High pressure Raman study of the quantum magnet (C$_4$H$_{12}$N$_2$)Cu$_2$Cl$_6$

Magnetic and lattice excitations in the quantum antiferromagnet (C$_4$H$_{12}$N$_2$)Cu$_2$Cl$_6$ (PHCC) are studied across two pressure-induced phase transition at $P_c=4.3~\mathrm{kbar}$ and $P_1=13.4~\mathrm{kbar}$ using Raman spectroscopy. It is confirmed that neither transition is a result of a structural transformation. Magnetic scattering is detected. It shows a pronounced pressure dependence and undergoes substantial changes at both transitions. The results are in clear contradiction with previous neutron studies, which detected only minor changes of the magnon spectrum at $P_1$. A number of phonons show anomalous frequency shifts at low temperatures. This effect is pressure dependent and for two of the observed phonons dramatically reverses sign at around $P_1$. The anomalous behavior is attributed to strong magnetoelastic coupling in PHCC.

Magnetism and its coexistence with superconductivity in CaK(Fe$_{0.949}$Ni$_{0.051}$)$_4$As$_4$: muon spin rotation/relaxation studies

The magnetic response of CaK(Fe$_{0.949}$Ni$_{0.051}$)$_4$As$_4$ was investigated by means of the muon-spin rotation/relaxation. The long-range commensurate magnetic order sets in below the Néel temperature $T_{\rm N}= 50.0(5)$~K. The density-functional theory calculations have identified three possible muon stopping sites. The experimental data were found to be consistent with only one type of magnetic structure, namely, the long-range magnetic spin-vortex-crystal order with the hedgehog motif within the $ab-$plane and the antiferromagnetic stacking along the $c-$direction. The value of the ordered magnetic moment at $T\approx3$ K was estimated to be $m_{\rm Fe}=0.38(11)$ $μ_{\rm B}$ ($μ_{\rm B}$ is the Bohr magneton). A microscopic coexistence of magnetic and superconducting phases accompanied by a reduction of the magnetic order parameter below the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\rm c}\simeq 9$ K is observed. Comparison with 11, 122, and 1144 families of Fe-based pnictides points to existence of correlation between the reduction of the magnetic order parameter at $T\rightarrow 0$ and the ratio of the transition temperatures $T_{\rm c}/T_{\rm N}$. Such correlations were found to be described by Machida's model for coexistence of itinerant spin-density wave magnetism and superconductivity [Machida, J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 50, 2195 (1981) and Bud'ko et al., Phys. Rev. B 98, 144520 (2018)].

Persistent spin dynamics in the pressurized spin-liquid candidate YbMgGaO$_4$

Single-crystal x-ray diffraction, density-functional band-structure calculations, and muon spin relaxation ($μ$SR) are used to probe pressure evolution of the triangular spin-liquid candidate YbMgGaO$_4$. The rhombohedral crystal structure is retained up to at least 10 GPa and shows a nearly uniform compression along both in-plane and out-of-plane directions, whereas local distortions caused by the random distribution of Mg$^{2+}$ and Ga$^{3+}$ remain mostly unchanged. The $μ$SR data confirm persistent spin dynamics up to 2.6 GPa and down to 250 mK with no change in the muon relaxation rate. Longitudinal-field $μ$SR reveals power-law behavior of the spin-spin autocorrelation function, both at ambient pressure and upon compression.
