CP violation and the 4th generation

Within the Standard model with the 4th generation quarks b' and t' we have analyzed CP-violating flavor changing neutral current processes t -> cX; b'-> sX, b'-> bX,t'-> cX, and t'-> tX, with X=Z,H,gamma,g, by constructing and employing global, unique fit for the 4th generation mass mixing matrix CKM4 at 300 < m_t' < 700 GeV. All quantities appearing in the CKM4 were subject to our fitting procedure. We have found that our fit produces the following CP partial rate asymmetry dominance: a_CP(b'-> s(Z,H,gamma,g))= (90,73,52,30)%, at m_t' ~ 300,300,380,400 GeV, respectively. From the experimental point of view the best decay mode, out of the above four, is certainly b'-> s gamma, because of the presence of a clean high energy single final state photon. We have also obtained relatively large a_CP(t -> c g) ~ 15 (10)% for t' running in the loops with the mass m_t'= 650(500) GeV. There are fair chances that the 4th generation quarks will be discovered at Tevatron or LHC and that some of their decay rates shall be measured. If b' and t' exist at energies we assumed, with well executed tagging, large a_CP could be found too.

On the Possibility of a New Boson X^0 (214 MeV) in Sigma^+ -> p mu^+ mu^-

We consider the existence of the state X^0 (214 MeV) in Sigma^+ -> p mu^+ mu^- decay found by the HyperCP collaboration. We assume that a fundamental spin zero boson X^0 coupled to quarks leads to flavor changing s -> d X^0 process. We estimate the scalar and pseudoscalar coupling constants by considering Sigma^+ -> p X^0 and K^+ -> pi^+ X^0 processes, and find that pseudoscalar coupling dominates. We then evaluate the branching ratios for K_L -> pi^0 pi^0 X^0, pi^+ pi^- X^0 and Omega^- -> Xi^- X^0 decays. All these rates are found to be in the measurable ranges. We also comment on X^0 coupling to muons and constraints from muon g-2.

Studying the scale and q^2 dependence of K^+-->pi^+e^+e^- decay

We extract the K^+-->pi^+e^+e^- amplitude scale at q^2=0 from the recent Brookhaven E865 high-statistics data. We find that the q^2=0 scale is fitted in excellent agreement with the theoretical long-distance amplitude. Lastly, we find that the observed q^2 shape is explained by the combined effect of the pion and kaon form-factor vector-meson-dominance rho, omega and phi poles, and a charged pion loop coupled to a virtual photon-->e^+e^- transition.

R-parity violation and CP-violating and CP-conserving spin asymmetries in l^+ l^- -> sneutrino -> tau^+ tau^-: probing sneutrino mixing at LEP2, NLC and mu^+mu^- colliders

We consider the sneutrino resonance reaction l^+ l^- -> sneutrino -> tau^+ tau^- in the MSSM without R-parity. We introduce new CP-violating and CP-conserving tau-spin asymmetries which are generated already at the tree-level if there is sneutrino - sneutrino-bar mixing and that are forbidden in the SM. It is remarkable that these spin asymmetries can reach ~75% around resonance for a sneutrino mass splitting of Δm ~ Γand ~10% for a splitting as low as Δm ~ 0.1Γ, where Γis the sneutrino width. We show that they are easily detectable already at LEP2 so long as the beam energy is within ~10 GeV range around the muon-sneutrino masses and may therefore serve as extremely powerful probes of sneutrino mixing phenomena.

The flavor changing top decay t-->c+sneutrino or sneutrino-->t+c(bar) in the MSSM without R-parity

Widths for the new flavor changing top quark decay t-->c+sneutrino or for the reversed sneutrino decay sneutrino-->t+c(bar) are calculated in the MSSM without R-parity conservation. For large \tanβ, e.g., \tanβ~ m_t/m_b ~ 40, Br(t-->c+sneutrino) > 10^{-5} or Br(sneutrino-->t+c(bar)) > 10^{-6} in a relatively wide range of the supersymmetric parameter space as long as there is more than one non-zero R-parity violating coupling. In the best cases, with a typical squark mass around 100 GeV, we find that Br(t-->c+sneutrino) ~ 10^{-4} - 10^{-3} or Br(sneutrino-->t+c(bar)) ~ 10^{-5} - 10^{-4}. For \tanβ~ O(1) the corresponding branching ratios for both top or sneutrino decays are too small to be measured at the LHC. Therefore, the decays t-->c+sneutrino or sneutrino-->t+c(bar) appear to be sensitive to \tanβand may be detected at the LHC. The branching ratios of the corresponding decays to an up quark instead of a charm quark, e.g., t-->u+sneutrino or sneutrino-->t+u(bar), may also be similar.

Asymmetry in the decay $Ω^-\toΞ^-γ$

We consider the asymmetry in the decay $Ω^-\rightarrowΞ^-γ$ assuming that a Vector Meson Dominance approach for the $s\rightarrow dγ$ transition gives the dominant contribution. Since in this long-distance approximation the decay is due to a single quark transition $s\rightarrow dγ$, the angular distribution asymmetry is given by the single positive asymmetry parameter $α_h = \frac{M^2_s-M^2_d}{M^2_s+M^2_d} = 0.4\pm0.1$. We also discuss the asymmetry in $Ξ\rightarrow Σ^-γ$, which is expected to be between -0.2 and 0.3.

LONG DISTANCE EFFECTS AND CP VIOLATION in $B^{\pm}\toρ^{\pm}γ$

We demonstrate that the long distance contribution to $B^{\pm} \to ρ^{\pm} γ$ may have a large effect on the decay rate and through it on the CP violating partial rate asymmetry. The change in the asymmetry can be between a factor of 0.4 and 1.4 with respect to the effect of the short distance contribution alone, depending on the values of the CKM parameters $ρ$ and $η$ .

Radiative Decay $ B \to l νγ$ in the Light Cone QCD Approach

We calculate to the leading twist 2 accuracy the rate for the decay $ B_{u} \rightarrow l νγ$ using the light cone QCD sume rules. We find $ Br( B_{u} \rightarrow l νγ) \simeq 2 \cdot 10^{-6} $. The results are used to test the applicability of the constituent quark model approximation to the same process.The latter estimate is proportional to $ 1/m_{u}^{2} $, where $ m_{u} \simeq \barΛ_{u} $ is the "constituent quark mass", indicating that the process is of long distance type. We find that the two approaches yield similar results for the rate with the choice $ m_{u} \simeq 430-480 \;MeV $. This indicates that the constituent quark model may be used for estimates of the radiative "annihilation" contribution to this and other radiative decays. We point out that this decay may be useful for the measurement of $ |V_{ub}|$.

Pure Leptonic Radiative Decays $B^\pm, D_s\to\ellνγ$ and the Annihilation Graph

Pure leptonic radiative decays of heavy-light mesons are calculated using a very simple non-relativistic model. Dominant contribution originates from photon emission from light initial quark. We find $BR(B^\pm\to\ellνγ)\sim3.5\times10^{-6}$ and $BR(D_s\to \ellνγ)\sim1.7 \times10^{-4}$. The importance of these reactions to clarify the dynamics of the annihilation graph is emphasized.
