A Search for Low-mass Dark Matter via Bremsstrahlung Radiation and the Migdal Effect in SuperCDMS

In this paper, we present a re-analysis of SuperCDMS data using a profile likelihood approach to search for sub-GeV dark matter particles (DM) through two inelastic scattering channels: bremsstrahlung radiation and the Migdal effect. By considering possible inelastic scattering channels, experimental sensitivity can be extended to DM masses that would otherwise be undetectable through the DM-nucleon elastic scattering channel, given the energy threshold of current experiments. We exclude DM masses down to $220~\textrm{MeV}/c^2$ at $2.7 \times 10^{-30}~\textrm{cm}^2$ via the bremsstrahlung channel. The Migdal channel search excludes DM masses down to $30~\textrm{MeV}/c^2$ at $5.0 \times 10^{-30}~\textrm{cm}^2$.

Extending axions searches with a spherical TPC

We present the prospects for detection of KK-axions using a large volume spherical TPC through natural decay to two gammas. The higher excited mass states of this axion model allows to reach densities which could be detectable by this method. We show the capability of this detector to detect 2-prong events coming from rest-mass axion decays and we provide efficiencies obtained under some gas mixtures and pressure conditions. The sensitivity limit of a future experiment with existing detectors geometry has been estimated for the case of zero background limit.

Mini--Review of Dark Matter: 2012

This is the mini-review on Dark Matter in the 2012 edition of the Particle Data Group's Review of Particle Properties. After briefly summarizing the arguments in favor of the existence of Dark Matter, we list possible candidates, ranging in mass from a fraction of an eV (e.g., axions) to many solar masses (e.g., primordial black holes), and discuss ways to detect them. The main emphasis is on Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). A large international effort is being made to detect them directly, or else to detect their annihilation products. We explain why we consider all claims to have established a positive signal for WIMPs in either direct or indirect detection to be premature. We also introduce the concept of a {\it WIMP safe} minimal mass; below this mass, the interpretation of a given direct search experiment depends strongly on the tail of the WIMP velocity distribution and/or on the experimental energy resolution.

Latest results of the direct dark matter search with the EDELWEISS-II experiment

The EDELWEISS-II experiment uses cryogenic heat-and-ionization Germanium detectors in order to detect the rare interactions from WIMP dark matter particles of local halo. New-generation detec- tors with an interleaved electrode geometry were developped and validated, enabling an outstanding gamma-ray and surface interaction rejection. We present here preliminary results of a one-year WIMP search carried out with 10 of such detectors in the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane. A sensitivity to the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross-section of 5x10-8 pb was achieved using a 322 kg.days effective exposure. We also present the current status of the experiment and prospects to improve the present sensitivity by an order of magnitude in the near future.
