Optimal convergence rates for the invariant density estimation of jump-diffusion processes

We aim at estimating the invariant density associated to a stochastic differential equation with jumps in low dimension, which is for $d=1$ and $d=2$. We consider a class of jump diffusion processes whose invariant density belongs to some Hölder space. Firstly, in dimension one, we show that the kernel density estimator achieves the convergence rate $\frac{1}{T}$, which is the optimal rate in the absence of jumps. This improves the convergence rate obtained in [Amorino, Gloter (2021)], which depends on the Blumenthal-Getoor index for $d=1$ and is equal to $\frac{\log T}{T}$ for $d=2$. Secondly, we show that is not possible to find an estimator with faster rates of estimation. Indeed, we get some lower bounds with the same rates $\{\frac{1}{T},\frac{\log T}{T}\}$ in the mono and bi-dimensional cases, respectively. Finally, we obtain the asymptotic normality of the estimator in the one-dimensional case.

The Osgood condition for stochastic partial differential equations

We study the following equation \begin{equation*} \frac{\partial u(t,\,x)}{\partial t}= Δu(t,\,x)+b(u(t,\,x))+σ\dot{W}(t,\,x),\quad t>0, \end{equation*} where $σ$ is a positive constant and $\dot{W}$ is a space-time white noise. The initial condition $u(0,x)=u_0(x)$ is assumed to be a nonnegative and continuous function. We first study the problem on $[0,\,1]$ with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. Under some suitable conditions, together with a theorem of Bonder and Groisman, our first result shows that the solution blows up in finite time if and only if \begin{equation*} \int_{\cdot}^\infty\frac{1}{b(s)}\,d s<\infty, \end{equation*} which is the well-known Osgood condition. We also consider the same equation on the whole line and show that the above condition is sufficient for the nonexistence of global solutions. Various other extensions are provided; we look at equations with fractional Laplacian and spatial colored noise in $\mathbb{R}^d$.

LAN property for a linear model with jumps

In this paper, we consider a linear model with jumps driven by a Brownian motion and a compensated Poisson process, whose drift and diffusion coefficients as well as its intensity are unknown parameters. Supposing that the process is observed discretely at high frequency we derive the local asymptotic normality (LAN) property. In order to obtain this result, Malliavin calculus and Girsanov's theorem are applied in order to write the log-likelihood ratio in terms of sums of conditional expectations, for which a central limit theorem for triangular arrays can be applied.

On probability laws of solutions to differential systems driven by a fractional Brownian motion

This article investigates several properties related to densities of solutions X to differential equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H>1/4. We first determine conditions for strict positivity of the density of X_t. Then we obtain some exponential bounds for this density when the diffusion coefficient satisfies an elliptic type condition. Finally, still in the elliptic case, we derive some bounds on the hitting probabilities of sets by fractional differential systems in terms of Newtonian capacities.

On the behaviour of stochastic heat equations on bounded domains

Consider the following equation $$\partial_t u_t(x)=\frac{1}{2}\partial _{xx}u_t(x)+λσ(u_t(x))\dot{W}(t,\,x)$$ on an interval. Under Dirichlet boundary condition, we show that in the long run, the second moment of the solution grows exponentially fast if $λ$ is large enough. But if $λ$ is small, then the second moment eventually decays exponentially. If we replace the Dirichlet boundary condition by the Neumann one, then the second moment grows exponentially fast no matter what $λ$ is. We also provide various extensions.

On the LAMN property for continuous observations of some diffusion processes with jumps

In this paper, we consider a diffusion process with jumps whose drift and jump coefficient depend on an unknown parameter. We then give a self-contained proof of the local asymptotic mixed normality (LAMN) property when the process is observed continuously in a time interval $[0; T]$ as $T\to\infty$, and derive, as a consequence, the local asymptotic normality (LAN) property in the ergodic case. For this, we give a proof of a Girsanov's theorem and a Central Limit theorem for a pure jump martingale. Our results could be viewed as a consequence of the LAMN property for semimartingales proved by Luschgy [15], using the Girsanov's theorem for semimartingales obtained in Jacod and Shiryaev [9], and the Central Limit theorem for semimartingales established by Sørensen [21] and Feigin [3]. The aim of this paper is to present a proof of these results without using this abstract semimartingale theory but integral equations with respect to Poisson random measures.

The Landau Equation for Maxwellian molecules and the Brownian Motion on SO_R(N)

In this paper we prove that the spatially homogeneous Landau equation for Maxwellian molecules can be represented through the product of two elementary processes. The first one is the Brownian motion on the group of rotations. The second one is, conditionally on the first one, a Gaussian process. Using this representation, we establish sharp multi-scale upper and lower bounds for the transition density of the Landau equation, the multi-scale structure depending on the shape of the support of the initial condition.

Critical Brownian sheet does not have double points

We derive a decoupling formula for the Brownian sheet which has the following ready consequence: An $N$-parameter Brownian sheet in $\mathbf{R}^d$ has double points if and only if $d<4N$. In particular, in the critical case where $d=4N$, the Brownian sheet does not have double points. This answers an old problem in the folklore of the subject. We also discuss some of the geometric consequences of the mentioned decoupling, and establish a partial result concerning $k$-multiple points in the critical case $k(d-2N)=d$.

Existence and regularity of the density for the solution to semilinear dissipative parabolic SPDEs

We prove existence and smoothness of the density of the solution to a nonlinear stochastic heat equation on $L^2(\mathcal{O})$ (evaluated at fixed points in time and space), where $\mathcal{O}$ is an open bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$. The equation is driven by an additive Wiener noise and the nonlinear drift term is the superposition operator associated to a real function which is assumed to be (maximal) monotone, continuously differentiable, and growing not faster than a polynomial. The proof uses tools of the Malliavin calculus combined with methods coming from the theory of maximal monotone operators.

Hitting probabilities for systems of non-linear stochastic heat equations in spatial dimension $k\geq 1$

We consider a system of $d$ non-linear stochastic heat equations in spatial dimension $k \geq 1$, whose solution is an $\R^d$-valued random field $u= \{u(t\,,x),\, (t,x) \in \R_+ \times \R^k\}$. The $d$-dimensional driving noise is white in time and with a spatially homogeneous covariance defined as a Riesz kernel with exponent $β$, where $0<β<(2 \wedge k)$. The non-linearities appear both as additive drift terms and as multipliers of the noise. Using techniques of Malliavin calculus, we establish an upper bound on the two-point density, with respect to Lebesgue measure, of the $\R^{2d}$-valued random vector $(u(s,y),u(t,x))$, that, in particular, quantifies how this density degenerates as $(s,y) \to (t,x)$. From this result, we deduce a lower bound on hitting probabilities of the process $u$, in terms of Newtonian capacity. We also establish an upper bound on hitting probabilities of the process in terms of Hausdorff measure. These estimates make it possible to show that points are polar when $d > \frac{4+2k}{2-β}$ and are not polar when $d < \frac{4+2k}{2-β}$. %(if $\frac{4+2k}{2-β}$ is an integer, then the case $d=\frac{4+2k}{2-β}$ is open). In the first case, we also show that the Hausdorff dimension of the range of the process is $\frac{4+2k}{2-β}$ a.s.

On the density of systems of non-linear spatially homogeneous SPDEs

In this paper, we consider a system of $k$ second order non-linear stochastic partial differential equations with spatial dimension $d \geq 1$, driven by a $q$-dimensional Gaussian noise, which is white in time and with some spatially homogeneous covariance. The case of a single equation and a one-dimensional noise, has largely been studied in the literature. The first aim of this paper is to give a survey of some of the existing results. We will start with the existence, uniqueness and Hölder's continuity of the solution. For this, the extension of Walsh's stochastic integral to cover some measure-valued integrands will be recalled. We will then recall the results concerning the existence and smoothness of the density, as well as its strict positivity, which are obtained using techniques of Malliavin calculus. The second aim of this paper is to show how these results extend to our system of SPDEs. In particular, we give sufficient conditions in order to have existence and smoothness of the density on the set where the columns of the diffusion matrix span $\R^k$. We then prove that the density is strictly positive in a point if the connected component of the set where the columns of the diffusion matrix span $\R^k$ which contains this point has a non void intersection with the support of the law of the solution. We will finally check how all these results apply to the case of the stochastic heat equation in any space dimension and the stochastic wave equation in dimension $d\in \{1,2,3\}$.

Gaussian estimates for the density of the non-linear stochastic heat equation in any space dimension

In this paper, we establish lower and upper Gaussian bounds for the probability density of the mild solution to the stochastic heat equation with multiplicative noise and in any space dimension. The driving perturbation is a Gaussian noise which is white in time with some spatially homogeneous covariance. These estimates are obtained using tools of the Malliavin calculus. The most challenging part is the lower bound, which is obtained by adapting a general method developed by Kohatsu-Higa to the underlying spatially homogeneous Gaussian setting. Both lower and upper estimates have the same form: a Gaussian density with a variance which is equal to that of the mild solution of the corresponding linear equation with additive noise.

Estimates for the density of a nonlinear Landau process

The aim of this paper is to obtain estimates for the density of the law of a specific nonlinear diffusion process at any positive bounded time. This process is issued from kinetic theory and is called Landau process, by analogy with the associated deterministic Fokker-Planck-Landau equation. It is not Markovian, its coefficients are not bounded and the diffusion matrix is degenerate. Nevertheless, the specific form of the diffusion matrix and the nonlinearity imply the non-degeneracy of the Malliavin matrix and then the existence and smoothness of the density. In order to obtain a lower bound for the density, the known results do not apply. However, our approach follows the main idea consisting in discretizing the interval time and developing a recursive method. To this aim, we prove and use refined results on conditional Malliavin calculus. The lower bound implies the positivity of the solution of the Landau equation, and partially answers to an analytical conjecture. We also obtain an upper bound for the density, which again leads to an unusual estimate due to the bad behavior of the coefficients.

Potential theory for hyperbolic SPDEs

We give general sufficient conditions which imply upper and lower bounds for the probability that a multiparameter process hits a given set E in terms of a capacity of E related to the process. This extends a result of Khoshnevisan and Shi [Ann. Probab. 27 (1999) 1135-1159], where estimates for the hitting probabilities of the (N,d) Brownian sheet in terms of the (d-2N) Newtonian capacity are obtained, and readily applies to a wide class of Gaussian processes. Using Malliavin calculus and, in particular, a result of Kohatsu-Higa [Probab. Theory Related Fields 126 (2003) 421-457], we apply these general results to the solution of a system of d nonlinear hyperbolic stochastic partial differential equations with two variables. We show that under standard hypotheses on the coefficients, the hitting probabilities of this solution are bounded above and below by constants times the (d-4) Newtonian capacity. As a consequence, we characterize polar sets for this process and prove that the Hausdorff dimension of its range is min(d,4) a.s.
