetohydrodynamics models with Fractional regularization

In this paper, we consider two Approximate Deconvolution Magnetohydrodynamics models which are related to Large Eddy Simulation. We first study existence and uniqueness of solutions in the double viscous case. Then, we study existence and uniqueness of solutions of the Approximate Deconvolution MHD model with magnetic diffusivity, but without kinematic viscosity. In each case, we give the optimal value of regularizations where we can prove global existence and uniqueness of the solutions. The second model includes the Approximate Deconvolution Euler Model as a particular case. Finally, an asymptotic stability result is shown in the double viscous case with weaker condition on the regularization parameter.

Theory for the Rotational Deconvolution model of Turbulence with Fractional regularization

We introduce a new regularization of the rotational Navier-Stokes equations that we call the Rotational Approximate Deconvolution Model (RADM). We generalize the deconvolution type model, studied by Berselli and Lewandowski [5], to the RADM model with fractional regularization where the convergence of the solution is studied with weaker conditions on the parameter regularization.

Analysis of the Leray-α model with Navier slip boundary condition

In this paper, we establish the existence and the regularity of a unique weak solution to turbulent flows in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb R^3$ governed by the so-called Leray-α model. We consider the Navier slip boundary conditions for the velocity. Furthermore, we show that, when the filter coefficient α tends to zero, the weak solution constructed converges to a suitable weak solution to the incompressible Navier Stokes equations subject to the Navier boundary condition. Similarly, if λ tends to 1- we recover a solution to the Leray-α model with the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Large Eddy Simulation for Turbulent Flows with Critical Regularization

In this paper, we establish the existence of a unique "regular" weak solution to the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) models of turbulence with critical regularization. We first consider the critical LES for the Navier-Stokes equations and we show that its solution converges to a solution of the Navier-Stokes equations as the averaging radii converge to zero. Then we extend the study to the critical LES for Magnetohydrodynamics equations.

Mathematical results for some $\displaystyleα$ models of turbulence with critical and subcritical regularizations

In this paper, we establish the existence of a unique "regular" weak solution to turbulent flows governed by a general family of $α$ models with critical regularizations. In particular this family contains the simplified Bardina model and the modified Leray-$α$ model. When the regularizations are subcritical, we prove the existence of weak solutions and we establish an upper bound on the Hausdorff dimension of the time singular set of those weak solutions. The result is an interpolation between the bound proved by Scheffer for the Navier-Stokes equations and the regularity result in the critical case.

On a critical Leray$-α$ model of turbulence

This paper aims to study a family of Leray-$α$ models with periodic bounbary conditions. These models are good approximations for the Navier-Stokes equations. We focus our attention on the critical value of regularization "$θ$" that garantees the global well-posedness for these models. We conjecture that $θ= 1/4$ is the critical value to obtain such results. When alpha goes to zero, we prove that the Leray-$α$ solution, with critical regularization, gives rise to a suitable solution to the Navier-Stokes equations. We also introduce an interpolating deconvolution operator that depends on "$θ$". Then we extend our results of existence, uniqueness and convergence to a family of regularized magnetohydrodynamics equations.

Singularity \& Regularity Issues for Simplified Models of Turbulence

We consider a family of Leray-$α$ models with periodic boundary conditions in three space dimensions. Such models are a regularization, with respect to a parameter $θ$, of the Navier-Stokes equations. In particular, they share with the original equation (NS) the property of existence of global weak solutions. We establish an upper bound on the Hausdorff dimension of the time singular set of those weak solutions when $θ$ is subcritical. The result is an interpolation between the bound proved by Scheffer for the Navier-Stokes equations and the regularity result proved in \cite{A01}.
