Exact null octagon

We consider the so-called simplest correlation function of four infinitely heavy half-BPS operators in planar N=4 SYM in the limit when the operators are light-like separated in a sequential manner. We find a closed-form expression for the correlation function in this limit as a function of the 't Hooft coupling and residual cross ratios. Our analysis heavily relies on the factorization of the correlation function into the product of null octagons and on the recently established determinant representation for the latter. We show that the null octagon is given by a Fredholm determinant of a certain integral operator which has a striking similarity to those previously encountered in the study of two-point correlation functions in exactly solvable models at finite temperature and of level spacing distributions for random matrices. This allows us to compute the null octagon exactly by employing a method of differential equations.

Octagon at finite coupling

We study a special class of four-point correlation functions of infinitely heavy half-BPS operators in planar N=4 SYM which admit factorization into a product of two octagon form factors. We demonstrate that these functions satisfy a system of nonlinear integro-differential equations which are powerful enough to fully determine their dependence on the 't Hooft coupling and two cross ratios. At weak coupling, solution to these equations yields a known series representation of the octagon in terms of ladder integrals. At strong coupling, we develop a systematic expansion of the octagon in the inverse powers of the coupling constant and calculate accompanying expansion coefficients analytically. We examine the strong coupling expansion of the correlation function in various kinematical regions and observe a perfect agreement both with the expected asymptotic behavior dictated by the OPE and with results of numerical evaluation. We find that, surprisingly enough, the strong coupling expansion is Borel summable. Applying the Borel-Pade summation method, we show that the strong coupling expansion correctly describes the correlation function over a wide region of the 't Hooft coupling.

Energy correlations in the end-point region

The energy-energy correlation (EEC) measures the angular distribution of the energy that flows through two calorimeters separated by some relative angle in the final state created by a source. We study this observable in the limit of small and large angles when it describes the correlation between particles belonging, respectively, to the same jet and to two almost back-to-back jets. We present a new approach to resumming large logarithmically enhanced corrections in both limits that exploits the relation between the energy correlations and four-point correlation functions of conserved currents. At large angle, we derive the EEC from the behaviour of the correlation function in the limit when four operators are light-like separated in a sequential manner. At small angle, in a conformal theory, we obtain the EEC from resummation of the conformal partial wave expansion of the correlation function at short-distance separation between the calorimeters. In both cases, we obtain a concise representation of the EEC in terms of the conformal data of twist-two operators and verify it by comparing with the results of explicit calculation at next-to-next-to-leading order in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. As a byproduct of our analysis, we predict the maximal weight part of the analogous QCD expression in the back-to-back limit.

On level crossing in conformal field theories

We study the properties of operators in a unitary conformal field theory whose scaling dimensions approach each other for some values of the parameters and satisfy von Neumann-Wigner non-crossing rule. We argue that the scaling dimensions of such operators and their OPE coefficients have a universal scaling behavior in the vicinity of the crossing point. We demonstrate that the obtained relations are in a good agreement with the known examples of the level-crossing phenomenon in maximally supersymmetric $\mathcal N=4$ Yang-Mills theory, three-dimensional conformal field theories and QCD.

Correlation functions of the chiral stress-tensor multiplet in N=4 SYM

We give a new method for computing the correlation functions of the chiral part of the stress-tensor supermultiplet that relies on the reformulation of N=4 SYM in twistor space. It yields the correlation functions in the Born approximation as a sum of Feynman diagrams on twistor space that involve only propagators and no integration vertices. We use this unusual feature of the twistor Feynman rules to compute the correlation functions in terms of simple building blocks which we identify as a new class of N=4 off-shell superconformal invariants. Making use of the duality between correlation functions and planar scattering amplitudes, we demonstrate that these invariants represent an off-shell generalisation of the on-shell invariants defining tree-level scattering amplitudes in N=4 SYM.

Four-point correlation function of stress-energy tensors in N=4 superconformal theories

We derive the explicit expression for the four-point correlation function of stress-energy tensors in four-dimensional N=4 superconformal theory. We show that it has a remarkably simple and suggestive form allowing us to predict a large class of four-point correlation functions involving the stress-energy tensor and other conserved currents. We then apply the obtained results on the correlation functions to computing the energy-energy correlations, which measure the flow of energy in the final states created from the vacuum by a source. We demonstrate that they are given by a universal function independent of the choice of the source. Our analysis relies only on N=4 superconformal symmetry and does not use the dynamics of the theory.

Event shapes in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory

We study event shapes in N=4 SYM describing the angular distribution of energy and R-charge in the final states created by the simplest half-BPS scalar operator. Applying the approach developed in the companion paper arXiv:1309.0769, we compute these observables using the correlation functions of certain components of the N=4 stress-tensor supermultiplet: the half-BPS operator itself, the R-symmetry current and the stress tensor. We present master formulas for the all-order event shapes as convolutions of the Mellin amplitude defining the correlation function of the half-BPS operators, with a coupling-independent kernel determined by the choice of the observable. We find remarkably simple relations between various event shapes following from N=4 superconformal symmetry. We perform thorough checks at leading order in the weak coupling expansion and show perfect agreement with the conventional calculations based on amplitude techniques. We extend our results to strong coupling using the correlation function of half-BPS operators obtained from the AdS/CFT correspondence.

From correlation functions to event shapes

We present a new approach to computing event shape distributions or, more precisely, charge flow correlations in a generic conformal field theory (CFT). These infrared finite observables are familiar from collider physics studies and describe the angular distribution of global charges in outgoing radiation created from the vacuum by some source. The charge flow correlations can be expressed in terms of Wightman correlation functions in a certain limit. We explain how to compute these quantities starting from their Euclidean analogues by means of a non-trivial analytic continuation which, in the framework of CFT, can elegantly be performed in Mellin space. The relation between the charge flow correlations and Euclidean correlation functions can be reformulated directly in configuration space, bypassing the Mellin representation, as a certain Lorentzian double discontinuity of the correlation function integrated along the cuts. We illustrate the general formalism in N=4 SYM, making use of the well-known results on the four-point correlation function of half-BPS scalar operators. We compute the double scalar flow correlation in N=4 SYM, at weak and strong coupling and show that it agrees with known results obtained by different techniques. One of the remarkable features of the N=4 theory is that the scalar and energy flow correlations are proportional to each other. Imposing natural physical conditions on the energy flow correlations (finiteness, positivity and regularity), we formulate additional constraints on the four-point correlation functions in N=4 SYM that should be valid at any coupling and away from the planar limit.

N=4 superconformal Ward identities for correlation functions

In this paper we study the four-point correlation function of the energy-momentum supermultiplet in theories with N=4 superconformal symmetry in four dimensions. We present a compact form of all component correlators as an invariant of a particular abelian subalgebra of the N=4 superconformal algebra. This invariant is unique up to a single function of the conformal cross-ratios which is fixed by comparison with the correlation function of the lowest half-BPS scalar operators. Our analysis is independent of the dynamics of a specific theory, in particular it is valid in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory for any value of the coupling constant. We discuss in great detail a subclass of component correlators, which is a crucial ingredient for the recent study of charge-flow correlations in conformal field theories. We compute the latter explicitly and elucidate the origin of the interesting relations among different types of flow correlations previously observed in arXiv:1309.1424.

Dual conformal symmetry on the light-cone

We study the properties of conformal operators in the SL(2) sector of planar N=4 SYM and its supersymmetric SL(2|2) extension. The correlation functions of these operators and their form factors with respect to asymptotic on-shell states are determined in the appropriate limit by two different polynomials which can be identified as eigenstates of the dilatation operator in the coordinate and momentum representations, respectively. We argue that, in virtue of integrability of the dilatation operator, the two polynomials satisfy a duality relation -- they are proportional to each other upon an appropriate identification of momenta and coordinates. Combined with the conventional N=4 superconformal symmetry, this leads to the dual superconformal symmetry of the dilatation operator. We demonstrate that this symmetry is powerful enough to fix the eigenspectrum of the dilatation operator to the lowest order in the coupling. We use the relation between the one-loop dilatation operator and Heisenberg spin chain to show that, to lowest order in the coupling, the dual symmetry is generated by the Baxter Q-operator in the limit of large spectral parameter.

Are scattering amplitudes dual to super Wilson loops?

The MHV scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 SYM are dual to bosonic light-like Wilson loops. We explore various proposals for extending this duality to generic non-MHV amplitudes. The corresponding dual object should have the same symmetries as the scattering amplitudes and be invariant to all loops under the chiral half of the N=4 superconformal symmetry. We analyze the recently introduced supersymmetric extensions of the light-like Wilson loop (formulated in Minkowski space-time) and demonstrate that they have the required symmetry properties at the classical level only, up to terms proportional to field equations of motion. At the quantum level, due to the specific light-cone singularities of the Wilson loop, the equations of motion produce a nontrivial finite contribution which breaks some of the classical symmetries. As a result, the quantum corrections violate the chiral supersymmetry already at one loop, thus invalidating the conjectured duality between Wilson loops and non-MHV scattering amplitudes. We compute the corresponding anomaly to one loop and solve the supersymmetric Ward identity to find the complete expression for the rectangular Wilson loop at leading order in the coupling constant. We also demonstrate that this result is consistent with conformal Ward identities by independently evaluating corresponding one-loop conformal anomaly.

Review of AdS/CFT Integrability, Chapter IV.4: Integrability in QCD and N<4 SYM

There is a growing amount of evidence that QCD (and four-dimensional gauge theories in general) possess a hidden symmetry which does not exhibit itself as a symmetry of classical Lagrangians but is only revealed on the quantum level. In this review we consider the scale dependence of local gauge invariant operators and high-energy (Regge) behavior of scattering amplitudes to explain that the effective QCD dynamics in both cases is described by completely integrable systems that prove to be related to the celebrated Heisenberg spin chain and its generalizations.

Superconformal invariants for scattering amplitudes in N=4 SYM theory

Recent studies of scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 SYM theory revealed the existence of a hidden dual superconformal symmetry. Together with the conventional superconformal symmetry it gives rise to powerful restrictions on the planar scattering amplitudes to all loops. We study the general form of the invariants of both symmetries. We first construct an integral representation for the most general dual superconformal invariants and show that it allows a considerable freedom in the choice of the integration measure. We then perform a half-Fourier transform to twistor space, where conventional conformal symmetry is realized locally, derive the resulting conformal Ward identity for the integration measure and show that it admits a unique solution. Thus, the combination of dual and conventional superconformal symmetries, together with invariance under helicity rescalings, completely fixes the form of the invariants. The expressions obtained generalize the known tree and one-loop superconformal invariants and coincide with the recently proposed coefficients of the leading singularities of the scattering amplitudes as contour integrals over Grassmannians.

Symmetries and analytic properties of scattering amplitudes in N=4 SYM theory

In addition to the superconformal symmetry of the underlying Lagrangian, the scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory exhibit a new, dual superconformal symmetry. We address the question of how powerful these symmetries are to completely determine the scattering amplitudes. We use the example of the NMHV superamplitudes to show that the combined action of conventional and dual superconformal symmetries is not sufficient to fix all the freedom in the tree-level amplitudes. We argue that the additional information needed comes from the study of the analytic properties of the amplitudes. The requirement of absence of spurious singularities, together with the correct multi-particle singular behavior, determines the unique linear combination of superinvariants corresponding to the n-particle NMHV superamplitude. The same result can be obtained recursively, by relating the n- and (n-1)-particle amplitudes in the singular collinear limit. We also formulate constraints on the loop corrections to the superamplitudes, following from the analytic behavior in the above limits. We then show that the holomorphic anomaly of the tree amplitudes leads to the breakdown of dual Poincare supersymmetry (which is equivalent to ordinary special conformal supersymmetry) of the ratio of the NMHV and MHV superamplitudes at one-loop level, but this anomaly does not affect dual conformal symmetry.

Twistor transform of all tree amplitudes in N=4 SYM theory

We perform the twistor (half-Fourier) transform of all tree n-particle superamplitudes in N=4 SYM and show that it has a transparent geometric interpretation. We find that the N^kMHV amplitude is supported on a set of (2k+1) intersecting lines in twistor space and demonstrate that the corresponding line moduli form a lightlike (2k+1)-gon in moduli space. This polygon is triangulated into two kinds of lightlike triangles lying in different planes. We formulate simple graphical rules for constructing the triangulated polygons, from which the analytic expressions of the N^kMHV amplitudes follow directly, both in twistor and in momentum space. We also discuss the ordinary and dual conformal properties and the cancellation of spurious singularities in twistor space.

Generalized unitarity for N=4 super-amplitudes

We develop a manifestly supersymmetric version of the generalized unitarity cut method for calculating scattering amplitudes in N=4 SYM theory. We illustrate the power of this method by computing the one-loop n-point NMHV super-amplitudes. The result confirms two conjectures which we made in arXiv:0807.1095 [hep-th]. Firstly, we derive the compact, manifestly dual superconformally covariant form of the NMHV tree amplitudes for arbitrary number and types of external particles. Secondly, we show that the ratio of the one-loop NMHV to the MHV amplitude is dual conformal invariant.

On planar gluon amplitudes/Wilson loops duality

There is growing evidence that on-shell gluon scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 SYM theory are equivalent to Wilson loops evaluated over contours consisting of straight, light-like segments defined by the momenta of the external gluons. This equivalence was first suggested at strong coupling using the AdS/CFT correspondence and has since been verified at weak coupling to one loop in perturbation theory. Here we perform an explicit two-loop calculation of the Wilson loop dual to the four-gluon scattering amplitude and demonstrate that the relation holds beyond one loop. We also propose an anomalous conformal Ward identity which uniquely fixes the form of the finite part (up to an additive constant) of the Wilson loop dual to four- and five-gluon amplitudes, in complete agreement with the BDS conjecture for the multi-gluon MHV amplitudes.

Superconformal operators in Yang-Mills theories on the light-cone

We employ the light-cone superspace formalism to develop an efficient approach to constructing superconformal operators of twist two in Yang-Mills theories with N=1,2,4 supercharges. These operators have an autonomous scale dependence to one-loop order and determine the eigenfunctions of the dilatation operator in the underlying gauge theory. We demonstrate that for arbitrary N the superconformal operators are given by remarkably simple, universal expressions involving the light-cone superfields. When written in components field, they coincide with the known results obtained by conventional techniques.

Dilatation operator in (super-)Yang-Mills theories on the light-cone

The gauge/string correspondence hints that the dilatation operator in gauge theories with the superconformal SU(2,2|N) symmetry should possess universal integrability properties for different N. We provide further support for this conjecture by computing a one-loop dilatation operator in all (super)symmetric Yang-Mills theories on the light-cone ranging from gluodynamics all the way to the maximally supersymmetric N=4 theory. We demonstrate that the dilatation operator takes a remarkably simple form when realized in the space spanned by single-trace products of superfields separated by light-like distances. The latter operators serve as generating functions for Wilson operators of the maximal Lorentz spin and the scale dependence of the two are in the one-to-one correspondence with each other. In the maximally supersymmetric, N=4 theory all nonlocal light-cone operators are built from a single CPT self-conjugated superfield while for N=0,1,2 one has to deal with two distinct superfields and distinguish three different types of such operators. We find that for the light-cone operators built from only one species of superfields, the one-loop dilatation operator takes the same, universal form in all SYM theories and it can be mapped in the multi-color limit into a Hamiltonian of the SL(2|N) Heisenberg (super)spin chain of length equal to the number of superfields involved. For "mixed'' light-cone operators involving both superfields the dilatation operator for N<=2 receives an additional contribution from the exchange interaction between superfields on the light-cone which breaks its integrability symmetry and creates a mass gap in the spectrum of anomalous dimensions.

Integrability in QCD and beyond

Yang--Mills theories in four space-time dimensions possess a hidden symmetry which does not exhibit itself as a symmetry of classical Lagrangians but is only revealed on the quantum level. It turns out that the effective Yang--Mills dynamics in several important limits is described by completely integrable systems that prove to be related to the celebrated Heisenberg spin chain and its generalizations. In this review we explain the general phenomenon of complete integrability and its realization in several different situations. As a prime example, we consider in some detail the scale dependence of composite (Wilson) operators in QCD and super-Yang--Mills (SYM) theories. High-energy (Regge) behavior of scattering amplitudes in QCD is also discussed and provides one with another realization of the same phenomenon that differs, however, from the first example in essential details. As the third example, we address the low-energy effective action in a N=2 SYM theory which, contrary to the previous two cases, corresponds to a classical integrable model. Finally, we include a short overview of recent attempts to use gauge/string duality in order to relate integrability of Yang--Mills dynamics with the hidden symmetry of a string theory on a curved background.

Integrability in Yang-Mills theory on the light cone beyond leading order

The one-loop dilatation operator in Yang-Mills theory possesses a hidden integrability symmetry in the sector of maximal helicity Wilson operators. We calculate two-loop corrections to the dilatation operator and demonstrate that while integrability is broken for matter in the fundamental representation of the SU(3) gauge group, for the adjoint SU(N_c) matter it survives the conformal symmetry breaking and persists in supersymmetric N=1, N=2 and N=4 Yang-Mills theories.

Multi-reggeon compound states and resummed anomalous dimensions in QCD

We perform the OPE analysis of the contribution of colour-singlet compound states of reggeized gluons to a generic hard process in QCD and calculate the spectrum of the corresponding higher twist anomalous dimensions in multi-colour limit. These states govern high energy asymptotics of the structure functions and their energies define the intercept of the Regge singularities both in the Pomeron and the Odderon sectors. We argue that due to nontrivial analytical properties of the energy spectrum, the twist expansion does not hold for the gluonic states with the minimal energy generating the leading Regge singularities. It is restored however after one takes into account the states with larger energies whose contribution to the Regge asymptotics is subleading.

Quantum integrability in (super) Yang-Mills theory on the light-cone

We employ the light-cone formalism to construct in the (super) Yang-Mills theories in the multi-color limit the one-loop dilatation operator acting on single trace products of chiral superfields separated by light-like distances. In the N=4 Yang-Mills theory it exhausts all Wilson operators of the maximal Lorentz spin while in nonsupersymmetric Yang-Mills theory it is restricted to the sector of maximal helicity gluonic operators. We show that the dilatation operator in all N-extended super Yang-Mills theories is given by the same integral operator which acts on the (N+1)-dimensional superspace and is invariant under the SL(2|N) superconformal transformations. We construct the R-matrix on this space and identify the dilatation operator as the Hamiltonian of the Heisenberg SL(2|N) spin chain.

Baxter Q-operator and Separation of Variables for the open SL(2,R) spin chain

We construct the Baxter Q-operator and the representation of the Separated Variables (SoV) for the homogeneous open SL(2,R) spin chain. Applying the diagrammatical approach, we calculate Sklyanin's integration measure in the separated variables and obtain the solution to the spectral problem for the model in terms of the eigenvalues of the Q-operator. We show that the transition kernel to the SoV representation is factorized into the product of certain operators each depending on a single separated variable. As a consequence, it has a universal pyramid-like form that has been already observed for various quantum integrable models such as periodic Toda chain, closed SL(2,R) and SL(2,C) spin chains.

Gauge/string duality for QCD conformal operators

Renormalization group evolution of QCD composite light-cone operators, built from two and more quark and gluon fields, is responsible for the logarithmic scaling violations in diverse physical observables. We analyze spectra of anomalous dimensions of these operators at large conformal spins at weak and strong coupling with the emphasis on the emergence of a dual string picture. The multi-particle spectrum at weak coupling has a hidden symmetry due to integrability of the underlying dilatation operator which drives the evolution. In perturbative regime, we demonstrate the equivalence of the one-loop cusp anomaly to the disk partition function in two-dimensional Yang-Mills theory which admits a string representation. The strong coupling regime for anomalous dimensions is discussed within the two pictures addressed recently, -- minimal surfaces of open strings and rotating long closed strings in AdS background. In the latter case we find that the integrability implies the presence of extra degrees of freedom -- the string junctions. We demonstrate how the analysis of their equations of motion naturally agrees with the spectrum found at weak coupling.

Separation of variables for the quantum SL(2,R) spin chain

We construct representation of the Separated Variables (SoV) for the quantum SL(2,R) Heisenberg closed spin chain and obtain the integral representation for the eigenfunctions of the model. We calculate explicitly the Sklyanin measure defining the scalar product in the SoV representation and demonstrate that the language of Feynman diagrams is extremely useful in establishing various properties of the model. The kernel of the unitary transformation to the SoV representation is described by the same "pyramid diagram" as appeared before in the SoV representation for the SL(2,C) spin magnet. We argue that this kernel is given by the product of the Baxter Q-operators projected onto a special reference state.

Noncompact Heisenberg spin magnets from high-energy QCD: III. Quasiclassical approach

The exact solution of the noncompact SL(2,C) Heisenberg spin magnet reveals a hidden symmetry of the energy spectrum. To understand its origin, we solve the spectral problem for the model within quasiclassical approach. In this approach, the integrals of motion satisfy the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization conditions imposed on the orbits of classical motion. In the representation of the separated coordinates, the latter wrap around a Riemann surface defined by the spectral curve of the model. A novel feature of the obtained quantization conditions is that they involve both the alpha- and beta-periods of the action differential on the Riemann surface, thus allowing us to find their solutions by exploring the full modular group of the spectral curve. We demonstrate that the quasiclassical energy spectrum is in a good agreement with the exact results.

Energy flow in QCD and event shape functions

Hadronization corrections to the thrust and related event shape distributions in the two-jet kinematical region of e+e- annihilation are summarized by nonperturbative shape functions. The moments of shape functions are given by universal matrix elements in QCD, which describe the energy flow in QCD final states. We show how the nonperturbative structure of these matrix elements may be inferred from resummed perturbation theory and Lorentz invariance. This analysis suggests the same functional forms for the shape functions as were found in phenomenological studies, and sheds light on the physical significance of the parameters that characterize these functions.

Evolution equation for the structure function g_2(x,Q^2)

We perform an extensive study of the scale dependence of flavor-singlet contributions to the structure function g_2(x,Q^2) in polarized deep-inelastic scattering. We find that the mixing between quark-antiquark-gluon and three-gluon twist-3 operators only involves the three-gluon operator with the lowest anomalous dimension and is weak in other cases. This means, effectively, that only those three-gluon operators with the lowest anomalous dimension for each moment are important, and allows to formulate a simple two-component parton-like description of g_2(x,Q^2) in analogy with the conventional description of twist-2 parton distributions. The similar simplification was observed earlier for the nonsinglet distributions, although the reason is in our case different.

Noncompact Heisenberg spin magnets from high-energy QCD: I. Baxter Q-operator and Separation of Variables

We analyze a completely integrable two-dimensional quantum-mechanical model that emerged in the recent studies of the compound gluonic states in multi-color QCD at high energy. The model represents a generalization of the well-known homogenous Heisenberg spin magnet to infinite-dimensional representations of the SL(2,C) group and can be reformulated within the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method. Solving the Yang-Baxter equation, we obtain the R-matrix for the SL(2,C) representations of the principal series and discuss its properties. We explicitly construct the Baxter Q-operator for this model and show how it can be used to determine the energy spectrum. We apply Sklyanin's method of the Separated Variables to obtain an integral representation for the eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonian. We demonstrate that the language of Feynman diagrams supplemented with the method of uniqueness provide a powerful technique for analyzing the properties of the model.

Evolution of twist-three parton distributions in QCD beyond the large N_c limit

We formulate a consistent 1/N_c^2 expansion of the QCD evolution equations for the twist-three quark distributions g_2(x,Q^2), h_L(x,Q^2) and e(x,Q^2) based on the interpretation of the evolution as a three-particle quantum-mechanical problem with hermitian Hamiltonian. Each distribution amplitude can be decomposed in contributions of partonic components with DGLAP-type scale dependence. We calculate the 1/N_c^2 corrections to the evolution of the dominant component with the lowest anomalous dimension - the only one that survives in the large-N_c limit - and observe a good agreement with the exact numerical results for N_c=3. The 1/N_c^2 admixture of operators with higher anomalous dimensions is shown to be concentrated at a few lowest partonic components and in general is rather weak.

Power corrections to event shapes and factorization

We study power corrections to the differential thrust, heavy mass and related event shape distributions in $e^+e^-$-annihilation, whose values, $e$, are proportional to jet masses in the two-jet limit, $e\to 0$. The factorization properties of these differential distributions imply that they may be written as convolutions of nonperturbative "shape" functions, describing the emission of soft quanta by the jets, and resummed perturbative cross sections. The infrared shape functions are different for different event shapes, and depend on a factorization scale, but are independent of the center-of-mass energy $Q$. They organize all power corrections of the form $1/(eQ)^n$, for arbitrary $n$, and carry information on a class of universal matrix elements of the energy-momentum tensor in QCD, directly related to the energy-energy correlations.

Quasiclassical QCD Pomeron

The Regge behaviour of the scattering amplitudes in perturbative QCD is governed in the generalized leading logarithmic approximation by the contribution of the color--singlet compound states of Reggeized gluons. The interaction between Reggeons is described by the effective hamiltonian, which in the multi--color limit turns out to be identical to the hamiltonian of the completely integrable one--dimensional XXX Heisenberg magnet of noncompact spin $s=0$. The spectrum of the color singlet Reggeon compound states - perturbative Pomerons and Odderons, is expressed by means of the Bethe Ansatz in terms of the fundamental $Q-$function, which satisfies the Baxter equation for the XXX Heisenberg magnet. The exact solution of the Baxter equation is known only in the simplest case of the compound state of two Reggeons, the BFKL Pomeron. For higher Reggeon states the method is developed which allows to find its general solution as an asymptotic series in powers of the inverse conformal weight of the Reggeon states. The quantization conditions for the conserved charges for interacting Reggeons are established and an agreement with the results of numerical solutions is observed. The asymptotic approximation of the energy of the Reggeon states is defined based on the properties of the asymptotic series, and the intercept of the three--Reggeon states, perturbative Odderon, is estimated.

Bethe Ansatz for QCD Pomeron,

The equivalence is found between high-energy QCD in the generalized leading logarithmic approximation and the one-dimensional Heisenberg magnet. According to Regge theory, the high energy asymptotics of hadronic scattering amplitudes are related to singularities of partial waves in the complex angular momentum plane. In QCD, the partial waves are determined by nontrivial two-dimensional dynamics of the transverse gluonic degrees of freedom. The "bare" gluons interact with each other to form a collective excitation, the Reggeon. The partial waves of the scattering amplitude satisfy the Bethe-Salpeter equation whose solutions describe the color singlet compound states of Reggeons -- Pomeron, Odderon and higher Reggeon states. We show that the QCD Hamiltonian for reggeized gluons coincides in the multi-color limit with the Hamiltonian of XXX Heisenberg magnet for spin s=0 and spin operators the generators of the conformal SL(2,C) group. As a result, the Schrodinger equation for the compound states of Reggeons has a sufficient number of conservation laws to be completely integrable. A generalized Bethe ansatz is developed for the diagonalization of the QCD Hamiltonian and for the calculation of hadron-hadron scattering. Using the Bethe Ansatz solution of high-energy QCD we investigate the properties of the Reggeon compound states which govern the Regge behavior of the total hadron-hadron cross sections and the small-x behavior of the structure functions of deep inelastic scattering.

Infrared factorization in inclusive B meson decays

We perform infrared factorization of differential rates of radiative and semileptonic inclusive decays of the B meson in the end-point region of photon and charged lepton spectrum, respectively, in the leading heavy quark mass limit. We find that the differential rates are expressed in terms of hard, jet and soft functions, which satisfy evolution equations. Solving these equations, we find expressions for the moments of the differential rates in their end-point regions, which take into account all leading and nonleading logarithmic corrections in perturbation theory, as well as large nonperturbative power corrections. Expanded to the one-loop level, our predictions coincide with the results of existing lowest order calculations for B->γX_s and B->l\barnu X_u. Nonperturbative corrections appear in our formalism from the boundary value of the soft function in the evolution equation. The soft function is a universal process-independent function, which describes the distribution of the b quark in the B meson. Its behavior in the end-point region is governed by the nonperturbative asymptotics of a Wilson line expectation value. By considering the contributions of infrared renormalons, we find an ansatz for the Wilson line, which leads to a Gaussian model for the heavy quark distribution function.

Nonperturbative Corrections in Resummed Cross Sections

We show that the resummation of large perturbative corrections in QCD leads to ambiguities in high energy cross sections that are suppressed by powers of large momentum scales. These ambiguities are caused by infrared renormalons, which are a general feature of resummed hard-scattering functions in perturbative QCD, even though these functions are infrared safe order-by-order in perturbation theory. As in the case of the operator product expansion, the contributions of infrared renormalons to coefficient functions may be absorbed into the definition of higher-dimensional operators, which induce nonperturbative corrections that are power-suppressed at high energies. The strength of the suppression is determined by the location of the dominant infrared renormalon, which may be identified explicitly in the resummed series. In contrast to the operator product expansion, however, the relevant operators in factorized hadron-hadron scattering and jet cross sections are generally nonlocal in QCD, although they may be expressed as local operators in an effective theory for eikonalized quarks. In this context, we verify and interpret the presence of $1/Q$ corrections to the inclusive Drell-Yan cross section with $Q$ the pair mass. In a similar manner, we find $\exp(-b^2\ln Q)$ corrections in the impact parameter space of the transverse momentum distributions of the Drell-Yan process and $e^+e^-$ annihilation. We also show that the dominant nonperturbative corrections to cone-based jet cross sections behave as $1/(Qδ)$, with $δ$ the opening angle of the jet and $Q$ the center of mass energy.

Renormalized sum rules for structure functions of heavy mesons decays

We consider properties of the structure functions of inclusive heavy meson decays $B\to X_c$ and treat the $c$ quark mass as a free parameter. We show that in two extreme cases of heavy and light $c$ quark the structure functions of heavy--heavy and heavy--light transitions are given by a Fourier transform of the matrix elements of Wilson lines containing a time--like and a light--like segment, correspondingly. Using the renormalization properties of Wilson lines we find the dependence of the structure functions on the factorization scale, the structure function of heavy--heavy transition is renormalized multiplicatively while that of heavy-light transition obeys the GLAP--type evolution equation. We propose a generalization of the sum rules for the moments of the structure functions (Bjorken, Voloshin, and the ``third'' sum rules) with a soft exponential factorization cut--off, which correctly incorporates both perturbative and nonperturbative effects. We analyze nonperturbative corrections by first considering infrared renormalon contributions to the Wilson lines. Uncertainties induced by the leading renormalon pole at $u=\frac12$ are exactly cancelled by the similar uncertainty in the heavy quark pole mass. The leading nonperturbative corrections associated with the next renormalon at $u=1$ are parameterized by the matrix element $μ_π^2$ which is proportional to the heavy quark kinetic energy.

Infrared Factorization, Wilson Lines and the Heavy Quark Limit

It is shown that, in QCD, the same universal function $Γ_{cusp}(\vartheta, α_\s)$ determines the infrared behaviour of the on-shell quark form factor, the velocity-dependent anomalous dimension in the heavy quark effective field theory (HQET) and the renormalization properties of the vacuum averaged Wilson lines with a cusp. It is demonstrated that a combined use of the methods developed in the relevant different branches of quantum field theory essentially facilitates the all-order study of the asymptotic and analytic properties of this function.

Matrix Model Perturbed by Higher Order Curvature Terms

The critical behaviour of the $D=0$ matrix model with potential perturbed by nonlocal term generating touchings between random surfaces is studied. It is found that the phase diagram of the model has many features of the phase diagram of discretized Polyakov's bosonic string with higher order curvature terms included. It contains the phase of smooth (Liouville) surfaces, the intermediate phase and the phase of branched polymers. The perturbation becomes irrelevant at the first phase and dominates at the third one.
