Combined Dictionary Unfolding Network with Gradient-Adaptive Fidelity for Transferable Multi-Source Fusion

Deep Unfolding Network-based methods have emerged as effective solutions for multi-source image fusion by combining model-driven iterative optimization with data-driven deep learning. However, most existing deep unfolding image fusion methods are derived from alternating minimization, which updates the features of different modalities separately. This design introduces considerable computational and memory overhead, limiting deployment on resource-constrained edge devices. To address this issue, we propose CDNet, a lightweight Combined Dictionary Unfolding Network for multi-source image fusion. Rather than introducing a new sparse coding prior or empirically compressing an existing fusion network, CDNet translates the unique-common decomposition prior of coupled dictionary learning into a structurally constrained joint unfolding architecture. The resulting CDBlock follows a block-sparse interaction topology and performs a model-derived joint update of common and modality-specific representations, thereby streamlining feature learning and improving efficiency. In addition, we design a compact High- and Low-frequency Image Fidelity loss for unsupervised training without ground-truth images. We evaluate CDNet on four tasks, including multi-exposure image fusion, infrared and visible image fusion, medical image fusion, and infrared and visible image fusion for semantic segmentation. Experimental results show that CDNet achieves competitive or superior fusion performance with high efficiency. For infrared and visible image fusion, CDNet outperforms competing methods on four of six metrics on the TNO dataset and five of six metrics on the RoadScene dataset. In particular, it surpasses the second-best method by 1.23 dB and 1.59 dB in PSNR on TNO and RoadScene, respectively.

Generative Steganography Network

Steganography usually modifies cover media to embed secret data. A new steganographic approach called generative steganography (GS) has emerged recently, in which stego images (images containing secret data) are generated from secret data directly without cover media. However, existing GS schemes are often criticized for their poor performances. In this paper, we propose an advanced generative steganography network (GSN) that can generate realistic stego images without using cover images. We firstly introduce the mutual information mechanism in GS, which helps to achieve high secret extraction accuracy. Our model contains four sub-networks, i.e., an image generator ($G$), a discriminator ($D$), a steganalyzer ($S$), and a data extractor ($E$). $D$ and $S$ act as two adversarial discriminators to ensure the visual quality and security of generated stego images. $E$ is to extract the hidden secret from generated stego images. The generator $G$ is flexibly constructed to synthesize either cover or stego images with different inputs. It facilitates covert communication by concealing the function of generating stego images in a normal generator. A module named secret block is designed to hide secret data in the feature maps during image generation, with which high hiding capacity and image fidelity are achieved. In addition, a novel hierarchical gradient decay (HGD) skill is developed to resist steganalysis detection. Experiments demonstrate the superiority of our work over existing methods.

SueNes: A Weakly Supervised Approach to Evaluating Single-Document Summarization via Negative Sampling

Canonical automatic summary evaluation metrics, such as ROUGE, focus on lexical similarity which cannot well capture semantics nor linguistic quality and require a reference summary which is costly to obtain. Recently, there have been a growing number of efforts to alleviate either or both of the two drawbacks. In this paper, we present a proof-of-concept study to a weakly supervised summary evaluation approach without the presence of reference summaries. Massive data in existing summarization datasets are transformed for training by pairing documents with corrupted reference summaries. In cross-domain tests, our strategy outperforms baselines with promising improvements, and show a great advantage in gauging linguistic qualities over all metrics.
