An Enigmatic PeVatron in an Area around HII Region G35.6$-$0.5

Identifying Galactic PeVatrons (PeV particle accelerators) from the ultra-high-energy (UHE, >100 TeV) $γ$-ray sources plays a crucial role in revealing the origin of Galactic cosmic rays. The UHE source 1LHAASO J1857+0203u is suggested to be associated with HESS J1858+020, which may be attributed to the possible PeVatron candidate supernova remnant (SNR) G35.6$-$0.4 or HII region G35.6$-$0.5. We perform detailed analysis on the very-high-energy and UHE $γ$-ray emissions towards this region with data from the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). 1LHAASO J1857+0203u is detected with a significance of 11.6$σ$ above 100 TeV, indicating the presence of a PeVatron. It has an extension of $\sim 0.18^\circ$ with a power-law (PL) spectral index of $\sim$2.5 in 1-25 TeV and a point-like emission with a PL spectral index of $\sim$3.2 above 25 TeV. Using the archival CO and HI data, we identify some molecular and atomic clouds that may be associated with the TeV $γ$-ray emissions. Our modelling indicates that the TeV $γ$-ray emissions are unlikely to arise from the clouds illuminated by the protons that escaped from SNR G35.6$-$0.4. In the scenario that HII region G35.6$-$0.5 could accelerate particles to the UHE band, the observed GeV-TeV $γ$-ray emission could be well explained by a hadronic model with a PL spectral index of $\sim$2.0 and cutoff energy of $\sim$450 TeV. However, an evolved pulsar wind nebula origin cannot be ruled out.

An Ultrahigh-energy $γ$-ray Bubble Powered by a Super PeVatron

We report the detection of a $γ$-ray bubble spanning at least 100$\rm deg^2$ in ultra high energy (UHE) up to a few PeV in the direction of the star-forming region Cygnus X, implying the presence Super PeVatron(s) accelerating protons to at least 10 PeV. A log-parabola form with the photon index $Γ(E) = (2.71 \pm 0.02) + (0.11 \pm 0.02) \times \log_{10} (E/10 \ {\rm TeV})$ is found fitting the gamma-ray energy spectrum of the bubble well. UHE sources, `hot spots' correlated with very massive molecular clouds, and a quasi-spherical amorphous $γ$-ray emitter with a sharp central brightening are observed in the bubble. In the core of $\sim 0.5^{\circ}$, spatially associating with a region containing massive OB association (Cygnus OB2) and a microquasar (Cygnus X-3), as well as previously reported multi-TeV sources, an enhanced concentration of UHE $γ$-rays are observed with 2 photons at energies above 1 PeV. The general feature of the bubble, the morphology and the energy spectrum, are reasonably reproduced by the assumption of a particle accelerator in the core, continuously injecting protons into the ambient medium.

Evidence for particle acceleration approaching PeV energies in the W51 complex

The $γ$-ray emission from the W51 complex is widely acknowledged to be attributed to the interaction between the cosmic rays (CRs) accelerated by the shock of supernova remnant (SNR) W51C and the dense molecular clouds in the adjacent star-forming region, W51B. However, the maximum acceleration capability of W51C for CRs remains elusive. Based on observations conducted with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), we report a significant detection of $γ$ rays emanating from the W51 complex, with energies from 2 TeV to 200 TeV. The LHAASO measurements, for the first time, extend the $γ$-ray emission from the W51 complex beyond 100 TeV and reveal a significant spectrum bending at tens of TeV. By combining the ``$π^0$-decay bump" featured data from Fermi-LAT, the broadband $γ$-ray spectrum of the W51 region can be well-characterized by a simple pp-collision model. The observed spectral bending feature suggests an exponential cutoff at $\sim400$~TeV or a power-law break at $\sim200$~TeV in the CR proton spectrum, most likely providing the first evidence of SNRs serving as CR accelerators approaching the PeV regime. Additionally, two young star clusters within W51B could also be theoretically viable to produce the most energetic $γ$ rays observed by LHAASO. Our findings strongly support the presence of extreme CR accelerators within the W51 complex and provide new insights into the origin of Galactic CRs.

General Exceptional Points

Exceptional points are interesting physical phenomena in non-Hermitian physics at which the eigenvalues are degenerate and the eigenvectors coalesce. In this paper, we find that the universal feature of arbitrary non-Hermitian two level systems with singularities is basis defectiveness rather than energy degeneracy or state coalescence. This leads to the discovery of general exceptional points (GEPs). For GEPs, more subtle structures (e.g., Bloch peach), additional classification, and' 'hidden" quantum phase transitions are explored. By using the topologically protected subspace from two edge states in the non-Hermitian SSH model as an example, we illustrate the physical properties of different types of GEPs.

Anisotropic transport and quantum oscillations in the quasi-one-dimensional TaNiTe5: Evidence for the nontrivial band topology

The past decade has witnessed the burgeoning discovery of a variety of topological states of matter with distinct nontrivial band topologies. Thus far, most of materials studied possess two-dimensional or three-dimensional electronic structures, with only a few exceptions that host quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) topological electronic properties. Here we present the clear-cut evidence for Dirac fermions in the quasi-1D telluride TaNiTe5. We show that its transport behaviors are highly anisotropic and we observe nontrivial Berry phases via the quantum oscillation measurements. The nontrivial band topology is further corroborated by first-principles calculations. Our results may help to guide the future quest for topological states in this new family of quasi-1D ternary chalcogenides.

Theory of Higgs Modes in $d$-Wave Superconductors

By applying a microscopic gauge-invariant kinetic theory in $d$-wave superconductors, we analytically derive the energy spectra of the breathing Higgs mode and, in particular, rotating Higgs mode that is unique for the $d$-wave order parameter. Analytical investigation on their dynamic properties is also revealed. We show that the breathing Higgs mode is optically visible in the second-order regime. Whereas the rotating Higgs mode is optically inactive, we show that this mode can be detected in the pseudogap phase by magnetic resonance experiment. It is interesting to find that with a longitudinal temperature gradient, the charge-neutral rotating Higgs mode generates a thermal Hall current by magnetic field in the pseudogap phase, providing a unique scheme for its detection.

Experimentally well-constrained masses of $^{27}$P and $^{27}$S: Implications for studies of explosive binary systems

The mass of $^{27}$P was predicted to impact the X-ray burst (XRB) model predictions of burst light curves and the composition of the burst ashes. To address the uncertainties and inconsistencies in the reported $^{27}$P masses in literature, a wealth of information has been extracted from the $β$-decay spectroscopy of the drip-line nucleus $^{27}$S. We determine the most precise mass excess of $^{27}$P to date to be $-659(9)$~keV, which is 63~keV (2.3$σ$) higher than the AME2016 recommended value of $-722(26)$~keV. The experimentally unknown mass excess of $^{27}$S was estimated to be 17030(400)~keV in AME2016, and we constrain this mass to be 17678(77)~keV based on the measured $β$-delayed two-proton energy. In the temperature region of $(0.06-0.3)$~GK, the $^{26}$Si$(p,γ)^{27}$P reaction rate determined in this work is significantly lower than the rate recommended in the reaction rate libraries, up to two orders of magnitude around 0.1~GK. The impact of these newly determined masses and well-constrained rate on the modeling of the explosive astrophysical scenarios has been explored by hydrodynamic nova and post-processing XRB models. No substantial change was found in the nova contribution to the synthesis of galactic $^{26}$Al or in the XRB energy generation rate, but we found that the calculated abundances of $^{26}$Al and $^{26}$Si at the last stage of XRB are increased by a factor of 2.4. We also conclude that $^{27}$S is not a significant waiting point in the rapid proton capture process.

Simultaneous measurement of beta-delayed proton and gamma emission of $^{26}$P for $^{25}$Al($p,γ$)$^{26}$Si reaction rate

$β$ decay of $^{26}$P was used to populate the astrophysically important $E_x=$5929.4(8) keV $J^π=3{^+}$ state of $^{26}$Si. Both $β$-delayed proton at 418(8) keV and gamma ray at 1742(2) keV emitted from this state were measured simultaneously for the first time with corresponding absolute intensities of 11.1(12)\% and 0.59(44)\%, respectively. Besides, shell model calculations with weakly bound effects were performed to investigate the decay properties of other resonant states and a spin-parity of $4^+$ rather than $0^+$ was favored for the $E_x=$5945.9(40) keV state. Combining the experimental results and theoretical calculations, $^{25}$Al($p,γ$)$^{26}$Si reaction rate in explosive hydrogen burning environments was calculated and compared with previous studies.

Model-independent determination of the strong-phase difference between D^0 and D^0-bar-> K^0_S,L h^+ h^- (h=pi,K) and its impact on the measurement of the CKM angle gamma/phi_3

We report the first determination of the relative strong-phase difference between D^0 -> K^0_S,L K^+ K^- and D^0-bar -> K^0_S,L K^+ K^-. In addition, we present updated measurements of the relative strong-phase difference between D^0 -> K^0_S,L pi^+ pi^- and D^0-bar -> K^0_S,L pi^+ pi^-. Both measurements exploit the quantum coherence between a pair of D^0 and D^0-bar mesons produced from psi(3770) decays. The strong-phase differences measured are important for determining the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle gamma/phi_3 in B^- -> K^- D^0-tilde decays, where D^0-tilde is a D^0 or D^0-bar meson decaying to K^0_S h^+ h^- (h=pi,K), in a manner independent of the model assumed to describe the D^0 -> K^0_S h^+ h^- decay. Using our results, the uncertainty in gamma/phi_3 due to the error on the strong-phase difference is expected to be between 1.7 and 3.9 degrees for an analysis using B^- K^- D^0-tilde D^0-tilde -> K^0_S pi^+ pi^- decays, and between 3.2 and 3.9 degrees for an analysis based on B^- -> K^- D^0-tilde, D^0-tilde -> K^0_S K^+ K^- decays. A measurement is also presented of the CP-odd fraction, F_-, of the decay D^0 -> K^0_S K^+ K^- in the region of the phi -> K^+ K^- resonance. We find that in a region within 0.01 GeV^2/c^4 of the nominal phi mass squared F_- > 0.91 at the 90% confidence level.

Spin diffusion in p-type bilayer WSe$_2$

We investigate the steady-state out-of-plane spin diffusion in p-type bilayer WSe2 in the presence of the Rashba spin-orbit coupling and Hartree-Fock effective magnetic field. The out-of-plane components of the Rashba spin-orbit coupling serve as the opposite Zeeman-like fields in the two valleys. Together with the identical Hartree-Fock effective magnetic fields, different total effective magnetic field strengths in the two valleys are obtained. It is further revealed that due to the valley-dependent total effective magnetic field strength, similar (different) spin-diffusion lengths in the two valleys are observed at small (large) spin injection. Nevertheless, it is shown that the intervalley hole-phonon scattering can suppress the difference in the spin-diffusion lengths at large spin injection due to the spin-conserving intervalley charge transfers with the opposite transfer directions between spin-up and -down holes. Moreover, with a fixed large pure spin injection, we predict the build-up of a steady-state valley polarization during the spin diffusion with the maximum along the diffusion direction being capable of exceeding 1 %. It is revealed that the valley polarization arises from the induced quasi hot-hole Fermi distributions with different effective hot-hole temperatures between spin-up and -down holes during the spin diffusion, leading to the different intervalley charge transfer rates in the opposite transfer directions. Additionally, it is also shown that by increasing the injected spin polarization, the hole density or the impurity density, the larger valley polarization can be obtained.

The decay characteristic of $^{22}$Si and its ground-state mass significantly affected by three-nucleon forces

The decay of the proton-rich nucleus $^{22}$Si was studied by a silicon array coupled with germanium clover detectors. Nine charged-particle groups are observed and most of them are recognized as $β$-delayed proton emission. A charged-particle group at 5600 keV is identified experimentally as $β$-delayed two-proton emission from the isobaric analog state of $^{22}$Al. Another charged-particle emission without any $β$ particle at the low energy less than 300 keV is observed. The half-life of $^{22}$Si is determined as 27.5 (18) ms. The experimental results of $β$-decay of $^{22}$Si are compared and in nice agreement with shell-model calculations. The mass excess of the ground state of $^{22}$Si deduced from the experimental data shows that three-nucleon (3N) forces with repulsive contributions have significant effects on nuclei near the proton drip line.

The self-consistent analysis for sub-barrier fusion enhancement effect in Ca + Ca and Ni + Ni

The fusion dynamic mechanism of heavy-ions at energies near the Coulomb barrier is complicated and still not very clear up to now. Accordingly, a self-consistent method based on the CCFULL calculations has been developed and applied for an ingoing study of the effect of the positive Q-value neutron transfer (PQNT) channels in this work. The typical experimental fusion data of Ca + Ca and Ni + Ni is analyzed within the unified calculation scheme. The PQNT effect in near-barrier fusion is further confirmed based on the self-consistent analysis and extracted quantitatively.

Hole spin relaxation in bilayer WSe$_2$

We investigate the hole spin relaxation due to the Rashba spin-orbit coupling induced by an external perpendicular electric field in bilayer WSe$_2$. The Rashba spin-orbit coupling coefficients in bilayer WSe$_2$ are constructed from the corresponding monolayer ones. In contrast to monolayer WSe$_2$, the out-of-plane component of the bilayer Rashba spin-orbit coupling acts as a Zeeman-like field with opposite directions but identical values in the two valleys. For in-plane spins, this Zeeman-like field, together with the intervalley hole-phonon scattering, opens an intervalley spin relaxation channel, which is found to dominate the in-plane spin relaxation in bilayer WSe$_2$ even at low temperature. For out-of-plane spins, this Zeeman-like field is superimposed by the identical Hartree-Fock effective magnetic fields in the two valleys, and hence different total effective magnetic fields between two valleys are obtained. Owing to the large difference of the total fields at large spin polarization, different out-of-plane spin relaxation times in the two valleys are obtained when the intervalley hole-phonon scattering is weak at low temperature and low hole density. This difference in the spin relaxation times can be suppressed by enhancing the intervalley hole-phonon scattering through increasing temperature or hole density. Moreover, at large spin polarization and low temperature, due to the weak intravalley hole-phonon scattering but relatively strong hole-hole Coulomb scattering, the fast spin precessions are found to result in a quasi hot-hole Fermi distribution characterized by an effective hot-hole temperature larger than the temperature, which also enhances the intervalley scattering. During this process, it is interesting to discover that the initially equal hole densities in the two valleys are broken in the temporal evolution, and a valley polarization is built up. ....

Molecular-beam epitaxy of monolayer and bilayer WSe2: A scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy study and deduction of exciton binding energy

Interests in two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides have prompted some recent efforts to grow ultrathin layers of these materials epitaxially using molecular-beam epitaxy. However, growths of monolayer and bilayer WSe2, an important member of the transition-metal dichalcogenides family, by the molecular-beam epitaxy method remain uncharted probably because of the difficulty in generating tungsten fluxes from the elemental source. In this work, we present a scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy study of molecular-beam epitaxy-grown WSe2 monolayer and bilayer, showing atomically flat epifilm with no domain boundary defect. This contrasts epitaxial MoSe2 films grown by the same method, where a dense network of the domain boudaries defects is present. The scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurements of monolayer and bilayer WSe2 domains of the same sample reveal not only the bandgap narrowing upon increasing the film thickness from monolayer to bilayer, but also a band-bending effect across the boundary between monolayer and bilayer domains. This band-bending appears to be dictated by the edge states at steps of the bilayer islands. Finally, comparison is made between the scanning tunneling spectroscopy-measured electronic bandgaps with the exciton emission energies measured by photoluminescence, and the exciton binding energies in monolayer and bilayer WSe2/MoSe2 are thus estimated.

Observation of the rare $B^0_s\toμ^+μ^-$ decay from the combined analysis of CMS and LHCb data

A joint measurement is presented of the branching fractions $B^0_s\toμ^+μ^-$ and $B^0\toμ^+μ^-$ in proton-proton collisions at the LHC by the CMS and LHCb experiments. The data samples were collected in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and in 2012 at 8 TeV. The combined analysis produces the first observation of the $B^0_s\toμ^+μ^-$ decay, with a statistical significance exceeding six standard deviations, and the best measurement of its branching fraction so far. Furthermore, evidence for the $B^0\toμ^+μ^-$ decay is obtained with a statistical significance of three standard deviations. The branching fraction measurements are statistically compatible with SM predictions and impose stringent constraints on several theories beyond the SM.

Optical control of internal electric fields in band-gap graded InGaN nanowires

InGaN nanowires are suitable building blocks for many future optoelectronic devices. We show that a linear grading of the indium content along the nanowire axis from GaN to InN introduces an internal electric field evoking a photocurrent. Consistent with quantitative band structure simulations we observe a sign change in the measured photocurrent as a function of photon flux. This negative differential photocurrent opens the path to a new type of nanowire-based photodetector. We demonstrate that the photocurrent response of the nanowires is as fast as 1.5 ps.

Fully Gapped s-wave-like Superconducting State and Electronic Structures in the Ir0.95Pd0.05Te2 Single Crystals with Strong Spin-orbital Coupling

Due to the large spin-orbital coupling in the layered 5d-transition metal chalcogenides compound, the occurrence of superconductivity in Ir2-xPdxTe2 offers a good chance to search for possible topological superconducting states in this system. We did comprehensive studies on the superconducting properties and electronic structures of single crystalline Ir0.95Pd0.05Te2 samples. The superconducting gap size, critical fields and coherence length along different directions were experimentally determined. Macroscopic bulk measurements and microscopic low temperature scanning tunneling spectroscopy results suggest that Ir0.95Pd0.05Te2 possesses a BCS-like s-wave state. No sign of zero bias conductance peak were found in the vortex core at 0.4K.

Hydrogen lines in LAMOST low resolution spectra of RR Lyrae stars

The LAMOST spectroscopic survey for Galactic structure and evolution has been in operation since October 2012, following a one-year pilot survey. The pilot survey produced a data release containing over 600,000 stellar spectra. By cross-checking with a large time series photometric database of RR Lyrae stars in high Galactic latitude regions, we found a total number of 157 stars that have been observed with LAMOST. In this sample, we successfully captured three RR Lyrae stars in the fast expansion phase, all of them showing significant hypersonic shock wave features in the spectra. By fitting the Hα line shape, we determine that the emission features seen within the broader Hα absorption line suggest hypersonic relative motions in the atmospheres of these three objects. With a further LAMOST survey of millions of stars, we will capture a large sample of RR Lyrae stars in their hypersonic expansion phase, and therefore provide a large database for the study of the internal structure and pulsation mechanism of RR Lyrae stars.

Analysis of the Decay D^0 to K^0_S pi^0 pi^0

We present the results of a Dalitz plot analysis of D^0 to K^0_S pi^0 pi^0 using the CLEO-c data set of 818 inverse pico-barns of e^+ e^- collisions accumulated at sqrt{s} = 3.77 GeV. This corresponds to three million D^0 D^0-bar pairs from which we select 1,259 tagged candidates with a background of 7.5 +- 0.9 percent. Several models have been explored, all of which include the K^*(892), K^*_2(1430), K^*(1680), the f_0(980), and the sigma(500). We find that the combined pi^0 pi^0 S-wave contribution to our preferred fit is (28.9 +- 6.3 +- 3.1)% of the total decay rate while D^0 to K^*(892)^0 pi^0 contributes (65.6 +- 5.3 +- 2.5)%. Using three tag modes and correcting for quantum correlations we measure the D^0 to K^0_S pi^0 pi^0 branching fraction to be (1.059 +- 0.038 +- 0.061)%.

Measurements of branching fractions for electromagnetic transitions involving the $χ_{bJ}(1P)$ states

Using 9.32, 5.88 million Upsilon(2S,3S) decays taken with the CLEO-III detector, we obtain five product branching fractions for the exclusive processes Upsilon(2S) => gamma chi_{b0,1,2}(1P) => gamma gamma Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(3S) => gamma chi_{b1,2}(1P) => gamma gamma Upsilon(1S). We observe the transition chi_{b0}(1P) => gamma Upsilon(1S) for the first time. Using the known branching fractions for B[Upsilon(2S) => gamma chi_{bJ}(1P)], we extract values for B[chi_{bJ}(1P) => gamma Upsilon(1S)] for J=0, 1, 2. In turn, these values can be used to unfold the Upsilon(3S) product branching fractions to obtain values for B[Upsilon(3S) => gamma chi_{b1,2}(1P) for the first time individually. Comparison of these with each other and with the branching fraction B[Upsilon(3S) => gamma chi_{b0}] previously measured by CLEO provides tests of relativistic corrections to electric dipole matrix elements.

Analysis of D+ to K- pi+ e+ nu_e and D+ to K- pi+ mu+ nu_mu Semileptonic Decays

Using a large sample (~11800 events) of D^+ into K^- pi^+ e^+ nu_e and D^+ into K^- pi^+ mu^+ nu_mu decays collected by the CLEO-c detector running at the psi(3770), we measure the helicity basis form factors free from the assumptions of spectroscopic pole dominance and provide new, accurate measurements of the absolute branching fractions for D^+ into K^- pi^+ e^+ nu_e and D^+ into K^- pi^+ mu^+ nu_mu decays. We find branching fractions which are consistent with previous world averages. Our measured helicity basis form factors are consistent with the spectroscopic pole dominance predictions for the three main helicity basis form factors describing D^+ into anti-K*0 ell^+ nu_mu decay. The ability to analyze D^+ into K^- pi^+ mu^+ nu_mu allows us to make the first non-parametric measurements of the mass-suppressed form factor. Our result is inconsistent with existing Lattice QCD calculations. Finally, we measure the form factor that controls non-resonant s-wave interference with the D^+ into anti-K*0 ell^+ nu_mu amplitude and search for evidence of possible additional non-resonant d-wave or f-wave interference with the anti-K*0.

Competition between fusion-fission and quasifission processes in the $^{32}$S+$^{182,184}$W reactions

The angular distributions of fission fragments for the $^{32}$S+$^{184}$W reaction at center-of-mass energies of 118.8, 123.1, 127.3, 131.5, 135.8, 141.1 and 144.4 MeV were measured. The experimental fission excitation function is obtained. The fragment angular anisotropy ($\mathcal{A}_{\rm exp}$) is found by extrapolating the each fission angular distributions. The measured fission cross sections of the $^{32}$S+$^{182,184}$W reaction are decomposed into fusion-fission, quasifission and fast fission contributions by the dinuclear system model. The total evaporation residue excitation function for the $^{32}$S+$^{184}$W reaction calculated in the framework of the advanced statistical model is in good agreement with the available experimental data up to about $E_{\rm c.m.}\approx 160$ MeV. The theoretical descriptions of the experimental capture excitation functions for both reactions and quantities $K_0^2$, $<\ell^2>$ and $\mathcal{A}_{\rm exp}$ which characterize angular distributions of the fission products were performed by the same partial capture cross sections at the considered range of beam energy.

Gate-Voltage Control of Chemical Potential and Weak Anti-localization in Bismuth Selenide

We report that Bi$_2$Se$_3$ thin films can be epitaxially grown on SrTiO$_{3}$ substrates, which allow for very large tunablity in carrier density with a back-gate. The observed low field magnetoconductivity due to weak anti-localization (WAL) has a very weak gate-voltage dependence unless the electron density is reduced to very low values. Such a transition in WAL is correlated with unusual changes in longitudinal and Hall resistivities. Our results suggest much suppressed bulk conductivity at large negative gate-voltages and a possible role of surface states in the WAL phenomena. This work may pave a way for realizing three-dimensional topological insulators at ambient conditions.

Measurement of the eta_b(1S) mass and the branching fraction for Upsilon(3S) --> gamma eta_b(1S)

We report evidence for the ground state of bottomonium, eta_b(1S), in the radiative decay Upsilon(3S) --> gamma eta_b in e^+e^- annihilation data taken with the CLEO III detector. Using 6 million Upsilon(3S) decays, and assuming Gamma(eta_b) = 10 MeV/c^2, we obtain B(Upsilon(3S) --> gamma eta_b) = (7.1 +- 1.8 +- 1.1) X 10^{-4}, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The statistical significance is about 4 sigma. The mass is determined to be M(eta_b) = 9391.8 +- 6.6 +- 2.0 MeV/c^2, which corresponds to the hyperfine splitting Delta M_{hf}(1S)_b = 68.5 +- 6.6 +- 2.0 MeV/c^2. Branching fractions for decays of psi(2S) to gamma p bar{p}, pi^0 p bar{p} and eta p bar{p} have been determined. No evidence for p bar{p} threshold enhancements was found in the reactions psi(2S)-> X p bar{p}, where X = gamma, pi^0, eta. We do, however, find confirming evidence for a p bar{p} threshold enhancement in J/psi-> gamma p bar{p} as previously reported by BES.

Sub-barrier fusion of 32S+90,96Zr: semi-classical coupled-channels approach

The fusion excitation functions have been measured with rather good accuracy for 32S+90Zr and 32S+96Zr near and below the Coulomb barrier. The sub-barrier cross sections for 32S+96Zr are much larger compared with 32S+90Zr. Semi-classical coupled-channels calculations including two-phonon excitations are capable to describe sub-barrier enhancement only for 32S+90Zr. The remaining disagreement for 32S+96Zr comes from the positive Q-value intermediate neutron transfers in this system. The comparison with 40Ca+96Zr suggests that couplings to the positive Q-value neutron transfer channels may play a role in the sub-barrier fusion enhancement. A rather simple model calculation taking neutron transfers into account is proposed to overcome the discrepancies of 32S+96Zr.

Upsilon(1S)->gamma+f2'(1525); f2'(1525)->K0sK0s decays

We report on a study of exclusive radiative decays of the Upsilon(1S) resonance into a final state consisting of a photon and two K0s candidates. We find evidence for a signal for Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525); f_2'(1525)->K0sK0s, at a rate (4.0+/-1.3+/-0.6)x10^{-5}, consistent with previous observations of Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525); f_2'(1525)->K+K-, and isospin. Combining this branching fraction with existing branching fraction measurements of Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525) and J/psi->gamma f_2'(1525), we obtain the ratio of branching fractions: B(Upsilon(1S)->gamma f_2'(1525))/B(J/psi->gamma f_2'(1525))=0.09+/-0.02, approximately consistent with expectations based on soft collinear effective theory.
