Positive Blow-up Solutions for a Linearly Perturbed Boundary Yamabe Problem

We consider the problem of prescribing the scalar and boundary mean curvatures via conformal deformation of the metric on a n−n- dimensional compact Riemannian manifold. We deal with the case of negative scalar curvature KK and boundary mean curvature HH of arbitrary sign which are non-constant and Dn=n(n−1)∣K∣−1/2>1\mathfrak D_n=\sqrt{n(n-1)}{|K|}^{-1/2}>1 at some point of the boundary. It is known that this problem admits a positive mountain pass solution if n=3n=3, while no existence results are known for n≥4n\geq 4. We will consider a perturbation of the geometric problem and show the existence of a positive solution which blows-up at a boundary point which is critical for both prescribed curvatures.

Nondegeneracy of the bubble for the critical p-Laplace equation

We prove the non-degeneracy of the extremals of the Sobolev inequality ∫RN∣∇u∣pdx≥Sp∫RN∣u∣NpN−pdx, u∈D1,p(RN)\int\limits_{\mathbb R^N}|\nabla u|^pdx\ge \mathcal S_p\int\limits_{\mathbb R^N}|u|^{Np\over N-p}dx,\ u\in \mathcal D^{1,p}(\mathbb R^N) when 1<p<N,1<p<N, as solutions of a critical quasilinear equation involving the p−p-Laplacian.

Generalized Schrödinger-Newton system in dimension N≥3N\ge 3: critical case

In this paper we study a system which is equivalent to a nonlocal version of the well known Brezis Nirenberg problem. The difficulties related with the lack of compactness are here emphasized by the nonlocal nature of the critical nonlinear term. We prove existence and nonexistence results of positive solutions when N=3N=3 and existence of solutions in both the resonance and the nonresonance case for higher dimensions.

Large mass boundary condensation patterns in the stationary Keller-Segel system

We consider the boundary value problem −Δu+u=λeu-Δu + u =λe^u in ΩΩ with Neumann boundary condition, where ΩΩ is a bounded smooth domain in R2\mathbb R^2, λ>0.λ>0. This problem is equivalent to the stationary Keller-Segel system from chemotaxis. We establish the existence of a solution uλu_λ which exhibits a sharp boundary layer along the entire boundary ∂Ω\partialΩ as λ→0λ\to 0. These solutions have large mass in the sense that ∫Ωλeuλ∼∣log⁡λ∣. \int_Ωλe^{u_λ} \sim |\logλ|.

Towering phenomena for the Yamabe equation on symmetric manifolds

Let (M,g)(M,g) be a compact smooth connected Riemannian manifold (without boundary) of dimension N≥7N\ge7. Assume MM is symmetric with respect to a point ξ0ξ_0 with non-vanishing Weyl's tensor. We consider the linear perturbation of the Yamabe problem (Pε)−Lgu+εu=uN+2N−2 in (M,g).(P_ε)\qquad-\mathcal L_g u+εu=u^{N+2\over N-2}\ \hbox{in}\ (M,g) . We prove that for any k∈Nk\in \mathbb N, there exists εk>0ε_k>0 such that for all ε∈(0,εk)ε\in (0, ε_k) the problem (Pε)(P_ε) has a symmetric solution uε,u_ε, which looks like the superposition of kk positive bubbles centered at the point ξ0ξ_0 as ε→0ε\to 0. In particular, ξ0ξ_0 is a {\em towering} blow-up point.

Clustering phenomena for linear perturbation of the Yamabe equation

Let (M,g)(M,g) be a non-locally conformally flat compact Riemannian manifold with dimension N≥7.N\ge7. We are interested in finding positive solutions to the linear perturbation of the Yamabe problem −Lgu+εu=uN+2N−2 in (M,g)-\mathcal L_g u+εu=u^{N+2\over N-2}\ \hbox{in}\ (M,g) where the first eigenvalue of the conformal laplacian −Lg-\mathcal L_g is positive and εε is a small positive parameter. We prove that for any point ξ0∈Mξ_0\in M which is non-degenerate and non-vanishing minimum point of the Weyl's tensor and for any integer kk there exists a family of solutions developing kk peaks collapsing at ξ0ξ_0 as εε goes to zero. In particular, ξ0ξ_0 is a non-isolated blow-up point.

Concentration along geodescis for a nonlinear Steklov problem arising in corrosion modelling

We consider the problem of finding pairs (λ;u)(λ; u), with λ>0λ> 0 and uu a harmonic function in a three dimensional torus-like domain, satisfying the nonlinear boundary condition ∂νu=λsinh⁡u\partial_ν u = λ\sinh u on the boundary. This type of boundary condition arises in corrosion modelling (Butler Volmer condition). We prove existence of solutions which concentrate along some geodesics of the boundary as the parameter λλ goes to zero.

Sign-changing blowing-up solutions for the Brezis--Nirenberg problem in dimensions four and five

We consider the Brezis-Nirenberg problem: $$-Δu =λu + |u|^{p-1}u\qquad \mbox{in}\,\, Ω,\quad u=0\,\, \mbox{on}\,\,\ \partialΩ,$$ where ΩΩ is a smooth bounded domain in RN\mathbb R^N, N≥3N\geq 3, p=N+2N−2p=\frac{N+2}{N-2} and λ>0λ>0. In this paper we prove that, if ΩΩ is symmetric and N=4,5N=4,5, there exists a sign-changing solution whose positive part concentrates and blows-up at the center of symmetry of the domain, while the negative part vanishes, as λ→λ1λ\rightarrow λ_1, where λ1=λ1(Ω)λ_1=λ_1(Ω) denotes the first eigenvalue of −Δ-Δ on ΩΩ, with zero Dirichlet boundary condition.

Bubbling solutions for supercritical problems on manifolds

Let (M,g)(M,g) be a n−n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold without boundary and ΓΓ be a non degenerate closed geodesic of (M,g)(M,g). We prove that the supercritical problem −Δgu+hu=un+1n−3±ε, u>0, in (M,g)-Δ_gu+h u=u^{\frac{n+1}{n-3}\pmε},\ u>0,\ \hbox{in}\ (M,g) has a solution that concentrates along ΓΓ as εε goes to zero, provided the function hh and the sectional curvatures along ΓΓ satisfy a suitable condition. A connection with the solution of a class of periodic O.D.E.'s with singularity of attractive or repulsive type is established.

Supercritical problems on manifolds

Let (M,g)(M,g) be a mm-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold without boundary. Assume κ∈C2(M)κ\in C^2(M) is such that −Δg+κ-Δ_g+κ is coercive. We prove the existence of a solution to the supercritical problems −Δgu+κu=up, u>0in (M,g)and−Δgu+κu=λeuin (M,g) -Δ_gu+κu= u^p,\ u>0\quad\hbox{in}\ (M,g)\quad\hbox{and}\quad-Δ_gu+κu=λe^u\quad\hbox{in}\ (M,g) which concentrate s along a (m−1)−(m-1)-dimensional submanifold of MM as p→∞p\to\infty and λ→0λ\to0, respectively, under suitable symmetry assumptions on the manifold MM.
