Existence and asymptotic behavior of standing waves of the nonlinear Helmholtz equation in the plane

In this paper we study the semilinear elliptic problem $$ -Δu -k^2u=Q|u|^{p-2}u\quad\text{ in }\mathbb{R}^2, $$ where $k>0$, $p\geq 6$ and $Q$ is a bounded function. We prove the existence of real-valued $W^{2,p}$-solutions, both for decaying and for periodic coefficient $Q$. In addition, a nonlinear far-field relation is derived for these solutions.

Multiple standing waves for the nonlinear Helmholtz equation concentrating in the high frequency limit

This paper studies for large frequency number $k>0$ the existence and multiplicity of solutions of the semilinear problem $$ -Δu -k^2 u=Q(x)|u|^{p-2}u\quad\text{ in }\mathbb{R}^N, \quad N\geq 2. $$ The exponent $p$ is subcritical and the coefficient $Q$ is continuous, nonnegative and satisfies the condition $$ \limsup_{|x|\to\infty}Q(x)<\sup_{x\in\mathbb{R}^N}Q(x). $$ In the limit $k\to\infty$, sequences of solutions associated to ground states of a dual equation are shown to concentrate, after rescaling, at global maximum points of the function $Q$.

On the periodic and asymptotically periodic nonlinear Helmholtz equation

In the first part of this paper, the existence of infinitely many $L^p$-standing wave solutions for the nonlinear Helmholtz equation $$ -Δu -λu=Q(x)|u|^{p-2}u\quad\text{ in }\mathbb{R}^N $$ is proven for $N\geq 2$ and $λ>0$, under the assumption that $Q$ be a nonnegative, periodic and bounded function and the exponent $p$ lies in the Helmholtz subcritical range. In a second part, the existence of a nontrivial solution is shown in the case where the coefficient $Q$ is only asymptotically periodic.

Positive solutions to some nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equations via a min-max procedure

The existence of a positive solution to the following fractional semilinear equation is proven, in a situation where a ground state solution may not exist. More precisely, we consider for $0<s<1$ the equation $$ (-Δ)^s u + V(x)u=Q(x)|u|^{p-2}u \quad\text{in }\mathbb{R}^N,\ N\geq 1,$$ where the exponent $p$ is superlinear but subcritical, and $V>0$, $Q\geq 0$ are bounded functions converging to $1$ as $|x|\to\infty$. Using a min-max procedure introduced by Bahri and Li we prove the existence of a positive solution under one-sided asymptotic bounds for $V$ and $Q$.
