We study $\ell^2$ Betti numbers, coherence, and virtual fibring of random groups in the few-relator model. In particular, random groups with negative Euler characteristic are coherent, have $\ell^2$ homology concentrated in dimension 1, and embed in a virtually free-by-cyclic group with high probability. Similar results are shown with positive probability in the zero Euler characteristic case.
We construct a correspondence between the cohomology groups of a group $G$ relative to a family of subgroups $\famS$ and the classes of `relative extensions' of $G$ by abelian groups, modulo a certain equivalence relation. We establish this correspondence for both discrete and profinite group pairs. We go on to discuss the relationships of profinite group pairs of cohomological dimension one with free products and projective group pairs.
We establish a sufficient condition for a finitely generated pro-$p$ group to be accessible in terms of finite generation of the module of ends.
Using the computer algebra program GAP, we show that all crystallographic groups in dimensions at most 4 are distinguished from each other by their sets of finite quotients.
