Finite symmetries in agent-based epidemic models

We present an algorithm which explores permutation symmetries to describe the time evolution of agent-based epidemic models. The main idea to improve computation times relies on restricting the stochastic process to one sector of the vector space, labeled by a single permutation eigenvalue. In this scheme, the transition matrix reduces to block diagonal form, enhancing computational performance.

Many-body methods in agent-based epidemic models

The susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) agent-based model is usually employed in the investigation of epidemics. The model describes a Markov process for a single communicable disease among susceptible (S) and infected (I) agents. However, the disease spreading forecasting is often restricted to numerical simulations, while analytic formulations lack both general results and perturbative approaches since they are subjected to asymmetric time generators. Here, we discuss perturbation theory, approximations and application of many-body techniques in epidemic models in the framework for squared norm of probability vector $|P(t)| ^2$, in which asymmetric time generators are replaced by their symmetric counterparts.

Gluon Propagators in Linear Covariant Gauge

The implementation of the linear covariant gauge on the lattice faces a conceptual problem: using the standard compact discretization, the gluon field is bounded, while the four-divergence of the gluon field satisfies a Gaussian distribution, i.e. it is unbounded. This can give rise to convergence problems when a numerical implementation is attempted. In order to overcome this problem, one can use different discretizations for the gluon field or consider an SU(N_c) group with sufficiently large N_c. One can also consider small values of the gauge parameter xi and study numerically the limiting case of xi \to 0, i.e. the Landau gauge. These different approaches will be discussed here.

Phase diagram and spectral properties of a new exactly integrable spin one quantum chain

The spectral properties and phase diagram of the exact integrable spin one quantum chain introduced by Alcaraz and Bariev are presented. The model has a U(1) symmetry and its integrability is associated to an unknown R-matrix whose dependence on the spectral parameters is not of difference form. The associated Bethe ansatz equations, that fix the eigenspectra, are distinct from those associated to other known integrable spin models. The model has a free parameter $t_p$. We show that at the special point $t_p=1$ the model gets an extra U(1) symmetry and reduces to the deformed SU(3) Perk-Schultz model at a special value of its anisotropy $q=\exp(i2π/3)$ andin the presence of an external magnetic field. Our analysis is done either by solving the associated Bethe-ansatz equations or by direct diagonalization of thequantum Hamiltonian for small lattice sizes. The phase diagram is calculated by exploring the consequences of conformal invariance on the finite-size corrections of the Hamiltonian eigenspectrum. The model exhibits a critical phase ruled by $c=1$ conformal field theory separated from a massive phase by first-order phase transitions.
