Quasibound states of scalar fields in the consistent 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-(Anti-)de Sitter gravity

We examine the interaction between massless scalar fields and the gravitational field generated by a black hole solution that was recently obtained in the consistent well-defined 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a cosmological constant. In order to do this, we calculate quasibound state frequencies of scalar fields for the spherically symmetric black hole in the consistent 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-de Sitter and Anti-de Sitter theories. The expression for the quasibound states is obtained by using the polynomial condition associated to the Heun functions, and their values are overdamped. We also demonstrate the stability of the systems.

Slowly-rotating curved acoustic black holes: Quasinormal modes, Hawking-Unruh radiation and quasibound states

Astrophysical black holes are generally surrounded by accretion disks, galactic matter and the omnipresent cosmic microwave background radiation, thus allowing for the concurrent propagation of both gravitational and sound waves. Recently, acoustic black holes were embedded in Schwarzschild spacetime allowing for the coexistence of event and acoustic horizons. Here, we obtain a class of perturbative solutions to the field equations of the relativistic Gross-Pitaevskii and Yang-Mills theories, which describe sound waves propagating on a curved slowly-rotating acoustic black hole, akin to Lense-Thirring spacetime. We investigate the quasinormal mode frequencies, Hawking-Unruh radiation, and quasibound states. Our novel metric mimics the gravitational field of astrophysical compact objects in the limiting case of slow rotation, and therefore could, in principle, shed more light into the underlying classical and quantum physics of black holes through analog acoustic probes.

Some aspects of the five-dimensional Lovelock black hole spacetime: strong homotopy retract, perihelion precession and quasistationary levels

In this work we explore some mathematical physics aspects of the spherically symmetric Lovelock black hole in high dimensions. Intended for this aim, we thoroughly consider the metric corresponding to the five-dimensional Lovelock black hole spacetime. We construct the strong retractions by the geodesic equations on the background under consideration. As a result, from the topological point of view, we construct the theory of strong homotopy retract, which will allow us, in principle, to better understand some of its suitable applications on astrophysics and cosmology, in particular, in the analysis of the spacetime singularities. We find the solutions of the equation of motion for both radial and angular coordinates, and then we describe the outer ("exterior") and lower ("interior") apparent horizons. Indeed, the outer apparent horizon is the last surface from which the light waves could still escape from the black hole. Thus, it is meaningful to analyze some physical phenomena related to quantum particles propagating outside the exterior apparent horizon, in particular, we discuss the quasistationary levels of scalar fields and their radial wave functions, which are given in terms of the general Heun functions. We also calculate the perihelion precession in this background.

On the Schwarzschild-Anti-de Sitter black hole with an f(R) global monopole

In this work, we follow the recently revisited f(R) theory of gravity for studying the interaction between quantum scalar particles and the gravitational field of a generalized black hole with an f(R) global monopole. This background has a term playing the role of an effective cosmological constant, which permits us to call it as Schwarzschild-Anti-de Sitter (SAdS) black hole with an f(R) global monopole. We examine the separability of the Klein-Gordon equation with a non-minimal coupling and then we discuss both the massless and massive cases for a conformal coupling. We investigate some physical phenomena related to the asymptotic behavior of the radial function, namely, the black hole radiation, the quasibound states, and the wave eigenfunctions.

Class of solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with ordering parameter

In this letter, we discuss the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with an ordering parameter in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. The solutions when the universe was very small and at the end of the expansion are obtained in terms of Bessel and Heun functions, respectively. We also obtain a boundary condition which should be satisfied by the ordering parameter, namely, $0 \leq p \leq 2$. We investigate the minimum value of the scale factor with respect to the maximum value of the probability density.

Exact solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with ordering term in a dark energy scenario

We investigate the quantum evolution of the universe in the presence of two types of dark energies. First, we consider the phantom class ($ω<-1$) which would be responsible for a super-accelerated cosmic expansion, and then we apply the procedure to an ordinary $Λ>0$ vacuum ($ω=-1$). This is done by analytically solving the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with ordering term (WdW) in the cosmology of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker. In this paper, we find exact solutions in the scale factor $a$ and the ordering parameter $q$. For $q=1$ it is shown that the universe has a high probability of evolving from a big bang singularity. On the other hand, for $q = 0$ the solution indicates that an initial singularity is unlikely. Instead, the universe has maximal probability of starting with a finite well-defined size which we compute explicitly at primordial times. We also study the time evolution of the scale factor by means of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation and show that an ultimate big rip singularity emerges explicitly from our solutions. The phantom scenario thus predicts a dramatic end in which the universe would reach an infinite scale factor in a finite cosmological time as pointed by Caldwell et al. in a classical setup. Finally, we solve the WdW equation with ordinary constant dark energy and show that in this case the universe does not rip apart in a finite era.

Scalar fields in a five-dimensional Lovelock black hole spacetime

We study the interaction between massive scalar fields and the gravitational field produced by a higher dimensional Schwarzschild solution in a string cloud model. Exact analytical solutions of both angular and radial parts of the Klein--Gordon equation are obtained in terms of the three-dimensional spherical harmonics and general Heun functions, respectively. From these solutions, we examine the interesting physical phenomena related to the Hawking radiation and resonant frequencies.

Class of solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe

We show that the solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in a homogeneous and isotropic universe are given by triconfluent Heun functions for the spatially closed, flat, and open geometries of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe filled with different forms of energy. In a matter-dominated universe, we find the polynomial solution and the energy density spectrum. In the cases of radiation-dominated and vacuum universes, there are no polynomial solutions as shown.

Confluent Heun functions and the physics of black holes: resonant frequencies, Hawking radiation and scattering of scalar waves

We apply the confluent Heun functions to study the resonant frequencies (quasispectrum), the Hawking radiation and the scattering process of scalar waves, in a class of spacetimes, namely, the ones generated by a Kerr-Newman-Kasuya spacetime (dyon black hole) and a Reissner-Nordström black hole surrounded by a magnetic field (Ernst spacetime). In both spacetimes, the solutions for the angular and radial parts of the corresponding Klein-Gordon equations are obtained exactly, for massive and massless fields, respectively. The special cases of Kerr and Schwarzschild black holes are analyzed and the solutions obtained, as well as in the case of a Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by a magnetic field. In all these special situations, the resonant frequencies, Hawking radiation and scattering are studied.

In all these special situations, the resonant frequencies, Hawking radiation and scattering are studied.

Variations in the fine structure constant constraining gravity theories

In this paper, we investigate how the fine structure constant, $α$, locally varies in the presence of a static and spherically symmetric gravitational source. The procedure consists in calculating the solution and the energy eigenvalues of a massive scalar field around that source, considering the weak-field regimen. From this result, we obtain expressions for an spatially variable fine structure constant by considering suitable modifications in the involved parameters admitting some scenarios of semi-classical and quantum gravities. Constraints on free parameters of the approached theories are calculated from astrophysical observations of the emission spectra of a white dwarf. Such constraints are finally compared with those ones obtained in the literature.

Analytic solutions in the dyon black hole with a cosmic string: scalar fields, Hawking radiation and energy flux

Charged massive scalar fields are considered in the gravitational and electromagnetic field produced by a dyonic black hole with a cosmic string along its axis of symmetry. Exact solutions of both angular and radial parts of the covariant Klein-Gordon equation in this background are obtained, and are given in terms of the confluent Heun functions. The role of the presence of the cosmic string in these solutions is showed up. From the radial solution, we obtain the exact wave solutions near the exterior horizon of the black hole, and discuss the Hawking radiation spectrum and the energy flux.

Quantum Newtonian cosmology and the biconfluent Heun functions

We obtain the exact solution of the Schrödinger equation for a particle (galaxy) moving in a Newtonian universe with a cosmological constant, which is given in terms of the biconfluent Heun functions. The first six Heun polynomials of the biconfluent function are written explicitly. The energy spectrum which resembles the one corresponding to the isotropic harmonic oscillator is also obtained. The wave functions as well as the energy levels codify the role played by the cosmological constant.

Scalar fields in the Lense-Thirring background with a cosmic string and Hawking radiation

We analyze the influence of the gravitational field produced by a slowly rotating black hole with a cosmic string along the axis of symmetry on a massive scalar field. Exact solutions of both angular and radial parts of the Klein-Gordon equation in this spacetime are obtained, and are given in terms of the confluent Heun functions. We emphasize the role of the presence of the cosmic string in these solutions. We also investigate the solutions in regions near and far from the event horizon. From the radial solution, we obtain the exact wave solutions near the exterior horizon of the black hole, and discuss the Hawking radiation of massive scalar particles.

This work considers the influence of the gravitational field produced by a charged and rotating black hole (Kerr-Newman spacetime) on a charged massive scalar field. We obtain exact solutions of both angular and radial parts of the Klein-Gordon equation in this spacetime, which are given in terms of the confluent Heun functions. From the radial solution, we obtain the exact wave solutions near the exterior horizon of the black hole, and discuss the Hawking radiation of charged massive scalar particles.

The Klein-Gordon equation in the spacetime of a charged and rotating black hole

This work deals with the influence of the gravitational field produced by a charged and rotating black hole (Kerr-Newman spacetime) on massive scalar fields. We obtain an exact solution of the Klein-Gordon equation in this spacetime, which is given in terms of the confluent Heun functions. In the particular case corresponding to an extreme Kerr-Newman black hole the solution is given by the double confluent Heun functions. We also investigate the solutions in regions near the event horizon and far from the black hole.
