First quantization of braided Majorana fermions

A ${\mathbb Z}_2$-graded qubit represents an even (bosonic) "vacuum state" and an odd, excited, Majorana fermion state. The multiparticle sectors of $N$, braided, indistinguishable Majorana fermions are constructed via first quantization. The framework is that of a graded Hopf algebra endowed with a braided tensor product. The Hopf algebra is ${U}({\mathfrak {gl}}(1|1))$, the Universal Enveloping Algebra of the ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1|1)$ superalgebra. A $4\times 4$ braiding matrix $B_t$ defines the braided tensor product. $B_t$, which is related to the $R$-matrix of the Alexander-Conway polynomial, depends on the braiding parameter $t$ belonging to the punctured plane ($t\in {\mathbb C}^\ast$); the ordinary antisymmetry property of fermions is recovered for $t=1$. For each $N$, the graded dimension $m|n$ of the graded multiparticle Hilbert space is computed. Besides the generic case, truncations occur when $t$ coincides with certain roots of unity which appear as solutions of an ordered set of polynomial equations. The roots of unity are organized into levels which specify the maximal number of allowed braided Majorana fermions in a multiparticle sector. By taking into account that the even/odd sectors in a ${\mathbb Z}_2$-graded Hilbert space are superselected, a nontrivial braiding with $t\neq 1$ is essential to produce a nontrivial Hilbert space described by qubits, qutrits, etc., since at $t=1$ the $N$-particle vacuum and the antisymmetrized excited state encode the same information carried by a classical $1$-bit.

${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded parastatistics in multiparticle quantum Hamiltonians

The recent surge of interest in ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded invariant mechanics poses the challenge of understanding the physical consequences of a ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded symmetry. In this paper it is shown that non-trivial physics can be detected in the multiparticle sector of a theory, being induced by the ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded parastatistics obeyed by the particles. The toy model of the ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric/ ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded oscillator is used. In this set-up the one-particle energy levels and their degenerations are the same for both supersymmetric and ${\mathbb Z}_2\times{\mathbb Z}_2$-graded versions. Nevertheless, in the multiparticle sector, a measurement of an observable operator on suitable states can discriminate whether the system under consideration is composed by ordinary bosons/fermions or by ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded particles. Therefore, ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded mechanics has experimentally testable consequences. Furthermore, the ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-grading constrains the observables to obey a superselection rule. As a technical tool, the multiparticle sector is encoded in the coproduct of a Hopf algebra defined on a Universal Enveloping Algebra of a graded Lie superalgebra with a braided tensor product.

Chains of topological oscillators with instantons and calculable topological observables in topological quantum mechanics

We extend to a possibly infinite chain the conformally invariant mechanical system that was introduced earlier as a toy model for understanding the topological Yang-Mills theory. It gives a topological quantum model that has interesting and computable zero modes and topological invariants. It confirms the recent conjecture by several authors that supersymmetric quantum mechanics may provide useful tools for understanding robotic mechanical systems (Vitelli et al.) and condensed matter properties (Kane et al.), where trajectories of effective models are allowed or not by the conservation of topological indices. The absences of ground state and mass gaps are special features of such systems.

Symmetries of the Schrödinger Equation and Algebra/Superalgebra Duality

Some key features of the symmetries of the Schrödinger equation that are common to a much broader class of dynamical systems (some under construction) are illustrated. I discuss the algebra/superalgebra duality involving first and second-order differential operators. It provides different viewpoints for the spectrum-generating subalgebras. The representation-dependent notion of on-shell symmetry is introduced. The difference in associating the time-derivative symmetry operator with either a root or a Cartan generator of the $sl(2)$ subalgebra is discussed. In application to one-dimensional Lagrangian superconformal sigma-models it implies superconformal actions which are either supersymmetric or non-supersymmetric.

Critical D-module reps for finite superconformal algebras and their superconformal mechanics

The simple finite Lie superalgebras D(2,1;α), G(3), D(4,1), D(2,2), A(3,1) and F(4) admit D-module representations, given by a set of differential operators of a single real variable t, at a critical value of the scaling dimension λ. These superalgebras are one-dimensional N-extended superconformal algebras with N=4 (D(2,1;α)), N=7 (G(3)) and N=8 (the remaining ones). The critical D-module reps induce invariant actions in the Lagrangian framework for superconformal mechanics in D target dimensions. The N=8 critical scalings λ=1/(D-4) are linked to the D-dimensional harmonic functions with D=1,2,3,5,6,7,8. This talk is based on J. Math. Phys. 53 (2012) 043513 (arXiv:1112.0995), J. Math. Phys. 53 (2012) 103518 (arXiv:1208.3612) and some extra material.

Effects of Twisted Noncommutativity in Multi-particle Hamiltonians

The noncommutativity induced by a Drinfel'd twist produces Bopp-shift like transformations for deformed operators. In a single-particle setting the Drinfel'd twist allows to recover the noncommutativity obtained from various methods which are not based on Hopf algebras. In multi-particle sector, on the other hand, the Drinfel'd twist implies novel features. In conventional approaches to noncommutativity, deformed primitive operators are postulated to act additively. A Drinfel'd twist implies non-additive effects which are controlled by the coproduct. We illustrate these features for a class of (abelian twist-deformed) 2D Hamiltonians. Suitable choices of the parameters lead to the Hamiltonian of the noncommutative Quantum Hall Effect, the harmonic oscillator, the quantization of the configuration space. The non-additive effects in the multi-particle sector, leading to results departing from the existing literature, are pointed out.

Target duality in N=8 superconformal mechanics and the coupling of dual pairs

We couple dual pairs of N=8 superconformal mechanics with conical targets of dimension d and 8-d. The superconformal coupling generates an oscillator-type potential on each of the two target factors, with a frequency depending on the respective dual coordinates. In the case of the inhomogeneous (3,8,5) model, which entails a monopole background, it is necessary to add an extra supermultiplet of constants for half of the supersymmetry. The N=4 analog, joining an inhomogeneous (1,4,3) with a (3,4,1) multiplet, is also analyzed in detail.

An Unfolded Quantization for Twisted Hopf Algebras

In this talk I discuss a recently developed "Unfolded Quantization Framework". It allows to introduce a Hamiltonian Second Quantization based on a Hopf algebra endowed with a coproduct satisfying, for the Hamiltonian, the physical requirement of being a primitive element. The scheme can be applied to theories deformed via a Drinfeld twist. I discuss in particular two cases: the abelian twist deformation of a rotationally invariant nonrelativistic Quantum Mechanics (the twist induces a standard noncommutativity) and the Jordanian twist of the harmonic oscillator. In the latter case the twist induces a Snyder non-commutativity for the space-coordinates, with a pseudo-Hermitian deformed Hamiltonian. The "Unfolded Quantization Framework" unambiguously fixes the non-additive effective interactions in the multi-particle sector of the deformed quantum theory. The statistics of the particles is preserved even in the presence of a deformation.

Critical scaling dimension of D-module representations of N=4,7,8 Superconformal Algebras and constraints on Superconformal Mechanics

At critical values of the scaling dimension $λ$, supermultiplets of the global ${\cal N}$-Extended one-dimensional Supersymmetry algebra induce $D$-module representations of finite superconformal algebras (the latters being identified in terms of the global supermultiplet and its critical scaling dimension). For ${\cal N}=4,8$ and global supermultiplets $(k, {\cal N}, {\cal N}-k)$, the exceptional superalgebras $D(2,1;α)$ are recovered for ${\cal N}=4$, with a relation between $α$ and the scaling dimension given by $α= (2-k)λ$. For ${\cal N}=8$ and $k\neq 4$ all four ${\cal N}=8$ finite superconformal algebras are recovered, at the critical values $λ_k = \frac{1}{k-4}$, with the following identifications: D(4,1) for $k=0,8$, F(4) for $k=1,7$, A(3,1) for $k=2,6$ and D(2,2) for $k=3,5$. The ${\cal N}=7$ global supermultiplet $(1,7,7,1)$ induces, at $λ= -1/4$, a $D$-module representation of the exceptional superalgebra G(3). $D$-module representations are applicable to the construction of superconformal mechanics in a Lagrangian setting. The isomorphism of the $D(2,1;α)$ algebras under an $S_3$ group action on $α$, coupled with the relation between $α$ and the scaling dimension $λ$, induces non-trivial constraints on the admissible models of ${\cal N}=4$ superconformal mechanics. The existence of new superconformal models is pointed out. E.g., coupled $(1,4,3)$ and $(3,4,1)$ supermultiplets generate an ${\cal N}=4$ superconformal mechanics if $λ$ is related to the golden ratio. The relation between classical versus quantum $D$-module representations is presented.

Pure and entangled N=4 linear supermultiplets and their one-dimensional sigma-models

"Pure" homogeneous linear supermultiplets (minimal and non-minimal) of the N=4-Extended one-dimensional Supersymmetry Algebra are classified. "Pure" means that they admit at least one graphical presentation (the corresponding graph/graphs are known as "Adinkras"). We further prove the existence of "entangled" linear supermultiplets which do not admit a graphical presentation, by constructing an explicit example of an entangled N=4 supermultiplet with field content (3,8,5). It interpolates between two inequivalent pure N=4 supermultiplets with the same field content. The one-dimensional N=4 sigma-model with a three-dimensional target based on the entangled supermultiplet is presented. The distinction between the notion of equivalence for pure supermultiplets and the notion of equivalence for their associated graphs (Adinkras) is discussed. Discrete properties such as chirality and coloring can discriminate different supermultiplets. The tools used in our classification include, among others, the notion of field content, connectivity symbol, commuting group, node choice group and so on.

Twisted Superalgebras and Cohomologies of the N=2 Superconformal Quantum Mechanics

We prove that the invariance of the N=2 superconformal quantum mechanics is controlled by subalgebras of a given twisted superalgebra made of 6 fermionic (nilpotent) generators and 6 bosonic generators (including a central charge). The superconformal quantum mechanics actions are invariant under this quite large twisted superalgebra. On the other hand, they are fully determined by a subalgebra with only 2 fermionic and 2 bosonic (the central charge and the ghost number) generators. The invariant actions are Q_i-exact (i=1,2,...,6), with a Q_{i'}-exact (i'\neq i) antecedent for all 6 fermionic generators. It follows that the superconformal quantum mechanics actions with Calogero potentials are uniquely determined even if, in its bosonic sector, the twisted superalgebra does not contain the one-dimensional conformal algebra sl(2), but only its Borel subalgebra. The general coordinate covariance of the non-linear sigma-model for the N=2 supersymmetric quantum mechanics in a curved target space is fully implied only by its worldline invariance under a pair of the 6 twisted supersymmetries. The transformation connecting the ordinary and twisted formulations of the N=2 superconformal quantum mechanics is explicitly presented.

An N=8 superconformal particle in the half-plane

By imposing global supersymmetry and scale invariance we construct an N=8 superconformal mechanical system based on the inhomogeneous (2,8,6) linear multiplet. The unique action describes a special K"ahler sigma model with a Calogero-type potential and Fayet-Iliopoulos terms. The classical dynamics of the two propagating bosons is restricted to a (warped) half-plane and bounded. We numerically inspect typical trajectories of this special particle.

D-module Representations of N=2,4,8 Superconformal Algebras and Their Superconformal Mechanics

The linear (homogeneous and inhomogeneous) (k, N, N-k) supermultiplets of the N-extended one-dimensional Supersymmetry Algebra induce D-module representations for the N=2,4,8 superconformal algebras. For N=2, the D-module representations of the A(1,0) superalgebra are obtained. For N=4 and scaling dimension λ=0, the D-module representations of the A(1,1) superalgebra are obtained. For $λ\neq 0$, the D-module representations of the D(2,1;α) superalgebras are obtained, with $α$ determined in terms of the scaling dimension $λ$ according to: $α=-2λ$ for k=4, i.e. the (4,4) supermultiplet, $α=-λ$ for k=3, i.e. (3,4,1), and $α=λ$ for k=1, i.e. (1,4,3). For $λ\neq 0$ the (2,4,2) supermultiplet induces a D-module representation for the centrally extended sl(2|2) superalgebra. For N=8, the (8,8) root supermultiplet induces a D-module representation of the D(4,1) superalgebra at the fixed value $λ=1/4$. A Lagrangian framework to construct one-dimensional, off-shell, superconformal invariant actions from single-particle and multi-particles D-module representations is discussed. It is applied to explicitly construct invariant actions for the homogeneous and inhomogeneous N=4 (1,4,3) D-module representations (in the last case for several interacting supermultiplets of different chirality).

One-dimensional structures behind twisted and untwisted superYang-Mills theory

We give a one-dimensional interpretation of the four-dimensional twisted N=1 superYang-Mills theory on a Kaehler manifold by performing an appropriate dimensional reduction. We prove the existence of a 6-generator superalgebra, which does not possess any invariant Lagrangian but contains two different subalgebras that determine the twisted and untwisted formulations of the N=1 superYang-Mills theory.

Extended Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics of Fierz and Schur Type

We discuss two independent constructions to introduce an N-extended Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics. The first one makes use of the Fierz identities while the second one (divided into two subcases) makes use of the Schur lemma. The N supercharges Q_I are square roots of a free Hamiltonian H given by the tensor product of a D-dimensional Laplacian and a 2d-dimensional identity matrix operator. We present the mutual relations among N, D and d. The mod 8 Bott's periodicity of Clifford algebras is encoded, in the Fierz case, in the Radon-Hurwitz function and, in the Schur case, in an extra independent function.

On non-minimal N=4 supermultiplets in 1D and their associated sigma-models

We construct the non-minimal linear representations of the N=4 Extended Supersymmetry in one-dimension. They act on 8 bosonic and 8 fermionic fields. Inequivalent representations are specified by the mass-dimension of the fields and the connectivity of the associated graphs. The oxidation to minimal N=5 linear representations is given. Two types of N=4 sigma-models based on non-minimal representations are obtained: the resulting off-shell actions are either manifestly invariant or depend on a constrained prepotential. The connectivity properties of the graphs play a decisive role in discriminating inequivalent actions. These results find application in partial breaking of supersymmetric theories.

A natural fuzzyness of de Sitter space-time

A non-commutative structure for de Sitter spacetime is naturally introduced by replacing ("fuzzyfication") the classical variables of the bulk in terms of the dS analogs of the Pauli-Lubanski operators. The dimensionality of the fuzzy variables is determined by a Compton length and the commutative limit is recovered for distances much larger than the Compton distance. The choice of the Compton length determines different scenarios. In scenario I the Compton length is determined by the limiting Minkowski spacetime. A fuzzy dS in scenario I implies a lower bound (of the order of the Hubble mass) for the observed masses of all massive particles (including massive neutrinos) of spin s>0. In scenario II the Compton length is fixed in the de Sitter spacetime itself and grossly determines the number of finite elements ("pixels" or "granularity") of a de Sitter spacetime of a given curvature.

On Alphabetic Presentations of Clifford Algebras and Their Possible Applications

In this paper we address the problem of constructing a class of representations of Clifford algebras that can be named "alphabetic (re)presentations". The Clifford algebras generators are expressed as m-letter words written with a 3-character or a 4-character alphabet. We formulate the problem of the alphabetic presentations, deriving the main properties and some general results. At the end we briefly discuss the motivations of this work and outline some possible applications.

Second Hopf map and Yang-Coulomb system on 5d (pseudo)sphere

Using the second Hopf map, we perform the reduction of the eight-dimensional (pseudo)spherical (Higgs)oscillator to a five-dimensional system interacting with a Yang monopole. Then, using a standard trick, we obtain, from the latter system, the pseudospherical and spherical generalizations of the Yang-Coulomb system (the five dimensional analog of MICZ-Kepler system). We present the whole set of its constants of motions, including the hidden symmetry generators given by the analog of Runge-Lenz vector. In the same way, starting from the eight-dimensional anisotropic inharmonic Higgs oscillator, we construct the integrable (pseudo)spherical generalization of the Yang-Coulomb system with the Stark term.

On the Octonionic M-algebra and Superconformal M-algebra

It is shown that the $M$-algebra related with the $M$ theory comes in two variants. Besides the standard $M$ algebra based on the real structure, an alternative octonionic formulation can be consistently introduced. This second variant has striking features. It involves only 52 real bosonic generators instead of 528 of the standard $M$ algebra and moreover presents a novel and surprising feature, its octonionic $M5$ (super-5-brane) sector is no longer independent, but coincides with the octonionic $M1$ and $M2$ sectors. This is in consequence of the non-associativity of the octonions. An octonionic version of the superconformal $M$-algebra also exists. It is given by $OSp(1,8|{\bf O})$ and admits 239 bosonic and 64 fermionic generators. It is speculated that the octonionic $M$-algebra can be related to the exceptional Lie and Jordan algebras that apparently play a special role in the Theory Of Everything.

Generalized Space-time Supersymmetries, Division Algebras and Octonionic M-theory

We describe the set of generalized Poincare and conformal superalgebras in D=4,5 and 7 dimensions as two sequences of superalgebraic structures, taking values in the division algebras R, C and H. The generalized conformal superalgebras are described for D=4 by OSp(1;8| R), for D=5 by SU(4,4;1) and for D=7 by U_αU(8;1|H). The relation with other schemes, in particular the framework of conformal spin (super)algebras and Jordan (super)algebras is discussed. By extending the division-algebra-valued superalgebras to octonions we get in D=11 an octonionic generalized Poincare superalgebra, which we call octonionic M-algebra, describing the octonionic M-theory. It contains 32 real supercharges but, due to the octonionic structure, only 52 real bosonic generators remain independent in place of the 528 bosonic charges of standard M-algebra. In octonionic M-theory there is a sort of equivalence between the octonionic M2 (supermembrane) and the octonionic M5 (super-5-brane) sectors. We also define the octonionic generalized conformal M-superalgebra, with 239 bosonic generators.

On anomalies in classical dynamical systems

The definition of "classical anomaly" is introduced. It describes the situation in which a purely classical dynamical system which presents both a lagrangian and a hamiltonian formulation admits symmetries of the action for which the Noether conserved charges, endorsed with the Poisson bracket structure, close an algebra which is just the centrally extended version of the original symmetry algebra. The consistency conditions for this to occur are derived. Explicit examples are given based on simple two-dimensional models. Applications of the above scheme and lines of further investigations are suggested.

Hamiltonian Reduction of Supersymmetric WZNW Models on Bosonic Groups and Superstrings

It is shown that an alternative supersymmetric version of the Liouville equation extracted from D=3 Green-Schwarz superstring equations naturally arises as a super-Toda model obtained from a properly constrained supersymmetric WZNW theory based on the $sl(2, R)$ algebra. Hamiltonian reduction is performed by imposing a nonlinear superfield constraint which turns out to be a mixture of a first- and second-class constraint on supercurrent components. Supersymmetry of the model is realized nonlinearly and is spontaneously broken. The set of independent current fields which survive the Hamiltonian reduction contains (in the holomorphic sector) one bosonic current of spin 2 (the stress--tensor of the spin 0 Liouville mode) and two fermionic fields of spin ${3/2}$ and $-1/2$. The $n=1$ superconformal system thus obtained is of the same kind as one describing noncritical fermionic strings in a universal string theory. The generalization of this procedure allows one to produce from any bosonic Lie algebra super--Toda models and associated super-W algebras together with their nonstandard realizations.

On Matrix KP and Super-KP Hierarchies in the Homogeneous Grading

Constrained KP and super-KP hierarchies of integrable equations (generalized NLS hierarchies) are systematically produced through a Lie algebraic AKS-matrix framework associated to the homogeneous grading. The role played by different regular elements to define the corresponding hierarchies is analyzed as well as the symmetry properties under the Weyl group transformations. The coset structure of higher order hamiltonian densities is proven.\par For a generic Lie algebra the hierarchies here considered are integrable and essentially dependent on continuous free parameters. The bosonic hierarchies studied in \cite{{FK},{AGZ}} are obtained as special limit restrictions on hermitian symmetric-spaces.\par In the supersymmetric case the homogeneous grading is introduced consistently by using alternating sums of bosons and fermions in the spectral parameter power series.\par The bosonic hierarchies obtained from ${\hat {sl(3)}}$ and the supersymmetric ones derived from the $N=1$ affinization of $sl(2)$, $sl(3)$ and $osp(1|2)$ are explicitly constructed. \par An unexpected result is found: only a restricted subclass of the $sl(3)$ bosonic hierarchies can be supersymmetrically extended while preserving integrability.

N=1,2 Super-NLS Hierarchies as Super-KP Coset Reductions

We define consistent finite-superfields reductions of the $N=1,2$ super-KP hierarchies via the coset approach we already developped for reducing the bosonic KP-hierarchy (generating e.g. the NLS hierarchy from the $sl(2)/U(1)-{\cal KM}$ coset). We work in a manifestly supersymmetric framework and illustrate our method by treating explicitly the $N=1,2$ super-NLS hierarchies. W.r.t. the bosonic case the ordinary covariant derivative is now replaced by a spinorial one containing a spin ${\textstyle {1\over 2}}$ superfield. Each coset reduction is associated to a rational super-$\cw$ algebra encoding a non-linear super-$\cw_\infty$ algebra structure. In the $N=2$ case two conjugate sets of superLax operators, equations of motion and infinite hamiltonians in involution are derived. Modified hierarchies are obtained from the original ones via free-fields mappings (just as a m-NLS equation arises by representing the $sl(2)-{\cal KM}$ algebra through the classical Wakimoto free-fields).
