LHCb measurements of Bd,s→J/ψ+X are shown to be consistent with historical data on scalar and axial mesons below 2 GeV. This is in contrast to some recent interpretations of these data. Further tests of our hypotheses in other Bu,d,s→J/ψ+X decay modes are suggested.
Charm meson molecule (c\bar n)(n\bar c) assignments for the supercharmonium state Z(4475) are considered, both on general grounds and in the context of specific pion exchange models. Two possible charm molecule assignments for the JP = 1+, Z(4475) are considered here, involving respectively a radially and an orbitally excited charm meson. In each assignment, a lower-mass isosinglet charm molecule state is predicted. For both the Z(4475) and the Y(4260), measurement of the ratios of the branching fractions to D \bar D plus n pions is recommended as a test of the nature of these states.
If the exotic baryon Θ+(1540) is a correlated ududsˉ with JP=1/2+, then there should exist an exotic meson, JP=1− ϑ+(S=+2) →K+K0 ∼1.6GeV with width O(10−100)MeV. The π1(1400;1600) may be broad members of {\bf 10} ± \10bar in such a picture. Vector mesons in the 1.4 - 1.7GeV mass range are also compared with this picture.
Recent data on charmonium production in B-meson decays suggest that charmonium hybrid mesons with mass ~4 GeV may be produced in B-decay via c\bar{c} colour octet operators. Some of these states are likely to be narrow with clean signatures to J/ψpi^+ pi^- final states. Experimental signatures and search strategies for existing B-factories are described.
We identify two Cabibbo suppressed D+ decay modes with anomalously high branching ratios which are not simply explained by any model. All standard model diagrams that can contribute to these decays are related by symmetries to diagrams for other decays that do not show any such enhancement. If these high branching ratios are confirmed by more precise experiments, they may require new physics to explain them. Anomalies in Ds decays and tests for possible violation of G-parity are discussed.
The measured rate for phi to gamma f0(980) appears to be larger than allowed on rather general grounds. We show that mixing between the f0(980) and a0(980), due to their dynamical interaction with the nearby KKbar thresholds, radically affects some existing predictions of their production in phi radiative decay. We predict that Gamma(phi to gamma f0)/Gamma(phi to gamma a_0) approx 3; that sum (b.r.(phi to gamma f0) + b.r. (phi to gamma a_0)) < 5 x 10^-4 with probable individual branching ratios 2 x 10^-4 and 0.7 x 10^-4 respectively.
Lattice QCD predictions have motivated several recent studies of the mixing between the predicted JPC = 0++ glueball and a qqbar nonet in the 1.3 to 1.7 GeV region. We show that results from apparently different approaches have some common features, explain why this is so and abstract general conclusions. We place particular emphasis on the flavour dependent constraints imposed by decays of the f0(1370), f0(1500) and f0(1700) to all pairs of pseudoscalar mesons. From these results we identify a systematic correlation between glueball mass, mixing, and flavour symmetry breaking and conclude that the glueball may be rather lighter than some quenched lattice QCD computations have suggested. We identify experimental tests that can determine the dynamics of a glueball in this mass region and discuss quantitatively the feasibility of decoding glueball-qqbar mixing.
We suggest that mixing between the f0(980) and a0(980), due to their dynamical interaction with the nearby KKbar thresholds, can give rise to a significantly enhanced production rate of a0(980) relative to a2(1320) in pp -> ps (eta pi0) pf as xF -> 0. The peaking of the cross section as phi -> 0 should also occur. We show that such effects are seen in data and deduce that the f0(980) - a0(980) mixing intensity is 8 +/- 3 %.
Hybrid charmonium with mass ~4 GeV could be produced via a c c.bar color-octet component in b->c c.bar s. These states could be narrow and could have a significant branching ratio to light hadrons, perhaps enhanced by glueballs. Decays to gluonic hadrons could make a sizable contribution to B->no charm decays. Experimental signatures and search strategies are discussed.
We present results from analytical and numerical studies of a flux tube model of hybrid mesons. Our numerical results use a Hamiltonian Monte Carlo algorithm and so improve on previous analytical treatments, which assumed small flux tube oscillations and an adiabatic separation of quark and flux tube motion. We find that the small oscillation approximation is inappropriate for typical hadrons and that the hybrid mass is underestimated by the adiabatic approximation. For physical parameters in the ``one-bead" flux tube model we estimate the lightest hybrid masses (ΛL=1P states) to be 1.8-1.9~GeV for uuˉ hybrids, 2.1-2.2~GeV for ssˉ and 4.1-4.2~GeV for ccˉ. We also determine masses of conventional qqˉ mesons with L=0 to L=3 in this model, and confirm good agreement with experimental J-averaged multiplet masses. Mass estimates are also given for hybrids with higher orbital and flux-tube excitations. The gap from the lightest hybrid level (1P) to the first hybrid orbital excitation (1D) is predicted to be ≈0.4~GeV for light quarks (q=u,d) and ≈0.3~GeV for q=c. Both 1P and 1D hybrid multiplets contain the exotics 1−+ and 2+−; in addition the 1P has a 0+− and the 1D contains a 3−+. Hybrid mesons with doubly-excited flux tubes are also considered. The implications of our results for spectroscopy are discussed, with emphasis on charmonium hybrids, which may be accessible at facilities such as BEPC, KEK, a Tau-Charm Factory, and in ψ production at hadron colliders.
Recently we have shown that due account of Wigner spin rotations is needed to match the ISGW model consistently onto HQET. We now discuss the flavour dependence of this procedure. We find that for finite mass ``heavy'' quark the universal function ξ(y=1)≈1 but the slope is proportional to the energy of the spectator quarks, and ratios of form factors are corrected in a way that QCD sum rules seem to require. Predictions for heavy quarks, such as in Bc→ψ(ηc) and to mixed systems, such as D→K and B→π show a systematic mass dependence that may be confronted with data.
