Nuclear medium effects in the deep inelastic $ν_τ/\barν_τ-^{40}Ar$ scattering at DUNE energies

The nuclear medium effects are studied in the $ν_τ/\barν_τ$ interactions from nuclei in the deep inelastic scattering (DIS) region and applied to the $^{40}Ar$ nucleus to obtain the scattering cross sections in the energy region of the proposed DUNE experiment. The free nucleon structure functions ($F_{iN}(x,Q^2);~(i=1-5)$) have been calculated at the next-to-leading order (NLO) using Martin-Motylinski-Harland Lang-Thorne 2014 as well as The Coordinated Theoretical-Experimental Project on QCD parameterizations for parton distribution functions (PDFs) and including the effect of perturbative and nonperturbative QCD corrections \cite{Ansari:2020xne}. These free nucleon structure functions are then convoluted with the nucleon spectral function in the nucleus to obtain the nuclear structure functions ($F_{iA}(x,Q^2);~(i=1-5)$). The nucleon spectral function takes into account the Fermi motion and the binding energy of the nucleons as well as the nucleon correlations within the nucleus. These nuclear structure functions are then used to calculate the deep inelastic scattering cross sections. Moreover, the contribution of $π$ and $ρ$ mesons as well as the corrections due to the shadowing and antishadowing effects in the relevant kinematic region of the Bjorken variable $x$ are also included. The numerical results for the cross sections have been presented and compared with the results obtained in the phenomenological approach using nuclear structure functions from nCTEQnu.

Nonperturbative and higher order perturbative effects in deep inelastic $ν_τ/\barν_τ-$nucleon scattering

The effect of nonperturbative and higher order perturbative corrections to all the free nucleon structure functions ($F_{iN}(x,Q^2); i=1-5$) in the DIS of $ν_τ/{\barν}_τ$ on nucleon is studied. The target mass correction (TMC) and higher twist (HT) effects are incorporated following the works of Kretzer et al. and Dasgupta et al., respectively. The evaluation of the nucleon structure functions has been performed by using the MMHT 2014 parameterization of the parton distribution functions (PDFs). The calculations have been performed at the next-to-leading(NLO) order. These nucleon structure functions (SF) are used to calculate the DIS cross section by further including the kinematical corrections due to $τ$-lepton mass. Due to the inclusion of lepton mass two additional structure functions $F_{4N}(x,Q^2)$ and $F_{5N}(x,Q^2)$ become non-negligible. The results for the nucleon structure functions, differential and total scattering cross sections are presented. The various effects considered in this work are effective in the different regions of $x$ and $Q^2$, and quite important in the energy region of $E_{ν_τ/{\barν}_τ} < 15$ GeV. A comparative study of our results with the existing results in the literature for the cross sections is made in the energy region of interest for the DUNE, SHiP, DsTau and HyperK experiments proposed to be done in the near future.

Weak structure functions in $ν_l-N$ and $ν_l-A$ scattering with nonperturbative and higher order perturbative QCD effects

We study the effect of various perturbative and nonperturbative QCD corrections on the free nucleon structure functions ($F_{iN}^{WI}(x,Q^2); ~i=1-3$) and their implications in the determination of nuclear structure functions. The evaluation of the nucleon structure functions has been performed by using the MMHT 2014 PDFs parameterization, and the TMC and HT effects are incorporated following the works of Schienbein et al. and Dasgupta et al., respectively. These nucleon structure functions are taken as input in the determination of nuclear structure functions. The numerical calculations for the $ν_l/\barν_l-A$ DIS process have been performed by incorporating the nuclear medium effects like Fermi motion, binding energy, nucleon correlations, mesonic contributions, shadowing and antishadowing in several nuclear targets such as carbon, polystyrene scintillator, iron and lead which are being used in MINERvA, and in argon nucleus which is relevant for the ArgoNeuT and DUNE experiments. The differential scattering cross sections $\frac{d^2σ_A^{WI}}{dx dy}$ and $(\frac{dσ_A^{WI}}{dx}/\frac{dσ_{CH}^{WI}}{dx})$ have also been studied in the kinematic region of MINERvA experiment. The theoretical results are compared with the recent experimental data of MINERvA and the earlier data of NuTeV, CCFR, CDHSW and CHORUS collaborations. Moreover, a comparative analysis of the present results for the ratio $(\frac{dσ_A^{WI}}{dx}/\frac{dσ_{CH}^{WI}}{dx})$, and the results from the MC generator GENIE and other phenomenological models of Bodek and Yang, and Cloet et al., has been performed in the context of MINERvA experiment. The predictions have also been made for $\barν_l-A$ cross section relevant for MINERvA experiment.

Effects of Nuclear Medium on the Sum Rules in Electron and Neutrino Scattering

In this work, we study the influence of nuclear medium effects on various parton model sum rules in nuclei and compare the results with the free nucleon case. We have used relativistic nucleon spectral function to take into account Fermi motion, binding and nucleon correlations. The pion and rho meson cloud contributions have been incorporated in a microscopic model. The effect of shadowing has also been considered.

Electromagnetic and Weak Nuclear Structure Functions $F_{1,2}(x,Q^2)$ in the Intermediate Region of $Q^2$

We have studied nuclear structure functions $F_{1A}(x,Q^2)$ and $F_{2A}(x,Q^2)$ for electromagnetic and weak processes in the region of $1 GeV^2 < Q^2 <8 GeV^2$. The nuclear medium effects arising due to Fermi motion, binding energy, nucleon correlations, mesonic contributions and shadowing effects are taken into account using a many body field theoretical approach. The calculations are performed in a local density approximation using a relativistic nucleon spectral function. The results are compared with the available experimental data. Implications of nuclear medium effects on the validity of Callan-Gross relation are also discussed.

Medium effects in the deep-inelastic charged lepton/neutrino-A scattering

In this work, we have discussed the recent developments that have taken place to understand the differences in the weak $F_{2A}^{Weak} (x,Q^2)$ and electromagnetic $F_{2A}^{EM} (x,Q^2)$ nuclear structure functions. Also we present the results of our work on nuclear medium effects on $F_{2A}^{Weak} (x,Q^2)$ and $F_{2A}^{EM} (x,Q^2)$ for a wide range of $x$ and $Q^2$. These results have been obtained using a microscopic nuclear model, where to incorporate nuclear medium effects, Fermi motion, binding energy, nucleon correlations, mesonic contributions from pion and rho mesons and shadowing effects are considered. The calculations are performed in local density approximation using relativistic nucleon spectral function. We have also compared the theoretical results with the recent experimental data on electromagnetic and weak structure functions. Furthermore, we have studied the nuclear medium effects in Drell-Yan(DY) process and present the results for differential cross section, and the results are compared with the data of E772 experiment.

Nuclear medium effects in $F_{2A}^{EM}(x,Q^2)$ and $F_{2A}^{Weak}(x,Q^2)$ structure functions

Recent phenomenological analysis of experimental data on DIS processes induced by charged leptons and neutrinos/antineutrinos beams on nuclear targets by CTEQ collaboration has confirmed the observation of CCFR and NuTeV collaborations, that weak structure function $F_{2A}^{Weak} (x,Q^2)$ is different from electromagnetic structure function $F_{2A}^{EM} (x,Q^2)$ in a nucleus like iron, specially in the region of low $x$ and $Q^2$. In view of this observation we have made a study of nuclear medium effects on $F_{2A}^{Weak} (x,Q^2)$ and $F_{2A}^{EM} (x,Q^2)$ for a wide range of $x$ and $Q^2$ using a microscopic nuclear model. We have considered Fermi motion, binding energy, nucleon correlations, mesonic contributions from pion and rho mesons and shadowing effects to incorporate nuclear medium effects. The calculations are performed in a local density approximation using a relativistic nucleon spectral function which includes nucleon correlations. The numerical results in the case of iron nucleus are compared with the experimental data.

Nuclear medium effects in structure functions of nucleon at moderate $Q^2$

Recent experiments performed on inclusive electron scattering from nuclear targets have measured the nucleon electromagnetic structure functions $F_1(x,Q^2)$, $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and $F_L(x,Q^2)$ in $^{12}C$, $^{27}Al$, $^{56}Fe$ and $^{64}Cu$ nuclei. The measurements have been done in the energy region of $1 GeV^2 < W^2 < 4 GeV^2$ and $Q^2$ region of $0.5 GeV^2 < Q^2 < 4.5 GeV^2$. We have calculated nuclear medium effects in these structure functions arising due to the Fermi motion, binding energy, nucleon correlations, mesonic contributions from pion and rho mesons and shadowing effects. The calculations are performed in a local density approximation using relativistic nucleon spectral function which include nucleon correlations. The numerical results are compared with the recent experimental data from JLab and also with some earlier experiments.

Parity violating asymmetry with nuclear medium effects in deep inelastic $\vec e$ scattering

Recently at JLab using polarised electron beam on unpolarised deuteron target measurements have been performed for the parity violating asymmetry($A_{PV}$) and there are future plans to measure this asymmetry using various nuclear targets. In this paper, we study $A_{PV}$ in nuclear targets like $^{12}C$, $^{56}Fe$ and $^{208}Pb$, in a local density approximation using spectral function which takes into account Fermi motion, binding energy correction and nucleon correlations. Furthermore, the pion and rho cloud contributions have also been taken into account. The present model has been used earlier to study medium effects in electromagnetic as well as weak interaction induced processes in the DIS region.

Nuclear medium effects in Drell-Yan process

We study nuclear medium effects in Drell-Yan processes at small target x using quark parton distribution functions and nucleon structure functions for a bound nucleon calculated in a microscopic nuclear model which takes into account the effect of Fermi motion, nuclear binding and nucleon correlations through a relativistic spectral function. The contributions of $π$ and $ρ$ mesons, target mass corrections and nuclear shadowing are also included. The results are compared with the theoretical and experimental results. The model is able to successfully explain the low target x results of E772 and E866 Drell-Yan experiments and is applicable to the forthcoming experimental analysis of E906 Sea Quest experiment at Fermi Lab.

A-dependence of weak nuclear structure functions

Effect of nuclear medium on the weak structure functions $F_2^A(x,Q^2)$ and $F_3^A(x,Q^2)$ have been studied using charged current (anti)neutrino deep inelastic scattering on various nuclear targets. Relativistic nuclear spectral function which incorporate Fermi motion, binding and nucleon correlations are used for the calculations. We also consider the pion and rho meson cloud contributions calculated from a microscopic model for meson-nucleus self-energies. Using these structure functions, $F_i^A/F_i^{proton}$ and $F_i^A/F_i^{deuteron}$(i=2,3, A=$^{12}C$, $^{16}O$, $CH$ and $H_{2}O$) are obtained.

Determination of $sin^{2}θ_W$ using $ν(\barν)$-Nucleus scattering

We have studied nonisoscalarity and medium effects in the extraction of weak mixing angle using Paschos and Wolfenstein relation in the iron nucleus. Paschos and Wolfenstein(PW) relation is valid for an isoscalar target. We have modified the PW relation for nonisoscalar target as well as incorporated the medium effects like Pauli blocking, Fermi motion, nuclear binding energy and pion rho cloud contributions. In our calculations we have used the relativistic nuclear spectral function which includes nucleon correlations. Finally local density approximation is applied to translate the numerical results to the finite nuclei. We have studied the dependence of $sin^{2}θ_W$ on Bjorken variables $x$ and $y$, four momentum transfer square ($Q^2$), energy of the neutrino and antineutrino, and effect of excess neutrons over protons in the nuclear target.

We study the nuclear medium effects and nonisoscalarity correction in the extraction of weak mixing angle sin$^2θ_W$ using Paschos-Wolfenstein (PW) relation. The calculations are performed for the iron nucleus. The results are discussed along with the experimental result inferred by NuTeV collaboration. The nuclear medium effects like Fermi motion, binding, shadowing and antishadowing corrections and pion and rho meson cloud contributions have been taken into account. Calculations have been performed in the local density approximation using a relativistic nuclear spectral function which includes nucleon correlations. These studies may be useful for the ongoing MINER$ν$A experiment as well as for the proposed NuSOnG experiment.

We have modified the PW relation for nonisoscalar nuclear target. We have incorporated the medium effects like Pauli blocking, Fermi motion, nuclear binding energy, nucleon correlations, pion $\&$ rho cloud contributions, and shadowing and antishadowing effects.

$ν(\barν)$-$^{208}$Pb deep inelastic scattering

Nuclear-medium effects in the weak structure functions $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and $F_3(x,Q^2)$ in the charged current neutrino and antineutrino induced deep inelastic reactions in $^{208}$Pb have been studied. The calculations have been performed in a theoretical model using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which incorporate Fermi motion, binding and nucleon correlations. We also consider the pion and rho meson cloud contributions calculated from a microscopic model for meson-nucleus self-energies. Using these structure functions, the results for the differential cross section have been obtained and compared with the CERN Hybrid Oscillation Research apparatUS (CHORUS) data. The results for the ratios $\frac{2F_{i}^{Pb}}{208F_i^D}$, $\frac{4F_{i}^{Pb}}{208F_i^{He}}$, $\frac{12F_{i}^{Pb}}{208F_i^C}$, $\frac{16F_{i}^{Pb}}{208F_i^O}$, and $\frac{56F_{i}^{Pb}}{208F_i^{Fe}}$ (i=2,3) have also been obtained and a few have been compared with some of the phenomenological fits.

We use a theoretical model for the nuclear spectral functions which incorporates the conventional nuclear effects, such as Fermi motion, binding and nucleon correlations. We also consider the pion and rho meson cloud contributions calculated from a microscopic model for meson-nucleus self-energies. The calculations have been performed using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which include nucleon correlations. Our results are compared with the experimental data of NuTeV and CDHSW.

Nuclear medium effects in $ν/\barν$-A DIS

Nuclear medium effects in the weak structure functions $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and $F_3(x,Q^2)$ have been studied for deep inelastic neutrino/antineutrino reactions in iron nucleus by taking into account Fermi motion, binding, pion and rho meson cloud contributions, target mass correction, shadowing and anti-shadowing corrections. The calculations have been performed in a local density approximation using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which include nucleon correlations. Using these structure functions we have obtained the ratio $R_{F2,F3}^A(x,Q^2)= \frac{2F_{2,3}^A(x,Q^2)}{AF_{2,3}^D(x,Q^2)}$, the differential scattering cross section $\frac{1}{E}\frac{d^2σ}{dxdy}$ and the total scattering cross section $σ$. The results of our numerical calculations in $^{56}Fe$ are compared with the experimental results of NuTeV and CDHSW collaborations.
