Recently, the authors of ref.[1], reported dynamics distortion and polaronic effects in the paramagnetic state of $La_{0.8}Ba_{0.2}Mn_{1-x}Al_xO_3$ manganites. In this comment we want to complete the phase diagram(Fig3[1]) and point out of occurring spin-glass state in this manganite which is not intended for x=0.15 doping.
Silver-doped ZnO nanoparticles were successfully fabricated at $400\,^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ via a simple and rapid method based on short time solid state milling and calcination of precursor powders. The effect of Ag dilute doping on the structural, optical, and photocatalytic properties of ZnO nanoparticles was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis spectrophotometer and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy.~X-ray analysis revealed that Ag doped ZnO solidified in hexagonal wurtzite structure.~ The intensity of deep level emission was reduced with increasing silver doping in PL measurement.~The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurement predicted that Ag was mainly in the metallic state and ZnO was in the wurtzite structure.~ This metallic state accompanied by unique zinc oxide properties decolorized the methyl violet, efficiently.~ The first-principles calculation represented Ag deep level in ZnO with an n-type behavior, while in ZnO structure with grain boundary p-type nature via shallow states is dominant same as powder samples as studied in this present work. It was suggested that these Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles may have good applications in optoelectronics, spintronics and wastewater treatment.
In this paper Al doped ZnO (AZO) thin films with 0, 3, 6 and 12 at. % Al concentration were prepared by sol-gel method on glass substrates. The deposited films were annealed at different temperatures of 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 °C for 1 h in air. X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed wurtzite crystalline structure for the films annealed above 400 °C. The films were subsequently irradiated by beams of excimer (KrF, λ=248 nm) laser. The evolution of crystal structure, surface morphology and optical properties were studied using XRD, filed emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and UV-Vis spectrophotometer, respectively. Real-time measurement of electrical conductivity during laser irradiation showed a transient or persistent photoconductivity effect. The effect of laser energy on this photoconductivity was also investigated. Based on the observed photoluminescence (PL) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), the observed photoconductivity effect was described.
In transition metal doped ZnO, the energy position of dopant 3$d$ states relative to host conduction and valence bands is crucial in determining the possibilty of long range ferromagnetism. Density functional theory based estimates of the energy position of Co-3$d$ states in Co doped ZnO differ substantially depending upon the choice of exchange-correlation functional. In this work we investigate many-body $GW$ corrections on top of DFT$+U$ and hybrid-DFT groundstates to provide a theoretical benchmark for the quasiparticle energies in wurtzite ZnO:Co. Both single shot $G_0W_0$ as well as partially self-consistent $GW_0$ wherein the wavefunctions are held fixed at the DFT level but the eigenvalues in G are iterated, are considered. The predicted energy position of the minority spin Co-$t_2$ states is 3.0-3.6 eV above the ZnO conduction band minimum which is closer to hybrid-DFT based estimates.
Mechanical alloying (MA) has been used to fabricate the Co2FeAl Heusler alloy with a nanocrystalline structure. The formation mechanism of the alloy has been investigated. Rietveld analysis showed that all samples that were milled for more than 15 hours had an L21 structure with a space group of Fm3m. The crystallite size and internal strain of the samples were calculated using the Williamson-Hall equation. With mechanical alloying of up to 20 hours the crystallite size of Co2FeAl increased, after which the crystallite size started to decrease. In contrast, internal strain first decreased during the process and then increased with the increase of milling time. The powder obtained after 20 hours of MA was split into three parts and separately annealed at 300, 500 and 700 oC for 5 hours. A considerable increase was observed in the hardness value of powder particles with the increase of annealing temperature up to 500 oC. However, the hardness value of the sample annealed at 700 oC decreased. It seems that this feature is related to parameters such as increase of crystallite size, enhancement of lattice ordering, change in density of defects and impurities and nonstoichiometric effects.
The magnetocaloric effect in alternating magnetic fields has been investigated in Pr1-xAgxMnO3 manganites with x=0.05-0.25. The stepwise reversal of the sign of the magnetocaloric effect has been revealed in a weakly doped sample (x=0.05) at low temperatures (~80 K). This reversal is attributed to the coexistence of the ferromagnetic and canted antiferromagnetic phases with different critical temperatures.
The temperature dependence of ac susceptibility of YBCO thin film was measured as a function of frequency and ac field amplitude in a field perpendicular to the film plane. We show that all measured ac susceptibility curves can be caled into a single curve using the peak temperature (Tp) of its imaginary part as the scaling parameter. The frequency effect on ac susceptibility was also measured. As the frequency increases,(Tp)shifts to higher temperature.This effect can be interpreted in terms of flux creep. The temperature T,and field,Hac, dependence of the activation energy obtained from the Arrhenius plot for the frequency(f)and(Tp),can be described as U(Hac,T)=Uo(1-T/Tc)Hac^(-0.18).
A systematic study of the weak- link behavior for YBa2Cu3O7-d polycrystalline samples has been done using the electrical resistivity and AC susceptibility techniques.The experiments were performed with two samples of similar grain, a sample of well-coupled grains, and a deoxygenated sample in such a way that the oxygen mostly come from the intergrain region. Analysis of the temperature dependence of the AC susceptibility near the transition temperature (Tc) has been done employing Bean critical state model. The observed variation of intergranular critical current densities(Jc)with temperature indicates that the weak links are changed from superconductor- normal metal-superconductor(SNS) for well-coupled sample to superconductor-insulator- normal metal-superconductor(SINS) type of junctions for the deoxygenated sample.These results are interpreted in terms of oxygen depletion from grain boundaries, which in turn decreases the intergranular Josephson coupling energy with a consequent decrease ofpinning of the intergranular vortices.
