Embedding of Toeplitz operators with smooth symbols into strongly continuous semigroups

Using the model theory for Toeplitz operators with smooth symbols developed by the fourth author in the 80's, we study whether such operators $T_{F}$ can be embedded into a $C_{0}$-semigroup of operators on the Hardy space $H^p$ of the open unit disk, $1<p<\infty$. We show that it is the case as soon as $0$ belongs to the unbounded connected component of $\mathbb{C}$ minus the interior of the spectrum of $T_{F}$. We provide several conditions on the symbol $F$, both geometric and analytic in nature, ensuring that this sufficient condition is also necessary. For a certain class of symbols, where the curve $F(\mathbb{T})$ is a ``figure eight in a loop" such that $\mathbb{C}\setminusσ(T_F)$ has a bounded connected component, we obtain a complete characterization of the embeddability of $T_F$ into a $C_0$-semigroup. In the last part of the paper, we discuss the embeddability of $T_F$ when the symbol $F$ is not necessarily smooth, using connections with the numerical range and the functional calculus for bounded sectorial operators.

Hypercyclicity of Toeplitz operators with smooth symbols

This paper is devoted to the study of the dynamics of Toeplitz operators $T_F$ with smooth symbols $F$ on the Hardy spaces of the unit disk $H^p$, $p>1$. Building on a model theory for Toeplitz operators on $H^2$ developed by Yakubovich in the 90's, we carry out an in-depth study of hypercyclicity properties of such operators. Under some rather general smoothness assumptions on the symbol, we provide some necessary/sufficient/necessary and sufficient conditions for $T_F$ to be hypercyclic on $H^p$. In particular, we extend previous results on the subject by Baranov-Lishanskii and Abakumov-Baranov-Charpentier-Lishanskii. We also study some other dynamical properties for this class of operators.

Orthogonal projections in the local Dirichlet spaces

We present an explicit formula for the orthogonal projection onto the subspace of analytic polynomials of degree at most $n$ in the local Dirichlet space $D_μ$ , where the positive measure $μ$ consists of a finite number of Dirac measures located at points on the unit circle $\mathbb T$. This result has two key aspects: first, while it is known that polynomials are dense in $D_μ$ , this approach offers a concrete linear approximation scheme within the space. Second, due to the orthogonality of the polynomials involved, the scheme is qualitative, as the distance of an arbitrary function $f\in D_μ$ to the projected subspace is explicitly determined.

Recent results on truncated Toeplitz operators

Truncated Toeplitz operators are compressions of Toeplitz operators on model spaces; they have received much attention in the last years. This survey article presents several recent results, which relate boundedness, compactness, and spectra of these operators to properties of their symbols. We also connect these facts with properties of the natural embedding measures associated to these operators.

Cyclicity in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces of analytic functions

We introduce a large family of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces $\mathcal{H} \subset \mbox{Hol}(\mathbb{D})$, which include the classical Dirichlet-type spaces $\mathcal{D}_α$, by requiring normalized monomials to form a Riesz basis for $\mathcal{H}$. Then, after precisely evaluating the $n$-th optimal norm and the $n$-th approximant of $f(z)=1-z$, we completely characterize the cyclicity of functions in $\mbox{Hol}(\overline{\mathbb{D}})$ with respect to the forward shift.

Reverse Carleson Embeddings for Model Spaces

The classical embedding theorem of Carleson deals with finite positive Borel measures $μ$ on the closed unit disk for which there exists a positive constant $c$ such that $|f|_{L^2(μ)} \leq c |f|_{H^2}$ for all $f \in H^2$, the Hardy space of the unit disk. Lefévre et al. examined measures $μ$ for which there exists a positive constant $c$ such that $\|f\|_{L^2(μ)} \geq c |f|_{H^2}$ for all $f \in H^2$. The first type of inequality above was explored with $H^2$ replaced by one of the model spaces $(ΘH^2)^{\perp}$ by Aleksandrov, Baranov, Cohn, Treil, and Volberg. In this paper we discuss the second type of inequality in $(ΘH^2)^{\perp}$.

Zero-free regions for Dirichlet series (II)

In this paper, we continue some work devoted to explicit zero-free discs for a large class of Dirichlet series. In a previous article, such zero-free regions were described using some spaces of functions which were defined with some technical conditions. Here we give two different natural ways in order to remove those technical conditions. In particular this allows to right down explicit zero-free regions differently and to obtain for them an easier description useful for direct applications.

Embedding Theorems for Müntz spaces

We discuss boundedness and compactness properties of the embedding $M_Λ^1\subset L^1(μ)$, where $M_Λ^1$ is the closure of the monomials $x^{λ_n}$ in $L1([0,1])$ and $μ$ is a finite positive Borel measure on the interval $[0,1]$. In particular, we introduce a class of "sublinear" measures and provide a rather complete solution of the embedding problem for the class of quasilacunary sequences $Λ$. Finally, we show how one can recapture some of Al Alam's results on boundedness and essential norm of weighted composition operators from $M_Λ^1$ to $L1([0,1])$.
