Spectroscopic observation of the crossover from a classical Duffing oscillator to a Kerr parametric oscillator

We study microwave response of a Josephson parametric oscillator consisting of a superconducting transmission-line resonator with an embedded dc-SQUID. The dc-SQUID allows to control the magnitude of a Kerr nonlinearity over the ranges where it is smaller or larger than the photon loss rate. Spectroscopy measurements reveal the change of the microwave response from a classical Duffing oscillator to a Kerr parametric oscillator in a single device. In the single-photon Kerr regime, we observe parametric oscillations with a well-defined phase of either $0$ or $π$, whose probability can be controlled by an externally injected signal.

Scaling the electrical current switching of exchange bias in fully-epitaxial antiferromagnet/ferromagnet bilayers

While the electrical current manipulation of antiferromagnets (AFMs) has been demonstrated, the extent of the studied AFM materials has been limited with few systematic experiments and a poor understanding. We compare the electrical current switching of the exchange-bias field ($H_{ex}$) in AFM-Mn$_3A$N/ferromagnet-Co$_3$FeN bilayers. An applied pulse current can manipulate $H_{ex}$ with respect to the current density and FM layer magnetization, which shifts exponentially as a function of the current density. We found that the saturation current density and exponential decay constant $τ$ increase with the local moment of AFM Mn atoms. Our results highlight the effect of the AFM local moment to electrical current switching of $H_{ex}$, although it has a near-zero net magnetization, and may provide a facile way to explore the electrical current manipulation of AFM materials.

Search for $η'$ bound nuclei in the $^{12}{\rm C}(γ,p)$ reaction with simultaneous detection of decay products

We measured missing mass spectrum of the $^{12}{\rm C}(γ,p)$ reaction for the first time in coincidence with potential decay products from $η'$ bound nuclei. We tagged an ($η+p$) pair associated with the $η'N\toηN$ process in a nucleus. After applying kinematical selections to reduce backgrounds, no signal events were observed in the bound-state region. An upper limit of the signal cross section in the opening angle $\cosθ^{ηp}_{lab}<-0.9$ was obtained to be 2.2 nb/sr at the 90$\%$ confidence level. It is compared with theoretical cross sections, whose normalization ambiguity is suppressed by measuring a quasifree $η'$ production rate. Our results indicate a small branching fraction of the $η'N\toηN$ process and/or a shallow $η'$-nucleus potential.

Novel Electronic Structures of Ru-Pnictides Ru$Pn$ ($Pn$ = P, As, Sb)

Density-functional-theory-based electronic structure calculations are made to consider the novel electronic states of Ru-pnictides RuP and RuAs where the intriguing phase transitions and superconductivity under doping of Rh have been reported. We find that there appear nearly degenerate flat bands just at the Fermi level in the high-temperature metallic phase of RuP and RuAs; the flat-band states come mainly from the $4d_{xy}$ orbitals of Ru ions and the Rh doping shifts the Fermi level just above the flat bands. The splitting of the flat bands caused by their electronic instability may then be responsible for the observed phase transition to the nonmagnetic insulating phase at low temperatures. We also find that the band structure calculated for RuSb resembles that of the doped RuP and RuAs, which is consistent with experiment where superconductivity occurs in RuSb without Rh doping.
