Ancient solutions for flow by powers of the curvature in R2\mathbb R^2

We construct a new compact convex embedded ancient solution of the κακ^α flow in R2\mathbb R^2, α∈(12,1)α\in(\frac12,1) that lies between two parallel lines. Using this solution we classify all convex ancient solutions of the κακ^α flow in R2\mathbb R^2, for α∈(23,1)α\in(\frac23,1). Moreover, we show that any non-compact convex embedded ancient solution of the κακ^α flow in R2\mathbb R^2, α∈(12,1)α\in(\frac12,1) must be a translating solution.

Fundamental gaps of spherical triangles

We compute Dirichlet eigenvalues and eigenfunctions explicitly for spherical lunes and the spherical triangles which are half the lunes, and show that the fundamental gap goes to infinity when the angle of the lune goes to zero. Then we show the spherical equilateral triangle of diameter π2\fracπ{2} is a strict local minimizer of the fundamental gap on the space of the spherical triangles with diameter π2\fracπ{2}, which partially extends Lu-Rowlett's result from the plane to the sphere.

Maximal volume entropy rigidity for RCD∗(−(N−1),N)\mathsf{RCD}^*(-(N-1),N) spaces

For nn-dimensional Riemannian manifolds MM with Ricci curvature bounded below by −(n−1)-(n-1), the volume entropy is bounded above by n−1n-1. If MM is compact, it is known that the equality holds if and only if MM is hyperbolic. We extend this result to RCD∗(−(N−1),N)\mathsf{RCD}^{\ast}(-(N-1),N) spaces. While the upper bound is straightforward, the rigidity case is quite involved due to the lack of a smooth structure in RCD∗\mathsf{RCD}^{\ast} spaces. As an application we obtain an almost rigidity result which partially recovers a result by Cheng-Rong-Xu for Riemannian manifolds.

Rigidity of minimal submanifolds in space forms

In this paper, we consider the rigidity for an n(≥4)n(\geq 4)-dimensional submanfolds MnM^n with parallel mean curvature in the space form Mcn+p{\mathbb M}^{n+p}_c when the integral Ricci curvature of MM has some bound. We prove that, if c+H2>0c+H^2>0 and ∥Ric−λ∥n/2<ε(n,c,λ,H)\|\mathrm{Ric}_{-}^λ\|_{n/2}< ε(n,c, λ, H) for λλ satisfying n−2n−1(c+H2)<λ≤c+H2 \frac{n-2}{n-1} (c+H^2) < λ\le c+H^2, then MM is the totally umbilical sphere Sn(1c+H2)\mathbb{S}^n(\tfrac{1}{\sqrt{c+H^2}}). Here HH is the norm of the parallel mean curvature of MM, and ε(n,c,λ,H)ε(n,c,λ, H) is a positive constant depending only on n,c,λn, c,λ and HH. This extends some of the earlier work of [15] from pointwise Ricci curvature lower bound to inetgral Ricci curvature lower bound.

On the universal cover and the fundamental group of an RCD∗(K,N)RCD^*(K,N)-space

The main goal of the paper is to prove the existence of the universal cover for RCD∗(K,N)RCD^*(K,N)-spaces. This generalizes earlier work of C. Sormani and the second named author on the existence of universal covers for Ricci limit spaces. As a result, we also obtain several structure results on the (revised) fundamental group of such spaces. These are the first topological results for RCD∗(K,N)RCD^{*}(K,N)-spaces without extra structural-topological assumptions (such as semi-local simple connectedness).

Various Covering Spectra for Complete Metric Spaces

We study various covering spectra for complete noncompact length spaces with universal covers (including Riemannian manifolds and the pointed Gromov Hausdorff limits of Riemannian manifolds with lower bounds on their Ricci curvature). We relate the covering spectrum to the (marked) shift spectrum of such a space. We define the slipping group generated by elements of the fundamental group whose translative lengths are 0. We introduce a rescaled length, the rescaled covering spectrum and the rescaled slipping group. Applying these notions we prove that certain complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative or positive Ricci curvature have finite fundamental groups. Throughout we suggest further problems both for those interested in Riemannian geometry and those interested in metric space theory.

Rigidity of Quasi-Einstein Metrics

We call a metric quasi-Einstein if the mm-Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is a constant multiple of the metric tensor. This is a generalization of Einstein metrics, which contains gradient Ricci solitons and is also closely related to the construction of the warped product Einstein metrics. We study properties of quasi-Einstein metrics and prove several rigidity results. We also give a splitting theorem for some Kähler quasi-Einstein metrics.

The Cut-off Covering Spectrum

We introduce the RR cut-off covering spectrum and the cut-off covering spectrum of a complete length space or Riemannian manifold. The spectra measure the sizes of localized holes in the space and are defined using covering spaces called δδ covers and RR cut-off δδ covers. They are investigated using δδ homotopies which are homotopies via grids whose squares are mapped into balls of radius δδ. On locally compact spaces, we prove that these new spectra are subsets of the closure of the length spectrum. We prove the RR cut-off covering spectrum is almost continuous with respect to the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff convergence of spaces and that the cut-off covering spectrum is also relatively well behaved. This is not true of the covering spectrum defined in our earlier work which was shown to be well behaved on compact spaces. We close by analyzing these spectra on Riemannian manifolds with lower bounds on their sectional and Ricci curvature and their limit spaces.

Comparison Geometry for the Bakry-Emery Ricci Tensor

For Riemannian manifolds with a measure (M,g,e−fdvolg)(M,g, e^{-f} dvol_g) we prove mean curvature and volume comparison results when the ∞\infty-Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is bounded from below and ff is bounded or ∂rf\partial_r f is bounded from below, generalizing the classical ones (i.e. when ff is constant). This leads to extensions of many theorems for Ricci curvature bounded below to the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor. In particular, we give extensions of all of the major comparison theorems when ff is bounded. Simple examples show the bound on ff is necessary for these results.
