We classify a large class of small groups of finite Morley rank: N∘∘-groups which are the infinite analogues of Thompson's N-groups. More precisely, we constrain the 2-structure of groups of finite Morley rank containing a definable, normal, non-soluble, N∘∘-subgroup.
We prove a general dichotomy theorem for groups of finite Morley rank with solvable local subgroups and of Prüfer p-rank at least 2, leading either to some p-strong embedding, or to the Prüfer p-rank being exactly 2.
We prove that groups definable in o-minimal structures have Cartan subgroups, and only finitely many conjugacy classes of such subgroups. We also delineate with precision how these subgroups cover the ambient group, in general very largely in terms of the dimension.
We give two slight generalizations of results of Poizat about elementary theories of groups obtained by free constructions. The first-one concerns the non-superstability of such groups in most cases, and the second-one concerns the connectedness of most free products of groups.
We prove that existentially closed CSA-groups have the independence property. This is done by showing that there exist words having the independence property relatively to the class of torsion-free hyperbolic groups.
