Disentangling the Regge cut and Regge pole in perturbative QCD

The high-energy limit of gauge-theory amplitudes features both a Regge pole and Regge cuts. We show how to disentangle these, and hence how to determine the Regge trajectory beyond two loops. While the nonplanar part of multiple Reggeon $t$-channel exchange forms a Regge cut, the planar part contributes to the pole along with the single Reggeon. With this, we find that the infrared singularities of the trajectory are given by the cusp anomalous dimension. By matching to recent QCD results, we determine the quark and gluon impact factors to two loops and the Regge trajectory to three loops.

High-energy limit of $2\to 2$ scattering amplitudes at NNLL

The high-energy limit of $2\to 2$ scattering amplitudes offers an excellent setting to explore the universal features of gauge theories. At Leading Logarithmic (LL) accuracy the partonic amplitude is governed by Regge poles in the complex angular momentum plane. Beyond LL, Regge cuts in this plane begin to play an important role. Specifically, the real part of the amplitude at Next-to-Next-to-Leading Logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy presents for the first time both a Regge pole and a Regge cut. Analysing this tower of logarithms and computing it explicitly through four loops we are able to systematically separate between the Regge pole and the Regge cut. The former involves two fundamental parameters, namely the gluon Regge trajectory and impact factors. We explain how to consistently define the impact factors at two loops and the Regge trajectory at three loops. We confirm that the singularities of the trajectory are given by the cusp anomalous dimension. We also show that the Regge-cut contribution at four loop is nonplanar.

Renormalisation of singlet operators to four loops

In QCD the anomalous dimensions of gauge invariant operators of twist 2 play a key role, because they control the scale dependence of the parton distribution functions. Notably, the flavour singlet operators, such as those associated to the gluon distribution, mix under renormalisation with a set of unphysical operators, also known as aliens. Missing this effect leads to wrong results already for the two-loop anomalous dimensions. The correct renormalisation of gluonic operators is an important step towards the computation of the scale evolution of flavour singlet parton distributions, which is now required to 4 loops. Leveraging both the background field method and an enhanced BRST symmetry, we construct the required ghost and alien operator basis up to 4 loops for arbitrary mass dimensions. Furthermore, we extract anomalous dimensions at 4 loops, for the physical operators of mass-dimension 4 and 6, and at 3 loops for mass-dimension 8.

Renormalization of gluonic leading-twist Operators in covariant Gauges

We provide the all-loop structure of gauge-variant operators required for the renormalisation of Green's functions with insertions of twist-two operators in Yang-Mills theory. Using this structure we work out an explicit basis valid up to 4-loop order for an arbitrary compact simple gauge group. To achieve this we employ a generalised gauge symmetry, originally proposed by Dixon and Taylor, which arises after adding to the Yang-Mills Lagrangian also operators proportional to its equation of motion. Promoting this symmetry to a generalised BRST symmetry allows to generate the ghost operator from a single exact operator in the BRST-generalised sense. We show that our construction complies with the theorems by Joglekar and Lee. We further establish the existence of a generalised anti-BRST symmetry which we employ to derive non-trivial relations among the anomalous dimension matrices of ghost and equation-of-motion operators. For the purpose of demonstration we employ the formalism to compute the N=2,4 Mellin moments of the gluonic splitting function up to 4 loops and its N=6 Mellin moment up to 3 loops, where we also take advantage of additional simplifications of the background field formalism.

Scattering amplitudes in the Regge limit and the soft anomalous dimension through four loops

Using rapidity evolution equations we study two-to-two gauge-theory scattering amplitudes in the Regge limit. We carry out explicit computations at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy through four loops and present new results for both infrared-singular and finite contributions to the amplitude. New techniques are devised in order to derive the colour structure stemming from three-Reggeon exchange diagrams in terms of commutators of channel operators, obtaining results that are valid for any gauge group, and apply to scattered particles in any colour representation. We also elucidate the separation between contributions to the Regge cut and Regge pole in the real part of the amplitude to all loop orders. We show that planar contributions due to multiple-Reggeon exchange diagrams can be factorised as a Regge pole along with the single-Reggeon exchange, and when this is done, the singular part of the gluon Regge trajectory is directly determined by the cusp anomalous dimension. We explicitly compute the Regge cut component of the amplitude through four loops and show that it is non-planar. From a different perspective, the new results provide important information on soft singularities in general kinematics beyond the planar limit: by comparing the computed corrections to the general form of the four-loop soft anomalous dimension we derive powerful constraints on its kinematic dependence, opening the way for a bootstrap-based determination.

The Soft Anomalous Dimension at four loops in the Regge Limit

The soft anomalous dimension governs the infrared divergences of scattering amplitudes in general kinematics to all orders in perturbation theory. By comparing the recent Regge-limit results for $2\to2$ scattering (through Next-to-Next-to-Leading Logarithms) in full colour to a general form for the soft anomalous dimension at four loops we derive powerful constraints on its kinematic dependence, opening the way for a bootstrap-based determination.

Two- and three-loop anomalous dimensions of Weinberg's dimension-six CP-odd gluonic operator

We apply a fully automated extension of the $R^*$-operation capable of calculating higher-loop anomalous dimensions of n-point Green's functions of arbitrary, possibly non-renormalisable, local Quantum Field Theories. We focus on the case of the CP-violating Weinberg operator of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory whose anomalous dimension is so far known only at one loop. We calculate the two-loop anomalous dimension in full QCD and the three-loop anomalous dimensions in the limit of pure Yang-Mills theory. We find sizeable two-loop and large three-loop corrections, due to the appearance of a new quartic group invariant. We discuss phenomenological implications for electric dipole moments and future applications of the method.

The Complete $O(α_s^2)$ Non-Singlet Heavy Flavor Corrections to the Structure Functions $g_{1,2}^{ep}(x,Q^2)$, $F_{1,2,L}^{ep}(x,Q^2)$, $F_{1,2,3}^{ν(\barν)}(x,Q^2)$ and the Associated Sum Rules

We calculate analytically the flavor non-singlet $O(α_s^2)$ massive Wilson coefficients for the inclusive neutral current non-singlet structure functions $F_{1,2,L}^{ep}(x,Q^2)$ and $g_{1,2}^{ep}(x,Q^2)$ and charged current non-singlet structure functions $F_{1,2,3}^{ν(\barν)p}(x,Q^2)$, at general virtualities $Q^2$ in the deep-inelastic region. Numerical results are presented. We illustrate the transition from low to large virtualities for these observables, which may be contrasted to basic assumptions made in the so-called variable flavor number scheme. We also derive the corresponding results for the Adler sum rule, the unpolarized and polarized Bjorken sum rules and the Gross-Llewellyn Smith sum rule. There are no logarithmic corrections at large scales $Q^2$ and the effects of the power corrections due to the heavy quark mass are of the size of the known $O(α_s^4)$ corrections in the case of the sum rules. The complete charm and bottom corrections are compared to the approach using asymptotic representations in the region $Q^2 \gg m_{c,b}^2$. We also study the target mass corrections to the above sum rules.

Analyzing high-energy factorization beyond next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy

We provide a complete and detailed study of the high-energy limit of four-parton scattering amplitudes in QCD, giving explicit results at two loops and higher orders, and going beyond next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. Building upon recent results, we use the techniques of infrared factorization to investigate the failure of the simplest form of Regge factorization, starting at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy (NNLL) in ln(s/|t|). We provide detailed accounts and explicit expressions for the terms responsible for this breaking in the case of two-loop and three-loop quark and gluon amplitudes in QCD; in particular, we recover and explain a known non-logarithmic double-pole contribution at two-loops, and we compute all non-factorizing single-logarithmic singular contributions at three loops. Conversely, we use high-energy factorization to show that the hard functions of infrared factorization vanish in d = 4 to all orders in the coupling, up to NLL accuracy in ln(s/|t|). This provides clear evidence for the infrared origin of high-energy logarithms. Finally, we extend earlier studies to t-channel exchanges of color representations beyond the octet, which enables us to give predictions based on the dipole formula for single-pole NLL contributions at three and four loops.

Multiple Gluon Exchange Webs

Webs are weighted sets of Feynman diagrams which build up the logarithms of correlators of Wilson lines, and provide the ingredients for the computation of the soft anomalous dimension. We present a general analysis of multiple gluon exchange webs (MGEWs) in correlators of semi-infinite non-lightlike Wilson lines, as functions of the exponentials of the Minkowski cusp angles, $α_{ij}$, formed between lines $i$ and $j$. We compute a range of webs in this class, connecting up to five Wilson lines through four loops, we give an all-loop result for a special class of diagrams, and we discover a new kind of relation between webs connecting different numbers of Wilson lines, based on taking collinear limits. Our results support recent conjectures, stating that the contribution of any MGEW to the soft anomalous dimension is a sum of products of polylogarithms, each depending on a single cusp angle, and such that their symbol alphabet is restricted to $α_{i j}$ and $1 - α_{i j}^2$. Finally, we construct a simple basis of functions, defined through a one-dimensional integral representation in terms of powers of logarithms, which has all the expected analytic properties. This basis allows us to compactly express the results of all MGEWs computed so far, and we conjecture that it is sufficient for expressing all MGEWs at any loop order.

Beyond Reggeization for two- and three-loop QCD amplitudes

The high-energy factorization of gauge theory scattering amplitudes in terms of universal impact factors and a Reggeized exchange in the $t$-channel, corresponding to a Regge pole in the angular momentum plane, is know to conflict with the structure of soft anomalous dimensions starting at the two-loop level. We explore the implications of this violation of factorization for two- and three-loop QCD amplitudes: first we propose criteria to organize the amplitudes into factorizing and non-factorizing terms, then we test them by recovering a known result for non-logarithmic terms at two loops. Finally we predict the precise value of the leading non-factorizing energy logarithms at three loops, and we uncover a set of all-order identities constraining infrared finite terms in quark and gluon amplitudes.

High-energy QCD amplitudes at two loops and beyond

Recent progress in our understanding of infrared singularities of multi-parton amplitudes has shown that the simplest form of Regge factorization for high-energy gauge-theory amplitudes fails starting at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We provide a framework to organize the calculation of parton amplitudes at leading power in t/s, in terms of factorizing and non-factorizing contributions. This allows us to give explicit expressions for the leading Reggeization-breaking terms in two-loop and three-loop quark and gluon amplitudes in QCD. In particular, using only infrared information, we recover a known non-factorizing, non-logarithmic double-pole contribution at two-loops, and we compute the leading non-factorizing single-logarithmic contributions at three loops.
