Mixing of the Averaging process and its discrete dual on finite-dimensional geometries

We analyze the $L^1$-mixing of a generalization of the Averaging process introduced by Aldous. The process takes place on a growing sequence of graphs which we assume to be finite-dimensional, in the sense that the random walk on those geometries satisfies a family of Nash inequalities. As a byproduct of our analysis, we provide a complete picture of the total variation mixing of a discrete dual of the Averaging process, which we call Binomial Splitting process. A single particle of this process is essentially the random walk on the underlying graph. When several particles evolve together, they interact by synchronizing their jumps when placed on neighboring sites. We show that, given $k$ the number of particles and $n$ the (growing) size of the underlying graph, the system exhibits cutoff in total variation if $k\to\infty$ and $k=O(n^2)$. Finally, we exploit the duality between the two processes to show that the Binomial Splitting satisfies a version of Aldous' spectral gap identity, namely, the relaxation time of the process is independent of the number of particles.

Symmetric simple exclusion process in dynamic environment: hydrodynamics

We consider the symmetric simple exclusion process in $\mathbb Z^d$ with quenched bounded dynamic random conductances and prove its hydrodynamic limit in path space. The main tool is the connection, due to the self-duality of the process, between the invariance principle for single particles starting from all points and the macroscopic behavior of the density field. While the hydrodynamic limit at fixed macroscopic times is obtained via a generalization to the time-inhomogeneous context of the strategy introduced in \cite{nagy_symmetric_2002}, in order to prove tightness for the sequence of empirical density fields we develop a new criterion based on the notion of uniform conditional stochastic continuity, following \cite{varadhan_stochasticprocesses_2007}. In conclusion, we show that uniform elliptic dynamic conductances provide an example of environments in which the so-called arbitrary starting point invariance principle may be derived from the invariance principle of a single particle starting from the origin. Therefore, our hydrodynamics result applies to the examples of quenched environments considered in, e.g.,\ \cite{andres2014}, \cite{andres_quenched_2018}, \cite{biskup_invariance_2019} in combination with the hypothesis of uniform ellipticity.

Duality and stationary distributions of the "Immediate Exchange Model" and its generalizations

We prove that the "Immediate Exchange Model" of econophysics has a discrete dual, where the duality functions are those connecting the Brownian Energy Process and the Symmetric Inclusion Process. As a consequence, we recover invariance of products of Gamma distributions with shape parameter 2, and obtain ergodicity results. Next we show similar properties of a generalized model, where the exchange fraction is $Beta(s,t)$ distributed (instead of uniform), and product measures with $\mbox{Gamma}(s+t)$ marginals are invariant. We prove that the discrete dual has the self-duality property, and prove full SU(1,1) for both the continuous and discrete model.
