A search for feebly-interacting particles in BB decays with missing energy at Belle

We present a search for an invisible hidden-sector particle Xinv X_{\rm{inv}}, produced in B0→Dˉ0XinvB^0 \to \bar{D}^0 X_{\rm{inv}} and B±→hXinvB^\pm\to h X_{\rm{inv}} decays, where h=π±h = π^\pm, K±K^\pm, Ds±D_{s}^\pm, p±p^\pm. The search is performed using e+e−e^+ e^- collision data recorded with the Belle detector, corresponding to 711~fb−1^{-1}. No significant signal is observed. We set 90\% confidence level upper limits ranging between 10−410^{-4} and 10−610^{-6} on the branching fraction B(B→hXinv)\mathcal{B}(B \to h X_{\rm{inv}}) as a function of mXinvm_{ X_{\rm{inv}}}. Corresponding limits are set on B(B→hX)×B(X→γγ)\mathcal{B}(B \to hX)\times\mathcal{B}(X\toγγ) for lifetimes cτXcτ_X between 10 μ10~μm and 10 m. Many of these limits are the first direct constraints on their respective decays. Our results provide the most stringent exclusion limits to date on the branching fractions for all search channels, and exclude previously unexplored regions of parameter space relevant to several new physics models.

Search for an Axion-Like Particle in B→K(∗)a(→γγ)B\rightarrow K^{(*)} a (\rightarrowγγ) Decays at Belle

We report a search for an axion-like particle aa in B→K(∗)a(→γγ)B\rightarrow K^{(*)} a (\rightarrowγγ) decays using data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The search is based on a 711fb−1711 \mathrm{fb^{-1}} data sample collected at the Υ4SΥ4S resonance energy, corresponding to a sample of 772×106772\times10^6 Υ4SΥ4S events. In this study, we search for the decay of the axion-like particle into a pair of photons, a→γγa \rightarrow γγ. We scan the two-photon invariant mass in the range 0.16 GeV/c2−4.50 GeV/c20.16\ \mathrm{GeV/}c^2-4.50\ \mathrm{GeV}/c^2 for the KK modes and 0.16 GeV/c2−4.20 GeV/c20.16\ \mathrm{GeV/}c^2-4.20\ \mathrm{GeV}/c^2 for the K∗K^{*} modes. No significant signal is observed in any of the modes, and 90\% confidence level upper limits are established on the coupling to the WW boson, gaWg_aW, as a function of aa mass. The limits range from 3×10−6GeV−13 \times 10^{-6} \mathrm{GeV}^{-1} to 3×10−5GeV−13 \times 10^{-5} \mathrm{GeV}^{-1}, improving the current constraints on gaWg_aW by a factor of two over the most stringent previous experimental results.

Measurement of branching fractions and direct CPCP asymmetries for B→KπB \to Kπ and B→ππB\toππ decays at Belle II

We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct CP\it{CP} asymmetries of the decays B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+ π^-, B+→K+π0B^+ \to K^+ π^0, B+→K0π+B^+ \to K^0 π^+, and B0→K0π0B^0 \to K^0 π^0, and use these for testing the standard model through an isospin-based sum rule. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct CP\it{CP} asymmetry of the decay B+→π+π0B^+ \to π^+π^0 and the branching fraction of the decay B0→π+π−B^0 \to π^+π^-. The data are collected with the Belle II detector from e+e−e^+e^- collisions at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain 387×106387\times 10^6 bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain −0.03±0.13±0.04-0.03 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.04 for the sum rule, in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations.

Measurement of the B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓB^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} branching ratio and ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| with a fully reconstructed accompanying BB meson in 2019-2021 Belle II data

We present a measurement of the B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓB^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} (ℓ=e,μ\ell=e,μ) branching ratio and of the CKM parameter ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| using signal decays accompanied by a fully reconstructed BB meson. The Belle II data set of electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance, corresponding to 189.3 \,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity, is analyzed. With the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert form factor parameterization, the parameters ηEWF(1)∣Vcb∣η_{\rm EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| and ρ2ρ^{2} are extracted, where ηEWη_{\rm EW} is an electroweak correction, F(1)F(1) is a normalization factor and ρ2ρ^{2} is a form factor shape parameter. We reconstruct 516 signal decays and thereby obtain B(B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓ)=(5.27±0.22 (stat)±0.38 (syst))%\mathcal{B} (B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} ) = \left(5.27 \pm 0.22~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.38~\rm{\left(syst\right)}\right) \%, ηEWF(1)∣Vcb∣×103=34.6±1.8 (stat)±1.7 (syst)η_{EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| \times 10^{3} = 34.6 \pm 1.8~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 1.7~\rm{\left(syst\right)}, and ρ2=0.94±0.18 (stat)±0.11 (syst)ρ^{2} = 0.94 \pm 0.18~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.11~\rm{\left(syst\right)}.

BB-flavor tagging at Belle II

We report on new flavor tagging algorithms developed to determine the quark-flavor content of bottom (BB) mesons at Belle II. The algorithms provide essential inputs for measurements of quark-flavor mixing and charge-parity violation. We validate and evaluate the performance of the algorithms using hadronic BB decays with flavor-specific final states reconstructed in a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 62.862.8 fb−1^{-1}, collected at the ΥΥ(4SS) resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We measure the total effective tagging efficiency to be εeff=(30.0±1.2(stat)±0.4(syst))%\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(30.0 \pm 1.2(\text{stat}) \pm 0.4(\text{syst})\big)\% for a category-based algorithm and εeff=(28.8±1.2(stat)±0.4(syst))%\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(28.8 \pm 1.2(\text{stat}) \pm 0.4(\text{syst})\big)\% for a deep-learning-based algorithm.

Measurement of the cluster position resolution of the Belle II Silicon Vertex Detector

The Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD), with its four double-sided silicon strip sensor layers, is one of the two vertex sub-detectors of Belle II operating at SuperKEKB collider (KEK, Japan). Since 2019 and the start of the data taking, the SVD has demonstrated a reliable and highly efficient operation, even running in an environment with harsh beam backgrounds that are induced by the world's highest instantaneous luminosity. In order to provide the best quality track reconstruction with an efficient pattern recognition and track fit, and to correctly propagate the uncertainty on the hit's position to the track parameters, it is crucial to precisely estimate the resolution of the cluster position measurement. Several methods for estimating the position resolution directly from the data will be discussed.

The Silicon Vertex Detector of the Belle II Experiment

In 2019 the Belle II experiment started data taking at the asymmetric SuperKEKB collider (KEK, Japan) operating at the Y(4S) resonance. Belle II will search for new physics beyond the Standard Model by collecting an integrated luminosity of 50~ab−1^{-1}. The silicon vertex detector (SVD), consisting of four layers of double-sided silicon strip sensors, is one of the two vertex sub-detectors. The SVD extrapolates the tracks to the inner pixel detector (PXD) with enough precision to correctly identify hits in the PXD belonging to the track. In addition the SVD has standalone tracking capability and utilizes ionization to enhance particle identification in the low momentum region. The SVD is operating reliably and with high efficiency, despite exposure to the harsh beam background of the highest peak-luminosity collider ever built. High signal-to-noise ratio and hit efficiency have been measured, as well as the spatial resolution; all these quantities show excellent stability over time. Data-simulation agreement on cluster properties has recently been improved through a careful tuning of the simulation. The precise hit-time resolution can be exploited to reject out-of-time hits induced by beam background, which will make the SVD more robust against higher levels of background. During the first three years of running, radiation damage effects on strip noise, sensor currents and depletion voltage have been observed, as well as some coupling capacitor failure due to intense radiation bursts. None of these effects cause significant degradation in the detector performance.

The reconstruction of tau-pair production, e+e−→τ+τ−e^{+}e^{-} \to τ^{+}τ^{-}, from the subsequent 3-prong (τ+→π+π−π+νˉττ^{+} \rightarrow π^{+} π^{-} π^{+} \barν_τ) and 1-prong (τ−→ℓ−νˉℓνττ^{-} \to \ell^{-} \barν_{\ell} ν_τ, τ−→h−νττ^{-} \to h^{-} ν_τ or τ−→π−π0νττ^{-} \to π^{-} π^0 ν_τ) decays, is presented using 8.8 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data of Belle II at the center-of-mass energy s=mΥ(4S)\sqrt{s} = m_{Υ(4S)}. The pseudomass technique developed by the ARGUS experiment is used to measure the ττ-lepton mass mτm_τ in the 3-prong τ+→π+π−π+νˉττ^{+} \to π^{+} π^{-} π^{+} \barν_τ decay, resulting in mτ=1777.28±0.75 (stat.)±0.33 (sys.) MeV/c2m_τ = 1777.28 \pm 0.75~{\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.33 ~{\rm (sys.)}~{\rm{MeV}/\rm{c}^2}.

Combined analysis of Belle and Belle II data to determine the CKM angle ϕ3 ϕ_{3} using B+→D(KS0h−h+)h+B^+ \to D(K_{S}^0 h^- h^+) h^+ decays

We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle ϕ3 ϕ_{3} (also known as~γγ) using a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis of \linebreak B+→D(KS0h+h−)h+B^+\to D\left(K_{S}^{0}h^{+}h^{-}\right)h^+, where DD is either a D0D^0 or Dˉ0\bar{D}{}^0 meson and hh is either a ππ or KK. This is the first measurement that simultaneously uses Belle and Belle~II data, combining samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of \SI{711}{fb^{-1}} and \SI{128}{fb^{-1}}, respectively. All data were accumulated from energy-asymmetric e+e−e^+e^- collisions at a centre-of-mass energy corresponding to the mass of the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance. We measure ϕ3=(78.4±11.4±0.5±1.0)∘ϕ_3 = \left(78.4 \pm 11.4 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.0 \right)^{\circ}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is from the uncertainties on external measurements of the DD-decay strong-phase parameters.

The limit reduces to B(KS0→μ+μ−)<2.1×10−10{\cal B}(K^0_{\mathrm{S}}\rightarrowμ^{+}μ^{-}) < 2.1 \times 10^{-10} at 90% CL once combined with the result from data taken in 2011 and 2012.

Measurement of the shape of the Bs0→Ds∗−μ+νμB_s^0\rightarrow D_s^{*-}μ^{+}ν_μ differential decay rate

The shape of the Bs0→Ds∗−μ+νμB_s^0\rightarrow D_s^{*-}μ^+ν_μ differential decay rate is obtained as a function of the hadron recoil using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb−1^{-1} collected by the LHCb detector. A calibration of the Belle II hadronic tag-side reconstruction algorithm with B→XℓνB \rightarrow X\ell ν decays

Tag-side reconstruction is an important method for reconstructing BB meson decays with missing energy. The Belle II tag-side reconstruction algorithm, Full Event Interpretation, relies on a hierarchical reconstruction of BB meson decays with multivariate classification employed at each stage of reconstruction. Given the large numbers of classifiers employed and decay chains reconstructed, the performance of the algorithm on data and simulation differs significantly. Here, calibration factors are derived for hadronic tag-side BB decays by measuring a signal side decay, B→XℓνB \rightarrow X\ell ν, in 34.634.6 fb−1^{-1} of Belle II data. For a very loose selection on the tag-side BB multivariate classifier, the calibration factors are 0.65±0.020.65 \pm 0.02 and 0.83±0.030.83 \pm 0.03 for tag-side B+B^{+} and B0B^{0} mesons, respectively.

Amplitude analysis of the B+→π+π+π−B^+ \rightarrow π^+π^+π^- decay

The results of an amplitude analysis of the charmless three-body decay B+→π+π+π−B^+ \rightarrow π^+π^+π^-, in which C ⁣PC\!P-violation effects are taken into account, are reported. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3fb−13 \text{fb}^{-1} of pppp collisions recorded with the LHCb detector. The most challenging aspect of the analysis is the description of the behaviour of the π+π−π^+ π^- S-wave contribution, which is achieved by using three complementary approaches based on the isobar model, the K-matrix formalism, and a quasi-model-independent procedure. Additional resonant contributions for all three methods are described using a common isobar model, and include the ρ(770)0ρ(770)^0, ω(782)ω(782) and ρ(1450)0ρ(1450)^0 resonances in the π+π−π^+π^- P-wave, the f2(1270)f_2(1270) resonance in the π+π−π^+π^- D-wave, and the ρ3(1690)0ρ_3(1690)^0 resonance in the π+π−π^+π^- F-wave. Significant C ⁣PC\!P-violation effects are observed in both S- and D-waves, as well as in the interference between the S- and P-waves. The results from all three approaches agree and provide new insight into the dynamics and the origin of C ⁣PC\!P-violation effects in B+→π+π+π−B^+ \rightarrow π^+π^+π^- decays.

Charmless BB decay reconstruction in 2019 Belle II data

We report on the reconstruction of various charmless BB decays from electron-positron collisions at the energy corresponding to the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use simulation to devise optimized event selections and apply them to the full data set collected in 2019, corresponding to 8.7\,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We fit the difference between half of the collision energy and the BB candidate energy (in the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) frame) for events restricted to a signal-rich range in beam-energy-constrained mass to search for charmless signals. Signal yields of approximately 80, 15, 20, 30, 90, and 160 decays are reconstructed for the channels B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+π^-, B0→π+π−B^0 \to π^+π^-, B+→KS0(→π+π−)π+B^+ \to K^0_S(\to π^+π^-)π^+, B+→K+π0(→γγ)B^+ \to K^+π^0(\to γγ), B+→K+K−K+B^+ \to K^+K^-K^+, and B+→K+π−π+B^+ \to K^+π^-π^+, respectively. Yields and background contaminations are compatible with those expected from simulation and comparable with those obtained by the Belle experiment. The results show a good understanding of the detector performance and offer a reliable basis to assess projections for future reach.

Determination of quantum numbers for several excited charmed mesons observed in B−→D∗+π−π−B^- \to D^{*+} π^- π^- decays

A four-body amplitude analysis of the B−→D∗+π−π−B^- \to D^{*+} π^- π^- decay is performed, where fractions and relative phases of the various resonances contributing to the decay are measured. Several quasi-model-independent analyses are performed aimed at searching for the presence of new states and establishing the quantum numbers of previously observed charmed meson resonances. In particular the resonance parameters and quantum numbers are determined for the D1(2420)D_1(2420), D1(2430)D_1(2430), D0(2550)D_0(2550), D1∗(2600)D^*_1(2600), D2(2740)D_2(2740) and D3∗(2750)D^*_3(2750) states. The mixing between the D1(2420)D_1(2420) and D1(2430)D_1(2430) resonances is studied and the mixing parameters are measured. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1fb^{-1}, collected in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV with the LHCb detector.

First flavor tagging calibration using 2019 Belle II data

We report on the first calibration of the standard Belle II BB-flavor tagger using the full data set collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4{\rm S}) resonance in 2019 with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider, corresponding to 8.7 fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. The calibration is performed by reconstructing various hadronic charmed BB-meson decays with flavor-specific final states. We use simulation to optimize our event selection criteria and to train the flavor tagging algorithm. We determine the tagging efficiency and the fraction of wrongly identified tag-side BB~candidates from a measurement of the time-integrated B0−B‾0B^0-\overline{B}^0 mixing probability. The total effective efficiency is measured to be εeff=(33.8±3.6(stat)±1.6(sys))%\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(33.8 \pm 3.6(\text{stat}) \pm 1.6(\text{sys})\big)\%, which is in good agreement with the predictions from simulation and comparable with the best one obtained by the Belle experiment. The results show a good understanding of the detector performance and offer a basis for future calibrations.

First observation of excited Ωb−Ω_b^- states

We report four narrow peaks in the Ξb0K−Ξ_b^0K^- mass spectrum obtained using pppp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1^{-1} recorded by the LHCb experiment. Referring to these states by their mass, the mass values are \begin{align*} m(Ω_b(6316)^-) &= 6315.64\pm0.31\pm0.07\pm0.50 {\rm MeV}, \\ m(Ω_b(6330)^-) &= 6330.30\pm0.28\pm0.07\pm0.50 {\rm MeV}, \\ m(Ω_b(6340)^-) &= 6339.71\pm0.26\pm0.05\pm0.50 {\rm MeV}, \\ m(Ω_b(6350)^-) &= 6349.88\pm0.35\pm0.05\pm0.50 {\rm MeV}, \end{align*}where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and the last is due to the knowledge of the Ξb0Ξ_b^0 mass. The natural widths of the three lower mass states are consistent with zero, and the 90% confidence-level upper limits are determined to be Γ(Ωb(6316)−)<2.8{Γ(Ω_b(6316)^-)<2.8} MeV, Γ(Ωb(6330)−)<3.1{Γ(Ω_b(6330)^-)<3.1} MeV and Γ(Ωb(6340)−)<1.5{Γ(Ω_b(6340)^-)<1.5} MeV. The natural width of the Ωb(6350)−Ω_b(6350)^- peak is 1.4−0.8+1.0±0.11.4^{+1.0}_{-0.8}\pm0.1 MeV, which is 2.5σσ from zero and corresponds to an upper limit of 2.8 MeV. The peaks have local significances ranging from 3.6σσ to 7.2σσ. After accounting for the look-elsewhere effect, the significances of the Ωb(6316)−Ω_b(6316)^- and Ωb(6330)−Ω_b(6330)^- peaks are reduced to 2.1σσ and 2.6σσ respectively, while the two higher mass peaks exceed 5σσ. The observed peaks are consistent with expectations for excited Ωb−Ω_b^- resonances.

Isospin amplitudes in Λb0→J/ψΛ(Σ0)Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ(Σ^0) and Ξb0→J/ψΞ0(Λ)Ξ_b^0\to J/ψΞ^0(Λ) decays

We present the first results on isospin amplitudes in bb-baryon decays, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb−1^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector in pppp collisions at center of mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. Measurement of ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| with Bs0→Ds(∗)−μ+νμB_s^0 \to D_s^{(*)-} μ^+ ν_μ decays

The element ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix is measured using semileptonic Bs0B_s^0 decays produced in proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1}. Rates of Bs0→Ds−μ+νμB_s^0 \to D_s^{-} μ^+ ν_μ and Bs0→Ds∗−μ+νμB_s^0 \to D_s^{*-} μ^+ ν_μ decays are analyzed using hadronic form-factor parametrizations derived either by Caprini, Lellouch and Neubert (CLN) or by Boyd, Grinstein and Lebed (BGL). The measured values of ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| are (41.4±0.6±0.9±1.2)×10−3{(41.4 \pm 0.6 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.2)\times 10^{-3}} and (42.3±0.8±0.9±1.2)×10−3{(42.3 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.2)\times 10^{-3}} in the CLN and BGL parametrization, respectively. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the external inputs used in the measurement. These results are in agreement with those obtained from decays of B+B^+ and B0B^0 mesons. They are the first determinations of ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| at a hadron-collider experiment and the first using Bs0B_s^0 meson decays.

Measurement of CPCP observables in B±→DK±B^{\pm} \to D K^{\pm} and B±→Dπ±B^{\pm} \to D π^{\pm} with D→KS0K±π∓D \to K_{\rm{S}}^0 K^\pm π^\mp decays

Measurements of CPCP observables in B±→DK±B^\pm \to D K^\pm and B±→Dπ±B^\pm \to D π^\pm decays are presented, where DD represents a superposition of D0D^0 and Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 states. The DD meson is reconstructed in the three-body final state KS0K±π∓K_{\rm{S}}^0K^\pm π^\mp. These measurements are the most precise to date, and provide important input for the determination of the CKM angle γγ.

Measurement of fs/fuf_s / f_u variation with proton-proton collision energy and BB-meson kinematics

The ratio of the Bs0\mathrm{B}^0_\mathrm{s} and B+\mathrm{B}^+ fragmentation fractions fsf_\mathrm{s} and fuf_u is studied with Bs0→J/ψϕB^0_\mathrm{s}\to\mathrm{J}/ψϕ and B+→J/ψK+B^+\to\mathrm{J}/ψK^+ decays using data collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at 7, 8 and 13 TeV\text{ TeV} center-of-mass energies. The analysis is performed in bins of B\mathrm{B}-meson momentum, longitudinal momentum, transverse momentum, pseudorapidity and rapidity. The fragmentation-fraction ratio fs/fuf_\mathrm{s} / f_u is observed to depend on the B\mathrm{B}-meson transverse momentum with a significance of 6.0 σ6.0\,σ. This dependency is driven by the 13 TeV\text{ TeV} sample (8.7 σ8.7\,σ) while the results for the other collision energies are not significant when considered separately. Furthermore the results show a 4.8 σ4.8\,σ evidence for an increase of fs/fuf_\mathrm{s} / f_u as a function of collision energy.

Measurement of CP violation in the Bs0→ϕϕB_s^0\rightarrowϕϕ decay and search for the B0→ϕϕB^0\rightarrow ϕϕ decay

A measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry in Bs0→ϕϕB_s^0\rightarrowϕϕ decays is presented. Using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.05.0fb−1^{-1} collected by the $\mbox{LHCb}$ experiment at centre-of-mass energies s=7\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV in 2011, 8 TeV in 2012 and 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016, a signal yield of around 9000 Bs0→ϕϕB_s^0\rightarrowϕϕ decays is obtained. The CP-violating phase ϕsssˉsϕ_s^{s\bar{s}s} is measured to be −0.073±0.115-0.073 \pm 0.115(stat)±0.027\pm 0.027(syst) rad, under the assumption it is independent on the helicity of the ϕϕϕϕ decay. In addition, the CP-violating phases of the transverse polarisations under the assumption of CP conservation of the longitudinal phase are measured. The helicity-independent direct CP-violation parameter is also measured, and is found to be ∣λ∣=0.99±0.05|λ|=0.99 \pm 0.05 (stat)±0.01 \pm 0.01 (syst). In addition, TT-odd triple-product asymmetries are measured. The results obtained are consistent with the hypothesis of CP conservation in b→sˉssˉb\rightarrow\bar{s}s\bar{s} transitions. Finally, a limit on the branching fraction of the B0→ϕϕB^0\rightarrow ϕϕ decay is determined to be B(B0→ϕϕ)<2.7×10−8\mathcal{B}(B^0\rightarrow ϕϕ)<2.7\times 10^{-8} at 90% confidence level.

Measurement of Hadronic Mass Moments ⟨MXn⟩\langle M_X^n \rangle in B→XcℓνB \rightarrow X_c \ell ν Decays at Belle II

We present measurements of the first six hadronic mass moments in semileptonic B→XcℓνB \rightarrow X_c \ell ν decays. The hadronic mass moments, together with other observables of inclusive BB decays, can be used to determine the CKM matrix element ∣Vcb∣|{V_{cb}}| and mass of the bb-quark mbm_b in the context of Heavy Quark Expansions of QCD. The Belle~II data recorded at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance in 2019 and 2020 (March-July), corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34.6  fb−134.6\;\mathrm{fb}^{-1}, is used for this measurement. The decay Υ(4S)→BB‾Υ(4S) \rightarrow B \overline{B} is reconstructed by applying the hadronic tagging algorithm provided by the Full Event Interpretation to fully reconstruct one BB meson. The second BB meson is reconstructed inclusively by selecting a high-momentum lepton. The XcX_c system is identified by the remaining reconstructed tracks and clusters in the electromagnetic calorimeter. We report preliminary results for the hadronic mass moments ⟨MXn⟩\langle M_X^n \rangle with n=1,…,6n=1,\dots,6, measured as a function of a lower cut on the lepton momentum in the signal BB rest frame.

Measurement of the B0B^0 lifetime using fully reconstructed hadronic decays in the 2019 Belle II dataset

This document presents the measurement of B0B^0 meson lifetimes using the 2019 Belle II dataset that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 8.7±0.28.7 \pm 0.2 fb−1^{-1}. Each candidate is fully reconstructed with hadronic decay final states on the signal side, while the rest-of-event technique allows to infer the decay vertex position on the other (tag) side. B0B^0 lifetime is extracted from an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the distribution of the difference between the signal side B0B^0 candidate and the tag side decay times. The measured lifetime is τB0=1.48±0.28±0.06τ_{B^0} = 1.48 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.06 ps, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Measurement of the ηc(1S)η_c(1S) production cross-section in pppp collisions at s=13\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb−12.0\,fb^{-1}, collected by the LHCb experiment, the production of the ηc(1S)η_c(1S) state in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV\sqrt{s}=13 \text{ TeV} is studied in the rapidity range 2.0<y<4.5{2.0 < y < 4.5} and in the transverse momentum range 6.5<pT<14.0 GeV{6.5 < p_{T} < 14.0\text{ GeV}}. The cross-section for prompt production of ηc(1S)η_c(1S) mesons relative to that of the J/ψJ/ψ meson is measured using the ppˉ{p\bar{p}} decay mode and is found to be σηc(1S)/σJ/ψ=1.69±0.15±0.10±0.18{σ_{η_c(1S)}/σ_{J/ψ} = 1.69 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.18}. The quoted uncertainties are, in order, statistical, systematic and due to uncertainties on the branching fractions of the J/ψ→ppˉ{J/ψ\to p \bar{p}} and ηc→ppˉ{η_c\to p \bar{p}} decays. The prompt ηc(1S)η_c(1S) production cross-section is determined to be σηc(1S)=1.26±0.11±0.08±0.14 μb{σ_{η_c(1S)} = 1.26 \pm 0.11\pm 0.08 \pm 0.14 \,μb}, where the last uncertainty includes that on the J/ψ{J/ψ} meson cross-section. The ratio of the branching fractions of bb-hadron decays to the ηc(1S)η_c(1S) and J/ψ{J/ψ} states is measured to be Bb→ηcX/Bb→J/ψX=0.48±0.03±0.03±0.05{\mathcal{B}_{b\toη_c X}/\mathcal{B}_{b\to J/ψX} = 0.48 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.05}, where the last uncertainty is due to those on the branching fractions of the J/ψ→ppˉ{J/ψ\to p \bar{p}} and ηc→ppˉ{η_c\to p \bar{p}} decays. The difference between the J/ψ{J/ψ} and ηc(1S)η_c(1S) masses is also determined to be 113.0±0.7±0.1 MeV{113.0 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.1\text{ MeV}}, which is the most precise single measurement of this quantity to date.

Measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries in charmless BB decays reconstructed in 2019--2020 Belle~II data

We report on first measurements of branching fractions~(B\mathcal{B}) and CP-violating charge asymmetries~(A\mathcal{A}) in charmless BB decays at Belle~II. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions collected in 2019 and 2020 at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance and corresponding to 34.634.6\,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We use simulation to determine optimized event selections. The ΔEΔE distributions of the resulting samples, restricted in MbcM_{\rm bc}, are fit to determine signal yields. Signal yields are corrected for efficiencies determined from simulation and control data samples to obtain branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries for flavour-specific channels. These are the first measurements in charmless decays reported by Belle~II. Results are compatible with known determinations and show detector performance comparable with the best Belle results offering a reliable basis to assess projections for future reach.

Observation of a new baryon state in the Λb0π+π−Λ_b^0π^+π^- mass spectrum

A new baryon state is observed in the Λb0π+π−Λ_b^0π^+π^- mass spectrum with high significance using a data sample of pppp collisions, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies s=7,8\sqrt{s}=7, 8 and 13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb−1^{-1}. The mass and natural width of the new state are measured to be \begin{eqnarray*} m & = & 6072.3 \pm 2.9 \pm 0.6 \pm 0.2 MeV\,, Γ& = & 72 \pm 11 \pm 2 MeV\,, \end{eqnarray*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The third uncertainty for the mass is due to imprecise knowledge of the Λb0Λ_b^0 baryon mass. The new state is consistent with the first radial excitation of the Λb0Λ_b^0 baryon, the Λb(2S)0Λ_b(2S)^0 resonance. Updated measurements of the masses and the upper limits on the natural widths of the previously observed Λb(5912)0Λ_b(5912)^0 and Λb(5920)0Λ_b(5920)^0 states are also reported.

A study of the structure suggests its interpretation as a superposition of two almost degenerate narrow states. Observation of several sources of CPCP violation in B+→π+π+π−B^+ \to π^+ π^+ π^- decays

Observations are reported of different sources of CPCP violation from an amplitude analysis of B+→π+π+π−B^+ \to π^+ π^+ π^- decays, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3  fb−13 \; {\rm fb}^{-1} of pppp collisions recorded with the LHCb detector. A large CPCP asymmetry is observed in the decay amplitude involving the tensor f2(1270)f_2(1270) resonance, and in addition significant CPCP violation is found in the π+π−π^+ π^- S-wave at low invariant mass. The presence of CPCP violation related to interference between the π+π−π^+ π^- S-wave and the P-wave B+→ρ(770)0π+B^+ \to ρ(770)^0 π^+ amplitude is also established; this causes large local asymmetries but cancels when integrated over the phase space of the decay. The results provide both qualitative and quantitative new insights into CPCP-violation effects in hadronic BB decays.

The prompt-like A′A' search explores the mass region from near the dimuon threshold up to 70 GeV, and places the most stringent constraints to date on dark photons with 214<m(A′)≲740214 < m(A') \lesssim 740 MeV and 10.6<m(A′)≲3010.6 < m(A') \lesssim 30 GeV. Search for C ⁣PC\!P violation and observation of PP violation in Λb0→pπ−π+π−Λ_b^0 \to p π^- π^+ π^- decays

A search for C ⁣PC\!P violation in the Λb0→pπ−π+π−Λ_b^0 \to p π^- π^+ π^- decay is performed using LHCb data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.6 fb−1\,fb^{-1} collected in pppp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV\,Te\kern -0.1em V. The analysis uses both triple product asymmetries and the unbinned energy test method. The highest significances of C ⁣PC\!P asymmetry are 2.9 standard deviations from triple product asymmetries and 3.0 standard deviations for the energy test method. Once the global pp-value is considered, all results are consistent with no C ⁣PC\!P violation. Parity violation is observed at a significance of 5.55.5 standard deviations for the triple product asymmetry method and 5.35.3 standard deviations for the energy test method.

Search for an invisibly decaying Z′Z^{\prime} boson at Belle II in e+e−→μ+μ−(e±μ∓)e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- (e^{\pm} μ^{\mp}) plus missing energy final states

Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the Z′Z^{\prime}. Using data collected by the Belle II experiment during 2018 at the SuperKEKB collider, we perform the first searches for the invisible decay of a Z′Z^{\prime} in the process e+e−→μ+μ−Z′e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- Z^{\prime} and of a lepton-flavor-violating Z′Z^{\prime} in e+e−→e±μ∓Z′e^+ e^- \to e^{\pm} μ^{\mp} Z^{\prime}. We do not find any excess of events and set 90\% credibility level upper limits on the cross sections of these processes. We translate the former, in the framework of an Lμ−LτL_μ-L_τ theory, into upper limits on the Z′Z^{\prime} coupling constant at the level of 5×10−25 \times 10^{-2} -- 11 MZ′≤6M_{Z^\prime}\leq 6 GeV/c2c^2.

Search for the lepton flavour violating decay B+→K+μ−τ+B^+ \rightarrow K^+ μ^- τ^+ using Bs2∗0B_{s2}^{*0} decays

A search is presented for the lepton flavour violating decay B+→K+μ−τ+B^+ \rightarrow K^+ μ^- τ^+ using a sample of proton--proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1{}^{-1}. The ττ leptons are selected inclusively, primarily via decays with a single charged particle. The four-momentum of the ττ lepton is determined by using B+B^+ mesons from Bs2∗0→B+K−B_{s2}^{*0} \rightarrow B^+ K^- decays. No significant excess is observed, and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction B(B+→K+μ−τ+)<3.9×10−5B(B^+ \rightarrow K^+ μ^- τ^+) < 3.9 \times 10^{-5} at 90% confidence level. The obtained limit is comparable to the world-best limit.

Studies of the semileptonic Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉℓ\bar B^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\barν_\ell and B−→D0ℓ−νˉℓB^-\to D^{0}\ell^-\barν_\ell decay processes with 34.6 fb−1^{-1} of Belle II data

We report measurements of the Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l and B−→D0ℓ−νˉlB^- \to D^{0} \ell^{-} \barν_l processes using 34.6 fb−1^{-1} of collision events recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. For the B−→D0ℓ−νˉℓB^-\to D^{0}\ell^-\barν_\ell channel, we present first studies that isolate this decay from other semileptonic processes and backgrounds. We report a measurement of the Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l branching fraction and obtain B(Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl)=(4.60±0.05stat±0.17syst±0.45πs)%{\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l) = \left(4.60 \pm 0.05_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm0.17_{\mathrm{syst}} \pm 0.45_{π_s}\right) \%, in agreement with the world average. Here, the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and related to slow pion reconstruction, respectively. The systematic uncertainties are limited by the statistics of auxiliary measurements and will improve in the future. We also report differential branching fractions in five bins of the hadronic recoil parameter ww for Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l, unfolded to account for resolution and efficiency effects.

Study of ΥΥ production in ppPb collisions at sNN=8.16\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8.16 TeV

The production of Υ(nS)Υ(nS) mesons (n=1,2,3n=1,2,3) in ppPb and Pbpp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sNN=8.16\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8.16 TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 31.8 nb−1^{-1}. The Υ(nS)Υ(nS) mesons are reconstructed through their decays into two opposite-sign muons. The measurements comprise the differential production cross-sections of the Υ(1S)Υ(1S) and Υ(2S)Υ(2S) states, their forward-to-backward ratios and nuclear modification factors, performed as a function of the transverse momentum \pt and rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass frame y∗y^* of the Υ(nS)Υ(nS) states, in the kinematic range pT<25p_{\rm{T}}<25 GeV/cc and 1.5<y∗<4.01.5<y^*<4.0 (−5.0<y∗<−2.5-5.0<y^*<-2.5) for ppPb (Pbpp) collisions. In addition, production cross-sections for Υ(3S)Υ(3S) are measured integrated over phase space and the production ratios between all three Υ(nS)Υ(nS) states are determined. The measurements are compared to theoretical predictions and suppressions for quarkonium in ppPb collisions are observed.

In the dilepton mass-squared range 0.1<q2<6.00.1 < q^{2} < 6.0 GeV2/c4GeV^{2}/c^{4} and the pK−pK^{-} mass range m(pK−)<2600m(pK^{-}) < 2600 MeV/c2MeV/c^{2}, the ratio of branching fractions is measured to be RpK−1=1.17−0.16+0.18±0.07R^{-1}_{pK} = 1.17 ^{+0.18}_{-0.16} \pm 0.07, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Updated measurement of decay-time-dependent CP asymmetries in D0→K+K−D^0 \to K^+K^- and D0→π+π−D^0 \to π^+π^- decays

A search for decay-time-dependent charge-parity (CPCP) asymmetry in D0→K+K−D^0 \to K^+K^- and D0→π+π−D^0 \to π^+π^- decays is performed at the LHCb experiment using proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4fb−1^{-1}. The D0D^0 mesons are required to originate from semileptonic decays of bb hadrons, such that the charge of the muon identifies the flavor of the neutral DD meson at production. The asymmetries in the effective decay widths of D0D^0 and D‾0\overline{D}^0 mesons are determined to be AΓ(K+K−)=(−4.3±3.6±0.5)×10−4A_Γ(K^+K^-) = ( -4.3 \pm 3.6 \pm 0.5 )\times 10^{-4} and AΓ(π+π−)=(2.2±7.0±0.8)×10−4A_Γ(π^+π^-) = ( 2.2 \pm 7.0 \pm 0.8)\times 10^{-4}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The results are consistent with CPCP symmetry and, when combined with previous LHCb results, yield AΓ(K+K−)=(−4.4±2.3±0.6)×10−4A_Γ(K^+K^-) = ( -4.4 \pm 2.3 \pm 0.6 )\times 10^{-4} and AΓ(π+π−)=(2.5±4.3±0.7)×10−4A_Γ(π^+π^-) = ( 2.5 \pm 4.3 \pm 0.7)\times 10^{-4}.

Updated measurement of time-dependent CPCP-violating observables in Bs0→J/ψK+K−B^{0}_{s}\to J/ψK^+ K^- decays

The decay-time-dependent CPCP asymmetry in Bs0→J/ψK+K−B^{0}_{s}\to J/ψK^{+} K^{-} decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 fb−11.9\,\mathrm{fb^{-1}}, collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV13\,\mathrm{TeV} in 2015 and 2016. Using a sample of approximately 117\,000 signal decays with an invariant K+K−K^{+} K^{-} mass in the vicinity of the ϕ(1020)ϕ(1020) resonance, the CPCP-violating phase ϕsϕ_s is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the Bs0B^{0}_{s}-Bˉs0\bar{B}^{0}_{s} system, ΔΓsΔΓ_s. The difference of the average Bs0B^{0}_{s} and B0B^{0} meson decay widths, Γs−ΓdΓ_s-Γ_d, is determined using in addition a sample of B0→J/ψK+π−B^{0} \to J/ψK^{+} π^{-} decays. The values obtained are ϕs=−0.083±0.041±0.006 radϕ_s = -0.083\pm0.041\pm0.006\,\mathrm{rad}, ΔΓs=0.077±0.008±0.003 ps−1ΔΓ_s = 0.077 \pm 0.008 \pm 0.003\, \mathrm{ps^{-1}} and Γs−Γd=−0.0041±0.0024±0.0015 ps−1Γ_s-Γ_d = -0.0041 \pm 0.0024 \pm 0.0015\,\mathrm{ps^{-1}}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements of these quantities to date and are consistent with expectations based on the Standard Model and with a previous LHCb analysis of this decay using data recorded at centre-of-mass energies 7 and 8 TeV. Finally, the results are combined with recent results from Bs0→J/ψπ+π−B^{0}_{s}\to J/ψπ^{+} π^{-} decays obtained using the same dataset as this analysis, and with previous independent LHCb results.

A model-independent confirmation of the Z(4430)−Z(4430)^- state

The decay B0→ψ(2S)K+π−B^0\to ψ(2S) K^+π^- is analyzed using 3 fb−1\rm 3~fb^{-1} of pppp collision data collected with the LHCb detector. A model-independent description of the ψ(2S)πψ(2S) π mass spectrum is obtained, using as input the KπKπ mass spectrum and angular distribution derived directly from data, without requiring a theoretical description of resonance shapes or their interference. The hypothesis that the ψ(2S)πψ(2S)π mass spectrum can be described in terms of KπKπ reflections alone is rejected with more than 8σσ significance. This provides confirmation, in a model-independent way, of the need for an additional resonant component in the mass region of the Z(4430)−Z(4430)^- exotic state.

A new algorithm for identifying the flavour of Bs0B_s^0 mesons at LHCb

A new algorithm for the determination of the initial flavour of Bs0B_s^0 mesons is presented. The algorithm is based on two neural networks and exploits the bb hadron production mechanism at a hadron collider. The first network is trained to select charged kaons produced in association with the Bs0B_s^0 meson. The second network combines the kaon charges to assign the Bs0B_s^0 flavour and estimates the probability of a wrong assignment. The algorithm is calibrated using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV centre-of-mass energies. The calibration is performed in two ways: by resolving the Bs0B_s^0-Bˉs0\bar{B}_s^0 flavour oscillations in Bs0→Ds−π+B_s^0 \to D_s^- π^+ decays, and by analysing flavour-specific Bs2∗(5840)0→B+K−B_{s 2}^{*}(5840)^0 \to B^+ K^- decays. The tagging power measured in Bs0→Ds−π+B_s^0 \to D_s^- π^+ decays is found to be (1.80±0.19(stat)±0.18(syst))(1.80 \pm 0.19({\rm stat}) \pm 0.18({\rm syst}))\%, which is an improvement of about 50\% compared to a similar algorithm previously used in the LHCb experiment.

A precise measurement of the B0B^0 meson oscillation frequency

A combination of the two decay modes gives Δmd=(505.0±2.1±1.0) ns−1Δm_d = (505.0 \pm 2.1 \pm 1.0) \rm \,ns^{-1}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Amplitude analysis of B−→D+π−π−B^{-} \to D^{+} π^{-} π^{-} decays

The Dalitz plot analysis technique is used to study the resonant substructures of B−→D+π−π−B^{-} \to D^{+} π^{-} π^{-} decays in a data sample corresponding to 3.0 fb−1{\rm fb}^{-1} of pppp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. A model-independent analysis of the angular moments demonstrates the presence of resonances with spins 1, 2 and 3 at high D+π−D^{+}π^{-} mass. The data are fitted with an amplitude model composed of a quasi-model-independent function to describe the D+π−D^{+}π^{-} S-wave together with virtual contributions from the D∗(2007)0D^{*}(2007)^{0} and B∗0B^{*0} states, and components corresponding to the D2∗(2460)0D^{*}_{2}(2460)^{0}, D1∗(2680)0D^{*}_{1}(2680)^{0}, D3∗(2760)0D^{*}_{3}(2760)^{0} and D2∗(3000)0D^{*}_{2}(3000)^{0} resonances. The masses and widths of these resonances are determined together with the branching fractions for their production in B−→D+π−π−B^{-} \to D^{+} π^{-} π^{-} decays. The D+π−D^{+}π^{-} S-wave has phase motion consistent with that expected due to the presence of the D0∗(2400)0D^{*}_{0}(2400)^{0} state. These results constitute the first observations of the D3∗(2760)0D^{*}_{3}(2760)^{0} and D2∗(3000)0D^{*}_{2}(3000)^{0} resonances.

Angular analysis of the B0→K∗0μ+μ−B^{0}\rightarrow K^{*0}μ^{+}μ^{-} decay using $3\,\mbox{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity

An angular analysis of the B0→K∗0(→K+π−)μ+μ−B^{0}\rightarrow K^{*0}(\rightarrow K^{+}π^{-})μ^{+}μ^{-} decay is presented. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $3.0\,{\mbox{fb}^{-1}}$ of pppp collision data collected at the LHCb experiment. The complete angular information from the decay is used to determine C ⁣PC\!P-averaged observables and C ⁣PC\!P asymmetries, taking account of possible contamination from decays with the K+π−K^{+}π^{-} system in an S-wave configuration. The angular observables and their correlations are reported in bins of q2q^2, the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system. The observables are determined both from an unbinned maximum likelihood fit and by using the principal moments of the angular distribution. In addition, by fitting for q2q^2-dependent decay amplitudes in the region 1.1<q2<6.0 GeV2/c41.1<q^{2}<6.0\mathrm{\,Ge\kern -0.1em V}^{2}/c^{4}, the zero-crossing points of several angular observables are computed. A global fit is performed to the complete set of C ⁣PC\!P-averaged observables obtained from the maximum likelihood fit. This fit indicates differences with predictions based on the Standard Model at the level of 3.4 standard deviations. These differences could be explained by contributions from physics beyond the Standard Model, or by an unexpectedly large hadronic effect that is not accounted for in the Standard Model predictions.

The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to 3.0 fb−13.0\,{\rm fb}^{-1} of pppp collisions collected with the LHCb detector. Evidence for exotic hadron contributions to Λb0→J/ψpπ−Λ_b^0 \to J/ψp π^- decays

A full amplitude analysis of Λb0→J/ψpπ−Λ_b^0 \to J/ψp π^- decays is performed with a data sample acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8 TeV pppp collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1}. A significantly better description of the data is achieved when, in addition to the previously observed nucleon excitations N→pπ−N\to pπ^-, either the Pc(4380)+P_c(4380)^+ and Pc(4450)+→J/ψpP_c(4450)^+\to J/ψp states, previously observed in Λb0→J/ψpK−Λ_b^0 \to J/ψp K^- decays, or the Zc(4200)−→J/ψπ−Z_c(4200)^-\to J/ψπ^- state, previously reported in B0→J/ψK+π−B^0 \to J/ψK^+ π^- decays, or all three, are included in the amplitude models. The data support a model containing all three exotic states, with a significance of more than three standard deviations. Within uncertainties, the data are consistent with the Pc(4380)+P_c(4380)^+ and Pc(4450)+P_c(4450)^+ production rates expected from their previous observation taking account of Cabibbo suppression.

The signal significance is 8 σ8\,σ and the branching fraction is measured to be B(B+→D+K+π−)=(5.31±0.90±0.48±0.35)×10−6{\cal B}\left(B^{+}\to D^{+} K^{+} π^{-}\right) = (5.31 \pm 0.90 \pm 0.48 \pm 0.35)\times 10^{-6}, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the normalisation mode B+→D−K+π+B^{+}\to D^{-} K^{+} π^{+}, respectively. The Dalitz plot appears to be dominated by broad structures. Angular distributions are exploited to search for quasi-two-body contributions from B+→D2∗(2460)0K+B^{+}\to D^{*}_{2}(2460)^{0}K^{+} and B+→D+K∗(892)0B^{+}\to D^{+} K^{*}(892)^{0} decays. No significant signals are observed and upper limits are set on their branching fractions.

Measurements of C ⁣PC\!P observables in B±→DK±B^\pm \rightarrow D K^\pm and B±→Dπ±B^\pm \rightarrow D π^\pm decays are presented where the DD meson is reconstructed in the final states K±π∓K^\pmπ^\mp, π±K∓π^\pm K^\mp, K+K−K^+K^-, π+π−π^+π^-, K±π∓π+π−K^\pmπ^\mp π^+ π^-, π±K∓π+π−π^\pm K^\mp π^+ π^- and π+π−π+π−π^+ π^- π^+ π^-. This analysis uses a sample of charged BB mesons from pppp collisions collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011 and 2012, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1^{-1}. Various \CP-violating effects are reported and together these measurements provide important input for the determination of the unitarity triangle angle γγ. The analysis of the four-pion DD decay mode is the first of its kind.

Measurement of forward W→eνW\to eν production in pppp collisions at s=8 \sqrt{s}=8\,TeV

A measurement of the cross-section for W→eνW \to eν production in pppp collisions is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 2\,fb−1^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s=8 \sqrt{s}=8\,TeV. The electrons are required to have more than 20 20\,GeV of transverse momentum and to lie between 2.00 and 4.25 in pseudorapidity. The inclusive WW production cross-sections, where the WW decays to eνeν, are measured to be \begin{equation*} σ_{W^{+} \to e^{+}ν_{e}}=1124.4\pm 2.1\pm 21.5\pm 11.2\pm 13.0\,\mathrm{pb}, \end{equation*} \begin{equation*} σ_{W^{-} \to e^{-}\barν_{e}}=\,\,\,809.0\pm 1.9\pm 18.1\pm\,\,\,7.0\pm \phantom{0}9.4\,\mathrm{pb}, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, the third are due to the knowledge of the LHC beam energy and the fourth are due to the luminosity determination. Differential cross-sections as a function of the electron pseudorapidity are measured. The W+/W−W^{+}/W^{-} cross-section ratio and production charge asymmetry are also reported. Results are compared with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. Finally, in a precise test of lepton universality, the ratio of WW boson branching fractions is determined to be \begin{equation*} \mathcal{B}(W \to eν)/\mathcal{B}(W \to μν)=1.020\pm 0.002\pm 0.019, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Measurement of forward WW and ZZ boson production in pppp collisions at s=8 TeV\sqrt{s} = 8\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}

Measurements are presented of electroweak boson production using data from pppp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=8 TeV\sqrt{s} = 8\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}. The analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb−12.0\mathrm{\,fb}^{-1} recorded with the LHCb detector. The bosons are identified in the W→μνW\rightarrowμν and Z→μ+μ−Z\rightarrowμ^{+}μ^{-} decay channels. The cross-sections are measured for muons in the pseudorapidity range 2.0<η<4.52.0 < η< 4.5, with transverse momenta pT>20 GeV ⁣/cp_{\rm T} > 20{\mathrm{\,Ge\kern -0.1em V\!/}c} and, in the case of the ZZ boson, a dimuon mass within 60<Mμ+μ−<120 GeV ⁣/c260 < M_{μ^{+}μ^{-}} < 120{\mathrm{\,Ge\kern -0.1em V\!/}c^{2}}. The results are \begin{align*} σ_{W^{+}\rightarrowμ^{+}ν} &= 1093.6 \pm 2.1 \pm 7.2 \pm 10.9 \pm 12.7{\rm \,pb} \, , σ_{W^{-}\rightarrowμ^{-}\barν} &= \phantom{0}818.4 \pm 1.9 \pm 5.0 \pm \phantom{0}7.0 \pm \phantom{0}9.5{\rm \,pb} \, , σ_{Z\rightarrowμ^{+}μ^{-}} &= \phantom{00}95.0 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.7 \pm \phantom{0}1.1 \pm \phantom{0}1.1{\rm \,pb} \, , \end{align*} where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, the third are due to the knowledge of the LHC beam energy and the fourth are due to the luminosity determination. The evolution of the WW and ZZ boson cross-sections with centre-of-mass energy is studied using previously reported measurements with 1.0 fb−11.0\mathrm{\,fb}^{-1} of data at 7 TeV7\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}. Differential distributions are also presented. Results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics.

Measurement of forward WW and ZZ boson production in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at s=8\sqrt{s}=8 TeV

The production of WW and ZZ bosons in association with jets is studied in the forward region of proton-proton collisions collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.98 ±\pm 0.02 fb−1^{-1}. The WW boson is identified using its decay to a muon and a neutrino, while the ZZ boson is identified through its decay to a muon pair. Total cross-sections are measured and combined into charge ratios, asymmetries, and ratios of W+W+jet and ZZ+jet production cross-sections. Differential measurements are also performed as a function of both boson and jet kinematic variables. All results are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.

Measurement of the CKM angle γγ from a combination of LHCb results

A combination of measurements sensitive to the CKM angle γγ from LHCb is performed. The inputs are from analyses of time-integrated B+→DK+B^{+}\rightarrow DK^+, B0→DK∗0B^{0} \rightarrow D K^{*0}, B0→DK+π−B^{0} \rightarrow D K^+ π^- and B+→DK+π+π−B^{+} \rightarrow D K^+π^+π^- tree-level decays. In addition, results from a time-dependent analysis of Bs0→Ds∓K±B_{s}^{0} \rightarrow D_{s}^{\mp}K^{\pm} decays are included. The combination yields γ=(72.2−7.3+6.8)∘γ= (72.2^{+6.8}_{-7.3})^\circ, where the uncertainty includes systematic effects. The 95.5% confidence level interval is determined to be γ∈[55.9,85.2]∘γ\in [55.9,85.2]^\circ. A second combination is investigated, also including measurements from B+→Dπ+B^{+} \rightarrow D π^+ and B+→Dπ+π−π+B^{+} \rightarrow D π^+π^-π^+ decays, which yields compatible results.

Measurement of the difference of time-integrated CP asymmetries in D0→K−K+D^0 \rightarrow K^{-} K^{+} and D0→π−π+D^0 \rightarrow π^{-} π^{+} decays

A search for CP violation in D0→K−K+D^0 \rightarrow K^{-} K^{+} and D0→π−π+D^0 \rightarrow π^{-} π^{+} decays is performed using pppp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−13~fb^{-1}, collected using the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 8~TeV. Measurement of the mass and lifetime of the Ωb−Ω_b^- baryon

A proton-proton collision data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1} collected by LHCb at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 and 8 TeV, is used to reconstruct 63±963\pm9 Ωb−→Ωc0π−Ω_b^-\toΩ_c^0π^-, Ωc0→pK−K−π+Ω_c^0\to pK^-K^-π^+ decays. Using the Ξb−→Ξc0π−Ξ_b^-\toΞ_c^0π^-, Ξc0→pK−K−π+Ξ_c^0\to pK^-K^-π^+ decay mode for calibration, the lifetime ratio and absolute lifetime of the Ωb−Ω_b^- baryon are measured to be \begin{align*} \frac{τ_{Ω_b^-}}{τ_{Ξ_b^-}} &= 1.11\pm0.16\pm0.03, \\ τ_{Ω_b^-} &= 1.78\pm0.26\pm0.05\pm0.06~{\rm ps}, \end{align*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and from the calibration mode (for τΩb−τ_{Ω_b^-} only). A measurement is also made of the mass difference, mΩb−−mΞb−m_{Ω_b^-}-m_{Ξ_b^-}, and the corresponding Ωb−Ω_b^- mass, which yields \begin{align*} m_{Ω_b^-}-m_{Ξ_b^-} &= 247.4\pm3.2\pm0.5~{\rm MeV}/c^2, \\ m_{Ω_b^-} &= 6045.1\pm3.2\pm 0.5\pm0.6~{\rm MeV}/c^2. \end{align*} These results are consistent with previous measurements.

Measurement of the properties of the Ξb∗0Ξ_b^{*0} baryon

We perform a search for near-threshold Ξb0Ξ_b^0 resonances decaying to Ξb−π+Ξ_b^- π^+ in a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment. We observe one resonant state, with the following properties: \begin{eqnarray*} m(Ξ_b^{*0}) - m(Ξ_b^-) - m(π^+) &=& 15.727 \pm 0.068 \, (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.023 \, (\mathrm{syst}) \, \mathrm{MeV}/c^2, Γ(Ξ_b^{*0}) &=& 0.90 \pm 0.16 \, (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.08 \, (\mathrm{syst}) \, \mathrm{MeV} . \end{eqnarray*} This confirms the previous observation by the CMS collaboration. The state is consistent with the JP=3/2+J^P=3/2^+ Ξb∗0Ξ_b^{*0} resonance expected in the quark model. This is the most precise determination of the mass and the first measurement of the natural width of this state. We have also measured the ratio \begin{align*} \frac{σ(pp \to Ξ_b^{*0} X){\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^{*0} \to Ξ_b^- π^+)}{σ(pp \to Ξ_b^- X)} = 0.28 \pm 0.03 \, (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.01 \, (\mathrm{syst}) . \end{align*}

Measurements of long-range near-side angular correlations in sNN=5\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}=5TeV proton-lead collisions in the forward region

Two-particle angular correlations are studied in proton-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of sNN=5\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}=5TeV, collected with the LHCb detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on data recorded in two beam configurations, in which either the direction of the proton or that of the lead ion is analysed. The correlations are measured in the laboratory system as a function of relative pseudorapidity, ΔηΔη, and relative azimuthal angle, ΔϕΔϕ, for events in different classes of event activity and for different bins of particle transverse momentum. In high-activity events a long-range correlation on the near side, Δϕ≈0Δϕ\approx 0, is observed in the pseudorapidity range 2.0<η<4.92.0<η<4.9. This measurement of long-range correlations on the near side in proton-lead collisions extends previous observations into the forward region up to η=4.9η=4.9. The correlation increases with growing event activity and is found to be more pronounced in the direction of the lead beam. However, the correlation in the direction of the lead and proton beams are found to be compatible when comparing events with similar absolute activity in the direction analysed.

Model-independent evidence for J/ψpJ/ψp contributions to Λb0→J/ψpK−Λ_b^0\to J/ψp K^- decays

The data sample of Λb0→J/ψpK−Λ_b^0\to J/ψp K^- decays acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8~TeV pppp collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1}, is inspected for the presence of J/ψpJ/ψp or J/ψK−J/ψK^- contributions with minimal assumptions about K−pK^- p contributions. It is demonstrated at more than 9 standard deviations that Λb0→J/ψpK−Λ_b^0\to J/ψp K^- decays cannot be described with K−pK^- p contributions alone, and that J/ψpJ/ψp contributions play a dominant role in this incompatibility. These model-independent results support the previously obtained model-dependent evidence for Pc+→J/ψpP_c^+\to J/ψp charmonium-pentaquark states in the same data sample.

A search is performed for the charmless three-body decays of the Λb0Λ_b^0 and Ξb0Ξ_b^0 baryons to the final states Λh+h′−Λh^+h^{\prime -}, where h(′)=πh^{(\prime)} = π or KK. The analysis is based on a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3fb−13 \rm fb^{-1} of pppp collisions, collected by the LHCb experiment. The Λb0→ΛK+π−Λ_b^0 \to ΛK^+π^- and Λb0→ΛK+K−Λ_b^0 \to ΛK^+K^- decays are observed for the first time and their branching fractions and CPCP asymmetry parameters are measured. Production of associated ΥΥ and open charm hadrons in pppp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 and 88TeV via double parton scattering

Associated production of bottomonia and open charm hadrons in pppp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 and 88TeV is observed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3fb−1fb^{-1} accumulated with the LHCb detector. The observation of five combinations, Υ(1S)D0Υ(1S)D^0, Υ(2S)D0Υ(2S)D^0, Υ(1S)D+Υ(1S)D^+, Υ(2S)D+Υ(2S)D^+ and Υ(1S)Ds+Υ(1S)D^+_{s}, is reported. Production cross-sections are measured for Υ(1S)D0Υ(1S)D^0 and Υ(1S)D+Υ(1S)D^+ pairs in the forward region. The measured cross-sections and the differential distributions indicate the dominance of double parton scattering as the main production mechanism. This allows a precise measurement of the effective cross-section for double parton scattering.

Search for long-lived heavy charged particles using a ring imaging Cherenkov technique at LHCb

A search is performed for heavy long-lived charged particles using 3.0 fb−1^{-1} of pp collisions collected at s\sqrt{s}= 7 and 8 TeV with the LHCb detector. The search is mainly based on the response of the ring imaging Cherenkovdetectors to distinguish the heavy, slow-moving particles from muons. No evidence is found for the production of such long-lived states. The results are expressed as limits on the Drell-Yan production of pairs of long-lived particles, with both particles in the LHCb pseudorapidity acceptance, 1.8<η<4.91.8 < η< 4.9. The mass-dependent cross-section upper limits are in the range 2-4 fb (at 95\% CL) for masses between 124 and 309 GeV/c2^2.

Search for violations of Lorentz invariance and CPT CPT symmetry in B(s)0 B^0_{(s)} mixing

Violations of CPT CPT symmetry and Lorentz invariance are searched for by studying interference effects in B0 B^0 mixing and in Bs0 B^0_s mixing. Samples of B0→J/ψKS0 B^0\to J/ψK^0_{\mathrm{S}} and Bs0→J/ψK+K− B^0_s\to J/ψK^+ K^- decays are recorded by the LHCb detector in proton--proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1}. No periodic variations of the particle-antiparticle mass differences are found, consistent with Lorentz invariance and CPT CPT symmetry. Results are expressed in terms of the Standard Model Extension parameter ΔaμΔa_μ with precisions of O(10−15) \mathcal{O}(10^{-15}) and O(10−14) \mathcal{O}(10^{-14}) GeV for the B0 B^0 and Bs0 B^0_s systems, respectively. With no assumption on Lorentz (non-)invariance, the CPT CPT-violating parameter zz in the Bs0 B^0_s system is measured for the first time and found to be Re(z)=−0.022±0.033±0.005 \mathcal{R}e(z) = -0.022 \pm 0.033 \pm 0.005 and Im(z)=0.004±0.011±0.002 \mathcal{I}m(z) = 0.004 \pm 0.011\pm 0.002, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Studies of the resonance structure in D0→KS0K±π∓D^0\to K^0_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp} decays

Amplitude models are applied to studies of resonance structure in D0→KS0K−π+D^0\to K^0_S K^- π^+ and D0→KS0K+π−D^0\to K^0_S K^+ π^- decays using pppp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−13.0\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment. Relative magnitude and phase information is determined, and coherence factors and related observables are computed for both the whole phase space and a restricted region of 100 MeV/c2100\,\mathrm{MeV/}c^2 around the K∗(892)±K^{*}(892)^{\pm} resonance. Two formulations for the KπKπ SS-wave are used, both of which give a good description of the data. The ratio of branching fractions B(D0→KS0K+π−)/B(D0→KS0K−π+)\mathcal{B}(D^0\to K^0_S K^+ π^-)/\mathcal{B}(D^0\to K^0_S K^- π^+) is measured to be 0.655±0.004 (stat)±0.006 (syst)0.655\pm0.004\,(\textrm{stat})\pm0.006\,(\textrm{syst}) over the full phase space and 0.370±0.003 (stat)±0.012 (syst)0.370\pm0.003\, (\textrm{stat})\pm0.012\,(\textrm{syst}) in the restricted region. A search for CPCP violation is performed using the amplitude models and no significant effect is found. Predictions from SU(3)SU(3) flavor symmetry for K∗(892)KK^{*}(892)K amplitudes of different charges are compared with the amplitude model results.

Study of the production of Λb0Λ_b^0 and B‾0\overline{B}^0 hadrons in pppp collisions and first measurement of the Λb0→J/ψpK−Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpK^- branching fraction

The kinematic region of the measurements is pT<20 GeV/cp_{\rm T}<20~{\rm GeV}/c and 2.0<y<4.52.0<y<4.5. The measurements use a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−13~{\rm fb}^{-1} collected by the LHCb detector in pppp collisions at centre-of-mass energies s=7 TeV\sqrt{s}=7~{\rm TeV} in 2011 and s=8 TeV\sqrt{s}=8~{\rm TeV} in 2012. Based on previous LHCb results of the fragmentation fraction ratio, fΛB0/fdf_{Λ_B^0}/f_d, the branching fraction of the decay Λb0→J/ψpK−Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpK^- is measured to be \begin{equation*} \mathcal{B}(Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpK^-)= (3.17\pm0.04\pm0.07\pm0.34^{+0.45}_{-0.28})\times10^{-4}, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, the third is due to the uncertainty on the branching fraction of the decay B‾0→J/ψK‾∗(892)0\overline{B}^0\rightarrow J/ψ\overline{K}^*(892)^0, and the fourth is due to the knowledge of fΛb0/fdf_{Λ_b^0}/f_d. The sum of the asymmetries in the production and decay between Λb0Λ_b^0 and Λ‾b0\overlineΛ_b^0 is also measured as a function of pTp_{\rm T} and yy. The previously published branching fraction of Λb0→J/ψpπ−Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpπ^-, relative to that of Λb0→J/ψpK−Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψpK^-, is updated. BB flavour tagging using charm decays at the LHCb experiment

An algorithm is described for tagging the flavour content at production of neutral BB mesons in the LHCb experiment. The algorithm exploits the correlation of the flavour of a BB meson with the charge of a reconstructed secondary charm hadron from the decay of the other bb hadron produced in the proton-proton collision. Charm hadron candidates are identified in a number of fully or partially reconstructed Cabibbo-favoured decay modes. The algorithm is calibrated on the self-tagged decay modes B+→J/ψ K+B^+ \to J/ψ\, K^+ and B0→J/ψ K∗0B^0 \to J/ψ\, K^{*0} using 3.0 fb−13.0\mathrm{\,fb}^{-1} of data collected by the LHCb experiment at pppp centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV7\mathrm{\,TeV} and 8 TeV8\mathrm{\,TeV}. Its tagging power on these samples of B→J/ψ XB \to J/ψ\, X decays is (0.30±0.01±0.01)%(0.30 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.01) \%.

Dalitz plot analysis of B0→D‾0π+π−B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^- decays

The resonant substructures of B0→D‾0π+π−B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^- decays are studied with the Dalitz plot technique. In this study a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1^{-1} of pppp collisions collected by the LHCb detector is used. The branching fraction of the B0→D‾0π+π−B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^- decay in the region m(D‾0π±)>2.1m(\overline{D}^0π^{\pm})>2.1 GeV/c2/c^2 is measured to be (8.46±0.14±0.29±0.40)×10−4(8.46 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.40) \times 10^{-4}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic and the last arises from the normalisation channel B0→D∗(2010)−π+B^0 \to D^*(2010)^-π^+. The π+π−π^+π^- S-wave components are modelled with the Isobar and K-matrix formalisms. Results of the Dalitz plot analyses using both models are presented. A resonant structure at m(D‾0π−)≈2.8m(\overline{D}^0π^-) \approx 2.8 GeV/c2/c^{2} is confirmed and its spin-parity is determined for the first time as JP=3−J^P = 3^-. The branching fraction, mass and width of this structure are determined together with those of the D0∗(2400)−D^*_0(2400)^- and D2∗(2460)−D^*_2(2460)^- resonances. The branching fractions of other B0→D‾0h0B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 h^0 decay components with h0→π+π−h^0 \to π^+π^- are also reported. Many of these branching fraction measurements are the most precise to date. Determination of the quark coupling strength ∣Vub∣|V_{ub}| using baryonic decays

In the Standard Model of particle physics, the strength of the couplings of the bb quark to the uu and cc quarks, ∣Vub∣|V_{ub}| and ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}|, are governed by the coupling of the quarks to the Higgs boson. Using data from the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, the probability for the Λb0Λ^0_b baryon to decay into the pμ−ν‾μp μ^- \overlineν_μ final state relative to the Λc+μ−ν‾μΛ^+_c μ^- \overlineν_μ final state is measured. Combined with theoretical calculations of the strong interaction and a previously measured value of ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}|, the first ∣Vub∣|V_{ub}| measurement to use a baryonic decay is performed. This measurement is consistent with previous determinations of ∣Vub∣|V_{ub}| using BB meson decays to specific final states and confirms the existing incompatibility with those using an inclusive sample of final states.

Evidence for the strangeness-changing weak decay Ξb−→Λb0π−Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-

Using a pppp collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0~fb−1^{-1}, collected by the LHCb detector, we present the first search for the strangeness-changing weak decay Ξb−→Λb0π−Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-. No bb hadron decay of this type has been seen before. A signal for this decay, corresponding to a significance of 3.2 standard deviations, is reported. The relative rate is measured to be fΞb−fΛb0B(Ξb−→Λb0π−)=(5.7±1.8−0.9+0.8)×10−4{f_{Ξ_b^-}\over{f_{Λ_b^0}}}{\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-) = (5.7\pm1.8^{+0.8}_{-0.9})\times10^{-4}, where fΞb−f_{Ξ_b^-} and fΛb0f_{Λ_b^0} are the b→Ξb−b\toΞ_b^- and b→Λb0b\toΛ_b^0 fragmentation fractions, and B(Ξb−→Λb0π−){\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-) is the branching fraction. Assuming fΞb−/fΛb0f_{Ξ_b^-}/f_{Λ_b^0} is bounded between 0.1 and 0.3, the branching fraction B(Ξb−→Λb0π−){\cal{B}}(Ξ_b^-\toΛ_b^0π^-) would lie in the range from (0.57±0.21)%(0.57\pm0.21)\% to (0.19±0.07)%(0.19\pm0.07)\%.

The total branching fraction and C ⁣PC\!P asymmetry of B±→π±μ+μ−B^\pm\toπ^\pmμ^+μ^- decays are measured to be \begin{eqnarray} \mathcal{B}(B^\pm\toπ^\pmμ^+μ^-) &=& (1.83 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.05) \times 10^{-8}\,\,\,\mathrm{and} \nonumber\\ \mathcal{A}_{C\!P}(B^\pm\toπ^\pmμ^+μ^-) &=& -0.11 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.01\,, \nonumber \end{eqnarray} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The inclusive top quark production cross-sections in the fiducial region are σ(top)[7TeV]=239±53(stat)±33(syst)±24(theory) fbσ({\rm top})[7\rm{TeV}] = 239\pm53({\rm stat})\pm33({\rm syst})\pm24({\rm theory})\,{\rm fb} and σ(top)[8TeV]=289±43(stat)±40(syst)±29(theory) fbσ({\rm top})[8\rm{TeV}] = 289\pm43({\rm stat})\pm40({\rm syst})\pm29({\rm theory})\,{\rm fb}. These results, along with the observed differential yields and charge asymmetries, are in agreement with next-to-leading order Standard Model predictions.

Identification of beauty and charm quark jets at LHCb

Identification of jets originating from beauty and charm quarks is important for measuring Standard Model processes and for searching for new physics. The performance of algorithms developed to select bb- and cc-quark jets is measured using data recorded by LHCb from proton-proton collisions at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 TeV in 2011 and at s=8\sqrt{s}=8 TeV in 2012. The efficiency for identifying a b(c)b(c) jet is about 65%(25%) with a probability for misidentifying a light-parton jet of 0.3% for jets with transverse momentum pT>20p_{\rm T} > 20 GeV and pseudorapidity 2.2<η<4.22.2 < η< 4.2. The dependence of the performance on the pTp_{\rm T} and ηη of the jet is also measured.

LHCb Detector Performance

The LHCb detector is a forward spectrometer at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The experiment is designed for precision measurements of CP violation and rare decays of beauty and charm hadrons. In this paper the performance of the various LHCb sub-detectors and the trigger system are described, using data taken from 2010 to 2012. It is shown that the design criteria of the experiment have been met. The excellent performance of the detector has allowed the LHCb collaboration to publish a wide range of physics results, demonstrating LHCb's unique role, both as a heavy flavour experiment and as a general purpose detector in the forward region.

An angular analysis of the decay Bs0→K∗0Kˉ∗0B_s^0 \rightarrow K^{*0}\bar{K}{}^{*0} is performed using pppp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.01.0 fb−1{fb}^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy s=7\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV. A combined angular and mass analysis separates six helicity amplitudes and allows the measurement of the longitudinal polarisation fraction fL=0.201±0.057(stat.)±0.040(syst.)f_L = 0.201 \pm 0.057 {(stat.)} \pm 0.040{(syst.)} for the Bs0→K∗(892)0Kˉ∗(892)0B_s^0 \rightarrow K^*(892)^0 \bar{K}{}^*(892)^0 decay. A large scalar contribution from the K0∗(1430)K^{*}_{0}(1430) and K0∗(800)K^{*}_{0}(800) resonances is found, allowing the determination of additional CPCP asymmetries. Measurement of forward Z→e+e−\rm Z\rightarrow e^+e^- production at s=8\sqrt{s}=8TeV

A measurement of the cross-section for Z-boson production in the forward region of pp collisions at 8TeV centre-of-mass energy is presented. The measurement is based on a sample of Z→e+e−\rm Z\rightarrow e^+e^- decays reconstructed using the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0fb−1^{-1}. The acceptance is defined by the requirements 2.0<η<4.52.0<η<4.5 and pT>20p_{\rm T}>20GeV for the pseudorapidities and transverse momenta of the leptons. Their invariant mass is required to lie in the range 60--120GeV. The cross-section is determined to be σ(pp→Z→e+e−)=93.81±0.41(stat)±1.48(syst)±1.14(lumi)  pb , σ({\rm pp\to Z\to e^+e^-})=93.81\pm0.41({\rm stat})\pm1.48({\rm syst})\pm1.14({\rm lumi})\;{\rm pb}\,, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second reflects all systematic effects apart from that arising from the luminosity, which is given as the third uncertainty. Differential cross-sections are presented as functions of the Z-boson rapidity and of the angular variable ϕ∗ϕ^*, which is related to the Z-boson transverse momentum.

Measurement of indirect CPCP asymmetries in D0→K−K+D^0\rightarrow K^-K^+ and D0→π−π+D^0\rightarrow π^-π^+ decays using semileptonic BB decays

Time-dependent CPCP asymmetries in the decay rates of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D0→K−K+D^0\rightarrow K^-K^+ and D0→π−π+D^0\rightarrow π^-π^+ are measured in pppp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment. The D0D^0 mesons are produced in semileptonic bb-hadron decays, where the charge of the accompanying muon is used to determine the initial state as D0D^0 or Dˉ0\bar{D}^0. The asymmetries in effective lifetimes between D0D^0 and Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 decays, which are sensitive to indirect CPCP violation, are determined to be \begin{align*} A_Γ(K^-K^+) = (-0.134 \pm 0.077 \; {}^{+0.026}_{-0.034})\% \, A_Γ(π^-π^+) = (-0.092\pm 0.145 \; {}^{+0.025}_{-0.033})\% \, \end{align*} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. This result is in agreement with previous measurements and with the hypothesis of no indirect CPCP violation in D0D^0 decays.

Using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1^{-1} collected in pppp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, the Bs0→ϕϕB_s^0 \to ϕϕ branching fraction is measured to be B(Bs0→ϕϕ)=(1.84±0.05(stat)±0.07(syst)±0.11(fs/fd)±0.12(norm))×10−5, \mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to ϕϕ) = ( 1.84 \pm 0.05 (\text{stat}) \pm 0.07 (\text{syst}) \pm 0.11 (f_s/f_d) \pm 0.12 (\text{norm}) ) \times 10^{-5}, where fs/fdf_s/f_d represents the ratio of the Bs0B_s^0 to B0B^0 production cross-sections, and the B0→ϕK∗(892)0B^0 \to ϕK^*(892)^0 decay mode is used for normalization. This is the most precise measurement of this branching fraction to date, representing a factor five reduction in the statistical uncertainty compared with the previous best measurement. A search for the decay B0→ϕϕB^0 \to ϕϕ is also made. No signal is observed, and an upper limit on the branching fraction is set as B(B0→ϕϕ)<2.8×10−8 \mathcal{B}(B^0 \to ϕϕ) < 2.8 \times 10^{-8} at 90% confidence level. This is a factor of seven improvement compared to the previous best limit.

The cross-section for prompt production of ηc(1S)η_c (1S) mesons relative to the prompt J/ψJ/ψ cross-section is measured, for the first time, to be σηc(1S)/σJ/ψ=1.74±0.29±0.28±0.18Bσ_{η_c (1S)}/σ_{J/ψ} = 1.74 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.18 _{B} at a centre-of-mass energy s=7\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb−1^{-1}, and σηc(1S)/σJ/ψ=1.60±0.29±0.25±0.17Bσ_{η_c (1S)}/σ_{J/ψ} = 1.60 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.17 _{B} at s=8\sqrt{s} = 8 TeV using 2.0 fb−1^{-1}. The uncertainties quoted are, in order, statistical, systematic, and that on the ratio of branching fractions of the ηc(1S)η_c (1S) and J/ψJ/ψ decays to the ppˉp \bar{p} final state. In addition, the inclusive branching fraction of bb-hadron decays into ηc(1S)η_c (1S) mesons is measured, for the first time, to be B(b→ηcX)=(4.88±0.64±0.29±0.67B)×10−3B ( b \rightarrow η_c X ) = (4.88 \pm 0.64 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.67 _{B}) \times 10^{-3}, where the third uncertainty includes also the uncertainty on the J/ψJ/ψ inclusive branching fraction from bb-hadron decays. The difference between the J/ψJ/ψ and ηc(1S)η_c (1S) meson masses is determined to be 114.7±1.5±0.1114.7 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.1 MeV/c2^2.

Using pppp collision data collected by LHCb at center-of-mass energies s\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1}, the ratio of the branching fraction of the Bc+→ψ(2S)π+B_c^+ \rightarrow ψ(2S)π^+ decay relative to that of the Bc+→J/ψπ+B_c^+ \rightarrow J/ψπ^+ decay is measured to be 0.268 ±\pm 0.032 (stat) ±\pm 0.007 (syst) ±\pm 0.006 (BF). This measurement is consistent with the previous LHCb result, and the statistical uncertainty is halved.

The cross-section is measured in the rapidity range 2<y(Υ)<4.52<y(Υ)<4.5 where the muons are reconstructed in the pseudorapidity range 2<η(μ±)<4.52<η(μ^\pm)<4.5. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb−1^{-1} and was collected at centre-of-mass energies of 77 TeV and 88 TeV. The measured Υ(1S)Υ(1S) and Υ(2S)Υ(2S) production cross-sections are \begin{eqnarray} σ(pp \to pΥ(1S)p) &=& 9.0 \pm 2.1 \pm 1.7\textrm{ pb and}\nonumber\\ σ(pp \to pΥ(2S)p) &=& 1.3 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.3\textrm{ pb},\nonumber \end{eqnarray} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Measurement of the forward ZZ boson production cross-section in pppp collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV

A measurement of the production cross-section for ZZ bosons that decay to muons is presented. The data were recorded by the LHCb detector during pppp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1^{-1}. The cross-section is measured for muons in the pseudorapidity range 2.0<η<4.52.0 < η< 4.5 with transverse momenta pT>20p_{T} > 20 GeV/c. The dimuon mass is restricted to 60<Mμ+μ−<12060 < M_{μ^{+}μ^{-}} < 120 GeV/c2^{2}. The measured cross-section is σZ→μ+μ−=(76.0±0.3±0.5±1.0±1.3) pbσ_{Z\rightarrowμ^{+}μ^{-}} = (76.0 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.0 \pm 1.3) \, \text{pb} where the uncertainties are due to the sample size, systematic effects, the beam energy and the luminosity. This result is in good agreement with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. The cross-section is also measured differentially as a function of kinematic variables of the ZZ boson. Ratios of the production cross-sections of electroweak bosons are presented using updated LHCb measurements of WW boson production. A precise test of the Standard Model is provided by the measurement of the ratio σW+→μ+νμ+σW−→μ−νˉμσZ→μ+μ−=20.63±0.09±0.12±0.05,\frac{σ_{W^{+}\rightarrowμ^{+}ν_μ} + σ_{W^{-}\rightarrowμ^{-}\barν_μ}}{σ_{Z\rightarrowμ^{+}μ^{-}}} = 20.63\pm0.09\pm0.12\pm0.05, where the uncertainty due to luminosity cancels.

Observation of J/ψpJ/ψp resonances consistent with pentaquark states in Λb0→J/ψK−p{Λ_b^0\to J/ψK^-p} decays

Observations of exotic structures in the J/ψpJ/ψp channel, that we refer to as pentaquark-charmonium states, in Λb0→J/ψK−pΛ_b^0\to J/ψK^- p decays are presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3/fb acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8 TeV pp collisions. An amplitude analysis is performed on the three-body final-state that reproduces the two-body mass and angular distributions. To obtain a satisfactory fit of the structures seen in the J/ψpJ/ψp mass spectrum, it is necessary to include two Breit-Wigner amplitudes that each describe a resonant state. The significance of each of these resonances is more than 9 standard deviations. One has a mass of 4380±8±294380\pm 8\pm 29 MeV and a width of 205±18±86205\pm 18\pm 86 MeV, while the second is narrower, with a mass of 4449.8±1.7±2.54449.8\pm 1.7\pm 2.5 MeV and a width of 39±5±1939\pm 5\pm 19 MeV. The preferred JPJ^P assignments are of opposite parity, with one state having spin 3/2 and the other 5/2.

Observation of the B0→ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0} decay from an amplitude analysis of B0→(π+π−)(π+π−){B^0 \to (π^+π^-)(π^+π^-)} decays

Proton-proton collision data recorded in 2011 and 2012 by the \lhcb experiment, co\-rres\-pon\-ding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0\invfb, are a\-na\-lysed to search for the charmless B0→ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0} decay. More than 600 ${\B^0 \to (π^+π^-)(π^+π^-)}$ signal decays are selected and used to perform an amplitude analysis from which the B0→ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0} decay is observed for the first time with 7.1 standard deviations significance. The fraction of B0→ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0} decays yielding a longitudinally polarised final state is measured to be $\fL = 0.745^{+0.048}_{-0.058} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.034 ({\rm syst})$. The B0→ρ0ρ0{B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0} branching fraction, using the ${\B^0 \to ϕK^*(892)^{0}}$ decay as reference, is also reported as ${\BF(B^0 \to ρ^0 ρ^0) = (0.94 \pm 0.17 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.09 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.06 ({\rm BF})) \times 10^{-6}}$.

Observation of the Bs0→η′η′B^0_s\toη'η' decay

The first observation of the Bs0→η′η′B^0_s\toη'η' decay is reported. The study is based on a sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to 3.03.0 fb−1{\rm fb^{-1}} of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector. The significance of the signal is 6.46.4 standard deviations. The branching fraction is measured to be [3.31±0.64 (stat)±0.28 (syst)±0.12 (norm)]×10−5[3.31 \pm 0.64\,{\rm (stat)} \pm 0.28\,{\rm (syst)} \pm 0.12\,{\rm (norm)}]\times10^{-5}, where the third uncertainty comes from the B±→η′K±B^{\pm}\toη' K^{\pm} branching fraction that is used as a normalisation. In addition, the charge asymmetries of B±→η′K±B^{\pm}\toη' K^{\pm} and B±→ϕK±B^{\pm}\toϕK^{\pm}, which are control channels, are measured to be (−0.2±1.3)%(-0.2 \pm1.3)\% and (+1.7±1.3)%(+1.7\pm1.3)\%, respectively. Observation of the decay B‾s0→ψ(2S)K+π−\overline{B}_s^0 \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^-

The decay B‾s0→ψ(2S)K+π−\overline{B}_s^0 \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^- is observed using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0fb−13.0fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment in pppp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The branching fraction relative to the B0→ψ(2S)K+π−B^0\rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^- decay mode is measured to be \begin{equation} \frac{{\cal B}(\overline{B}^0_s \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^-)}{{\cal B}(B^0 \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^+ π^-)} = 5.38 \pm 0.36 (stat) \pm 0.22 (syst) \pm 0.31 \, (f_s/f_d) \, \%,\nonumber \end{equation} where fs/fdf_s/f_d indicates the uncertainty due to the ratio of probabilities for a bb quark to hadronise into a Bs0B_s^0 or B0B^0 meson. Using an amplitude analysis, the fraction of decays proceeding via an intermediate K∗(892)0K^*(892)^0 meson is measured to be 0.645±0.049(stat)±0.049(syst)0.645 \pm 0.049 (stat) \pm 0.049 (syst) and its longitudinal polarisation fraction is 0.524±0.056(stat)±0.029(syst)0.524 \pm 0.056 (stat) \pm 0.029 (syst). The relative branching fraction for this component is determined to be \begin{equation} \frac{{\cal B}(\overline{B}^0_s \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^*(892)^0)}{{\cal B}(B^0 \rightarrow ψ(2S) K^*(892)^0)} = 5.58 \pm 0.57 (stat) \pm 0.40 (syst) \pm 0.32 \, (f_s/f_d) \, \%. \nonumber \end{equation} In addition, the mass splitting between the Bs0B_s^0 and B0B^0 mesons is measured as \begin{equation} M(B^0_s) - M(B^0) = 87.45 \pm 0.44 (stat) \pm 0.07 (syst) MeV/c^2. \nonumber \end{equation}

Observation of the rare Bs0→μ+μ−B^0_s\toμ^+μ^- decay from the combined analysis of CMS and LHCb data

A joint measurement is presented of the branching fractions Bs0→μ+μ−B^0_s\toμ^+μ^- and B0→μ+μ−B^0\toμ^+μ^- in proton-proton collisions at the LHC by the CMS and LHCb experiments. The data samples were collected in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and in 2012 at 8 TeV. The combined analysis produces the first observation of the Bs0→μ+μ−B^0_s\toμ^+μ^- decay, with a statistical significance exceeding six standard deviations, and the best measurement of its branching fraction so far. Furthermore, evidence for the B0→μ+μ−B^0\toμ^+μ^- decay is obtained with a statistical significance of three standard deviations. The branching fraction measurements are statistically compatible with SM predictions and impose stringent constraints on several theories beyond the SM.

Observation of two new Ξb−Ξ_b^- baryon resonances

Two structures are observed close to the kinematic threshold in the Ξb0π−Ξ_b^0 π^- mass spectrum in a sample of proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1^{-1} recorded by the LHCb experiment. In the quark model, two baryonic resonances with quark content bdsbds are expected in this mass region: the spin-parity JP=12+J^P = \frac{1}{2}^+ and JP=32+J^P=\frac{3}{2}^+ states, denoted Ξb′−Ξ_b^{\prime -} and Ξb∗−Ξ_b^{*-}. Interpreting the structures as these resonances, we measure the mass differences and the width of the heavier state to be m(Ξb′−)−m(Ξb0)−m(π−)=3.653±0.018±0.006m(Ξ_b^{\prime -}) - m(Ξ_b^0) - m(π^{-}) = 3.653 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.006 MeV/c2/c^2, m(Ξb∗−)−m(Ξb0)−m(π−)=23.96±0.12±0.06m(Ξ_b^{*-}) - m(Ξ_b^0) - m(π^{-}) = 23.96 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.06 MeV/c2/c^2, Γ(Ξb∗−)=1.65±0.31±0.10Γ(Ξ_b^{*-}) = 1.65 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.10 MeV, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The width of the lighter state is consistent with zero, and we place an upper limit of Γ(Ξb′−)<0.08Γ(Ξ_b^{\prime -}) < 0.08 MeV at 95% confidence level. Relative production rates of these states are also reported.

Precise measurements of the properties of the B_1(5721)^(0,+) and B_2*(5747)^(0,+) states and observation of B^(+,0) pi^(-,+) mass structures

Invariant mass distributions of B+pi- and B0pi+ combinations are investigated in order to study excited B mesons. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to 3.0 fb-1 of pp collision data, recorded by the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. Precise measurements of the masses and widths of the B_1(5721)^(0,+) and B_2*(5747)^(0,+) states are reported. Clear enhancements, particularly prominent at high pion transverse momentum, are seen over background in the mass range 5850--6000 MeV in both B+pi- and B0pi+ combinations. The structures are consistent with the presence of four excited B mesons, labelled B_J(5840)^(0,+) and B_J(5960)^(0,+), whose masses and widths are obtained under different hypotheses for their quantum numbers.

A search is presented for hidden-sector bosons, χχ, produced in the decay B0 ⁣→K∗(892)0χ{B^0\!\to K^*(892)^0χ}, with K∗(892)0 ⁣→K+π−K^*(892)^0\!\to K^{+}π^{-} and χ ⁣→μ+μ−χ\!\toμ^+μ^-. The search is performed using pppp-collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb−1^{-1} collected with the LHCb detector. No significant signal is observed in the accessible mass range 214≤m(χ)≤4350214 \leq m(χ) \leq 4350 MeV, and upper limits are placed on the branching fraction product B(B0 ⁣→K∗(892)0χ)×B(χ ⁣→μ+μ−)\mathcal{B}(B^0\!\to K^*(892)^0χ)\times\mathcal{B}(χ\!\toμ^+μ^-) as a function of the mass and lifetime of the χχ boson. These limits are of the order of 10−910^{-9} for χχ lifetimes less than 100 ps over most of the m(χ)m(χ) range, and place the most stringent constraints to date on many theories that predict the existence of additional low-mass bosons.

Study of B−→DK−π+π−B^{-}\to DK^-π^+π^- and B−→Dπ−π+π−B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^- decays and determination of the CKM angle γγ

We report a study of the suppressed B−→DK−π+π−B^-\to DK^-π^+π^- and favored B−→Dπ−π+π−B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^- decays, where the neutral DD meson is detected through its decays to the K∓π±K^{\mp}π^{\pm} and CP-even K+K−K^+K^- and π+π−π^+π^- final states. The measurement is carried out using a proton-proton collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0~fb−1^{-1}. We observe the first significant signals in the CP-even final states of the DD meson for both the suppressed B−→DK−π+π−B^-\to DK^-π^+π^- and favored B−→Dπ−π+π−B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^- modes, as well as in the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed D→K+π−D\to K^+π^- final state of the B−→Dπ−π+π−B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^- decay. Evidence for the ADS suppressed decay B−→DK−π+π−B^{-}\to DK^-π^+π^-, with D→K+π−D\to K^+π^-, is also presented. From the observed yields in the B−→DK−π+π−B^-\to DK^-π^+π^-, B−→Dπ−π+π−B^-\to Dπ^-π^+π^- and their charge conjugate decay modes, we measure the value of the weak phase to be γ=(74−19+20)oγ=(74^{+20}_{-19})^{\rm o}. Study of WW boson production in association with beauty and charm

The associated production of a WW boson with a jet originating from either a light parton or heavy-flavor quark is studied in the forward region using proton-proton collisions. The analysis uses data corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.0 and 2.0 fb−12.0\,{\rm fb}^{-1} collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively. The WW bosons are reconstructed using the W→μνW\toμν decay and muons with a transverse momentum, pTp_{\rm T}, larger than 20 GeV in the pseudorapidity range 2.0<η<4.52.0<η<4.5. The partons are reconstructed as jets with pT>20p_{\rm T} > 20 GeV and 2.2<η<4.22.2 < η< 4.2. The sum of the muon and jet momenta must satisfy pT>20p_{\rm T} > 20 GeV. The fraction of W+W+jet events that originate from beauty and charm quarks is measured, along with the charge asymmetries of the W ⁣+ ⁣bW\!+\!b and W ⁣+ ⁣cW\!+\!c production cross-sections. The ratio of the W+W+jet to Z+Z+jet production cross-sections is also measured using the Z→μμZ\toμμ decay. All results are in agreement with Standard Model predictions.

Determination of gamma and -2beta_s from charmless two-body decays of beauty mesons

Using the latest LHCb measurements of time-dependent CP violation in the B^0_s -> K^+K^- decay, a U-spin relation between the decay amplitudes of B^0_s -> K^+K^- and B^0 -> π^+π^- decay processes allows constraints to be placed on the angle gamma of the unitarity triangle and on the B^0_s mixing phase -2β_s. Results from an extended approach, which uses additional inputs on B^0 -> π^0π^0 and B^+ -> π^+π^0 decays from other experiments and exploits isospin symmetry, are also presented. The dependence of the results on the maximum allowed amount of U-spin breaking is studied. At 68% probability, the value γ= ( 63.5 +7.2 -6.7 ) degrees modulo 180 degrees is determined. In an alternative analysis, the value -2β_s = -0.12 +0.14 -0.16 rad is found. In both measurements, the uncertainties due to U-spin breaking effects up to 50% are included.

First measurement of the charge asymmetry in beauty-quark pair production at a hadron collider

The difference in the angular distributions between beauty quarks and antiquarks, referred to as the charge asymmetry, is measured for the first time in bbˉb\bar{b} pair production at a hadron collider. The data used correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.0fb−1^{-1} collected at 7TeV center-of-mass energy in proton-proton collisions with the LHCb detector. The measurement is performed in three regions of the invariant mass of the bbˉb\bar{b} system. The results obtained are: \begin{eqnarray} A_{C}^{b\bar{b}}(40 < M_{b\bar{b}} < 75\,\rm{GeV/c^2}) &=& 0.4 \pm 0.4(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.3(\rm{syst})\%\newline A_{C}^{b\bar{b}}(75 < M_{b\bar{b}} < 105\,\rm{GeV/c^2}) &=& 2.0 \pm 0.9(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.6(\rm{syst})\%\newline A_{C}^{b\bar{b}}(M_{b\bar{b}} > 105\,\rm{GeV/c^2}) &=&1.6 \pm 1.7(\rm{stat}) \pm 0.6(\rm{syst})\% \end{eqnarray} where ACbbˉA_{C}^{b\bar{b}} is defined as the asymmetry in the difference in rapidity between jets formed from the beauty quark and antiquark. The beauty jets are required to satisfy 2<η<42<η<4, ET>20E_{\rm T} > 20GeV, and have an opening angle in the transverse plane Δϕ>2.6Δϕ>2.6rad. These measurements are consistent with the predictions of the Standard Model.

Measurement of C ⁣PC\!P asymmetries in the decays B0→K∗0μ+μ−B^0 \rightarrow K^{*0} μ^+ μ^- and B+→K+μ+μ−B^+ \rightarrow K^{+} μ^+ μ^-

The direct C ⁣PC\!P asymmetries of the decays B0→K∗0μ+μ−B^0 \rightarrow K^{*0} μ^+ μ^- and B+→K+μ+μ−B^+ \rightarrow K^{+} μ^+ μ^- are measured using pppp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0$\mbox{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector. The respective control modes B0→J/ψK∗0B^0 \rightarrow J/ψK^{*0} and B+→J/ψK+B^+ \rightarrow J/ψK^{+} are used to account for detection and production asymmetries. The measurements are made in several intervals of μ+μ−μ^+ μ^- invariant mass squared, with the ϕ(1020)ϕ(1020) and charmonium resonance regions excluded. Under the hypothesis of zero C ⁣PC\!P asymmetry in the control modes, the average values of the asymmetries are \begin{align} {\cal A}_{C\!P}(B^0 \rightarrow K^{*0} μ^+ μ^-) &= -0.035 \pm 0.024 \pm 0.003, \cr {\cal A}_{C\!P}(B^+ \rightarrow K^{+} μ^+ μ^-) &= \phantom{-}0.012 \pm 0.017 \pm 0.001, \end{align} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are due to systematic effects. Both measurements are consistent with the Standard Model prediction of small C ⁣PC\!P asymmetry in these decays.

Measurement of CPCP asymmetry in D0→K−K+D^0 \rightarrow K^- K^+ and D0→π−π+D^0 \rightarrow π^- π^+ decays

Time-integrated CPCP asymmetries in D0D^0 decays to the final states K−K+K^- K^+ and π−π+π^- π^+ are measured using proton-proton collisions corresponding to 3 fb−13\mathrm{\,fb}^{-1} of integrated luminosity collected at centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV7\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V} and 8 TeV8\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}. The D0D^0 mesons are produced in semileptonic bb-hadron decays, where the charge of the accompanying muon is used to determine the initial flavour of the charm meson. The difference in CPCP asymmetries between the two final states is measured to be \begin{align} ΔA_{CP} = A_{CP}(K^-K^+)-A_{CP}(π^-π^+) = (+0.14 \pm 0.16\mathrm{\,(stat)} \pm 0.08\mathrm{\,(syst)})\% \ . \nonumber \end{align} A measurement of ACP(K−K+)A_{CP}(K^-K^+) is obtained assuming negligible CPCP violation in charm mixing and in Cabibbo-favoured DD decays. It is found to be \begin{align} A_{CP}(K^-K^+) = (-0.06 \pm 0.15\mathrm{\,(stat)} \pm 0.10\mathrm{\,(syst)}) \% \ ,\nonumber \end{align} where the correlation coefficient between ΔACPΔA_{CP} and ACP(K−K+)A_{CP}(K^-K^+) is ρ=0.28ρ=0.28. By combining these results, the CPCP asymmetry in the D0→π−π+D^0\rightarrowπ^-π^+ channel is ACP(π−π+)=(−0.20±0.19 (stat)±0.10 (syst))%A_{CP}(π^-π^+)=(-0.20\pm0.19\mathrm{\,(stat)}\pm0.10\mathrm{\,(syst)})\%.

A model-dependent amplitude analysis of B±→DK±B^{\pm} \rightarrow D K^{\pm} with D→KS0π+π−D \rightarrow K_S^0 π^+ π^- decays is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11 fb−1^{-1}, recorded by LHCb at a centre-of-mass energy of 77 TeV in 20112011. Values of the CPCP violation observables x±x_{\pm} and y±y_{\pm}, which are sensitive to the CKM angle γγ, are measured to be \begin{align*} x_- &= +0.027 \pm 0.044 ^{+0.010}_{-0.008} \pm 0.001, \\ y_- &= +0.013 \pm 0.048 ^{+0.009}_{-0.007} \pm 0.003, \\ x_+ &= -0.084 \pm 0.045 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.005, \\ y_+ &= -0.032 \pm 0.048 ^{+0.010}_{-0.009} \pm 0.008, \end{align*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third arises from the uncertainty of the D→KS0π+π−D \rightarrow K_S^0 π^+ π^- amplitude model. The value of γγ is determined to be (84−42+49)∘(84^{+49}_{-42})^\circ, including all sources of uncertainty. Neutral DD meson mixing is found to have negligible effect.

Measurement of CP violation in Bs0→ϕϕB_s^0 \to ϕϕ decays

A measurement of the decay time dependent CP-violating asymmetry in Bs0→ϕϕB_s^0 \to ϕϕ decays is presented, along with measurements of the TT-odd triple-product asymmetries. In this decay channel, the CP-violating weak phase arises from the interference between Bs0B_s^0-Bˉs0\bar{B}_s^0 mixing and the loop-induced decay amplitude. Using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−13.0\, fb^{-1} collected with the LHCb detector, a signal yield of approximately 4000 Bs0→ϕϕB_s^0 \to ϕϕ decays is obtained. The CP-violating phase is measured to be ϕs=−0.17±0.15 (stat)±0.03 (syst){ϕ_s =-0.17\pm0.15\mathrm{\,(stat)}\pm0.03\mathrm{\,(syst)}} rad. Measurement of the Bs0B_s^0 meson lifetime in Ds+π−D_s^+π^- decays

We present a measurement of the ratio of the Bs meson lifetime, in the flavor-specific decay to Ds+π−D_s^+π^-, to that of the B0 meson. The pp collision data used correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1/fb, collected with the LHCb detector, at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. Combining our measured value of 1.010 +/- 0.010 +/- 0.008 for this ratio with the known lifetime, we determine the flavor-specific Bs lifetime to be tau(Bs) = 1.535 +/- 0.015 +/- 0.014 ps, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This is the most precise measurement to date, and is consistent with previous measurements and theoretical predictions.

Measurement of the χb(3P)χ_b(3P) mass and of the relative rate of χb1(1P)χ_{b1}(1P) and χb2(1P)χ_{b2}(1P) production

The production of χbχ_b mesons in proton-proton collisions is studied using a data sample collected by the LHCb detector, at centre-of-mass energies of s=7\sqrt{s}=7 and 88 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1^{-1}. The χbχ_b mesons are identified through their decays to Υ(1S)γΥ(1S)γ and Υ(2S)γΥ(2S)γ using photons that converted to e+e−e^+e^- pairs in the detector. The relative prompt production rate of χb1(1P)χ_{b1}(1P) and χb2(1P)χ_{b2}(1P) mesons is measured as a function of the Υ(1S)Υ(1S) transverse momentum in the χbχ_b rapidity range 2.0<y<4.52.0<y<4.5. A precise measurement of the χb(3P)χ_b(3P) mass is also performed. Assuming a mass splitting between the χb1(3P)χ_{b1}(3P) and the χb2(3P)χ_{b2}(3P) states of 10.5 MeV/c2c^2, the measured mass of the χb1(3P)χ_{b1}(3P) meson is m(χb1(3P))=10515.7−3.9+2.2(stat)−2.1+1.5(syst)MeV/c2. m(χ_{b1}(3P))= 10515.7^{+2.2}_{-3.9}(stat) ^{+1.5}_{-2.1}(syst) MeV/c^2.

Measurement of the CKM angle γusing B^\pm --> D K^\pm with D-->K_Sπ^+π^-, K_SK^+K^- decays

A binned Dalitz plot analysis of B±→DK±B^\pm \to D K^\pm decays, with D→KSπ+π−D \to K_S π^+π^- and D→KSK+K−D \to K_S K^+ K^-, is performed to measure the \CP-violating observables x±x_{\pm} and y±y_{\pm}, which are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γγ. The analysis exploits a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0\invfb collected by the LHCb experiment. Measurements from CLEO-c of the variation of the strong-interaction phase of the DD decay over the Dalitz plot are used as inputs. The values of the parameters are found to be x+=(−7.7±2.4±1.0±0.4)×10−2x_+ = (-7.7 \pm 2.4 \pm 1.0 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{-2}, x−=(2.5±2.5±1.0±0.5)×10−2x_- = (2.5 \pm 2.5 \pm 1.0 \pm 0.5) \times 10^{-2}, y+=(−2.2±2.5±0.4±1.0)×10−2y_+ = (-2.2 \pm 2.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 1.0)\times 10^{-2}, and y−=(7.5±2.9±0.5±1.4)×10−2y_- = (7.5 \pm 2.9 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.4) \times 10^{-2}. The first, second, and third uncertainties are the statistical, the experimental systematic, and that associated with the precision of the strong-phase parameters. These are the most precise measurements of these observables and correspond to γ=(62 −14 +15)∘γ= (62^{\,+15}_{\,-14})^\circ, with a second solution at γ→γ+180∘γ\to γ+ 180^\circ, and rB=0.080−0.021+0.019r_B = 0.080^{+ 0.019}_{-0.021}, where rBr_B is the ratio between the suppressed and favoured BB decay amplitudes.

Measurement of the CP-violating phase ββ in B0→J/ψπ+π−B^0\rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^- decays and limits on penguin effects

Time-dependent CP violation is measured in the B0→J/ψπ+π−B^0\rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^- channel for each π+π−π^+π^- resonant final state using data collected with an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1^{-1} in pppp collisions using the LHCb detector. The final state with the largest rate, J/ψρ0(770)J/ψρ^0(770), is used to measure the CP-violating angle 2βeff2β^{\rm eff} to be (41.7±9.6−6.3+2.8)∘(41.7\pm 9.6_{-6.3}^{+2.8})^{\circ}. This result can be used to limit the size of penguin amplitude contributions to CP violation measurements in, for example, Bs0→J/ψϕB_s^0\rightarrow J/ψϕ decays. Assuming approximate SU(3) flavour symmetry and neglecting higher order diagrams, the shift in the CP-violating phase ϕsϕ_s is limited to be within the interval [−1.05∘-1.05^\circ, +1.18∘1.18^\circ] at 95% confidence level. Changes to the limit due to SU(3) symmetry breaking effects are also discussed.

The cross-sections for these processes, where the dimeson system has a rapidity between 2.0 and 4.5, are measured to be σJ/ψJ/ψ=58±10(stat)±6(syst) pb,σJ/ψψ(2S)=63−18+27(stat)±10(syst) pb,σψ(2S)ψ(2S)<237 pb,σχc0χc0<69 nb,σχc1χc1<45 pb,σχc2χc2<141 pb, \begin{array}{rl} σ^{J/ψJ/ψ} &= 58\pm10{(\rm stat)} \pm 6{(\rm syst)} {\rm\ pb} , \\ σ^{J/ψψ(2S)} &= 63 ^{+27}_{-18}{(\rm stat)}\pm 10{(\rm syst)} {\rm\ pb} , \\ σ^{ψ(2S)ψ(2S)} &< 237 {\rm\ pb}, \\ σ^{χ_{c0}χ_{c0}} &< 69 {\rm\ nb}, \\ σ^{χ_{c1}χ_{c1}} &< 45 {\rm\ pb}, \\ σ^{χ_{c2}χ_{c2}} &< 141 {\rm\ pb}, \\ \end{array} where the upper limits are set at the 90% confidence level. The measured J/ψJ/ψJ/ψJ/ψ and J/ψψ(2S)J/ψψ(2S) cross-sections are consistent with theoretical expectations.

Observation of overlapping spin-1 and spin-3 Dˉ0K−\bar{D}^0 K^- resonances at mass 2.86GeV/c22.86 {\rm GeV}/c^2

The resonant substructure of Bs0→Dˉ0K−π+B_s^0 \rightarrow \bar{D}^0 K^- π^+ decays is studied using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−13.0\,{\rm fb}^{-1} of pppp collision data recorded by the LHCb detector. An excess at m(Dˉ0K−)≈2.86GeV/c2m(\bar{D}^0 K^-) \approx 2.86 {\rm GeV}/c^2 is found to be an admixture of spin-1 and spin-3 resonances. Therefore the DsJ∗(2860)−D^*_{sJ}(2860)^- state previously observed in inclusive e+e−→Dˉ0K−Xe^+e^- \rightarrow \bar{D}^0 K^- X and pp→Dˉ0K−Xpp \rightarrow \bar{D}^0 K^- X processes consists of at least two particles. This is the first observation of a heavy flavoured spin-3 resonance, and the first time that any spin-3 particle has been seen to be produced in BB decays. The masses and widths of the new states and of the Ds2∗(2573)−D^*_{s2}(2573)^- meson are measured, giving the most precise determinations to date.

Observation of the Bs0→J/ψKS0K±π∓B^{0}_{s}\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^{0} K^{\pm} π^{\mp} decay

Decays of the form B(s)0→J/ψKS0h+h(′)−B^{0}_{(s)}\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^{0} h^+ h^{\left(\prime\right) -} (h(′)=K,πh^{(\prime)} = K, π) are searched for in proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−11.0 \, {\rm fb}^{-1} recorded with the LHCb detector. The first observation of the Bs0→J/ψKS0K±π∓B^{0}_{s}\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^{0} K^{\pm} π^{\mp} decay is reported, with significance in excess of 10 standard deviations. The B0→J/ψKS0K+K−B^{0}\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-} decay is also observed for the first time. The branching fraction of B0→J/ψKS0π+π−B^{0}\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} is determined, to significantly better precision than previous measurements, using B0→J/ψKS0B^0 \rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^{0} as a normalisation channel. Branching fractions and upper limits of the other B(s)0→J/ψKS0h+h(′)−B^{0}_{(s)}\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^{0} h^+ h^{\left(\prime\right) -} modes are determined relative to that of the B0→J/ψKS0π+π−B^{0}\rightarrow J/ψK_{\rm S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} decay.

Observation of the Λb0→J/ψpπ−Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψp π^- decay

The first observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λb0→J/ψpπ−Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψp π^- is reported using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1\rm fb^{-1}. A prominent signal is observed and the branching fraction relative to the decay mode Λb0→J/ψpK−Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψp K^- is determined to be B(Λb0→J/ψpπ−)B(Λb0→J/ψpK−)=0.0824±0.0025 (stat)±0.0042 (syst). \frac{{\cal B}(Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψp π^-)}{{\cal B}(Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψp K^-)}=0.0824\pm0.0025\:(\text{stat})\pm0.0042\:(\text{syst}). A search for direct CP violation is performed. The difference in the CP asymmetries between these two decays is found to be ACP(Λb0→J/ψpπ−)−ACP(Λb0→J/ψpK−)=(+5.7±2.4 (stat)±1.2 (syst))%, {\cal A}_{CP}(Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψp π^-)-{\cal A}_{CP}(Λ_b^0\rightarrow J/ψp K^-)=(+5.7\pm 2.4\:(\text{stat})\pm1.2\:(\text{syst}))\%, which is compatible with CP symmetry at the 2.2σ2.2σ level.

Observation of the resonant character of the Z(4430)−Z(4430)^- state

Resonant structures in B0→ψ′π−K+B^0\toψ'π^-K^+ decays are analyzed by performing a four-dimensional fit of the decay amplitude, using pppp collision data corresponding to 3fb−1\rm 3 fb^{-1} collected with the LHCb detector. The data cannot be described with K+π−K^+π^- resonances alone, which is confirmed with a model-independent approach. A highly significant Z(4430)−→ψ′π−Z(4430)^-\toψ'π^- component is required, thus confirming the existence of this state. The observed evolution of the Z(4430)−Z(4430)^- amplitude with the ψ′π−ψ'π^- mass establishes the resonant nature of this particle. The mass and width measurements are substantially improved. The spin-parity is determined unambiguously to be 1+1^+.

Precision luminosity measurements at LHCb

Measuring cross-sections at the LHC requires the luminosity to be determined accurately at each centre-of-mass energy s\sqrt{s}. In this paper results are reported from the luminosity calibrations carried out at the LHC interaction point 8 with the LHCb detector for s\sqrt{s} = 2.76, 7 and 8 TeV (proton-proton collisions) and for sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5 TeV (proton-lead collisions). Both the "van der Meer scan" and "beam-gas imaging" luminosity calibration methods were employed. It is observed that the beam density profile cannot always be described by a function that is factorizable in the two transverse coordinates. The introduction of a two-dimensional description of the beams improves significantly the consistency of the results. For proton-proton interactions at s\sqrt{s} = 8 TeV a relative precision of the luminosity calibration of 1.47% is obtained using van der Meer scans and 1.43% using beam-gas imaging, resulting in a combined precision of 1.12%. Applying the calibration to the full data set determines the luminosity with a precision of 1.16%. This represents the most precise luminosity measurement achieved so far at a bunched-beam hadron collider.

Precision measurement of CPCP violation in Bs0→J/ψK+K−B_s^0 \to J/ψK^+K^- decays

The time-dependent CPCP asymmetry in Bs0→J/ψK+K−B_s^0 \to J/ψK^+K^- decays is measured using pppp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.03.0fb−1^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 77 and 88TeV. In a sample of 96 000 Bs0→J/ψK+K−B_s^0 \to J/ψK^+K^- decays, the CPCP-violating phase ϕsϕ_s is measured, as well as the decay widths ΓLΓ_{L} and ΓHΓ_{H} of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the Bs0−Bˉs0B_s^0-\bar{B}_s^0 system. The values obtained are ϕs=−0.058±0.049±0.006ϕ_s = -0.058 \pm 0.049 \pm 0.006 rad, Γs≡(ΓL+ΓH)/2=0.6603±0.0027±0.0015Γ_s \equiv (Γ_{L}+Γ_{H})/2 = 0.6603 \pm 0.0027 \pm 0.0015ps−1^{-1}, andΔΓs≡ΓL−ΓH=0.0805±0.0091±0.0032ΔΓ_s \equiv Γ_{L} - Γ_{H} = 0.0805 \pm 0.0091 \pm 0.0032ps−1^{-1}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements of those quantities to date. A combined analysis with Bs0→J/ψπ+π−B_s^{0} \to J/ψπ^+π^- decays gives ϕs=−0.010±0.039ϕ_s = -0.010 \pm 0.039 rad. All measurements are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. For the first time the phase ϕsϕ_s is measured independently for each polarisation state of the K+K−K^+K^- system and shows no evidence for polarisation dependence.

Precision measurement of the mass and lifetime of the Ξb0Ξ_b^0 baryon

Using a proton-proton collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1} collected by LHCb at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, about 3800 Ξb0→Ξc+π−Ξ_b^0\toΞ_c^+π^-, Ξc+→pK−π+Ξ_c^+\to pK^-π^+ signal decays are reconstructed. From this sample, the first measurement of the Ξb0Ξ_b^0 baryon lifetime is made, relative to that of the Λb0Λ_b^0 baryon. The mass differences M(Ξb0)−M(Λb0)M(Ξ_b^0)-M(Λ_b^0) and M(Ξc+)−M(Λc+)M(Ξ_c^+)-M(Λ_c^+) are also measured with precision more than four times better than the current world averages. The resulting values are τΞb0τΛb0=1.006±0.018±0.010\frac{τ_{Ξ_b^0}}{τ_{Λ_b^0}} = 1.006\pm0.018\pm0.010, M(Ξb0)−M(Λb0)=172.44±0.39±0.17MeV/c2M(Ξ_b^0) - M(Λ_b^0) = 172.44\pm0.39\pm0.17 MeV/c^2, M(Ξc+)−M(Λc+)=181.51±0.14±0.10MeV/c2M(Ξ_c^+) - M(Λ_c^+) = 181.51\pm0.14\pm0.10 MeV/c^2, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The relative rate of Ξb0Ξ_b^0 to Λb0Λ_b^0 baryon production is measured to be fΞb0fΛb0B(Ξb0→Ξc+π−)B(Λb0→Λc+π−)B(Ξc+→pK−π+)B(Λc+→pK−π+)=(1.88±0.04±0.03)×10−2\frac{f_{Ξ_b^0}}{f_{Λ_b^0}}\frac{\cal{B}(Ξ_b^0\toΞ_c^+π^-)}{\cal{B}(Λ_b^0\toΛ_c^+π^-)}\frac{\cal{B}(Ξ_c^+\to pK^-π^+)}{\cal{B}(Λ_c^+\to pK^-π^+)} = (1.88\pm0.04\pm0.03)\times10^{-2}, where the first factor is the ratio of fragmentation fractions, b→Ξb0b\toΞ_b^0 relative to b→Λb0b\toΛ_b^0. Relative production rates as functions of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity are also presented.

Precision measurement of the mass and lifetime of the Xi_b^- baryon

We report on measurements of the mass and lifetime of the Xi_b^- baryon using about 1800 Xi_b^- decays reconstructed in a proton-proton collision data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment. The decays are reconstructed in the Xi_b^- --> Xi_c^0 pi^-, Xi_c^0 --> pK-K-pi+ channel and the mass and lifetime are measured using the Lambda_b^0 --> Lambda_c^+ pi- mode as a reference. We measure M(Xi_b^-) - M(Lambda_b^0) = 178.36 +- 0.46 +- 0.16 MeV/c^2 and tau(Xi_b^-)/tau(Lambda_b^0) = 1.089 +- 0.026 +- 0.011, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These results lead to a factor of two better precision on the Xi_b^- mass and lifetime compared to previous best measurements, and are consistent with theoretical expectations.

Search for CPCP violation using TT-odd correlations in D0→K+K−π+π−D^0 \to K^+K^-π^+π^- decays

A search for CPCP violation using TT-odd correlations is performed using the four-body D0→K+K−π+π−D^0 \to K^+K^-π^+π^- decay, selected from semileptonic BB decays. The data sample corresponds to integrated luminosities of 1.0 fb−11.0\,\text{fb}^{-1} and 2.0 fb−12.0\,\text{fb}^{-1} recorded at the centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, respectively. The CPCP-violating asymmetry aCPT-odda_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}} is measured to be (0.18±0.29(stat)±0.04(syst))%(0.18\pm 0.29\text{(stat)}\pm 0.04\text{(syst)})\%. Searches for CPCP violation in different regions of phase space of the four-body decay, and as a function of the D0D^0 decay time, are also presented. No significant deviation from the CPCP conservation hypothesis is found.

Search for CP violation in D±→KS0K±D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm} and Ds±→KS0π±D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} π^{\pm} decays

A search for \CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed D±→KS0K±D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm} and Ds±→KS0π±D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} π^{\pm} decays is performed using pppp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3~fb−1^{-1}, recorded by the LHCb experiment. The individual CPCP-violating asymmetries are measured to be \begin{eqnarray*} \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm}} & = & (+0.03 \pm 0.17 \pm 0.14) \% \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} π^{\pm}} & = & (+0.38 \pm 0.46 \pm 0.17) \%, \end{eqnarray*} assuming that CPCP violation in the Cabibbo-favoured decays is negligible. A combination of the measured asymmetries for the four decay modes D(s)±→KS0K±D^{\pm}_{(s)}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm} and D(s)±→KS0π±D^{\pm}_{(s)}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} π^{\pm} gives the sum ACPD±→KS0K±+ACPDs±→KS0π±=(+0.41±0.49±0.26)%. \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm}} + \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} π^{\pm}} = (+0.41 \pm 0.49 \pm 0.26) \%. In all cases, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results represent the most precise measurements of these asymmetries to date and show no evidence for CP violation.

Search for CP violation in D0→π−π+π0D^0\toπ^-π^+π^0 decays with the energy test

A search for time-integrated CP violation in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D0→π−π+π0D^0\toπ^-π^+π^0 is performed using for the first time an unbinned model-independent technique known as the energy test. Using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb−1^{-1} collected by the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of s\sqrt{s} = 8 TeV, the world's best sensitivity to CP violation in this decay is obtained. The data are found to be consistent with the hypothesis of CP symmetry with a p-value of (2.6 +/- 0.5)%.

Study of η−η′η-η^{\prime} mixing from measurement of B(s)0→J/ψη(′)B^0_{(s)} \rightarrow J/ψη^{(\prime)}~decay rates

A study of B0B^0~and Bs0B^0_s meson decays into J/ψηJ/ψη~and J/ψη′J/ψη^{\prime} final states is performed using a data set of proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to 3.0fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. The decay B0→J/ψη′B^0 \rightarrow J/ψη^{\prime} is observed for thefirst time. The following ratios of branching fractions are measured: B(B0→J/ψη′)B(Bs0→J/ψη′)=(2.28±0.65 (stat) ±0.10 (syst) ±0.13 (fs/fd))×10−2, \frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow J/ψη^{\prime})}{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \rightarrow J/ψη^{\prime})} = (2.28\pm0.65\,(stat)\,\pm0.10\,(syst)\,\pm0.13\,(f_{s}/f_{d}))\times10^{-2}, B(B0→J/ψη)B(Bs0→J/ψη)=(1.85±0.61 (stat) ±0.09 (syst) ±0.11 (fs/fd))×10−2, \frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow J/ψη)}{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \rightarrow J/ψη)} = (1.85\pm0.61\,(stat)\,\pm0.09\,(syst)\,\pm0.11\,(f_{s}/f_{d}))\times10^{-2}, where the third uncertainty is related to the present knowledge of fs/fdf_{s}/f_{d}, the ratio between the probabilities for a bb quark to form a Bs0B^0_s or B0B^0 meson. The branching fraction ratios are used to determine the parameters of η−η′η-η^{\prime} meson mixing. In addition, the first evidence for the decay Bs0→ψ(2S)η′B^0_s \rightarrow ψ(2S) η^{\prime} is reported, and the relative branching fraction is measured, B(Bs0→ψ(2S)η′)B(Bs0→J/ψη′)=(38.7±9.0 (stat) ±1.3 (syst) ±0.9(B))×10−2,\frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \rightarrow ψ(2S) η^{\prime})}{\mathcal{B}(B^0_s \rightarrow J/ψη^{\prime})} = (38.7\pm9.0\,(stat)\,\pm1.3\,(syst)\,\pm0.9(\mathcal{B}))\times10^{-2}, where the third uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of the branching fractions of J/ψJ/ψ and ψ(2S)ψ(2S)~mesons.

Study of ΥΥ production and cold nuclear matter effects in pPb collisions at sNN=5 TeV\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5~\mathrm{TeV}

Production of ΥΥ mesons in proton-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy sNN=5TeV\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5 \mathrm{TeV} is studied with the LHCb detector. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.6nb−11.6 \mathrm{nb}^{-1}. The ΥΥ mesons of transverse momenta up to 15GeV/c15 \mathrm{GeV}/c are reconstructed in the dimuon decay mode. The rapidity coverage in the centre-of-mass system is 1.5<y<4.01.5<y<4.0 (forward region) and −5.0<y<−2.5-5.0<y<-2.5 (backward region). The forward-backward production ratio and the nuclear modification factor for Υ(1S)Υ(1S) mesons are determined. The data are compatible with the predictions for a suppression of Υ(1S)Υ(1S) production with respect to proton-proton collisions in the forward region, and an enhancement in the backward region. The suppression is found to be smaller than in the case of prompt J/ψJ/ψ mesons.
