Algebraic Cobordism and Étale Cohomology

Thomason's étale descent theorem for Bott periodic algebraic KK-theory \cite{aktec} is generalized to any MGLMGL module over a regular Noetherian scheme of finite dimension. Over arbitrary Noetherian schemes of finite dimension, this generalizes the analog of Thomason's theorem for Weibel's homotopy KK-theory. This is achieved by amplifying the effects from the case of motivic cohomology, using the slice spectral sequence in the case of the universal example of algebraic cobordism. We also obtain integral versions of these statements: Bousfield localization at étale motivic cohomology is the universal way to impose étale descent for these theories. As applications, we describe the étale local objects in modules over these spectra and show that they satisfy the full six functor formalism, construct an étale descent spectral sequence converging to Bott-inverted motivic Landweber exact theories, and prove cellularity and effectivity of the étale versions of these motivic spectra.

Motivic colimits and extended powers

We define a notion of colimit for diagrams in a motivic category indexed by a presheaf of spaces (e.g. an étale classifying space), and we study basic properties of this construction. As a case study, we construct the motivic analogs of the classical extended and generalized powers, which refine the categorical versions of these constructions as special cases. We also offer more computationally tractable models of these constructions using equivariant motivic homotopy theory. This is the first in a series of papers on power operations in motivic stable homotopy theory.

Twisted K-theory in motivic homotopy theory

In this paper, we study twisted algebraic KK-theory from a motivic viewpoint. For a smooth variety XX over a field of characteristic zero and an Azumaya algebra A\mathcal{A} over XX, we construct the A\mathcal{A}-twisted motivic spectral sequence, by computing the slices of the motivic twisted algebraic KK-theory spectrum as a twisted form of motivic cohomology. This generalizes previous results due to Kahn-Levine where A\mathcal{A} is assumed to be pulled back from a base field. Our methods use interaction between the slice filtration and birational geometry. Along the way, we prove a representability result, expressing the motivic space of twisted KK-theory as an extension of the twisted Grassmannian by the sheaf of "twisted integers". This leads to a proof of cdh descent and Milnor excision for twisted homotopy KK-theory.

Scheiderer motives and equivariant higher topos theory

We give an algebro-geometric interpretation of C2C_2-equivariant stable homotopy theory by means of the bb-topology introduced by Claus Scheiderer in his study of 22-torsion phenomena in étale cohomology. To accomplish this, we first revisit and extend work of Scheiderer on equivariant topos theory by functorially associating to a ∞\infty-topos X\mathscr{X} with GG-action a presentable stable ∞\infty-category SpG(X)\mathrm{Sp}^G(\mathscr{X}), which recovers the ∞\infty-category SpG\mathrm{Sp}^G of genuine GG-spectra when X\mathscr{X} is the terminal GG-∞\infty-topos. Given a scheme XX with 1/2∈OX1/2 \in \mathcal{O}_X, our construction then specializes to produce an ∞\infty-category SpbC2(X)\mathrm{Sp}^{C_2}_b(X) of "bb-sheaves with transfers" as bb-sheaves of spectra on the small étale site of XX equipped with certain transfers along the extension X[i]→XX[i] \rightarrow X; if XX is the spectrum of a real closed field, then SpbC2(X)\mathrm{Sp}^{C_2}_b(X) recovers SpC2\mathrm{Sp}^{C_2}. On a large class of schemes, we prove that, after pp-completion, our construction assembles into a premotivic functor satisfying the full six functors formalism. We then introduce the bb-variant SHb(X)\mathrm{SH}_b(X) of the ∞\infty-category SH(X)\mathrm{SH}(X) of motivic spectra over XX (in the sense of Morel-Voevodsky), and produce a natural equivalence of ∞\infty-categories SHb(X)p∧≃SpbC2(X)p∧\mathrm{SH}_b(X)^{\wedge}_p \simeq \mathrm{Sp}^{C_2}_b(X)^{\wedge}_p through amalgamating the étale and real étale motivic rigidity theorems of Tom Bachmann. This involves a purely algebro-geometric construction of the C2C_2-Tate construction, which may be of independent interest. Finally, as applications, we deduce a "bb-rigidity" theorem, use the Segal conjecture to show étale descent of the 22-complete bb-motivic sphere spectrum, and construct a parametrized version of the C2C_2-Betti realization functor of Heller-Ormsby.

Framed transfers and motivic fundamental classes

We relate the recognition principle for infinite P1\mathbf P^1-loop spaces to the theory of motivic fundamental classes of Déglise, Jin, and Khan. We first compare two kinds of transfers that are naturally defined on cohomology theories represented by motivic spectra: the framed transfers given by the recognition principle, which arise from Voevodsky's computation of the Nisnevish sheaf associated with An/(An−0)\mathbf A^n/(\mathbf A^n-0), and the Gysin transfers defined via Verdier's deformation to the normal cone. We then introduce the category of finite E-correspondences for E a motivic ring spectrum, generalizing Voevodsky's category of finite correspondences and Calmès and Fasel's category of finite Milnor-Witt correspondences. Using the formalism of fundamental classes, we show that the natural functor from the category of framed correspondences to the category of E-module spectra factors through the category of finite E-correspondences.

On Modules Over Motivic Ring Spectra

In this note, we provide an axiomatic framework that characterizes the stable ∞\infty-categories that are module categories over a motivic spectrum. This is done by invoking Lurie's ∞\infty-categorical version of the Barr--Beck theorem. As an application, this gives an alternative approach to Röndigs and Østvær's theorem relating Voevodsky's motives with modules over motivic cohomology, and to Garkusha's extension of Röndigs and Østvær's result to general correspondence categories, including the category of Milnor-Witt correspondences in the sense of Calmès and Fasel. We also extend these comparison results to regular Noetherian schemes over a field (after inverting the residue characteristic), following the methods of Cisinski and Déglise.
