Characterizing the $γ$-Ray Variability of Active Galactic Nuclei with Stochastic Process Method

The $γ$-ray astronomy in time domain has been by now progressed further as the variabilities of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) on different timescales have been reported a lot. We study the $γ$-ray variabilities of 23 jetted AGNs through applying a stochastic process method to the ~12.7 yr long-term light curve (LC) obtained by Fermi-Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT). In this method, the stochastically driven damped simple harmonic oscillator (SHO) and the damped random walk (DRW) models are used to model the long-term LCs. Our results show that the long-term variabilities of 23 AGNs can be characterized well by both SHO and DRW models. However, the SHO model is restricted in the over-damped mode and the parameters are poorly constrained. The SHO power spectral densities (PSDs) are same as the typical DRW PSD. In the plot of the rest-frame timescale that corresponds to the broken frequency in the PSD versus black hole mass, the intrinsic $γ$-ray characteristic timescales of 23 AGNs occupy almost the same space with the optical variability timescales obtained from the accretion disk emission. This suggests a connection between the jet and the accretion disk. Same as the optical variability of AGN accretion disk, the $γ$-ray timescale is also consistent with the thermal timescale caused by the thermal instability in the standard accretion disk of AGN.

Incrementally Stochastic and Accelerated Gradient Information mixed Optimization for Manipulator Motion Planning

This paper introduces a novel motion planner, incrementally stochastic and accelerated gradient information mixed optimization (iSAGO), for robotic manipulators in a narrow workspace. Primarily, we propose the overall scheme of iSAGO informed by the mixed momenta for an efficient constrained optimization based on the penalty method. In the stochastic part, we generate the adaptive stochastic momenta via the random selection of sub-functionals based on the adaptive momentum (Adam) method to solve the body-obstacle stuck case. Due to the slow convergence of the stochastic part, we integrate the accelerated gradient descent (AGD) to improve the planning efficiency. Moreover, we adopt the Bayesian tree inference (BTI) to transform the whole trajectory optimization (SAGO) into an incremental sub-trajectory optimization (iSAGO), which improves the computation efficiency and success rate further. Finally, we tune the key parameters and benchmark iSAGO against the other 5 planners on LBR-iiwa in a bookshelf and AUBO-i5 on a storage shelf. The result shows the highest success rate and moderate solving efficiency of iSAGO.

Quasi-periodic behaviour in the $γ$-ray light curve of the blazar PKS 0405-385

We analyze the quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) of the historical light curve of FSRQs PKS 0405-385 detected by the Fermi LAT from August 2008 to November 2021. To identify and determine the QPO signal of PKS 0405-385 in the $γ$-ray light curve, we use four time series analysis techniques based on frequency and time domains, i.e., the Lomb-Scargle periodogram (LSP), the weighted wavelet z-transform (WWZ), the REDFIT and the epoch folding. The results show that PKS 0405-385 has a quasi-periodic behavior of $\sim$2.8 yr with the significance of $\sim$4.3$σ$ in Fermi long-term monitoring. Remarkably, we also performed QPO analysis in the G-band light curve observed from October 2014 to October 2021 using LSP and WWZ technology, and the results ($\sim$4$σ$ of significance) are consistent with the periodic detection in $γ$-ray. This may imply that the optical emission is radiated by an electron population same as the \gr\ emission. In discussing the possible mechanism of quasi-periodic behavior, either the helical motion within a jet or the supermassive black hole binary system provides a viable explanation for the QPO of 2.8 yr, and the relevant parameters have been estimated.
