Energy harvesting in the nonlinear piezoelastic systems driven by stochastic excitations

In our work we examine the influence of background stochastic excitations on the power output generated by the energy harvester. The harvesting device we considered is composed of two small magnets, attached to piezoelastic oscillators, which are moving in the magnetic field produced by the static magnets fastened directly to the device. The moving magnets are coupled together by an electrical circuit. The nonlinearity of the system is achieved by the variable distance between the moving and static magnets, and additionally by the mass difference between them. The stochastic noise applied to the system obeys the Gaussian distribution. We examine the power output generated on the electric load at different excitation frequencies for different values of mistuning parameters and different stochastic amplitudes. We also present the mean value of the power generated averaged over a range of considered frequencies.

Correlation Effects in Itinerant Magnetism

In this contribution we would like to revisit the problems of ferromagnetism (F) and antiferromagnetism (AF) in the pure itinerant model. These methods can be extended later to the superconducting materials. In our model we assume the extended Hubbard Hamiltonian. Transition from the paramagnetic state to the ordered state of magnetic nature is decided by the competition between kinetic and potential energy in which there is an increase in the kinetic energy moderated by the inter-site interactions, and a decrease in the potential energy. The competition between these two energies results in the existence of critical values of interactions for creating magnetic alignment. Only when existing in a given material interaction exceeds the critical value for a given type of ordering we can have the alignment of this type. The influence of inter-site correlation on F and AF in the presence of Coulomb on-site correlation is investigated. The well known Landau free energy expansion is corrected for both F and AF ordering to reflect the presence of critical interaction in the second order term, which leads to the magnetic alignment. The numerical results show that the inter-site interactions favor F at the end of the band and AF at the half-filled point. In both cases of F and AF ordering, these interactions lower substantially the Curie and Neel's temperature towards experimental data. This helps to remove the paradox in magnetism that has persisted for a long time.

Antiferromagnetic ordering of itinerant systems in modified mean-field theory

This is an analysis of the itinerant model for antiferromagnetism, in which is included both on-site and inter-site electron correlations. We also consider the band degeneration, which brings into the Hamiltonian the on-site exchange interactions. The Green function technique is used and the coherent potential approximation (CPA) decoupling for the on-site Coulomb repulsion. This decoupling combined with the modified Hartree-Fock approximation for the inter-site interactions generates the change in shape of the spin bands with growing interaction constants, which is described by the correlation factors and which decreases the kinetic energy of the system. The effective Hartree field and the gain in kinetic energy due to the on-site and inter-site correlation factors drive the antiferromagnetism. The on-site and inter-site interactions act together towards the antiferromagnetism. Their cooperation decreases the interaction constants required for the antiferromagnetic ordering. This new approach allows for the antiferromagnetic instability in the purely itinerant model at the half-filling in the split band limit. This situation describes the high temperature superconducting cuprates.

Correlation Effects in Band Ferromagnetism

We analyze the influence of different on-site and inter-site interactions on the Curie temperature of transition metal magnetic elements. The numerical calculations show the well known result that the on-site Coulomb repulsion helps ferromagnetism mainly at half-filling of the band, where the 3d elements are antiferromagnetic (Cr, Mn). The inter-site interactions, which in the new approximation decrease the width of the band, favor ferromagnetism at both ends of the band. At the same time they lower the ferromagnetic Curie temperature towards experimental values, removing the paradox which persisted for a long time.

Interband pairing in extended two- and three-band Hubbard model

We study the existence of intraband and interband pairing in the extended two band and three-band Hubbard model. It is shown that including interband pairing significantly increases the superconducting critical temperature in comparison with critical temperature of the intraband pairing. This increase allows for decrease of the nearest-neighbor interaction constant necessary for critical temperature in high temperature superconductors to the realistic values.

Magnetic ordering of itinerant systems in modified mean field theory: antiferromagnetism

We analyze the itinerant model for antiferromagnetism, which was developed previously by Plischke, Mattis, Brouers and Mizia. In this model we include both; single-site and two-site electron correlations. Including additionally band degeneration into the model allows for considering intra-atomic exchange interactions in the Hamiltonian. The modified Hartree-Fock approximation for the two-site interactions is used. This approximation gives the spin band narrowing, which is the same for both spin directions and affects possibility of antiferromagnetic ordering. We use the Green function technique and CPA decoupling. This allows for the change in shape of the spin bands, described by the correlation factors, which decreases kinetic energy of the system. The effective Hartree field and the gain in kinetic energy due to the on-site and inter-site correlation factors drive the antiferromagnetism.

Magnetic ordering of itinerant systems; the role of kinetic exchange interaction

The possibility of ferromagnetic ordering is revisited in the band model. The coherent potential approximation decoupling has been used for the strong on-site Coulomb interaction. The driving forces towards the ferromagnetism are the on-site and inter-site molecular fields coming from different Coulomb interactions. Another driving force is the lowering of the kinetic energy with growing magnetic moment coming from the dependence of the hopping integrals on occupation of the neighboring sites involved in hopping. This effect is described by the hopping interaction, $Δt$, and by what we call the exchange-hopping interaction, $t_{ex}$. The exchange-hopping interaction, which is the difference in hopping integrals for different occupation of neighboring lattice sites, acts in analogous way to the Hund's magnetic exchange interaction. The results are calculated for semi-elliptic density of states (DOS) and for the distorted semi-elliptic DOS with the maximum around the Fermi energy. They show a natural tendency towards the magnetic ordering at the end of the 3d row for the DOS with maximum density around the Fermi energy, when the hopping integrals grow with the occupation of the neighboring lattice sites.
