About the Bethe Salpeter Formalism in the Heavy Mass Limit

We investigate the Bethe--Salpeter description of mesons in the limit where one of the constituing quarks is infinitely heavy. To recover the non--relativistic quark model out of the Bethe--Salpeter formalism it is usual to assume that the potential is instantaneous and the Fock space is reduced to $Q\bar{q}$ states. We show that in the Feynman gauge in perturbation theory and for a heavy quark being on--mass shell the instantaneity of the potential is valid in the rest--frame of the meson. Furthermore we argue that to first order in the velocity exchange during a heavy meson transition, the error induced by the reduction of the Fock--space is small. This in turn justifies quark model calculations, even when one quark is light.

Flavour Dependence of Form Factors in Heavy Meson Decays

Recently we have shown that due account of Wigner spin rotations is needed to match the ISGW model consistently onto HQET. We now discuss the flavour dependence of this procedure. We find that for finite mass ``heavy'' quark the universal function $ξ(y=1) \approx 1$ but the slope is proportional to the energy of the spectator quarks, and ratios of form factors are corrected in a way that QCD sum rules seem to require. Predictions for heavy quarks, such as in $B_c \rightarrow ψ(η_c)$ and to mixed systems, such as $D\rightarrow K$ and $B \rightarrow π$ show a systematic mass dependence that may be confronted with data.

Heavy Quark S- to P-Wave Transitions in a Consistent Quark Model

In Heavy Quark Effective Theory the calculation of form-factors of higher excited states in a non-relativistic framework suffers severe inconsistencies due to frame dependencies. We show how careful inclusion of the Wigner-rotation of the spin of the light quark and a covariant description of the meson wave-function resolves these inconsistencies. We match this onto HQET and compute the relevant form factors $ξ_{1/2}$ and $ξ_{3/2}$ to order $v^2$.
