Weak magnetic field effects on chiral critical temperature in a nonlocal Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model

In this article we study the nonlocal Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with a Gaussian regulator in the chiral limit. Finite temperature effects and the presence of a homogeneous magnetic field are considered. The magnetic evolution of the critical temperature for chiral symmetry restoration is then obtained. Here we restrict ourselves to the case of low magnetic field values, being this a complementary discussion to the exisiting analysis in nonlocal models in the strong magnetic field regime.

Thermodynamic instabilities in nonlocal NJL models

It has been recently pointed out, that nonlocal Nambu--Jona-Lasinio models, may present unphysical thermodynamical behavior like negative pressure and oscillating entropy. Here we show how these thermodynamic instabilities can be related to the analytical structure of the poles of the quark propagator in the model. The analysis is carried out for two different regulators and we show, in each case, how the instabilities are related to the pressence of highly unstable poles. We also argue that the softening of these instabilities by the inclusion of the Polyakov loop is related to the effect the latter has on the poles of the propagator.

Unstable quasiparticles as a source of thermodynamic instabilities in the thermal nonlocal Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

It has already been shown that in thermal nonlocal Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models some unphysical behavior, such as a negative pressure, may arise. In this article, it is shown how this behavior can be related to the pressence of highly unstable poles of the propagator of the model, for both the Gaussian and Lorentzian regulators cases. Computations are carried out within the real time formalism, which allows to isolate the contributions from different poles and identify the source of these instabilities. It has also been shown in recent articles how these instabilities are softened by the inclusion of the Polyakov loop when a Gaussian regulator is considered. This article shows how the softening of instabilities can be understood by studying the effect of the Polyakov loop on the poles of the propagator for the Gaussian regulator.

The nNJL model with a fractional Lorentzian regulator in the real time formalism

In this article we study the finite temperature and chemical potential effects in a nonlocal Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (nNJL) model in the real time formalism. We make the usual Wick rotation to get from imaginary to real time formalism. In doing so, we need to define our regulator in the complex plane q^2. This deffinition will be crucial in our later analysis. We study the poles in the propagator of this model and conclude that only some of them are of interst to us. Once we have a well defined model in real time formalism, we look at the chiral condensate to find the temperature at which chiral symmetry restoration will occur. We find a second order phase transition that turns to a first order one for high enough values of the chemical potential.

Vacuum instability by a chromoelectric field in 2 + 1-dimensions

The problem of vacuum instability and creation of pairs by external fields SU(2) is studied. The effective mass operator has complex eigenvalues implying decay and pair creation. We consider a constant external chromoelectric field and a region in the parameter space where the vaccum becomes unstable and decays in pairs. Although the calculation is done in SU(2) color group it is also valid for SU(3).

The cylindrical δ-potential and the Dirac equation

In this article we discuss the Dirac equation in the presence of an attractive cylindrical δ-shell potential V(ρ)=-aδ(ρ-ρ_0), where ρis the radial coordinate and a>0. We present a detailed discussion on the boundary conditions the wave function has to satisfy when crossing the support of the potential, proceeding then to explore the dependence of the ground state on the parameter a, analyzing the occurrence of supercritical effects. We also apply the Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation, discussing the non-relativistic limit of this problem.
