Higher order H{ö}lder approximation by solutions of second order elliptic equations

For a given second order elliptic operation $\mathcal{L}$ in a domain $Ω\subset{\mathbb{R}}^\mathbf{N}$, $\mathbf{N}\ $, and a compact set $\mathbf{K}\subsetΩ$, order $\mathbf{N}$-$2$-Ahlfors-David regular, we define the space $\mathcal{H}^{\mathbf{r}+ω}_{\mathcal{L}}(\mathbf{K})$ of continuous functions $f(x),\, x\in\mathbf{K}$, admitting, for any $δ>0$, a local approximation in the $δ$-neighborhood of any point $x\in\mathbf{K}$, with $δ^{\mathbf{r}}ω(δ)$-error estimate, by solutions of the equation $\mathcal{L} u=0$. For such functions, we prove the existence of a global approximation $v_δ$ on $\mathbf{K}$ with the same order of error estimate, by a solution of the same equation in a $δ$-neighborhood of $\mathbf{K}$. A number of properties of these functions $v_δ$ and their derivatives are established.

Commutative algebras of Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space revisited: Spectral theorem approach

For three standard models of commutative algebras generated by Toeplitz operators in the weighted analytic Bergman space on the unit disk, we find their representations as the algebras of bounded functions of certain unbounded self-adjoint operators. We discuss main properties of these representation and, especially, describe relations between properties of the spectral function of Toeplitz operators in the spectral representation and properties of the symbols.

Spectral estimates and asymptotics for integral operators on singular sets

For singular numbers of integral operators of the form $u(x)\mapsto \int F_1(X)K(X,Y,X-Y)F_2(Y)u(Y)μ(dY),$ with measure $μ$ singular with respect to the Lebesgue measure in $\mathbb{R}^\mathbf{N}$, order sharp estimates for the counting function are established. The kernel $K(X,Y,Z)$ is supposed to be smooth in $X,Y$ and in $Z\ne 0$ and to admit an asymptotic expansion in homogeneous functions in $Z$ variable as $Z\to 0.$ The order in estimates is determined by the leading homogeneity order in the kernel and geometric properties of the measure $μ$ and involves integral norms of the weight functions $F_1,F_2$. For the case of the measure $μ$ being the surface measure for a Lipschitz surface of some positive codimension $\mathfrak{d},$ in the self-adjoint case, the asymptotics of eigenvalues of this integral operator is found.

Topological obstructions to the diagonalisation of pseudodifferential systems

Given a matrix pseudodifferential operator on a smooth manifold, one may be interested in diagonalising it by choosing eigenvectors of its principal symbol in a smooth manner. We show that diagonalisation is not always possible, on the whole cotangent bundle or even in a single fibre. We identify global and local topological obstructions to diagonalisation and examine physically meaningful examples demonstrating that all possible scenarios can occur.

Eigenvalue estimates and asymptotics for weighted pseudodifferential operators with singular measures in the critical case

In a domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{\mathbf{N}}$ we consider a selfadjoint operator $\mathbf{T}=\mathfrak{A}^*P\mathfrak{A} ,$ where $\mathfrak{A}$ is a pseudodifferential operator of order $-l=-\mathbf{N}/2$ and $P=Vμ_Σ$ is a singular signed measure in $Ω$ concentrated on a Lipschitz surface $Σ$ of dimension $d<\mathbf{N}$, absolutely continuous with respect to the surface measure $μ_Σ$ on $Σ$. We establish eigenvalue estimates and asymptotics for this operator. It turns out that the order of these estimates and asymptotics is independent of the dimension $d$ of the surface. If there are several surfaces, possibly, of different dimensions, as well as an absolute continuous measure on $Ω$ the corresponding asymptotic coefficients add up.

Toeplitz operators in the Herglotz space

We define and study Toeplitz operators in the space of Herglotz solutions of the Helmholtz equation in $R^d$. As the most traditional definition of Toeplitz operators via Bergman-type projection is not available here, we use an approach based upon the reproducing kernel nature of the Herglotz space and sesquilinear forms, which results in a meaningful theory. For two important patterns of sesquilinear forms we discuss a number of properties, including the uniqueness of determining the symbols from the operator, the finite rank property, the conditions for boundedness and compactness, spectral properties, certain algebraic relations.

Isoperimetric inequalities for Schatten norms of Riesz potentials

In this note we prove that the ball is a maximiser of some Schatten $p$-norms of the Riesz potential operators among all domains of a given measure in $\mathbb R^{d}$. In particular, the result is valid for the polyharmonic Newton potential operator, which is related to a nonlocal boundary value problem for the poly-Laplacian extending the one considered by M. Kac in the case of the Laplacian, so we obtain and isoperimetric inequalities for its eigenvalues as well, namely, analogues of Rayleigh-Faber-Krahn and Hong-Krahn-Szegö inequalities.

Toeplitz operators defined by sesquilinear forms: Fock space case

The classical theory of Toeplitz operators in spaces of analytic functions deals usually with symbols that are bounded measurable functions on the domain in question. A further extension of the theory was made for symbols being unbounded functions, measures, and compactly supported distributions, all of them subject to some restrictions. In the context of a reproducing kernel Hilbert space we propose a certain framework for a `maximally possible' extension of the notion of Toeplitz operators for a `maximally wide' class of `highly singular' symbols. Using the language of sesquilinear forms we describe a certain common pattern for a variety of analytically defined forms which, besides covering all previously considered cases, permits us to introduce a further substantial extension of a class of admissible symbols that generate bounded Toeplitz operators. Although our approach is unified for all reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, for concrete operator consideration in this paper we restrict ourselves to Toeplitz operators acting on the standard Fock (or Segal-Bargmann) space.

The finite rank theorem for Toeplitz operators in the Fock space

We consider Toeplitz operators in the Fock space, under rather general conditions imposed on the symbols. It is proved that if the operator has finite rank and the symbol is a function then the operator and the symbol should be zero. The method of proving is different from the one used previously for finite rank theorems, and it enables one to get rid of the compact support condition for symbols imposed previously.

Spectral estimates for the Schrödinger operators with sparse potentials on graphs

The construction of "sparse potentials", suggested in \cite{RS09} for the lattice $\Z^d,\ d>2$, is extended to a wide class of combinatorial and metric graphs whose global dimension is a number $D>2$. For the Schrödinger operator $-\D-\a V$ on such graphs, with a sparse potential $V$, we study the behavior (as $\a\to\infty$) of the number $N_-(-\D-\a V)$ of negative eigenvalues of $-\D-\a V$. We show that by means of sparse potentials one can realize any prescribed asymptotic behavior of $N_-(-\D-\a V)$ under very mild regularity assumptions. A similar construction works also for the lattice $\Z^2$, where D=2.

On lower eigenvalue estimates for Toeplitz operators with radial symbols in Bergman spaces

We consider Toeplitz operators in different Bergman type spaces, having radial symbols with variable sign. We show that if the symbol has compact support or decays rapidly, the eigenvalues of such operators cannot decay too fast, essentially faster than for a sign-definite symbol with the same kind. On the other hand, if the symbol decays not sufficiently rapidly, the eigenvalues of the corresponding operator may decay faster than for the operator corresponding to the absolute value of the symbol.

On the spectral estimates for Schrödinger type operators. The case of small local dimension

The behavior of the discrete spectrum of the Schrödinger operator $-\D - V$, in quite a general setting, up to a large extent is determined by the behavior of the corresponding heat kernel $P(t;x,y)$ as $t\to 0$ and $t\to\infty$. If this behavior is powerlike, i.e., \[\|P(t;\cdot,\cdot)\|_{L^\infty}=O(t^{-δ/2}),\ t\to 0;\qquad \|P(t;\cdot,\cdot)\|_{L^\infty}=O(t^{-D/2}),\ t\to\infty,\] then it is natural to call the exponents $δ,D$ "{\it the local dimension}" and "{\it the dimension at infinity}" respectively. The character of spectral estimates depends on the relation between these dimensions. In the paper we analyze the case where $δ<D$ that was insufficiently studied before. Our applications concern the combinatorial and the metric graphs.
