A double integral of dlog forms which is not polylogarithmic

Feynman integrals are central to all calculations in perturbative Quantum Field Theory. They often give rise to iterated integrals of dlog-forms with algebraic arguments, which in many cases can be evaluated in terms of multiple polylogarithms. This has led to certain folklore beliefs in the community stating that all such integrals evaluate to polylogarithms. Here we discuss a concrete example of a double iterated integral of two dlog-forms that evaluates to a period of a cusp form. The motivic versions of these integrals are shown to be algebraically independent from all multiple polylogarithms evaluated at algebraic arguments. From a mathematical perspective, we study a mixed elliptic Hodge structure arising from a simple geometric configuration in $\mathbb{P}^2$, consisting of a modular plane elliptic curve and a set of lines which meet it at torsion points, which may provide an interesting worked example from the point of view of periods, extensions of motives, and L-functions.

Depth-graded motivic multiple zeta values

We study the depth filtration on multiple zeta values, the motivic Galois group of mixed Tate motives over $\mathbb{Z}$ and the Grothendieck-Teichmüller group, and its relation to modular forms. Using period polynomials for cusp forms for $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$, we construct an explicit Lie algebra of solutions to the linearized double shuffle equations, which gives a conjectural description of all identities between multiple zeta values modulo $ζ(2)$ and modulo lower depth. We formulate a single conjecture about the homology of this Lie algebra which implies conjectures due to Broadhurst-Kreimer, Racinet, Zagier and Drinfeld on the structure of multiple zeta values and on the Grothendieck-Teichmüller Lie algebra.

Periods and Feynman amplitudes

Feynman amplitudes in perturbation theory form the basis for most predictions in particle collider experiments. The mathematical quantities which occur as amplitudes include values of the Riemann zeta function and relate to fundamental objects in number theory and algebraic geometry. This talk reviews some of the recent developments in this field, and explains how new ideas from algebraic geometry have led to much progress in our understanding of amplitudes. In particular, the idea that certain transcendental numbers, such as $π$, can be viewed as a representation of a group, provides a powerful framework to study amplitudes which reveals many hidden structures.

Zeta elements in depth 3 and the fundamental Lie algebra of a punctured elliptic curve

This paper draws connections between the double shuffle equations and structure of associators; universal mixed elliptic motives as defined by Hain and Matsumoto; and the Rankin-Selberg method for modular forms for $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$. We write down explicit formulae for zeta elements $σ_{2n-1}$ (generators of the Tannaka Lie algebra of the category of mixed Tate motives over $\mathbb{Z}$) in depths up to four, give applications to the Broadhurst-Kreimer conjecture, and completely solve the double shuffle equations for multiple zeta values in depths two and three.

Irrationality proofs for zeta values, moduli spaces and dinner parties

A simple geometric construction on the moduli spaces $\mathcal{M}_{0,n}$ of curves of genus $0$ with $n$ ordered marked points is described which gives a common framework for many irrationality proofs for zeta values. This construction yields Apéry's approximations to $ζ(2)$ and $ζ(3)$, and for larger $n$, an infinite family of small linear forms in multiple zeta values with an interesting algebraic structure. It also contains a generalisation of the linear forms used by Ball and Rivoal to prove that infinitely many odd zeta values are irrational.

Dedekind Zeta motives for totally real fields

Let $k$ be a totally real number field. For every odd $n\geq 3$, we construct a Dedekind zeta motive in the category $\MT(k)$ of mixed Tate motives over $k$. By directly calculating its Hodge realisation, we prove that its period is a rational multiple of $π^{n[k:\Q]}ζ^*_k(1-n)$, where $ζ^*_k(1-n)$ denotes the special value of the Dedekind zeta function of $k$. We deduce that the group $\Ext^1_{\MT(k)} (\Q(0),\Q(n))$ is generated by the cohomology of a quadric relative to hyperplanes. This proves a surjectivity result for certain motivic complexes for $k$ that have been conjectured to calculate the groups $\Ext^1_{\MT(k)} (\Q(0),\Q(n))$. In particular, the special value of the Dedekind zeta function is a determinant of volumes of geodesic hyperbolic simplices defined over $k$.

Framings for graph hypersurfaces

We present a method for computing the framing on the cohomology of graph hypersurfaces defined by the Feynman differential form. This answers a question of Bloch, Esnault and Kreimer in the affirmative for an infinite class of graphs for which the framings are Tate motives. Applying this method to the modular graphs of Brown and Schnetz, we find that the Feynman differential form is not of Tate type in general. This finally disproves a folklore conjecture stating that the periods of Feynman integrals of primitive graphs in phi^4 theory factorise through a category of mixed Tate motives.

Proof of the zig-zag conjecture

A long-standing conjecture in quantum field theory due to Broadhurst and Kreimer states that the amplitudes of the zig-zag graphs are a certain explicit rational multiple of the odd values of the Riemann zeta function. In this paper we prove this conjecture by constructing a certain family of single-valued multiple polylogarithms. The zig-zag graphs therefore provide the only infinite family of primitive graphs in $ϕ^4_4$ theory (in fact, in any renormalisable quantum field theory in four dimensions) whose amplitudes are now known.

Properties of c_2 invariants of Feynman graphs

The c_2 invariant of a Feynman graph is an arithmetic invariant which detects many properties of the corresponding Feynman integral. In this paper, we define the c_2 invariant in momentum space and prove that it equals the c_2 invariant in parametric space for overall log-divergent graphs. Then we show that the c_2 invariant of a graph vanishes whenever it contains subdivergences. Finally, we investigate how the c_2 invariant relates to identities such as the four-term relation in knot theory.
