Reply to Comment "Density of states and critical behavior of the three-dimensional Coulomb Glass"

We reply to the Comment by Mobius and Richter [arXiv:0908.3092, Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 039701 (2010)] on "Density of States and Critical Behavior of the Coulomb Glass" [arXiv:0805.4640, Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 067205 (2009)] and address the issues raised with our results on the density of states. In addition, we correct our statements about the random displacement version of the Coulomb glass model where the Wigner crystal is not as robust to disorder as stated. Still, our main result of a lack of a finite-temperature transition in the Coulomb glass remains unchallenged.

Vertically Graded Anisotropy in Co/Pd Multilayers

Depth-grading of magnetic anisotropy in perpendicular magnetic media has been predicted to reduce the field required to write data without sacrificing thermal stability. To study this prediction, we have produced Co/Pd multilayers with depth-dependent Co layer thickness. Polarized neutron reflectometry shows that the thickness grading results in a corresponding magnetic anisotropy gradient. Magnetometry reveals that the anisotropy gradient promotes domain nucleation upon magnetization reversal - a clear experimental demonstration of the effectiveness of graded anisotropy for reducing write-field.

Ordered states in the disordered Hubbard model

The Hubbard model is studied in which disorder is introduced by putting the on-site interaction to zero on a fraction f of (impurity) sites of a square lattice. Using Quantum Monte Carlo methods and Dynamical Mean Field theory we find that antiferromagnetic long-range order is initially enhanced at half-filling and stabilized off half-filling by the disorder. The Mott-Hubbard charge gap of the pure system is broken up into two pieces by the disorder: one incompressible state remains at average density n=1 and another can be seen slightly below n=1+f. Qualitative explanations are provided.

Mean Field Theory of the Localization Transition

A mean field theory of the localization transition for bosonic systems is developed. Localization is shown to be sensitive to the distribution of the random site energies. It occurs in the presence of a triangular distribution, but not a uniform one. The inverse participation ratio, the single site Green's function, the superfluid order parameter and the corresponding susceptibility are calculated, and the appropriate exponents determined. All of these quantities indicate the presence of a new phase, which can be identified as the {\it Bose-glass}.
